Top 11 Language Development Activities for Toddlers
Communication is a crucial aspect of cognitive development in children. Language development is essential to enable learning. If your child can speak and understand well, his learning and reading will also improve. If you find that your toddler has trouble with his language or hasn’t started to efficiently speak even after a certain age, you can engage him in a few fun activities that will help him develop his language skills.
11 Activities for Language Development in Toddlers
The following communication and language activities for toddlers can help your child learn and model his language skills.
1. Play the Telephone Game
A toy telephone can be an active part of your little one's playtime. Get a pair of toy telephones and pretend that you are dialling his number to call him. Encourage him to pick up the phone and answer. Teach him how to say 'hello' when he answers the phone. Doing this activity regularly can help your child develop good phone etiquette and improve his speaking skills.
2. Sing With Him
Singing lyrics of rhymes and songs can help your toddler improve his language while having fun. You may also introduce new words and teach him nouns and verbs using a song.
3. Play 'Name the Thing'
Point to various objects in your house and ask your toddler to name them. You can help him with the names until he begins to say them on his own. This is an easy way to build and improve his vocabulary. This game can be played anywhere - your house, in the park, or even in the supermarket.
4. Speak in Complete Sentences
Ask your toddler simple questions and encourage him to speak in complete sentences. This will give him a good idea of how sentence construction works and help him construct strong, coherent sentences. Ask your child simple things like, "do you want an orange?" and teach him to respond in a full sentence. This practice will act as a strong foundation for the future, as he will be able to articulate his thoughts better.
5. Read Him Books
Reading to your toddler every night is a great way to introduce him to different words. Read him a simple book with pictures and ask him questions related to the story. You can also try pointing at images in the book and ask him to identify them. This can help improve his vocabulary and teach him to give accurate responses to the questions asked.
6. Join the Dots
Draw a dotted outline of the different letters of the alphabet. Now, ask your toddler to join these dots and identify the letter. This will enhance his motor skills and teach him to write better. You can also give him crayons or colour pencils to make the activity exciting for him.
7. Give Him Toys and Puppets
Give your toddler toys or puppets and encourage him to have conversations with them. Kids are creative and imaginative - once you show them the way, they will take over. You can also use puppets to have simple conversations with your child. Put on a puppet show to make playtime more enjoyable.
8. Match the Alphabet
Draw the letters of the alphabet on cardboard and hand it to your child. Next, give him pictures of objects and ask him to identify them. Then, ask him to match the picture with the starting letter of the object. This way, he will use phonetics to match the letters to the object, thus building his ability to spell correctly.
9. Set an Obstacle Course
If your toddler is over two years of age, you can create a simple obstacle course around the house. Give your child one instruction at a time so that he doesn't get confused. Give him some time to complete the activity. You can also write out instructions on paper and place them around the house.
For example, if you want him to sit in a box, place a chit on the box that says, "sit inside the box." You can then instruct him further and wait for him to follow through. Once he is in tune with the activity, you can try giving him more than just one instruction at a time and challenge him to complete it within a period of time.
10. Have Intelligent Conversations With Him
Even though your child may not be able to immediately respond to you, he will be listening keenly. Ask him for his opinions, thoughts, likes, and dislikes. Listen to him when he responds, and repeat what he said using coherent, grammatically correct sentences. This can help him express himself better and improve his articulation.
11. Stress on the Details
Whenever you are having a conversation with your child, encourage him to speak to you in vivid detail. Point out an object on the street (say, a car) and ask him what it is. When he says 'car', add more details to it ("It's a car. A blue and black, long car."). This will build your child's vocabulary and develop his observation skills.
Your child will mimic you and learn from you, so it is important that you practice good grammar and speak as clearly as possible to help him pick up on words. Introduce new words to him on a regular basis and explain what they mean. Language development can help your toddler prepare for a successful future as he will be able to communicate better and express himself in a clear manner.
In case you notice delayed speech and poor language skills after the age of three despite having performed these activities, consult your doctor to check for any underlying causes of hearing impairment or any other disability.

