Drinks & Beverages you should Avoid during Pregnancy
Your entire dietary lifestyle undergoes a 180 degree turn when you understand that you are pregnant. Your favourite food items might have to be shunned away and a few unwanted ones might have to be welcomed. Although all of this is for your benefit, there are some items that can be your guilty pleasure. A few drinks must be avoided during pregnancy. And while some women might know the most obvious ones to avoid, there are a few which might seem to be fine to be consumed, but have adverse effects on the mother and child.
What not to Drink when you're Pregnant?
In order to get some good clarity on what beverages are not beneficial, we have put together a list of things not to drink during pregnancy.
1. Milk or Juices that are not Pasteurised
Drinking good amounts of milk and having fruit juices is how most people begin their day on a good note, and for pregnant mothers, it is even more important. But milk and juices come in variants, too, especially the non-pasteurised one. Pasteurisation is a process that takes care of various bacteria and microbes present in the substance. If the milk that you buy or the juice box you purchased is not pasteurised, the bacteria present in it could be harmful to you. And since they enter your body, they could easily find their way to the baby via the placenta and cause irreversible damage.
2. Juice made from Wheatgrass
The benefits of wheatgrass are tremendous to such a high degree that most women believe that a healthy pregnancy without consuming wheatgrass is a rarity. However, very few people know about the presence of various microbes and moulds present in wheatgrass. The conditions in which wheatgrass is harvested are usually damp and moist, making it a paradise for various microbes to thrive. Since wheatgrass juice is made from raw wheatgrass, these germs find their way into the juice which, when consumed, causes a massive imbalance in the nutrients present in your body.
3. Diet Soda
Yes, the packaging might say that this is healthy to consume and is good for the diet but one of the key ingredients present in diet drinks is caffeine. That, too, is accompanied by artificial sweeteners, primary of which is saccharine. Saccharine is the most potent chemical to find its way through the placenta, reaching the baby with absolute ease. When consumed in excess, it can start affecting the baby’s growth and causing defects.
4. Coffee
Most women will groan at being reminded about this since drinking coffee is usually a pretty integral part of the morning routine for many. Complete abstinence from caffeine, while you are pregnant, is the most ideal practice. However, since it can be hard for many, you can start by restricting your consumption to no more than two cups in a day. Try to keep the consumption as minimum as possible, especially in the first trimester, since the risk of caffeine causing a miscarriage is pretty high around that time.
5. Iced Tea
For women who are usually pregnant in the summers, having refreshing and cool drinks might become a craving of sorts, too. Iced teas seem harmless since they don’t contain artificial sweeteners and are cold as well. But what many fail to observe is the tea part of it. The concentrated tea used in the drink contains a large amount of caffeine, which can cause real harm.
6. Aerated Beverages
The modern lifestyle followed by people today have made the consumption of various soft drinks a regular activity. Be it cola flavoured or fruit flavoured, accompanying them on any occasions goes with the flow. Those act as quite a refreshment as well, which is why pregnant women would tend to choose that instead of having any other drinks. But not only these beverages have caffeine in them, some of those tend to contain a chemical that goes by the name of quinine. The combination of caffeine and quinine can be hazardous for a pregnant woman.
7. Alcohol
This might be a no-brainer but there are still some who believe that a little consumption will not harm the child. What might be little for you, might be quite a lot for the developing baby. Alcohol causes severe defects in the child, right from bodily deformations, hindered brain development, and tons of others. And if you think that a single drink is fine, you’re dead wrong. Consuming one drink a day can still bring about a number of abnormalities in the baby.
8. Green Tea
This one’s quite a surprise, isn’t it? Deemed as a healthy drink through and through, knowing that it is harmful to pregnant women is news for many people. To add to the confusion, multiple websites and even nutritionist recommend green tea to pregnant women for its benefits and its advantages over having coffee or usual tea. But green tea does have some amount of caffeine as well. Furthermore, it elevates your metabolism which is already at its peak during pregnancy. That, combined with reduced folic acid absorption, can spell a bevvy of problems for the foetus.
While creating a diet for your pregnancy, moderation is always the key for items of guilty pleasure. However, keeping away from certain items is the best bet for your health as well as the baby’s development. Looking for healthy alternatives and developing a taste for them can ensure you have a trouble-free relaxed pregnancy throughout.

Oil massages are good for babies. Try to give your baby a relaxing massage with a mild oil like coconut oil. You can also use any other oil which suits your baby's skin type. You can choose coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil, etc. Massage your baby’s hands, feet, and back very gently to make them feel relaxed. Always try to use natural oils.

