Taking Care of Your Child When You Have Another One on the Way
Emotions and attachments are what makes humans bond.
I delivered a baby girl last month. We planned our second baby for our 5 year old son, who assumed on his own that he will soon have a sister. His excitement for a sibling was so sparkling that we both got through the nine months easily.
My son helped me a lot in this. How children grow up and be so adjusting, I wonder. Along with this, he got to know from one of his friends that to get a baby, the mother has to go to the hospital for a couple of days and undergo an operation. He got scared and at once said that he did not desire a sibling any longer - mom was more important to him. We made him understand and pacified him with examples around us, but he was so fearful that he started puking on the day of delivery! These kids love you so much, that nothing is above their unbounded love for you.
He wanted a sister, and God gifted him the same. He was on cloud 9 after having her in his lap. I thanked God for listening to my little one's prayers and for completing my family.
Now, here's the twist - all the excitement, happiness and love for his sister starting dimming as he had to now share his parents with her. He got upset seeing me feed the baby the entire day, because I was paying less attention to him. Suddenly in a day even our behaviour changed towards him - we started to expect that he would understand. He had this jealous feeling for a week and became cranky. He made statements like, "mummy doesn't love my anymore". This was the time we needed to balance the situation.
We told him that she was his baby, and no matter what he does, we will only love him. We prioritsed many things for him, like asking him what clothes he would like to wear, getting him a toy first, and serving him his favourite food. Now my daughter is almost one month old, and he has accepted her.
Friends, when my near and dear ones got to know about my second pregnancy, all of them suggested to take care of the elder kids' emotional needs first. If not treated well in time, it can harm the child a lot. He can start feeling lonely and can start hating the other kid. It's very natural, but managing them well can result in them being loving siblings.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Letter To His Granddaughters Is a Must Read For Every Woman
When you look back to your childhood, which are your happiest memories? Hidden somewhere in the treasure trove of your mind is the time you spent with your grandpa, eating candyfloss and riding on his back. No one dared to scold you when he was around; you were his little princess and he was fiercely protective toward you. To seal his feelings forever, Dada Amitabh Bachchan decided to put them down in a letter to his two granddaughters. The result is a deeply emotional and heartfelt look into the mind of a grandparent. It is a journey into the kind of love that only grandparents are capable of bestowing on the little ones in their household.
Amitabh Bachchan is blessed with two beautiful granddaughters – Navya Naveli, his daughter Shweta Nanda’s young girl, and Aaradhya, his son Abhishek’s little cutie pie. While Navya is fast growing up into a responsible adult, Aaradhya is still too little to understand just how deeply her dadajee feels about her. Aaradhya is very much her mom’s daughter, and goes along with her everywhere, happily working on her homework assignments even on the sets! As Amitabh watches the two girls grow up, he worries about their safety, happiness and future. Will they make the right decisions in their lives? Will they be sheltered in love and protection, even after he’s gone? Most importantly, perhaps, will they able to rise above the prejudices and misconceptions our society often has about women?
Read the complete letter by Amitabh Bachchan here. Even though he has addressed it to his two grandchildren, his words ring true for every woman out there.
My very dearest Navya and Aaradhya,
You both carry a very valuable legacy on your tender shoulders – Aaradhya, the legacy of your pardadaji, Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and Navya, the legacy of your pardadaji, Shri H P Nanda… Both your pardadajis gave your present surnames celebrated fame, dignity and recognition. Both of you may be a Nanda or a Bachchan, but you are also girls…women. And because you are women people will force their thinking, their boundaries on you. They will tell you how to dress, how to behave, who you can meet and where you can go.
Don’t live in the shadows of people’s judgment. Make your own choices in the light of your own wisdom.
Don’t let anyone make you believe that the length of your skirt is a measure of your character.
Don’t let anyone’s opinion of who you should be friends with, dictate who you will be friends with.
Don’t get married for any other reason other than you want to get married.
People will talk. They shall say some terrible things. But that doesn’t mean you have to listen to everyone. Never ever worry about – log kya kahenge. At the end of the day, you are the only one who will face the consequences of your actions, so don’t let other people make your decisions for you.

