1. What Are Ponies?
A small horse is called a pony. This shouldn't be confused with the young one of a horse. They are called colt (male) and filly (female).
2. What Do Horses Eat?
Horses are herbivores, which mean they eat plants. Horses enjoy grazing on grasslands and they like eating hay. They also relish apples, beans, peas and other such kinds of fruits and vegetables.
3. In Which Colours Are Horses Available?
Well, horses have different coloured coats and they are also named according to their colours. Following are some widely available colours:
Chestnut – Horses in this colour category have a reddish coat with no black hue.
Pinto – This variety of horse has patches of brown, white, black and other colours or they can multi-coloured patches.
Palomino – Horses in this colour group have a lighter shade of golden.
Dun – Horses in this colour variety have a tan or yellowish coloured coat.

Foal – A baby horse that is younger than a year.
Yearling – A horse between the age of one to two years.
Filly – A female horse, which is less than four years old.
Colt – A male horse, which is less than four years old.
Stallion – A male horse that is more than four years old, which is not gelded.
Mare – A female horse that is more than four years old.
5. What Are the Different Horse Breeds?
Though there are more than 300 kinds of horse breeds, broadly they can be classified into three categories. ‘Cold Bred’ are the kind of horses that are usually bred for heavy work and strength like agriculture. ‘Hot Bred’ horses are famous for speed and thus are mostly bred for racing or sports purposes. ‘Warm Blood’ horses usually result from crossing a 'Cold Bred' and a 'Hot Bred' horse.
6. Are Horses Wild Animals?
Well, horses are not wild animals as they have been domesticated for 5000 years. However, there is a breed known as the Przewalski’s horses, also called the Mongolian wild horse, which are an endangered species that live in the forests of Mongolia and China.
7. How Fast Can Horses Run?
Horses are amazingly fast creatures and they can easily gallop 27 mph or (44 kph). The fastest horses in the world can run as fast as 55 mph (88 kph).
8. How Long Do Horses Live?
Horses have a longer life span and domesticated horses can live up to 25 years on an average.

1. Fruit Smoothie

Adjust the amounts to get the consistency you desire. It is preferable you sweeten the drink with jaggery or honey rather than refined sugar.
2. Uttapam
Uttapam or savoury bread pancakes have been a staple South Indian dish for hundreds of years. To make them, you will need bread, onions, tomatoes, milk, capsicum, potatoes, chilli powder, masala, and salt. Add all the ingredients together and mix to make a thick glutinous batter. Spread some groundnut or rice bran oil in a heated pan, and pour some of the batter over it. Let the batter take a roughly round shape, then let it fry over a low flame until both sides are honey brown in colour. Uttapams can be served with chutney, sambar or ketchup.
3. Beaten Rice Tikki
One of the most commonly used ingredients in Indian cuisine is beaten or flattened rice; it is used to make several dishes such as Poha, Pulau, Dahi Chura and so on. This recipe will make use of any leftover poha at home to create a tasty snack. Grind the leftover poha you have in a blender. Combine it with cooked potatoes, garam masala, ginger, garlic, chillies, onions, and salt. Shape the mixture into flattened disks or tikkis, then fry them in oil over a medium flame until they are brown.
4. Bread Sushi
One of the easiest snacks to make at home is the completely vegetarian sushi roll. It is incredibly delicious and will have your kids begging for more. To make it, cut off the crusts from wholegrain bread slices, then flatten the bread under a rolling pin. Layer the upper side of the flattened slice with peanut butter, jam, butter, mustard or any condiment you think your child will enjoy. Finally, roll the bread from one end to another, and cut it in half. Voila! Bread Sushi!
5. Veggie Toast
This dish is an effective way of delivering vegetables to your child’s diet. Pick a selection of vegetables such as brinjal, tomatoes, capsicum, onions, and carrots. Cut them into small pieces and fry them in oil with salt, ginger and garlic. Add bread slices to a separate pan, toasting them until golden brown. Decorate the toast with a helping of the veggies in different ways. Add cheese, chaat masala and other flavors to improve the taste.
6. Bread Rolls
Bread rolls are amazing appetizers your child can take to school. Combine cooked potatoes, green chillies, garam masala, coriander and garlic and fry them together in groundnut oil. After a couple of minutes, take them off the stove and add ginger and pudina leaves. Now soak bread slices in water, squeeze out excess moisture, place the mixture above on the slice and fold the bread so it covers the potato filling. Fry the rolls until they are browned on all sides. This dish can be eaten with ketchup or chutney.
7. Veggie Idli
A wonderful variation on the standard idli, the veggie idli is a sneaky but yummy way of incorporating vegetables into your child’s meals. To prepare the filling, combine vegetables and spices of your choice in oil and saute until they are cooked. Add the veggie filling to your pre-prepared idli batter and cook as per usual. You can serve this dish with sambar and chutney.
8. Semolina Dhokla
Dhoklas are a beloved treat in West India. Making them from suji or semolina makes them even healthier. Combine semolina with curd, turmeric, chilli powder, salt, green chillies, coriander and sugar to make a gooey batter. Boil water in a steamer and place the batter in a dhokla stand, allowing it to steam for about ten minutes. You can fry the dhoklas in mustard oil and curry leaves for a unique taste. Adding veggies and nuts will improve their nutritive quality.
9. Bread Cup Pizza
This is a great recipe to get your kids excited about lunchtime. For this, you need a muffin tray. Cut circles out of bread slices and place them in the tray. Mix a variety of chopped veggies with spices like thyme, salt, mustard and garlic and add them to the bread cups. Pour some grated cheese on top and bake the tray for ten minutes in an oven until the bread is brown-tinged. You can serve them with mayonnaise or tomato sauce.
10. Indian Pasta
This dish sounds complicated, doesn’t it? In fact, it is as easy to make as it is delicious. Cook pasta of your choice in the usual way. To prepare the sauce, combine mustard seeds, black gram, red lentils, onions and coriander leaves and fry in coconut oil until cooked. Then mix tomato puree with salt, garam masala, ginger, garlic, and fenugreek, boil the mixture for a few minutes and combine it with the previous concoction. Toss the pasta in the sauce, add a few drops of lime and serve the dish!

