Top 10 Foods to Improve Female Egg Quality
Healthy eggs in a woman’s ovaries determine the regularity of her menstrual cycle, fertility in the future, and her ability to conceive. How does a woman ensure that her eggs are healthy? There is a wide variety of factors that influence the quality and health of the eggs produced. Simple lifestyle changes, planned nutrition and a healthy diet could improve the quality of the eggs and also increase the chances of getting pregnant. Several factors determine the impact of the ovaries and eggs produced. Healthy fertility is based on environmental factors, hormones, stress, healthy menstrual cycle, circulation, and diet.
Why Is Egg Quality Important?
A cornerstone of healthy fertility, the health of your eggs affects your chances of fertilisation or implantation and also determines your chances of getting pregnant. Egg cells are believed to not regenerate, though women produce eggs throughout their reproductive years. It was earlier believed that a woman is born with all of her eggs and the body does not produce more. However, recent research has proved that the stem cells in ovaries are capable of producing more eggs during a woman’s reproductive years; age does have an impact on the quality of eggs. The ovaries house the eggs; as you grow older, the ovaries are unable to provide a viable and optimal housing scenario for the eggs to sustain themselves. It takes a 90-day cycle for an egg to prepare for ovulation. Before it reaches full maturation, it is affected by factors related to health and other factors.
Fertility Diet to Improve Egg Quality in Ovaries
Trying to conceive? Sticking to a healthy and balanced diet will improve your fertility. Here is a list of some tasty foods that will boost the health of your ovaries and eggs.
1. Avocados
A superfood, the high fat content in avocados helps in improving egg health. Avocados are high in monosaturated fats ( a good fat needed by the body) which help in maintaining good reproductive health. They can be used in sandwiches, salads or even made into a dip or a spread.
2. Beans and lentils
The lack of iron in your body can lead to problems with ovulation. Beans and lentils are a rich source of iron and other vitamins and minerals vital for fertility. It is important to include one portion of beans and lentils in your diet every day. Include lentils in your dal, rice dishes, salads or even stews and casseroles.
3. Nuts and dry fruits
Dried fruits and nuts are a great source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. Brazil nuts especially are high in selenium, a mineral that abates chromosomal damage in eggs. Selenium is an antioxidant that keeps the free radicals at bay and allows better egg production. Top your salad with some brazil nuts or simply have a handful for your breakfast or as a snack.
4. Sesame seeds
These seeds are high in zinc and help with the production of hormones responsible for optimum egg health. Sesame seeds are rich in monosaturated fats. Help yourself to some seeds from a jar of mixed seeds and nuts. Hummus contains tahini (sesame seed paste), so including hummus in your diet is a great way to boost egg health. Sesame seeds can be also be added to cereals and salads if you do not want to eat them as is.
5. Berries
Berries have strong antioxidant properties that protect eggs from free radicals and offer protection against a number of conditions. They can be had on their own or whipped into a smoothie or fruit salad. It is advised to eat at least three portions of berries every week.
6. Green leafy vegetables
Spinach, kale, and other leafy vegetables are high in folate, iron, manganese, calcium, and Vitamin A. Include at least two portions of green vegetables in your diet every day. Add them to your salad, curries or even make smoothies out of them to fulfill your daily requirement.
7. Ginger
Another superfood, ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that increase blood circulation and promote healthy digestion. This helps to alleviate any discomfort in the reproductive system, regularise healthy cycles and reduce inflammation of the reproductive organs. One of the best ways to include ginger in your diet is to drink some ginger-infused tea. An important ingredient in Asian food, ginger can be added to your salads or curries as well.
8. Maca root
A root which is a wondrous herb contains 31 different minerals and 60 phytonutrients. Used widely by tribes in the Andes, it is believed to increase sperm and egg health. It stabilizes the hormonal imbalance and also increases libido. The product can be consumed in either powder or capsule form. Maca root powder can be added to smoothies or even used to make chocolate truffles.
9. Cinnamon
Another super spice, cinnamon is known to improve the ovary function and encourage proper egg production by stimulating insulin resistance. Women diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) are advised to add cinnamon to their diet. A quarter teaspoon of cinnamon consumed on an everyday basis either in curries, cereals or even raw could do wonders for your reproductive health. Try topping your toast with some cinnamon powder for a tasty breakfast.
10. Water
Not technically a food, but water is an essential ingredient for egg health as well. Aim at drinking 8 glasses of water a day. Stick to purified water and avoid drinking water from plastic bottles. Chemicals from the plastic bottles could have a negative impact on the health of the eggs produced.
