7 Years Old Behaviour Problems and Disciplining Strategies
Your seven-year-old child is becoming more independent and can easily perform daily tasks such as bathing by himself, dressing on his own or even making himself a breakfast cereal. Your child at this age may not need hands-on supervision but he may need constant guidance and support. Your kid may like to make his own choices and preferences at this stage. However, sometimes you may find your seven-year-old child’s behaviour to be erratic, he may talk back to you or even lie to you. Why is your kid behaving like this? There are many behavioural developments happening at this age. Here’s all you need to know about seven-year-old child’s behaviour problems and what all discipline strategies you can adopt as a parent.
What is the Normal Behaviour of a 7-Year-Old Child?
Every kid is different and his behaviour may majorly depend on various factors such as his environment, his emotional development, and his physical development. Therefore, the behaviour of a child will be greatly influenced by these factors. However, here we have some behavioural traits of a seven-year-old child:
1. The Physical Behaviour
Your kid at this age is a powerhouse of energy and may enjoy loads of physical activities. The physical activities help your kid to develop better motor-skills and gain physical strength. Though your kid may still struggle with his handwriting issues at this stage as his fine-motor skills are still developing. Because of engaging in a lot of physical activity all through the day, your child will require 10 to 12 hours of sleep at this stage.
2. The Social Behaviour
Your kid may become very friendly by this age and may also like to have many friends. He develops an attachment with his friends too. He may get close to a few and may be wary of others.
3. The Cognitive Behaviour
Your child has a better attention span by now; he is able to concentrate and will even take detailed commands or instructions from you. He may like to share or impart his knowledge or what he has learnt in school with others. He may also pick up habits from his peer group and follow them too.
4. The Emotional Behaviour
Your kid at this age is more stable in terms of dealing with his emotions. He may adjust well to any sudden changes or transitions. Though he may still find it difficult to handle or practise self-control, which will become better as he grows but he is certainly getting better at dealing with unexpected situations.
What Are Behaviour Issues in Seven Year Old Child?
Here are some common behaviour issues or some common 7 year old bad attitude problems:
1. Lying
Lying is one of the most common problems in kids of this age. It is very important to understand the root cause of it. Sometimes kids lie because they are unable to make clear segregation between reality and fantasy. Parents should analyse the circumstances and situations that lead to this behaviour in their kid.
2. Defiance
Your kid may defy your orders or simply ignore what you expect him to do. Sometimes this behaviour is an indication of your kid trying to test his boundaries with the parents and till where he can get away with it. Your kid may be establishing his likes and dislikes and thus defying what you may expect him to do.
3. Emotional Swings
It is very common for kids at this age to experience emotional swings. This is because the kid at this age is at the threshold of preteens and he is not a preschooler any longer, this may confuse him and cause emotional swings.
4. Willing to Be Affectionate in Public
You may notice your little one exercising more affection in public than in private. This may be due to the need of attention from the parents. Though this is very contrasting behaviour that is what this age is all about, that is handling confusion.
5. Anger
Anger is one of the most difficult behaviour problems in 7-year-olds. This may be described as mood swings, talking back, frustration, impulsiveness or other such behavioural traits. It is very normal for a child of this age to feel resentment or get angry; however, if the anger is getting out of control or defining your kid’s basic behaviour then you need to act.
Parenting Tips for Disciplining a 7 Year Old Kid with Behaviour Problems
Here are some tips for the parents for disciplining their 7-year-old kid with a behaviour problem:
1. Talk to Your Kid
Your kid is at an age where he is able to understand, what you tell him to do. Therefore, the first and foremost thing to solve any kind of behaviour issue with your kid is to talk to him about the same.
2. Let Your Kid Know His Boundaries
Kids who are aware or know what they are expected to do, tend to behave better. Tell your kid about his limits and what he can and cannot do.
3. Be Positive
Always adopt a positive approach in dealing with your kid; if you want respect, make sure you also give respect to your kid and his choices. Refrain from shouting or scolding your kid. Talk in a nice manner and explain the problem.
4. Make Use of Quite-Time
Ask your kid to sit quietly and think about his mistakes and behaviour, instead of you telling him what mistakes he has committed.
5. Use Logical Explanation
Try and give valid explanations for your decisions and actions and refrain from giving any illogical explanations.
6. Be on Your Kid’s Side
Help your kid in understanding his fault and mistakes and then solve various problems together. Be on his side and work on the problems as a team.
You can effectively manage various behaviour issues of your kid by following the above-mentioned tips. Alternatively, you may talk to your doctor about the same and know what can be done to solve such issues.

Here are some safe Diwali tips for you and your family.
Dos
Buy fireworks only from a government licensed shop.
Always keep the fireworks in a closed safety box.
Store crackers away from sources of fire.
Keep crackers away from toddlers and babies.
Follow the instructions written on the crackers box and follow all the safety precautions.
Burst crackers only in open spaces, like playgrounds and fields.
