The Yoga Diet - Sattvic Diet That Balances Your Body and Soul
A sattvic diet, also referred to as the Yoga diet is one which does not include the flesh of any living beings or any food items which may increase energy, such as onion, garlic and a few types of pulses. The concept of this diet also emphasises on moderate eating and includes food items that are pure in nature and which energise our body as well as our mind.
What Is the Yoga Diet?
Yoga diet, also is known as yogic diet lays stress on vegetarianism, excluding onion and garlic. It is also termed as 'lacto-vegetarian' which basically means the exclusion of meats and fish but includes dairy products and honey. The diet belongs to the 'sattva guna', and following this diet is believed to achieve a healthy balance of body and mind.
Benefits of Yogic Diet
Yogic diet, or sattvic diet benefits the body, mind and soul in innumerable ways. Few of them are as follows.
In the yogic diet, it is a rule to start the day with a glass of warm water with lemon juice in it. This cleanses the body and helps it to get rid of harmful toxins. By the process of regular detoxification, organs in the body can function well, as a result of which the body is devoid of ailments and diseases.
The satvik diet not only keeps one physically fit, but also mentally agile. It is a diet which balances the body, mind and soul, thereby resulting in longevity of life in an individual.
The yoga diet believes in eating in moderation, therefore the yoga diet for weight loss is one of the best ways to lose fat, and it also strengthens your body’s immunity power at the same time. Following the diet along with a few minutes of yoga, pranayama or some physical activity will keep you away from all types of lifestyle diseases like blood pressure, diabetes, etc.
Sattvic diet includes green leafy vegetables, fruits and sprouts and is devoid of heat inducing foods like meat, fish, onion, garlic, etc. Therefore, it does not take much of hard work for the digestive system to digest the food; the end result of which is proper bowel movement, clear skin, etc.
Sattvic foods include ghee, coconut oil, sprouted seeds, etc. These make the food tasty. Moreover, the good fats in the diet help in keeping your brain healthy and your memory sharp.
Basics of Yoga Diet
Listed below are some of the basics of yoga diet plan.
1. Food has to be Sattvic
The food should be pure and fresh, one that helps the body to sustain and calms the mind. The sattvic diet includes food that will keep a person healthy, physically as well as mentally agile and balanced in both body and mind.
2. It Comprises of Vegetarian Food
The diet includes all types of vegetables except onion and garlic which induces heat in the body. The presence of only green and leafy vegetables in the yoga diet makes it easily digestible, thereby resulting in a healthy digestive system. Exclusion of meat/flesh of animals keeps the body from too many toxins and uric acid which may result in various diseases like gout, cancer, skin diseases, etc. This also keeps the heart healthy. Non-vegetarian food like animal protein is full of unhealthy fats which gives rise to high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
3. The Food Ingredients Should Be Organic
Since a satvik diet emphasises on fresh and chemical-free ingredients, it is best to use organic products for yoga diet recipes. This also includes dairy products made from the milk of organically fed cows and buffaloes.
4. The Food Should Always Be Fresh
Food that is eaten on a yoga diet should not be just prepared from organic and fresh ingredients, but it should be freshly cooked; this means the food cooked cannot be refrigerated and eaten later. It has to be eaten right after it has been cooked.
5. Food Should Be Eaten at a Set Time Everyday
The meals eaten in a yogic diet should be eaten at the same time every day. Like for instance, if breakfast is eaten at 7 am, then it should be so every day. This makes the body expect food during that time, and thus it becomes easy for it to function better.
6. Meals Should Be Eaten 2 Hours before Practicing Asana or Sleeping
Food needs time to get digested, or it can affect your bowel movements as well as other organs, giving rise to diseases and obesity. Therefore, in a yoga lifestyle diet, it is mandatory to eat two hours before you practising yoga or going to sleep.
7. Fasting
Another important rule in a yoga diet is - fast for a day every week. The fast can either be without any food and liquid, being only on liquids or eating fruits and fruit juice.
8. No Intake of Caffeine or Alcohol
People on a sattvic diet should abstain from tea, coffee, alcohol, tobacco or artificial sweeteners.
9. No Place for Ahimsa
People who are on a sattvic diet should religiously practice ahimsa or non-violence. This is the reason why diet forbids the intake of animal protein. You can do so by not just excluding non-vegetarian food from your diet but also practising small things which will make a difference to the environment. For example, keeping small pots of water for birds to drink from, keeping some bird food in the balcony or window sill, refraining from cutting down trees, and planting trees in your area, etc.
10. Abstain From Unhealthy Thoughts
It is not just the abstinence from certain food items or violence, but also from bad thoughts. Practising meditation and yoga regularly is the best way to avoid such thoughts.
Foods to Eat When You Are on Yoga Diet
The following are foods that should be eaten while on a yoga diet.
All types of fruits which have ripened naturally.
Every green and leafy vegetable; however, there should be no use of onion and garlic.
Whole grain products like rice, oats and wheat.

