Dates: Dates are rich in minerals. You can start giving dates to your baby after 6 months. Give in moderate quantity, 1 date a day and increasing it to two in a day. Feed him in low quantity as it can stuck in his tiny throat. Dates are good for hemoglobin as well and will keep your baby warm internally. Stomach issues will also be resolved.
Egg: As we all know that eggs are super loaded with protein. You can start feeding egg after 8 months to your baby. 2 or 3 times in a week is sufficient. Make omelet with adding few vegetables, salt and black pepper. You can also boil the egg and feed him.
Fish and chicken: Once your baby is one year, you can feed him fish or chicken as well. Make sure it is properly cooked. It is full of protein. Fish is very soft to eat so the baby will definitely love it.
Soup: Soup is always a good idea for everyone. Once your baby is on solids, you can start introducing soup. It may be vegetables or chicken.
Ghee: Desi ghee is full of minerals and really good for babies in moderate quantity. You can add ghee in lentils, khichdi, oats and cereal as well.

Love Beyond Love - My Journey from a Mother to a Mom
Breastfeeding is a journey from a mother to a mom..a feeling which gives you lifetime bliss. The day my baby was born, I was crowned a mother. Friends and relatives were giving me wishes and blessings for becoming a new mother. But I was empty from inside, feelings for my baby was missing.. I was not finding myself attached to my baby.. like all other family members I was celebrating those happy days..but a question was disturbing me again and again and that was, is this a real feeling I waited for?
3 days passed in the same 'happily confused newly mother' status..then the real moment came.. a nurse asked me to feed the baby..I was not sure whether I could or not, but with the help of a sister, I tried. My baby was in my lap, he was searching my breast for milk. To my surprise, within a minute my baby started sucking. It was the first time I saw his face so close, his bright eyes and tiny hands, he was sucking my breast and I was turning into a mom from a mother. It was the feeling I was missing. That happiness was priceless. Those 10 minutes changed everything. That is something which is impossible to explain in words..After completing that session, when I saw the contentment on the face of my son, I realized it's not love, it's beyond love...now my son is three and a half months old, a very healthy boy..and till now I only breastfed him. This is not only beneficial for him but for me also..seeing him while breastfeeding is precious. Even scientifically it's proven that breastfeeding lowers the stress and anxiety in mothers because of oxytocin- a hormone released during nursing. Spending time with the baby is always special but while breastfeeding, it gives immense happiness to a mother.

The Art of Balancing Parental Beliefs with Grandparental Affection
In the Indian society, grandparents play a very important role in a child's life and upbringing. Grandparents in some cases are the primary caregivers from the time children are 4-5 months old because of the dynamics of the society we live in. How do we then balance parental beliefs with affection from grandparents?
Balancing a modern parent’s belief with affection from grandparents is turning into a fine art. You cannot but enjoy the benefits of your child bonding with your parents. However, there are times that grandparent’s affection could come in the way you want to bring up the child. This may happen because of the difference in your parenting styles.
This can come up in several different situations – from the practical point of view as well as the values standpoint. How can one have grandparents involved without making it seem like interference, is the constant question modern parents have.
From a Practical Viewpoint
Grandparents are usually primary caretakers and different in the way they feed or clothe the children as compared to how the children’s parents would. This is primarily due to a distinct generation gap. What the grandparents might feel right, might not necessarily go down well with the parents.
In such a situation, it is best not to admonish the grandparents, and try to explain to them why a certain food might not be advisable to the child or why a certain clothing doesn’t work well for the child. Sometimes, it might be even better to overlook because as grandparents they might not overtly want to harm the well-being of the child.
Sensitive issues like formula feeding vs breastfeeding, introducing solids, keeping a check on milestones and vaccinations should be a mainstay with the parents rather than the grandparents. This needs to be made clear to the grandparents and should also be clear amongst both the children.
From a Value Standpoint
Most grandparents give into temper tantrums of the children as they grow up, indulge them with too much television or mollycoddle or bribe them into doing a few tasks they find unpleasant or difficult. However, parents must credit this to the affection that is inherent in them for their grandchildren. Also, you could attribute it to their age, and therefore, lack of patience and energy.
Here, it is best to set rules for the grandparents if your child is too small to understand rules. It is best to let them know that it is not okay to give into temper tantrums of the child. But never expect them to stick to it to the tee. The grandparents should know and understand what is okay and what is not in terms of values for your child. However, the more you impose the rules, the more difficult it gets for grandparents to handle a child, so allow them a few slip ups and down times.
Confronting Interfering Grandparents
Grandparents get to play an important role in the family. Ideally, grandparents make life easier for the parents. Problems, however, arise when grandparents interfere or when parents forget to take the grandparents’ feelings into consideration. Here are some areas of conflict and how to handle them.