While lighting ‘rockets’, ensure that they face upward and do not face an open window, door or road.
Light the crackers from an arm’s length distance and not any closer.
Discard the used crackers in a bucket of water.
Always keep buckets of water and blankets ready in case of an accident.
Keep a first aid kit handy when bursting firecrackers to treat minor injuries at home.
Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby to ensure safety during Diwali.
Make sure that kids are wearing appropriate footwear while lighting fireworks.
Park your vehicles in garages.
Make your kids wear light and fitting cotton clothes while bursting crackers.
Don’ts
Don’t burn fireworks and crackers in crowded places, narrow lanes, near sources of ignition or inside the house.
Don’t let your kids burst crackers in your absence.
Don’t keep fireworks in pockets or bags.
Do not examine crackers that were lit but did not burst. Let it go and light a new one.
Don’t light crackers while holding them in your hands. Always keep a safe distance from the cracker while lighting. Exercise daredevilry in more secure and productive activities.
Avoid loose clothes as they can catch fire quickly. Do not wear clothes made of silk and synthetic material.
Do not keep lit diyas or candles near curtains or inflammable materials.
Do not light multiple firecrackers at once as it can lead to an accident.
Do not use matches or lighters to light up the crackers.
Do not experiment with firecrackers or make your own crackers.

Water for Baby Formula - Know What Works Better for Your Child
When you have decided to give baby formula to your little one, the next thing that you need to think about is the water that you will be using for this. The baby formula needs to be mixed with water, and it is important to know how and what kind you will use. There are questions that have been raised by parents regarding the safety of using boiled water or bottled water and other types when they use it for the formula. One thing to note is that you have to be sure of the water quality. Otherwise, your little one’s developing body might not be able to handle it.
What Kind of Water is Best for Baby Formula?
While using baby formula, there are certain things that need to be kept in mind. Most prescriptions will tell you that you need to use safe water for baby formula. Well, this could be quite confusing as you might be wondering what exactly is safe water for formula fed babies.
It is always advisable to check the nature and the quality of water that is coming to your house. This will give you an idea of how safe it is to use. Also consulting a doctor is a great way to figure it out.
Types of Water You Can Use :
1. Bottled Water Just For Babies : Using bottled water for babies is a safe option as the water is mostly purified for the little one to consume. However, make sure to check the bottle description for quality once again.
2. Tap Water : Tap water is not recommended for use in baby formula. Well, there are places that have extremely pure water, and this can be used. However, at many places tap water has other chemical substances in it which can lead to complications.
3. Bottled Water : After all these little details given to you, you must be wondering can you use bottled water for baby formula? Bottle water is good as long as there are no extra constituents added to it for taste. Some companies add chemicals to make their bottled water tastier. This must definitely be brought to check.
Should You Boil The Water?
It is important to make sure that the water is clean and pure and it is absolutely safe for children. Boiled water gives you the assurance that all sorts of bacteria and germs are killed. However, when you boil water, make sure that you are cooling the water to make baby formula.
Is Fluoride The Only Thing to be Avoided for Baby's Formula?
The American Dental Association is also known as ADA has reported that high concentrations of fluoride are not a wise option. This is because excessive fluoride intake can lead to fluorosis. Fluoride is obviously one of the most important things you need to check. However, you also need to check and avoid if the water is too hard, as this can be highly unsafe for the little one. Too many minerals are also something that you need to watch out for.
Distilled Water for Baby Formula
There is hardly any research or disclaimer which says you need to use only distilled water in your baby formula. However, it is quite clear that distilled water has gone through purification and process and so it could be the safest one to use for your baby formula.
Distilled water also is not hard, and its calcium and magnesium are removed to a large extent. The minerals that exist in soft water is usually less than 17.1 mg/l.
If you have the public water system, then make sure to get information from the local water utility. Mineral water for baby formula is not recommended as it could contain concentrated minerals that are meant for the adult body.
Water You Should Avoid?
There are a few water quality checks that you must perform to figure out if the water that you use is safe for your baby. You need to check the minerals and other components to know if it is purified water for baby formula. There are a couple of things that you can keep an eye out for.
1. Well Water
You might not be sure of how pure the well water is. In fact, rainwater collected from the ground should be safe by itself. But since it collects all the dust and impurities from the atmosphere, it is best to avoid it.
2. Water Containing High-Levels of Fluoride
You might have heard that fluoride is absolutely safe to use when making baby formula for your little one. However, this is not true because high levels of fluoride can lead to problems in your little one.
You need to figure out the fluoride content in the water. If this is less than 0.7/ mg/L, then you are good to go. Sometimes, you can spot bottled water which clearly mentions that it is demineralized and purified, these are comparatively safe water for baby formula. This water is also low in fluoride, and so it is ok for the child.
Instructions for Boiling Water
Boil the water for a minute. Mae sure not to boil it too much as this can invite impurities.
Allow the water to come to a lukewarm or room temperature and then you can mix it with the baby formula.