LIFE AFTER BABY ARRIVES-You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice
As a woman, we see changes in every stage of our life. Sometimes these changes are positive, sometimes negative. An important change in all these changes comes when we become a mother. Our whole world is different than before because now a small new life joins us, whose whole world or you would say that it would become our new world. You have often heard people say to you that when you become a mother, you will not be like you, you have to face so much struggling, etc but what happens you will realize only when you become a mom. One cannot deny that having a baby doesn't change anything. Your whole routine whether it is sleep, diet, hobbies everything will be new now. How you take it depends on you only. Here you will get to know some such common life changes which many of us will feel.

1.Daily routine: Now you cannot say what is your daily routine because your complete routine depends upon your baby. And your baby routine will be yours like when to breastfeed/feed, nap, bath, etc.
2.Expenditure: Money-saving worm will take birth in you automatically. You will think about saving money more by working on your expenses so that you can raise your child well.
3.Outing: Earlier, going out meant wearing nice clothes, looking stylish but now it would be a goal to just keep the baby ready with all their belongings. How do we look, we never bother again.
4. Entertainment: You will get more entertainment watching your baby's activities than watching any movie.
5.New Wardrobe: Instead of picking trendy and stylish clothes, you will love to wear comfortable loose cloth with a hair tie.
6.Baby based decision: Now you will take the baby in whichever decision you think of taking so that the baby does not suffer any harm from that decision.
7.Achievement: The biggest achievement for us is to make the baby calm down and sleep than anything else.
8.More of the baby then you: Your baby's pain became yours and hurts you more than yours. Now looking at the mirror is only looking at your baby than you.
9. Silence please: We now understand more about what silence means when a baby wakes up with the sound of our steps, even after working hard for so long to make him sleep.
10.Time management: Sitting simply, chatting become a past thing because we want free time to be utilized to do useful household things.
11.Relationship with a partner: More than love, we start talking with our partner that today you have taken less care or today it is your turn to make baby sleep. At the same time, we would get more respect for our partner when we see that he is supporting us in caring for the baby.
12:Shopping: At the time of shopping, we like the baby section more than ours.
13.Internet activity: After baby come, we start to read or watch more and more information related to the baby on the Internet.
14.Parents respect: This is such a change that almost comes into everyone's mind, we start to relate our current situation that we have brought up with the same kind of hard work by our parents, that we are dealing with. And we must have regretted ever doing anything wrong with ourparents.
15.Friendship: For us now the meaning of friendship would have changed a bit. We like to share more baby-related things with friends. At the same time, we want to talk more with those friends who already have a Baby so that we can get some suggestions from them.
16.Healthy eating habits: We like to eat healthy so that we will stay healthy and the baby also stay healthy.
17.Sleeping: The sooner we wake up after hearing Baby's voice, we have never been woken up that quickly with any alarm sound.
18.Complete cleanliness no laxity: We start paying more attention to cleanliness. We want everything related to the baby to be properly cleaned so that no infection can happen to the baby and it stays healthy.
19.No more worrying: During pregnancy, we had a lot of tension like how life would be after baby, will my figure go wrong, how will I manage things but when the baby arrived we forget everything because we become so busy with baby that no worry of ours makes us feel bad.
20.More ambitious: People say that the career is over after having a child, we won't be able to pursue our career anymore, but after having a baby we would become more active and do new field exploration so that we can balance both work and baby. We would also get to know the qualities of ours which we had never thought of. Read more

Five fun things to keep your child busy during this lockdown
By Bani Dey John
Yes, the lockdown is most harsh for the kids who are trapped inside the house. But they are fighting brave, actually better than us. They somehow find ways to keep themselves busy. I am sure they all now know what this lockdown means. Here are my top five which my kid does to keep herself busy.
Learn dance and music: Music heals everything and dancing expresses your emotions. My kid suddenly wanted to learn kathak and learned some basic moves of kathak and ballet from YouTube. She even learns basic of classical singing. It actually helped her improve her dancing skills.
Art : Yes, whenever she says I want to watch TV, I give her something to draw and now she draws everyday. Even sometimes she draw something which makes no sense but it keeps her busy. Just give them colours and see their rainbow. It sure makes them happy.
Reading books: Books are your best friend. During this time for sure. Make a habit for the child to read one story everyday before going to bed. It will help to improve their writing skills. They can pen down there experience of lockdown as well.
Helping mommy: Yes, give them work like watering plants, dusting, arranging cushions, keep their toys and books tidy. And also play with the little one when momma is busy in kitchen. My stress level goes down when the elder one dons my role happily.
Watch kids movie: Make them watch interesting kids movies like Frozen, Lion King and other interesting stuff. It helps to improve their vocab and generate new ideas. My child now only speaks English in accent😀 and records her videos making imaginative stories.
Hope these tips help you keep your child engaged in some activity apart from long watching hours on television and mobile phone which affects their mind and eyes.
Share your thoughts and reviews too. Happy Quarantine. Read more