Navya – the privilege your name, your surname offers you, will not protect you from the difficulties you will face because you’re a woman.
Aaradhya – by the time you see and understand this, I may well not be around. But I think what I am saying today shall still be relevant.
This may be a difficult, difficult world to be a woman. But I believe that it is women like you that will change that. It may not be easy, setting your own boundaries, making your own choices, rising above people’s judgment. But YOU! You can set an example for women everywhere.
[caption id="attachment_180120" align="aligncenter" width="529"] Source: https://twitter.com/SrBachchan[/caption]
Do this and you would have done more than I have ever done, and it will be my honour to be known not as Amitabh Bachchan, but as your grandfather!
With all my love,
Your dadaji…your nana.
That was amazing, Big B! We must say Navya and Aradhya are really lucky to have a grandfather like Amitabh Bachchan – one who adores them so much but also helps them understand the realities of the world. There are some lessons in life than only dadas and nanas can teach and these are often the important lessons of independence, decision making and learning to be happy.
So moms out there, encourage your children to spend time with their grandparents. This is one of the most beautiful relationships they will ever have the privilege of experiencing and also one whose memories will keep them strong long after life has run its course. Read more

Get the Right Balance of Good and Bad Fats in your Baby’s Diet
Fat is an important energy-producing nutrient in the body. Every baby needs to consume fats as they stimulate growth but the knowledge of good and bad fats is essential for a balanced and healthy diet.
Fats are nutrients present in food which are required by the body to build nerves, hormones and also provide energy. However, if fats are not used up as energy, they get stored in the body inside the fat cells for use in the future.
Even though they give a rich texture and flavor to food, they are high in calories and can cause health problems if consumed in excess. This is why parents must be aware of the difference between the good fats and bad fats.
What are Good Fats?
Good fats are unsaturated fats that may be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. Our body cannot make polyunsaturated fats, so we need to derive them from food. Good fats produce good cholesterol and reduce bad cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart diseases. Good fats are available in the following foods:
Olive
Avocado
Leafy vegetables
Soy food,Nuts and seeds
Homemade clarified butter (ghee)
Paneer or cottage cheese
Legumes
Breast milk for babies
Good fat helps better development of the brain and eyes in a baby and strengthens their immune system.
What are Bad Fats?
Bad fats are saturated and are known to produce bad cholesterol and increase the risk of heart diseases.
Bad fats can be found in various foods:
Animal meat
Palm oil in fried food like chips and biscuits
Butter
Cakes
Chocolate energy bars
Tips for a Balanced Diet
Breast milk provides babies with the right amount of unsaturated fats.
For better growth, babies should be given full fat food when they are introduced to solids. Avoid skim milk and dairy products .
If the baby is formula fed, consult the doctor to make sure he gets all the good fat in the right proportion.
Feed your child a variety of foods to include a wide range of fats.
Once babies are weaned off breast milk, they should be given vegetable oils in their diet for fatty acids.
Review the child’s daily diet. How much of good and bad fat he consumes daily should be kept track of. The consumption of saturated fats should be very limited.
Carefully read the nutrition content panel mentioned on packaged food before buying
Try to avoid giving any food with bad fats to the baby like butter, meat, etc.
When buying packaged food, choose ones that have a tick mark by the heart foundation implying that they have low trans-fat content.
Try to have a lot of variations in the diet to make it healthier.
Restrict the use of processed food for your baby and make them consume fresh and healthy food containing unsaturated fats
Eating food like ice creams and chocolates should be limited to special occasions.
The word ‘fat’ has a negative connotation, but it helps to know the truth behind different kinds of fats. Include more of the good variety and try to cut down on the bad kind to keep your family fit and healthy! Read more

Things a New Mom Should Know About Breastfeeding
The joy of becoming a mother cannot be explained. The feeling of being a new mommy is hard to put into words. When you get to hold your baby and you are asked to feed her for the first time, it's an amazing feeling because that tiny little baby is going to have your milk as her first food.
Breast milk has that magic which no medication has for your baby. It helps in the brain development of the baby. Breastfeeding a baby can strengthen her immune system and protect her from various infections and allergies. Breastfeeding a baby can also make her smarter.
You should breastfeed your baby for the first six months of her life and even after that. This way, your baby will get all the nutrients required for her development. In the first 6 months, her only source of nutrition will be breastmilk. So as a mother, you should try to increase breast milk production by having some nutritional foods like fruits, jeera, vegetables, grains, garlic, etc. Plus you need to avoid certain foods or eat them in limited amounts as these foods can make your baby gassy and lead to colic. The foods you should avoid include beans, dairy products, spicy foods, etc.
I am a mother of a ten-and-a-half-month-old girl and I still breastfeed her. She takes my milk mostly at night and sometimes twice a day. I tend to avoid to breastfeed her during the day so that she learns to eat solids properly. I will suggest the same to all the mothers that after starting solid foods make sure to breastfeed your babies less during the day.
Being a new mother, you will have restless nights as you will have to wake up in the middle of the night to breastfeed your baby, but you know that breastfeeding is an amazing experience. It can strengthen your bond with your baby. So enjoy this phase and have a good time with your little ones.

A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. But it is really very difficult to say anything without proper examination. It is advisable to get yourself evaluated by a doctor and follow doctors advise properly. You can also book online doctor’s appointment on FirstCry where the doctor can help you and guide you properly.

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