It is best not to use the boiling water directly as it could lead to the formation of clumps and also can reduce the nutritional value.
Easy Steps for Preparing Best Water for Baby Formula
Make sure to keep your hands clean by washing it well.
Pour the required amount of water into the bottle.
Add scoops of baby formula powder into the bottle.
Close it with the cap and shake it.
Some formula will require it to be a little warm. So use a hot water bath to make it warm and do not use a microwave.
Your little one needs the best of everything at this point, including drinking water. At times, we might think that it is just water and there is no need to panic. However, remember that water is one of the most common things that can cause a lot of complications if it is not clean. Hence make sure you do your quality check and keep your baby safe and free from any sort of health difficulties. It is these little steps that you take to protect your baby that will go a long way.

Overweight and Trying to Get Pregnant?
It is a very widely known fact that chances of getting pregnant increase manifold if you are healthy and follow a healthy lifestyle. Being overweight lowers the chances of getting pregnant because of the fluctuating hormone levels. This affects the ovulation cycle of women and also the quality of eggs. Excess weight is known to interfere with the ovulation cycle, causing irregular periods. Though obese people do get pregnant without the need of any medical intervention, the more the weight increases, the less regular is the menstrual cycle.
Does Obesity Affect Female Fertility?
Can being overweight cause infertility? Well, yes it does. The lifestyle we follow and the choices we make are responsible for us being healthy or otherwise. A healthy pregnancy is the key to a healthy newborn. Being overweight undoubtedly affects the chances of having a healthy pregnancy. Let us look at the effect of obesity on fertility when trying to get pregnant:
1. Hormonal Imbalance
There are a lot of hormones that the body produces to ensure the smooth functioning of all the organs. Excess weight causes an imbalance in the hormone levels which in turn affects the way the body functions. Overweight women tend to have higher levels of Leptin - a hormone produce mainly by the fatty tissues of the body and plays a major role in disrupting the hormone balance of the body.
2. Irregular Periods
Due to the hormonal imbalance, the brain is tricked into believing that the periods are not due anytime soon. This results in an irregular cycle of menstruation. This has a cumulative effect. Apart from the mood swings that the hormones cause, the release of eggs also becomes irregular. This makes it extremely difficult to time your intercourse in order to maximise your chances of pregnancy.
3. Quality of Eggs
The quality of eggs that the body produces is largely dependent on the health of the woman. A healthy body would produce a healthy egg, simultaneously, if you are overweight, the quality of your eggs will get compromised. Obesity is also responsible for anovulation, which means the ovary does not release any eggs in the uterus for a successful pregnancy.
4. Insulin Resistance
Overweight is associated with an increased resistance level of insulin, a phenomenon where more insulin is produced by the body to keep the blood sugar at a normal level. Women with a higher concentration of fat in the abdomen are susceptible to this problem. The rise in the insulin level in the body causes a fall in the hormone binding protein, Globulin, which is responsible for regulating the hormones oestrogen and androgen.
5. Affects Fertility
An irregular period coupled with irregular production of eggs reduces the chances of getting pregnant. Being overweight or obese has a significant impact on your fertility, and it can also increase the chances of your IVF being unsuccessful.
Tips to Get Pregnant If You are Overweight
Overweight and want to get pregnant? We are here to help you. It is not a difficult task to get pregnant even if you are on the higher side of the weighing scale. We offer some tips to help you have a successful pregnancy.
1. Healthy Lifestyle
Avoid alcohol, smoking, and drugs. Eat healthy food. It is time for you to start preparing your own meals so that you know what you are eating and you can control the ingredients used.
2. Pre-conception Checkup
Most of the women who are overweight have been found to have small cysts in the ovary, also known as PCOS, that is caused due to hormonal imbalance in the body resulting from being overweight. Losing weight and taking medications have been successful in reducing PCOS.
3. Time it Right
Excess weight causes irregular ovulation cycles. Use the ovulation kits that are available at the medical stores to correctly time your intercourse and increase your chances of pregnancy.
4. Exercise- Lots of it
Women with a BMI of 30 or more are at a greater risk of developing gestational diabetes or gestational hypertension. Exercise at home or go out to the park more often to increase your chances of being healthy and getting pregnant.
5. Go for Whole Foods
Whole foods keep you satiated for a longer time. They are healthy and bursting with nutrients that enrich your body and immune system. This will help you maintain a healthy weight to support your pregnancy.
Healthy habits go a long way in having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Don’t let your weight ruin your dreams of becoming a mother. If you plan your pregnancy well in advance and work on addressing your weight issues, it is just a matter of time before you have a successful pregnancy.

A. Hello mam! If it is due to colic pain /gas, it is common in newborns. Make sure that you burp your baby after every feed. Don't feed just before your baby is to sleep. Make a routine like feed, play and sleep. Burp inbetween feedings. Colic pain will stop automatically at 5 or 6 months. So don't worry. Happy parenting!
