A Visit to Bisleri's Iconic Mumbai Plant - My Experience and Key Learnings
Visiting the Bisleri Mumbai plant was an awesome experience as it’s the oldest and the most trusted brand when it comes to mineral water. I have always had immense trust in Bisleri when I had to buy a packed bottle of water for my little one, especially whenever we were travelling. So when I got the chance to visit the Mumbai plant, I was on cloud 9! I could gather so much of information from there which I could pass on to my fellow moms who’ve had so many queries regarding mineral water. I would love to share some of the knowledge I could gather from this fruitful visit.
Bisleri water is checked to ensure the absence of harmful chemicals and microbes by qualified staff in the plant’s lab, before it reaches the consumer. However, the water from domestic purifiers is not tested for such parameters.
It was great to see the water going through a 10-step purification process. Two steps of ozonisation are carried out to disinfect water. The water’s shelf life is increased to last for 6 months. There are 114 quality tests done to monitor and control the presence of micro-organisms and measure the concentration of ozone in water. In addition to all this, Bisleri bottles are fully recyclable.
Some of the experiences were incredible, like watching the making of the bottle using highly modernized equipment. Bisleri bottles are only blown on site to avoid any external contamination. The bottle is made using a preform that is fed into the mould, blown, and stretched to its size at 100 degrees Celsius. Blowing at such a high temperature ensures that any harmful bacteria, if at all present, is killed. Bisleri has also established a unique and highly reliable double ozonisation process. Ozone is at least 50 times more powerful and 3000 times faster than chlorination when it comes to killing bacteria and other microbes. Ozone is added to the water again to sustain the purity & quality of water. There is an RO process which removes unwanted salts from the water; however, this step
also eliminates essential minerals that are good for health. Therefore, a very critical step is taken wherein the right amount of vital minerals such as potassium and magnesium are added, making the water healthy and giving it a sweet taste. Bisleri ensures that even the smallest micron-particles (up to 0.45 microns in size) are removed from the water.
Let me also tell you about some of the benefits of ozonisation:
Strengthens your immune system
Kills bacteria and viruses on contact
Increases the oxygen levels of cells in the human body
Detoxifies the human body
Has anti-ageing properties and increases energy
Reduces acidity
Watching the labelling procedure was also a good experience as this was my first time being on a factory visit. Every bottle has a code printed stating the batch number, date, time, and manufacturing location. Stringent quality control checks are done for each and every batch so that Bisleri’s quality standards are met.
Here Are The 10 Steps of the Quality Process
1. Careful Collection
Collected water from rivers undergoes a quality control check at the source.
2. Ozonisation
Ozonisation is done to kill harmful bacteria.
3. Sand Filter
Unwanted solid particles of up to 30 microns in size are filtered.
4. Carbon Filter
This step helps to get rid of unwanted colour, odour, and harmful pesticides, if any, to ensure that quality standards are met.
5. Reverse Osmosis
Water then goes through Reverse Osmosis, commonly known as RO, a purification technology that removes soluble solids from water. However, the challenge is that while it does remove unwanted particles from the water, it also eliminates minerals in the process.
6. Mineralisation
Magnesium, an essential mineral to maintain bone health and heart health, is added to the water.
7. Micron-Filtration
Micron-filtration is the second last stage of water purification.
8. Re-Ozonisation
Drinking ozonated water is known to increase oxygen levels in the body, thus, helping to improve energy levels and boosting the immune system.
9. Careful Bottling
Bottles go through ozonisation again, to ensure that highest safety standards are met.
10. Final Quality Control
Every batch of bottles is checked so that Bisleri’s quality standards are met.
I was lucky enough to take my son to see this process. He was quite excited. All the mothers that visited the plant along with their kids also had an awesome time;the kids had some fun sessions in the crèche or lounge area where they coloured, watched TV, and were gifted a cute camel soft toy and a puzzle.
I’m quite happy with Bisleri. Now, you too can get the guarantee of purity in every drop with Bisleri Mineral Water original bottled water . Because, har maa janti hai #HarPaaniKiBottleBisleriNahi! I am assured now that Bisleri is the right choice for Veer.

Is Drinking Bottled Water Safe and Beneficial for Your Child’s Health? Find Out!
Water is life, and clean water means health.’ The question that arises here is, are we drinking clean water? With the market flooded with different types of RO purifiers, I am always confused when it comes to choosing the right brand of packaged water for my family. And that’s not all! Being the mother of a growing 5-year-old daughter, I am always scared of making her drink the water available outside while travelling. From the park to the theatre, from grandma’s home to a holiday destination - I prefer carrying an ample amount of filtered water from home with me.
With so many different brands of mineral water available in the market, I always wonder whether they really provide water in its purest form. However, I’d like to thank Bisleri for easing my worries and enlightening me on the quality of the water they provide to their customers.
Recently, I was invited for an educational yet fun-filled trip to the Bisleri plant with my daughter Vihaana. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite an informative trip. I learned how the most natural resource in the world, water, undergoes a series of purification methods, and yet, retains its mineral content.
#HarPaaniKiBottleBisleriNahi - this hashtag justifies the quality of the final product Bisleri provides its buyers. A symbol of goodness, trust and purity, Bisleri has been a household name for decades. It is the most trusted brand of mineral water and it has fulfilled its promise of providing safe, pure, and healthy mineral water to consumers for the last 50 years.
Each drop of water at the plant goes through a rigorous 10-step quality process. Every Bisleri production facility has its own quality testing lab that ensures every Bisleri product is made as per the quality guidelines set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The Central Lab, located at the Bisleri Head Office, Mumbai, ensures that quality standards are maintained across all Bisleri units in the country. In 2018, Bisleri launched the world’s first vertical manufacturing plant for mineral water.