Doxinate Oral During Pregnancy
All of us fall sick from time to time and keep taking pills to feel better. But if you are pregnant, you will have to give up this habit of popping pills. Taking certain medicines during pregnancy can have side effects on your body because of your weak immune system and hormonal imbalance. For instance, taking medicines for constipation can provide temporary relief, but sometimes it can lead to other issues like bloating. As morning sickness and nausea are a common symptom of pregnancy, you might be suggested doxinate medicine for the same. But should you take this medicine? Find out!
What Is Doxinate?
Doxinate is an oral medication that is available in the form of tablets and capsules. It is used to treat constipation. More commonly known as ‘Docusate Sodium’, this stool softener provides relief from constipation and even prevents it. Hence, recently, there has been an increase in the use of doxinate during pregnancy. In pregnancy, as the immune system of a woman becomes weak, it can lead to the manifestation of issues like constipation on a regular basis. Taking Doxinate oral can provide relief from the same.
Doxinate also helps combat morning sickness, heartburn, and acidity. This is one of the most versatile medicines prescribed to women at any stage of their pregnancies.
Is Doxinate Safe for Pregnant Women?
As per doctors, Doxinate is safe to use during pregnancy. According to the American system of grading drugs, it falls in the category A pregnancy drug, which means it has little to no side effects. Hence, it should not cause any significant damage to you or your baby. However, it is suggested that you take this drug only when it suggested by your doctor. Furthermore, if you feel any uneasiness after taking this drug, stop using it. And, consult your health care physician for the same. Also, its over-the-counter use is not recommended.
When Should You Start and Stop Taking Doxinate During Pregnancy?
Doxinate is usually prescribed to combat or ease the symptoms of morning sickness. Morning sickness can manifest within the second week of pregnancy and continue till the 12th week. However, no two pregnancies are alike; many women may have morning sickness from the 6th week. And how long should you continue taking this medicine will depend on your condition. If you are taking this drug, discuss with your doctor on how and when you can stop it, and if you can do without it.
What Is the Pregnancy Category of Medicines?
Pregnancy category is the ranking of medicines in the order of their safety during pregnancy. This helps a pregnant woman understand which medicines are safe to consume during pregnancy and which are not. The medicines are categorised based on the effect they have on the health of the developing baby and the health of the mother. Doxinate is considered a safe drug during pregnancy.
Side Effects of Taking Doxinate
Although Doxinate has been classified as a safe drug, it has its own side effects. These side effects are usually mentioned on the packaging of the medicine and may interfere with your daily activities. Some of the side effects include:
Drowsiness
Dizziness
A headache
Diarrhoea
Stomach pain
Some side effects can be caused due to pre-existing conditions like:
Asthma
Glaucoma
Bronchitis
Any impairment of the airways
Consult your physician if you experience any of the side effects or if there is some discomfort during the time you take tablets. Before taking the medicines, please consult a doctor and discuss all pre-existing conditions if you have so that the doctor can give you an informed opinion.
What If You Don’t Treat Morning Sickness?
Morning sickness can be an extremely uncomfortable condition to manage during pregnancy. It can be difficult to deal with morning sickness without taking medication and rest. If left untreated, morning sickness can result in:
Extreme dehydration
Keep you from digesting your food
Constantly keep you nauseous
Decrease your food levels by keeping your appetite lower than it should be
Vertigo and dizziness
Doxinate can help manage this while also fighting constipation in the later stages of pregnancy.
It is estimated that over 70% of women have the problem of constipation and morning sickness during pregnancy, and 5 out of 10 women find morning sickness unbearable and take days off work to recuperate from it. Using medication can help treat morning sickness and constipation to an extent. However, you should take medicines only if they are prescribed by your doctor. Do not self-medicate and do not share your medicines with anyone else unless they are on the same medication as you.
In the later stages of pregnancy, Doxinate can help combat constipation and heartburn. But it is highly recommended that you understand the need for and usage of this medicine by talking to your health care provider before taking it.