Other Ways to Improve Female Egg Health for Pregnancy
You might be concerned about the quality of eggs produced in your body, especially if you have crossed the age of 35. There is a substantial lot that you can do to improve the quality of eggs - from vitamin supplements to herbal concoctions and lifestyle changes, there are several prescribed ways to improve reproductive health. Simple changes to your lifestyle could have a tremendous impact on yourability to get pregnant. It is the health of the ovaries and the quality of the eggs produced that determine the viability of a woman to get pregnant. Here is how you can improve egg quality in order to get pregnant:
1. Stay away from caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes
Cigarettes have never been great for health; they accelerate the loss of egg in ovaries. Chemicals in cigarettes mutate the DNA in the egg, making it useless for conception. Alcohol lowers your inhibitions and does not increase your chances of getting pregnant. In addition to lowering your sex drive, it affects the menstrual cycle and the quality of your eggs.
2. Manage stress
Stress induces the production of hormones like cortisol and prolactin that can hamper ovulation and egg production. Try to stress less and focus your energy on positive thoughts and activities like swimming, walking, dancing and yoga. Make a change to your lifestyle to reduce any stress that you might have.
3. Maintain a healthy diet
A natural remedy for good egg health in females is a diet loaded with leafy vegetables, fish, nuts and fresh fruits to help them stay healthy and boost fertility. Stay away from fried food, processed food or meat and excess salt and sugar.
4. Achieve a healthy and normal Body Mass Index (BMI)
Obesity has found to hinder the reproductive process and increase oxidative stress. Excess fat in the body could lead to fertility issues as it alters the hormonal balance and disrupts ovulation. A woman should ideally have a Body Mass Index between 18.5- 24.9. For, e.g., a woman who is 5 feet 6 inches tall must weigh somewhere between 52 kg – 70 kg. Try to maintain a healthy weight by eating the right food and exercising.
5. Maintain healthy blood circulation
A healthy circulation of blood to the reproductive organs is needed for the ovaries to function well; oxygen-rich blood aids in the healthy production of eggs. Dehydration could decrease blood flow, so drink sufficient water. Yoga is a very good exercise to increase blood circulation - the lotus pose, child pose, reclining hero and seated forward bend are some kind of exercises in yoga that boost fertility.
6. Take supplements
It is advisable to take vitamin supplements to boost fertility. Women who are trying to get pregnant are advised to take folic acid supplements before they get pregnant and even after. Apart from this, there are several other supplements that are recommended. It is advisable to visit your gynaecologist to get an idea of the supplements that are best suited for you. Coenzyme Q10 is an oft-recommended supplement that acts as an antioxidant.
7. Fertility massage
An abdominal massage is at type of one of the best therapy that increases the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, thus increasing the flow of freshly oxygenated blood and removing old, stagnant blood. Find a therapist who specialises in fertility massages and get yourself a massage starting the day after the end of your period, and continue it through the month. It is recommended that you get at least four massages a week.
8. Freeze your eggs
Some women may want to put their career first and have children later. However, having children at a later date can be difficult later in life. Hence, if you have plans to delay your conception, the best way to ensure that your fertility is intact is to freeze your eggs. There is no doubt that age does catch up on fertility and has adverse effects to one’s ability to conceive, but frozen eggs defy the biological clock and cryopreserved eggs boost your chances of getting pregnant in the future.
9. Acupuncture
This is an ancient technique that has benefitted the Chinese for thousands of years. Once dismissed as pseudo-science, it has begun to gain acceptance in western medicine. Its benefits in helping to improve egg quality are well-known, and patients who are undergoing IVF often go for acupuncture sessions. It is known to reduce stress, thereby stimulating the healthy production of eggs.
10. Eat a Bigger Breakfast
This one in particular is for women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) – a study suggests that eating a chunk of your daily calorie intake during breakfast can help reduce testosterone and insulin levels, keeping your condition in check. High levels of insulin and testosterone are known to be a hindrance for women with PCOS, especially in the case of fertility. So, make sure you include a whole bunch of nutrients in your breakfast. Eat complex carbohydrates like whole wheat, ragi, oats, etc., and add in a lot of good fats and protein to your meal. That will help control your insulin levels, keep you full for longer, and boost fertility.
Women need to have a healthy reproductive system to ensure that they can get pregnant without any problems. Fertility treatments in the recent past have given hope to several women who had lost all chances of getting pregnant; it is important that a woman looks after the health of her eggs and her ovaries during her reproductive years. A woman has better chances of conceiving before the age of 35. It is recommended that women follow the tips given to improve the quality of eggs and increase fertility if they want to adopt motherhood.