1. Grandparents Always Have The Best Intentions
Like everyone and more so because of their age, they might make mistakes or be unaware of the boundaries. Help them feel important and tell them how they can be helpful
2. Never Criticize
No one likes to be blamed or admonished. This could make them shut down and then stop being as spontaneous as they would like to be. Focus on the positives they bring to the table rather than on the negatives
3. Define Boundaries
When the boundary is crossed, especially, when they give you an advice that you aren’t comfortable with, politely decline their advice and tell them the reasons.
4. Don’t Get Stuck in The Middle
Don’t allow your children to put you in the middle when they complain about their grandparents. Never take sides or talk down to the grandparents.
5. Support Your Mate
When your partner tells you about an intrusive grandparent, support your partner and communicate boundaries to the grandparents. You must, however, always find ways to make the grandparents feel wanted and respected.
6. Define Roles
Be clear, honest and thoughtful about the grandparent, keeping in mind that a grandparent too has a life of his or her own. Request and never demand. Be flexible. Never ‘expect’ them to do it because they ‘must’ do it.
Kids’ parents need their parents, and grandparents need to be around their children and grandchildren. The relationship can be enriching for all if the parents and grandparents both work towards making it work. It pays to find ways to make everyone a part of each other’s lives in the long run! 5 Money Traps Moms Should Avoid
There are several money traps that you should avoid to prevent useless expenditure. The off-season sale, the enticing buy-now-pay-later offer, and the free credit card deal may seem like good ideas at first. However, they lead you down a financial spiral that will make your head and wallet spin.
Don't get caught in the vicious cycle of wasteful spending and forget your larger financial goals as a mother. Remember you have children to take care of, a kitchen to run, and a future to save for. You can't expect your spouse to shoulder all responsibilities, can you? There are one too many signs which, if heeded, can save you from wasting a lot of money. These are some dangerous money traps you should steer clear of.
How Not To Get Caught in a Financial Catch
1. The ‘Free’ Trap
Do not ever buy into the "best things in life are free" statement. When sellers want to trap you, they entice you with free deals. Offers like "issue your credit card for free" and "buy x car and get the last three installments for free" sound familiar, don't they? While these freebies seem great at first, this is a smart money trap. The seller understands how consumers do not ever take the pain of reading between the lines of these sale pitches. This free service in time becomes a paid service, without you ever realising until you see surprising deductions in your bank account or start getting pesky calls asking you to clear your dues. You should smartly stay away from such free offers, except maybe free cookie hand-outs for your child.
2. The ‘Upselling’ Trap
Have you ever been to a store where the sales guy urges you to also try a red dress that matches with the red heels you're planning to buy? Did you succumb to his smooth talk and ended up buying both the red dress and the red heels? Well, you're not alone. Becoming a victim of upselling is common. This money trap can leave you in a daze with stuff you may not need, thus eating into the money you may have set aside for family or personal needs. Your savings for the month could come to nought because of this. To avoid this, ensure to make a list of essential things before shopping and give little importance to sales talk. This will help dissuade you from buying anything extra.
3. The Sale Trap
Who doesn't like a good sale? The thought of getting something for you or your family for half the price is awesome. While we salivate over discounted goods, shopping during sales also leads to unnecessary buying and at times even hoarding. Remember, just because you see the word "sale," doesn't mean you need another black dress and your child needs another set of building blocks. Of course, as a mom, denying your child something may sound cruel. However, in the long run, you'll be able to see the futility of such impulsive and emotional buying. If you do not have the willpower to stop shopping, leaving your wallet at home should work. Do not fall for sales tags and promotions. This is one of the most common money traps to avoid.
4. The Market Trap
You enter a supermarket with a list in hand. You take a cool stroll through the aisle with the cart. You strike the diapers and the granola off the list. You spot a box of chocolate cookies your little bundle may enjoy and a shampoo that promises lustrous hair in two weeks. You drop these in the cart too. You get back, and realise that the 6 things you went to buy became 12 things, and now cost you more than you'd bargained for. Sounds familiar? Supermarkets are created to make shopping a soothing experience. They push you into submission to spend more than you normally would. Stick to your guns and buy only what you need.
5. The App Trap
Addicted to Candy Crush? Well, chances are that you could fall into the ‘freemium’ trap. Most game app developers entice you to play their games. What happens when you run out of lives and need to progress immediately? You usually fall for the ‘pay’ option to move ahead in the game. Each time you waste money on a game, it fills the pockets of the developers. The next time you are waiting to pick your kid up from school, read a book rather than getting lured into the money trap spun by game developers.
These money traps are potentially dangerous as they make you mindlessly shop and in return impact your savings. How to avoid money traps then? Stay committed to the cause of saving money. Remind yourself of more important things such as investing in health care funds for your kids and house maintenance. When you have your priorities right as a mother and wife, these landmines can be safely ignored. Read more