Cinnamon, cardamom, mint, basil, fennel, turmeric, ginger and cumin to make food appetising.
Legumes
Sprouted seeds
Alkaline foods
Mostly uncooked food or foods which have been cooked less to retain the nutrition, and foods that have less oil and spices.
Foods to Avoid When Following Yoga Diet Plan
The foods that you should abstain from while on a yogic diet are the following:
All types of non-vegetarian food like animal protein, fish and eggs.
Processed food like white sugar, maida etc.
Junk, oily and fried food
Onion, garlic, or food which is spicy
Artificial sweeteners
Soda or fizzy drinks
Alcohol
Caffeinated beverages like tea, coffee, etc.
Foods made or heated in a microwave
Stale food
Refrigerated items
Tobacco
The sattvic or yoga diet is the best type of diet to follow if you wish to have a healthy body along with a peaceful mind. Combine this type of diet with yoga and meditation to enhance the powers of a yogic diet. For people wanting to lose fat, a good yoga diet chart for weight loss will make a difference. Practice a sattvic lifestyle, and you will never look back!

Scavenger Hunt for Kids - Benefits and Ideas
It is always fun teaching kids through fun and games, and one of the best and most fun ways of helping your child develop some much-needed life skills such as problem-solving, reading, building teamwork, and getting some good exercise for both the mind and body is through a scavenger hunt.
What is a Scavenger Hunt?
A scavenger hunt is a famous and most loved game that can be played by either teams or individuals where they compete to see who can gather all the items from a list. The first team or person to collect all the items on the list is pronounced the winner.
Benefits of Scavenger Hunt for Children
Scavenger hunts have many benefits for children that are hard to ignore. Here are a few to think about:
1. Easy Customisation
The liberty one has with this game is quite pleasing as you can literally customise the game to suit your child’s interests. If you have a child who is really into math, you can always include math on the list by asking them to find “2+3 pink ribbons” or “10-7 dog biscuits.” The place of the game is another area where you have freedom in customising. Take your kids to the beach for a summer scavenger hunt.
2. Teaches Teamwork
Whether it is for a competition with a prize or whether it is just for fun, the game teaches children to work together in order to solve the clues and find their next item. Learning how to work in a team is a very important life skill and often encourages socialising in children.
3. Builds Problem Solving Skills
One of the most beneficial ways of teaching a child something is through hands-on learning. Practical learning is always the best way to teach children things in a way that ensures it remains in their memories for much longer.
4. Exercise for Body and Mind
While we have seen how it exercises the mind during problem-solving, scavenger hunts also have a way of exercising the body. After all, your child will be climbing over things and running hither and thither trying to solve the clues and find the items on the list. Whether the game is played indoors or out, the challenge it presents for your kids will be in your hands.
5. Educational
Help your child to identify colours, shapes, textures and even get them to count by getting them to find a pair of woollen socks. Here you have a chance to teach your child what a “pair” of things are if they do not already know.
How is a Scavenger Hunt Different from a Treasure Hunt?
Though the two games are often similar, they have some major differences. A Treasure hunt usually consists of a series of clues, one leading to the next until eventually, they find their “treasure” which is something that is of more value than the items used for scavenger hunts.
Scavenger hunts, on the other hand, are about finding different items on the list. The items are often very simple things such as a pebble or a cup.
8 Fun Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Children
If you feel like a scavenger hunt is just what the doctor ordered, but it can be difficult thinking of what to add to a scavenger hunt list for kids. Don’t worry; we have your back! Here are scavenger hunt ideas for kids to inspire you:
1. Rainbow Hunt
This one is a fun hunt idea for young children who have not really learned how to read yet.
What You Will Need
Paint swatches from a paint store
How To
Staple your paint swatches together to make your list. Your toddler needs to find objects in her surrounding that is match the colour of the swatch at hand. For example, if your first colour is blue, your toddler only needs to bring you any blue item that mostly resembles the shade you picked.
2. Numbered Hunt
A fun way to teach the little one how to learn numbers.
What You Will Need
An empty egg carton
Plastic numbers