10 Helpful Tips for Parents to Handle Naughty Kids
As parents, your tolerance level will be tested if you have a ‘naughty’ child. If you have a child who runs around and screams or cries or shouts at the top of his lungs if his demands are not fulfilled, without a doubt you will lose your cool and scold him. You will also wonder what did you do wrong that resulted in such behaviour of your child? But there is no need to worry or lose patience. Once you understand where this naughty behaviour comes from and stop blaming yourself, you can address the issue in a far more constructive and compassionate manner. Let’s look at how you can deal with your naughty child.
Common Causes of Naughty Behaviour in a Child
Mentioned below are a few causes of naughty behaviour in a child:
1. Developing Brains
In our frustration, we often forget that young children’s brains are still developing. Skills like resisting temptation develop only after a child turns 3 or 4 years. So if your child doesn’t listen to your warning and ends up eating ice cream before dinner, it may be because the area of his brain which is involved with self-control isn’t fully developed yet. Patience is required from your side.
2. Physical Effects
Hunger, thirst, sleep deprivation or sickness can affect even us adults in many ways and make us irritable. For kids, these effects are double-fold. So if they are tired or hungry or have too much sugar, they tend to be more active and misbehave as a consequence.
3. Too Much, Too Fast
It is vital to keep your child's body and mind active, but this has to be balanced with proper rest, too. Sometimes when your kid feels stressed due to the over-stimulation of socialising and physical activity, his behaviour may change. He may throw tantrums or be hyperactive. When kids have a good balance of activity and rest in their lives, this behaviour will lessen.
4. Need for Independence
Although we want our kids to be independent, it is easy to get annoyed when they actually do strive to do things alone. So when your toddler is stubborn about choosing his own outfit and ends up going to school wearing something outlandish, don’t lose patience. Understand that no matter how silly or wrong the decision seems, he is just learning to be independent.
5. Overwhelming Emotions
Powerful emotions like fear, sadness, or frustration can take a toll on children, as they are not used to them and don't have developed mechanisms for coping with such emotions at a young age. So they will try to express themselves through shouting, crying, or being difficult. It is important that you support them during this time and help them deal with their emotions. Do not shout at them, talk in a gentle tone.
6. The Need to Burn Off Their Energy
Kids often have a lot of energy they need to burn off. They constantly need physical activity like riding bikes, running or playing outside. So if your child is fidgeting and is active at a time when he is supposed to be doing sleeping or taking a nap, this is a sign that he needs to burn off some energy.
7. Inconsistency
Be consistent when setting rules and expectations for your child. He will respond and behave better when he knows what is expected of him. If you are inconsistent with your own rules, your kid will also get frustrated and act naughtily.
8. Your Mood
Human beings generally are affected by the moods of people around them. So, if you display negative or angry behaviour towards your child, he may mirror the same behaviour. If you are calm and patient around them, he will display the same around you.
9. Love for Play
If your kid plays pranks like hiding your shoes before you go out or hiding the car keys, it is because that he has an inherent love for playing, especially with parents. It is a sign that he wants to spend time with you.
10. Different Characteristics
Everyone has different qualities, strengths, and weaknesses. Some people are motivated and focused while others are compassionate. It is the same with kids, and that might influence their behaviour. It is important to know their strengths when dealing with their naughty behaviour.
How a Child's Naughtiness Affects Parents
Parents may find it incredibly frustrating to manage a child’s naughty behaviour. But sometimes it is the behaviour of the parents themselves that bring about a child’s naughty behaviour. A child’s naughtiness can make a parent feel:
Annoyed
Helpless
Worn out
Frightened
Sympathetic
How to Deal with a Naughty Child
There are a few simple guidelines for you to help you handle your naughty child. Here are a few tips for handling naughty kids:
1. Fix Limits
Don’t accept everything that your child says. Set due limits and don’t put the responsibility of deciding what he needs and doesn’t need entirely on him. Be firm but gentle if he throws tantrums, then tell him that he won’t just get what he wants with such behaviour.
2. Be Consistent
Don’t treat your children differently every day. If one day you are firm with your kid not allowing him to watch TV for long and the next day you let him watch all he wants just because you are busy and want him to keep quiet, it sends out a very mixed message to your child. Be consistent in setting and following rules.
3. Give Him Some Independence
Don’t dictate every last thing what your child should do. Give him little independence with regards to choosing his own clothes or deciding how he would like to drink milk.
