Antioxidant Rich Foods Your Kids Must Start Eating Today
Pizzas, burgers, French fries – these are the kind of foods your kids enjoy and eat readily. Yummy as they are, they are loaded with fats and carbohydrates, and have little else to offer. And being well aware of that, you try to sneak in healthier foods like green vegetables and whole grains. But it’s an uphill climb, what with your child refusing to eat them. For no child cares about the nutrition value of their meals; all they care about is that it should be yummy! What if we told you that there are certain foods whose goodness you are missing out on - foods that are as healthy as they are delicious and actually make your kids stronger and more resilient?
So can you guess what it is you have been missing out on? Antioxidants.
What exactly are antioxidants and how do they benefit us?
In our increasingly polluted world, our bodies have to fight hard against infections and diseases. Did you know there's a secret and all-natural weapon to fight these and improve immunity? Yes, that secret weapon is known as antioxidants. Simply put, antioxidants are nutrients like vitamins A, C and E found in certain fruits, vegetables and legumes. Let's take a look.
1. Sweet potato
Loaded with vitamin A, the sweet potato is the healthier and sweeter version of the regular potato. The high percentage of beta-carotene content—which, by the way, is more than that in green leafy vegetables— makes it an extremely rich antioxidant.
How to get your child to eat them: Sweet potatoes taste best roasted and even fried like regular French fries.
2. Prunes
Prunes or dried plums are one of the best sources of antioxidants. Rich in soluble and insoluble fibre, vitamin A, iron, and even essential minerals like potassium, magnesium and copper, prunes have totally earned their superfood status. Low fat, low salt, low calories, and still lip smacking...what’s not to love?
How to get your child to eat them: Puree some Del Monte prunes and add them to plain yogurt for a sweet new flavor of yogurt your child won’t be able to resist. These prunes are of premium quality and dried from the freshest plums. You can also try some of the creative (and yummy!) recipes with prunes available on the Del Monte India Facebook page. These recipes may just become the next family favourite!
3. Red capsicum
Sweet and crispy, red capsicum is far healthier than its green and yellow counterparts. Low in calories, it has two times more vitamin C and A. Not to mention its vibrant red color makes it far more appetizing!
How to get your child to eat them: No, you do not need to order a pizza to get your child to eat red bell pepper. Simply roast and puree them and serve hot...it tastes just like tomato soup.
4. Raisins
Who would have thought that this yummy treat is good for your little ones? With all the debate surrounding whether raisins are healthy or not, truth is that raisins are healthy and should certainly be a part of your child’s daily diet. The dried form of grapes, these little fellows have three times more antioxidants than grapes. And since they are easy to carry wherever you go and adored by kids of all ages, this is one food item you must certainly not forego.
How to get your child to eat them: Pack it as a snack in their tiffin – and don’t expect the tiffin to return home empty.
5. Cocoa Powder
This one is something that will make your kids love you even more! Packed with minerals like calcium, magnesium and sodium, cocoa is better than chocolate in more ways than one.
How to get your child to eat it: Add a spoonful of cocoa and a dash of sugar to your child’s daily glass of milk – and watch him gulp it down in minutes.
Including these items in your child’s daily meals will ensure he gets his quota of antioxidants. This will help him stay stronger against infection and disease and allow him to make the most of the glorious days of childhood. So moms, go ahead and treat your child to a serving of yummy prunes and a glass of cocoa right away! Read more

How I Finally Realised My Son Was a Born Rockstar!
It all started with the usual stroll in the neighbourhood garden. As Papa started clicking pictures, V started posing. When the duo came back and showed me the pictures, I was amazed. Clad in his usual T-shirt and pyjamas, but his poses and expressions and the attitude was mind-blowing. When my husband told me that it was V who suggested all the poses, it was as though a wire in my brain got charged and sent a brainwave.
The very next day I saw an ad for the country's biggest fashion show for kids. Was this another sign? Could V do it? Let's see how it goes. We will at least know if its even worth a thought. With all these thoughts, I registered his name for the event. There was going to be an audition round and then the selected children would get to do ramp walk with the designers. But will he make it through the auditions with thousands of other so-called normal children? There were too many questions running in my head but I tried not to think about the outcome.
A week after that got a message from a friend that there is going to be a talent-cum-fashion show in Delhi. This time they had a separate category for children with Downs Syndrome. Was this yet another sign? This would be a very good opportunity for V to showcase his talent and for him to shed any inhibitions. Nonetheless, it will be a good practice for him for the mega event in later part of the year. So, I went ahead and put his name for this one too.
V was supposed to walk the ramp and then dance. We asked his dance teacher to make him prepare one song. The night before the event, V performed for his favorite audience - mummy and papa and was all prepared to go. His excitement reflected in his twinkling eyes as he put on new clothes and dabbed a little make-up. He was raring to go.
We reached the venue in time and completed all the formalities. I was overwhelmed to see so much young talent around me. Children were singing, dancing, playing drums, hula-hooping and what not. As we were getting entertained, V was getting impatient for his turn to arrive. After every performance, he would ask if he could go next.
It had been almost three hours since he was waiting for his turn and V was getting very impatient now. He was frequently going near the corner where water bottles were kept and demanded to drink water. He had to be taken to the washroom every half an hour otherwise he has a tendency to pee in his pants. In between, I also stuffed him the paranthas brought from home. There were just three kids now before V's turn and his mood was at his worst. He was tired, sleepy and irritated. As I was asking him to stand still, he just wanted to sit down and looked very grumpy. I knew it was not his mistake. Maybe I was expecting too much from him. Maybe I should not push him so much.
As I was consoling myself by my own thoughts, I heard an “o...wow” from the audience. V's number was called and he was walking on the ramp towards the judges. His walk and confidence would put any professional model to shame. Dumbstruck, I watched him reach to the judges, pick up the mic and announce his name in his unclear voice. I rushed behind to translate his words to the judges. When asked which song he would like to dance on, he said his favorite “swag se swagat”, a completely different song than what we had practised! I asked him if he was sure, but he ignored me and the music started playing. As he swaggered to Salman Khan's moves, the audience and the judges cheered on with “Once More”.
Just five minutes before I had absolutely no hopes that he would even walk up to the judges. It was as though he was a professional and completely transformed when it was showtime. He did not let his frustration or irritation reflect in his performance. A quality many of us aspire to have. He completely owned the stage. That day I realized, a Rockstar is born!