Number an egg carton and then have your little one find the numbers that you hid around the house. Once they are found, all he has to do is put them in the correct spot. The plastic number 4 goes into the egg spot number 4.
3. Letter Hunt
This game will help your little one to learn to recognise the alphabets.
What You Will Need
A sheet of paper with lower case alphabets
Capital plastic alphabets

Similar to the numbers hunt, this one will require your child to find an alphabet and match it to the small letter on the sheet of paper. It helps to place the paper on a table or floor and have your child place the letters on top of the corresponding small case letter.
4. Nature Scavenger Hunt
Another one for the toddlers who cannot read yet, this one includes pictures.
What You Will Need
Create a list on Word by copy-pasting some simple images and caption them. They could be of a leaf, a flower, a rock etc

5. Grocery Scavenger Hunt

What You Will Need
A bag to collect items in
How To
This version of the game requires your child to visit the neighbours and ask to borrow items such as a safety pin or a pen
7. Animal Hunt
This game is for slightly older children who can solve riddles. Make the game more challenging for them by adding indoor scavenger hunt riddles for kids rather than simply adding the names of the items.
What You Will Need
Plastic animals
List of riddles
How To
Hide the plastic animals around the house and then give your child the list that contains simple riddles like “I like to eat grass, I like to say moo. I am in the place you go to make poo” which will make your child have to figure out the animal and where to find it.
8. Party Scavenger Hunt
This kids party scavenger hunt is fun and informative for the kids.
What You Will Need
Ingredients for a simple treat such as a sponge cake
How To
Give the kids the list of ingredients and ask them to assemble them all on the kitchen counter. When the excitement of getting the ingredients together is over, you can delight the children by showing them how to make the sponge cake and letting them eat it when it is ready.
It is very easy to customise scavenger hunts according to the occasion and what skills you want your child to practice, so go on and get creative. Your children will find doing and learning many things interesting if you find ways to make a game out of it.

Dream Comes True!
To have a Baby Girl was my Dream
Yes! Becoming mother of a daughter is perfectly a PERFECT gift for me. I am glad to have a daughter as since the very first day when I knew about my pregnancy, I was dreaming and praying to have a daughter. It is like to see my own reflection as if playing with "little Me". It is a Journey which I never want to end but I know one day these tiny fingers will definitely fly in her own tune. I will keep praying to GOD that let her fly with grace and power. As a mother I will let her fly and fullfill her dreams. I will make her fearless and independent so that she must feel that she is enough.
My days, weeks, months just vanishes and time runs as if somebody has tigger the clock. I seriously don't understand why children grow so fast? Is there any wheel attached to their body. No, seriously I never get enough of her and time runs. I always keep looking my phone memory pics and keep capturing it. I think it will never ever going to satisfies me enough to love her and care for her. Now, she is two years ten months old and she talks so much but I love to listen her all half spoken words, sentences. I make sure that she also feels happy to share everything as I feel when she speaks. She started helping me also in her own way which makes me super happy that she also cares for me. She is so small but still she wants her mommy to help. I keep pulling, squeezing her cheeks for that and she keeps making faces. It is a incredible feeling.
For me, it is truly
A Dream Comes True to have her in my life.
Thankyou so much...

A. Yes it is the what part is that your child is kicking if you feel that there is a movement of your child whether it is a cake or slight movement also you know that your child is doing fine so there is no problem in that if the movement is less it’s completely alright

Q. #asktheexperts what to do if the baby’s nose is blovked

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.

A. You can check with an ovulation kit if it is positive then you can certainly go ahead with the conception because ovulation kit is going to give you 100% clarity whether you are ovulating or not with that you can try practising if you can conceive the same time