Things I Wish I Knew When I Was Pregnant
Nothing really prepares you for the agonies and pleasures of being a parent. And by that, I mean no amount of books, videos or unsolicited advice can entirely prepare you for parenthood. While there are the obvious things like managing expenses and sleepless nights. I do wish I knew about some of the not so obvious and not often discussed matters of motherhood.
1. The Birth Plan
A birth plan is an outline of your preferences during labour and postnatal care; a concept common in the West. I have read mom blogs of mothers recounting how their birth experiences were in contrast to that documented.
While the concept of a birth plan is quite rare in India, today, women are increasingly choosing to communicate their wishes and goals to their doctors.
Though I did not document my birth plan, I had discussed with my doctor and partner about the possibilities and expectations of natural birth. Hence, I did not know what to expect when my doctor told me that I had to go in for an emergency C-section.
My pregnancy was free from complications until my 32-week scan when I was indicated of a low fluid level. I had not prepared myself for an operation, I did not know what to expect, I had not packed my bag or the baby's bag and I had a million unanswered questions.
2. Bonding With the Baby
When I was expecting, I recall a mother telling me how she held her baby for the first time and the feeling just changed her entire life and she bonded with her little one instantly.
My experience was quite in contrast to that. One, because I had stitches, I could not sit up and hold my daughter until the next day. Second, I did not bond with my daughter at once. It took me a lot of time and patience. I was tired, groggy and in so much pain that I just wanted to be left alone.
Looking back I wish someone would have told me that it was ok. Bonding with your baby can either happen to you instantly or over a period of time, and either of this is OK!
3. Feeding
During the last few months of my pregnancy, I was excited and looking forward to the experience of breastfeeding my baby.
I imagined it to be a cakewalk. My breastfeeding journey was filled with perils: an inverted nipple, a fast let down, cracked and bleeding nipples to name a few.
Experimenting with feeding positions, trying on nipple shields, tears from both ends, and one month later, we were pros at breastfeeding.
4. Blues
Mental health by itself is a taboo in our society, so God forbid a mother complains about her mental health. While I was aware of postpartum blues and depression I was not prepared for what I was to expect.
My postpartum blues hit me as soon as I gave birth. Early unexpected labour coupled with a preterm baby took a toll on my mental health.
I remember waking up with fits of sweat and imagining my baby had turned blue. I would constantly check if she was breathing. I wouldn't be able to close my eyes at night due to the fear that something bad was about to happen.
Luckily I had great support at home. My family made sure that I spoke about my fears and their reassurances helped me cope with this phase.
As the saying goes "Embrace the unexpected"; motherhood and being a parent is filled with unforeseen experiences. My daughter has taught me life lessons in the past 8 months that I haven't been able to gather in all the years before that. But I remind myself that it's ok to fail, it's ok to lose patience and it's ok to parent one day at a time. So, what are some of the things you wish you knew about when you were pregnant?