4. Reduce Screen Time
Watching cartoons constantly without any limitation will increase agitation in a kid, making him over-excited and prone to naughty behaviour. So set limits on how long your kid can watch TV or play games on the computer.
5. Define Consequences
Enlighten your child about the consequences of his naughty behaviour. He needs to know that he will get into trouble if he displays throws tantrums. Tell him that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable.
6. Stand Strong in the Face of a Tantrum
If your child has been crying continuously for long, you may be tempted to give in to his demands feeling pity towards him. But don't fulfil his demands as the time as it will only spoil him. He will think that by crying or shouting he can get anything, so learn to ignore his cries. He will stop crying on his own.
7. Pay Attention
Sometimes children display naughty behaviour because they want your attention or feel that you are not paying enough attention to them. Learn to listen to your child calmly, ask him why he is acting that way and what can you do to make it stop. Your child will respond well to your considerate behaviour.
8. Don’t Scream
Don’t lose your temper and shout back at your child, this is counter-productive as it will make him stop his tantrum for the time being, but he will also learn to mimic you in the future.
9. Don’t Take Out Your Anger on Your Child
When you are in a bad mood, and your child is not behaving how you want him to behave, don’t take out your negative emotions on him. If you shout at your child when he is not at fault, he will get angry at you and may misbehave. Stay calm and handle the situation with patience. Such behaviour will be noted by your child and he will learn to stay calm in moments of anger by merely observing you.
10. Set a Regular Routine
When your child has holidays from school, set a regular timetable for him. That will set laws to live by, and your child won't feel compelled to misbehave as he will have a solid routine to follow. Set a fixed sleeping and eating routine.
Your own behaviour will be a mirror to your child’s behaviour, so make sure your behaviour is ideal for him to follow. Do not be too strict on him as this will make him naughty and nervous as he will not understand your feelings and your expectations of him. Being clear and transparent with your child will go a long way in making sure that naughtiness is minimised. Cherish, love and respect your children and they will respond in kind.

Shoelaces and Your 22 Months Old - Refined Grasp
What's the easiest way to teach a child to tie shoes? While the task can be tricky, there are tips to make it much simpler. With these quick hints, you won't only enjoy lace-tying activities, but will also accomplish your mission of teaching your child how to tie shoes easily.
Teaching children to tie their own shoelaces might seem like a Herculean affair. Since the task requires dexterity and patience, you might notice slow progress in your child. However, the right tips and guidelines will make your little one practice the art of tying laces without much help. Although kids are not likely to achieve shoe-tying perfection till they’re at least five years old, it's recommended that you start early with yours. As this activity will enhance her fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, you’ll find it aiding other development milestones too!
Tips on How to Teach a Child to Tie Shoes
1. Start with Soft Laces
For starters, it’s advised that you introduce long and flat shoelaces to your child. With short and round laces, she might find it difficult to manipulate and manoeuvre the loops. If necessary, use a marker to colour the laces so that she’s able to distinguish between the two sides of the lace.
2. Form the Right Loop
Begin by teaching her how to form a loop with fingers. Point out how much space is required for the loop. Then, explain double knotting and how to do it. Go slow when teaching her. It’s no easy task for a toddler to tie shoelaces!
3. Help Her Copy You
When teaching a toddler to tie shoes, make her sit right beside you so that she can grasp all the actions you do closely. This way, she won’t get too confused between right and left loops and will be able to do what you’re doing. After she’s observed you a few times, make her follow your instructions in small parts.
4. Long Lace, Short Lace
Once she gets comfortable handling longer laces, work on the shorter ones as most kids’ shoes use small-sized laces. One of the best ways to teach a child to tie shoes with shorter laces is by lacing from the top second hole. This way, she’ll get extra length to work with. Form an ‘X’ with the two laces, after which you can show her the right way of forming the base of the lace bow.
4. Applaud and Praise
Remember, tying shoelaces properly is an intricate task for a child who’s still developing fine motor skills. Celebrate every little step accomplished by your munchkin. Appreciate her efforts when she starts crossing and pulling the shoelaces correctly. Reward her with some fun treats. Doing this will sustain her interest in learning to fasten shoelaces.
Keep these pointers in mind and practice tying shoelaces often with your child. If you don’t want to work on shoes all the time, you can practice tying knots on a practice board, or hold one end of the laces and have her work on the other. Soon, your child will learn how to tie her own shoelaces and will soon be able to bid adieu to Velcro shoes! Read more