Methi Mutter Malai
Methi and mutter i.e. fenugreek and peas, makes for a luscious combination. The way their flavours blend with each other in a creamy base is simply awesome. Besides, the fragrant dry masala paste adds that extra zing to the curry. Speaking of pungency however, this curry is mild on the spice parameter and goes exceptionally well with plained steamed rice or jeera rice. Conjure up this curry on a weekend and sit down for a wholesome meal with your family.

Cooking Time

20-25 Minutes
Ingredients
2 cups fresh methi leaves, chopped
1 cup green peas, boiled
1 cup fresh cream / malai
2 tbsp ghee or oil
¼ or ½ cup water
Sugar as required (optional)
Salt to taste
A handul coriander leaves, chopped
For the Paste
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp cumin seeds
3-4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 inch ginger, chopped
1 or 2 Nos green chilies, chopped
½ cup cashewnuts
Method
Making the Paste
Add all the ‘for the paste’ ingredients in a mixer jar and pulse without water. If the mixture is too thick to grind, add a little water. However, a thick paste is what is required.
How to Proceed
Step 1
Keep a heavy-bottom pan on medium-high heat and pour ghee or oil.
Step 2
Add the ground paste and saute the paste for 4 -5 min. The paste should be fried till it starts emitting a fragrant aroma.
Step 3
Keep stirring to avoid the paste from sticking and burning to the pan.
Step 4
If required, add a little water so that the paste does not stick to the pan.
Step 5
Next, add methi leaves and ¼ cup water or more. The addition of water should be done keeping in mind that the end consistency of the curry should be thick and not runny.
Step 6
Mix well and keep simmering for 10 min.
Step 7
Now, you need to add the boiled peas and cream.
Step 8
Keep on the flame for 5-6 mins and let it simmer.
Step 9
Add a little sugar and salt and give a good stir.
Step 10
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve the curry hot naan, parathas, phulkas or steamed rice.

7 Ways You Can Make Your Relationships Last a Lifetime!
Did you know that a few habits that create positive relationships is what you need to be appreciated and cherished by everyone around you? Read on and find out what they are. If extra effort is all you require to develop healthy connections, it's definitely worth a try.
You may create the best presentations and seal deals like a pro, but if your relationships with people are maladjusted, there’s something missing- therein lies the bitter truth. If you haven’t been giving importance to cementing healthy bonds, it’s time you begin.
7 Habits that Create Positive Relationships
To create, develop, and hold on to relationships that can last for a lifetime (and we don't mean just your significant other!), here's what you can do:
1. Being Respectful
It's the first thing parents teach children. You must remind your little ones of it everyday too. Respect is the most important ingredient of a positive relationship regardless of the age, stature or occupation of a person. Once in a while you could lose your temper but make sure you don't hurt others' self-esteem.
2. Learning to Accept Differences
The person you want to develop a positive relationship with is an individual and not your clone. There will be a lot of differences between the two of you but don't let that deter you. The secret to positive and strong connections is to accept differences and enjoy them or at least be tolerant. It’ll do wonders for your relationships.
3. Listening and Responding
How many times has your little one complained about you not paying attention when he talks? This is not only rude but you’re teaching him something you’d definitely not appreciate in future. Be all-ears as far as possible when someone talks to you and make sure to respond. It’ll go a long way in developing positive relationships.
4. Appreciating the Good Things
Being critical about someone’s weaknesses is easy but it certainly won’t help you develop a good relationship with them. No one’s perfect and that includes you, so focus on people’s virtues and appreciate them. They’ll warm up to you and who knows? They might even try to work on their vices.
5. Keeping in Touch
How do you build positive relationships in this fast-paced world? With your busy schedule, you might not get enough time to chat and meet with friends and family. But it’s not all that difficult to stay in touch nowadays, thanks to technology. You can drop messages and emails when you’re busy and catch up on social media.
6. Giving Space
Don't confuse positive relationships with breathing down each other’s necks. The great ones are all about bonding with enough space. You don’t always need to tag along with your husband and children or insist that he spend all his free time at home. Learn to enjoy space. It’s good for any relationship.
7. Learning to Forgive
Everyone makes mistakes, but what’s important is to forgive and move on. Hanging on to a grudge will ruin a connection. If making amends outright is tough, take baby steps by apologising and giving the other person the opportunity to do the same or at least think things through.
Love and laughter are all you need for creating positive relationships with others. In order to build great connections, it’s important that you love yourself. Go ahead and make that extra effort to develop fulfilling relationships with the people around you. Read more