Understanding Your Fertile Window
If you and your spouse are planning to get pregnant, then one thing that you need to be aware of is your fertile window. A lot of couples struggle in conceiving simply because they are not aware of their best days to conceive. The human body is made in such a way, that it has certain days each month when the body prepares itself for pregnancy. Knowing these days can pave the way to a long-awaited pregnancy for you and your spouse.
What Is a Fertile Window?
When a woman is ovulating, her ovaries release an egg into the fallopian tube. The egg stays in the fallopian tube for 24 hours before making its way to the uterus. In the absence of sperm, the egg, along with the uterine lining that was prepared for pregnancy, disintegrates and comes out in the form of a menstrual period. However, in the presence of sperm, the egg gets fertilized to become a zygote, which then attaches itself to the uterine wall. This zygote becomes an embryo, which then later evolves into a foetus. A lot of people misunderstand how ovulation works. They assume that there’s only one day in the month that a woman can get pregnant because the egg survives only for a day. However, here’s a fact - sperms can live in the uterus for over five to six days. This is why having intercourse during the five to seven days before ovulation increases the chances of getting pregnant.
How to Calculate Your Fertile Window
Keep track of your cycle for about five months. You need to know how many days are there in your cycle. You can even download a period app, as this will make the calculations for you. You can also download a fertile window calculator app.
The most common way to determine your fertile window is by choosing one of your shortest cycles. Let’s say it is 27 days. You then have to subtract 18 from it. The answer you have now is 9. Then choose your longest cycle. Let’s say it is 30 days. You need to subtract 11 from this. Here, then answer is 19. Your fertile window is most likely to be from the 9th to 19th day of your cycle.
Another way of measuring your cycle is by jotting down your basal body temperature, which is the body temperature first thing in the morning after you get out of bed. The average temperature ranges from 96 to 98 degrees Fahrenheit. During your fertile window, your body temperature rises by over four to eight-tenths of a degree. This is another indication that you have ovulated.
Yet another way to identify your fertile window is by keeping a tab on your cervical mucus. After menstruation, the discharge is dry. Shortly before ovulation, it gets sticky. During ovulation, the mucus is semi-transparent, wet, and stretchy.
How Does a Fertility Chart Help?
A fertility chart can help boost your chances of getting pregnant by keeping a tab on your fertility window and knowing when your body is best prepared for pregnancy. No one knows your body better and tracking down all the changes in your body with a fertility chart will help you know your fertility window better.
For couples who are trying to conceive, the fertility window is like a pregnancy calendar. When you try to get pregnant, every month counts. Don’t miss yet another month - the fertility window might be just what you need to finally have your baby.

Taking Care of a Baby Is a Challenging Task, It's Complicated but Interesting
He is my first baby, so it seems very challenging to me. He is very sharp and naughty which is totally unexpected at this age as he is 6 months old now. All I can say it's a nice experience As time goes on his habits are changing. He is becoming more naughty. He starts playing when ever he wants, what ever the time it may be. If I scold him, he laughs. He plays at night hours. When I have work, he wakes up as early as possible. Its winter time but he doesn't want to wear a cap and warm clothes?. As he is 6months old now, it's a starting point for solid food, but he does not eat that food easily and cries a lot and plays pranks and sometimes blows all the food on my face?. He wants a new toy after every 10mins. After every 10mins he throws the toy even if it is very new for him. And even when daipering he won't get clam either he will turn or start playing and cycling with his legs. He gets bored with in a little span of time. He wants someone to carry him and show new place and new things. He gets cold very quickly, and I need to take care of him very much. I don't know why babies get very attached with their fathers as the entire day they are with mothers, and we are the ones who fulfil their basic needs like loving, caring, feeding, and moms do the playing and at last in the evening when the father comes back they change parties?. However, the baby is the love of a mother and for her baby is endless. That's called mother's love and I love my son so much??. I can say that nothing is easy neither giving birth nor baby caring. Giving birth to a baby itself is a very big blessing from God as everyone won't get such opportunities. Its a suggestion from my side to every mom, please take of your babies as a blessing, not a burden.