The visit to the Bisleri plant was an eye-opener. It gave us the knowledge of how mineral water is manufactured and purified. Before the approval of any manufacturing unit, all these tests are conducted on the water collected at the source. Ozonisation is then carried out to reduce the microbial load of the ‘raw’ water. Two tests are done on a weekly basis to monitor and control microorganisms in the sand filter outlet. Two tests are also done on a weekly basis in the carbon filter outlet for the same purpose. The iodine value is checked during the 4th test to confirm the efficiency of the activated carbon.
Two tests, the total coliform count and total plant count, are then conducted on a weekly basis to monitor and control microorganisms in RO filter outlet. This is followed by two tests conducted on a weekly basis to monitor the microorganisms in the water. Three visual inspection tests are performed on a daily basis to check the labelling and coding of the date, as well as the condition of the bottle and the cap. All these parameters should meet the standards before they’re dispatched from the plant.
Apart from these tests, seven other tests are conducted on the container every three months as per the BIS Standard. These tests ascertain the strength, capacity, and appearance of the bottle, and also test for any leaching from the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic used for the bottle. Two tests are done on a weekly basis to monitor and control microorganisms in empty containers.
The final product undergoes a series of tests to confirm that the product meets all organoleptic parameters i.e., sensory and chemical elements such as the colour, taste, TDS (total dissolved solids) level, PH level, etc. The tests confirm that all the parameters meet legal requirements such as the amount of calcium and magnesium in the water, the alkalinity of the water, etc. The shelf-life mentioned on each bottle is accurate; the samples are tested periodically to ensure this. The final test measures the concentration of ozone in the final product. It has to be within the recommended level and is done on an hourly basis.
The knowledge I gained during this visit was immense. I was assured after this visit that the best packaged form of mineral water is Bisleri water indeed, and that I can give it to my daughter to drink without any inhibitions. My worry regarding the best way to quench her thirst when we’re not at home is at ease now. Moreover, I would now not hesitate to give her Bisleri water because of its mineral content too.
I’d like to thank Bisleri for erasing my misconceptions about mineral water. Also, I request all readers to consume Bisleri water without a doubt. If you have even the smallest of doubts, do visit the plant and you will be clear of your choice. Remember, the next time you're thirsty, pick up a bottle of Bisleri water. Each bottle of water is tested and checked to meet the highest standards of quality, so you can be assured that you're making the right choice! Thank you Bisleri!

10 Health Problems That Can Ruin Your Child's Summer - Here's How You Can Avoid Them!
Summer is that gorgeous (and tiring!) time of the year when the kids are home on vacation, spend time playing all day, and demand snacks at all kinds of unearthly hours. However, this is also the time when they are at the highest risk of falling ill! What if there are some stubborn ailments that can spoil their summer if you aren't careful?
Don't worry, Mom. Understanding the risks, preventive measures, symptoms and treatment can help you stay one step ahead of whatever is troubling your child. We bring you the 10 most common summer ailments kids are prone to and also tell you how to deal with them.
1. Dehydration & Sunstroke
During the summer holidays, the hours just disappear! The kids are very happy playing in the sun outside, but the continuous exposure can sometimes cause the body temperature to rise abnormally. The water content of the body also falls, and the result is disorientation, nausea and even fainting.
What you should do: Difficult as this will be, try to keep the kids indoors when the sun is at its worst. Keep them hydrated; we have a wide variety of summer coolers for kids to help you out here!
2. Ezcema
This chronic skin disease has the tendency to aggravate during summer, on account of sweat, exposure to sun, and increased secretion of oil. Your child may suffer from a skin rash as a result.
What you should do: Try and keep your child's skin as free of moisture and sweat as possible. A hypoallergenic sunscreen and moisturiser is your best bet. Consult a skincare specialist who will be able to advise you based on your child's exact skin type.
3. Insect Bites
Remember how summer brings with it the haunt of irritating insects? From mosquitoes and bees to wasps and pests, summer is the hotbed for bites of all kinds! This can lead to skin rashes, inflammation, fever and extreme pain.
What you should do: Prevention is really the best option here. Teach your kids to stay away from insect-ridden areas and keep exposed skin areas at a minimum. If they are bitten, follow this detailed guide on combating bites and stings in kids.
4. Conjunctivitis
Like bacteria, viruses are also overactive at this time. There is a fair chance that the virsues causing “pink eye” can reach them through dirty hands. This leads to redness, itching and eye inflammation.
What you should do: Hand-wash! Use these creative ideas to teach your kids to handwash. Also ask them to avoid touching their face or eyes unnecessarily. If they have contracted the problem, eye drops usually help clear it up in some time.
5. Swimmer's Ear
All those long hours in the swimming pool, so much fun, and an ear canal that is infected! If some of the water remains trapped in your child's ear, the moisture can trigger bacterial growth. This leads to itching and severe pain.
What you should do: Make sure the kids wear ear plugs while in the water. If they have been infected, administer an over-the-counter antiseptic ear drop.
6. Food Poisoning & Diarrhoea
While this can typically strike throughout the year, summer is when bacterial growth is at its peak. This is also when the kids consume the greatest amounts of street and junk food. If microbes find their way into the digestive tract, it can induce vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever.
What you should do: The only way to avoid this is to maintain excellent hygiene in the kitchen and consume only fresh, well-cooked food. If you are going out for dinner, make sure the restaurant meets hygiene standards as well.
7. Urinary Tract Infection
It's not just the skin that heats up with sun exposure, your alimentary canal doesn't like it either! This, combined with insufficient water consumption, can lead to stomach cramps and pain during urination.
What you should do: Get your kids to drink more and more water! Keep their stomach cool with foods such as watermelon and buttermilk. Also maintain cleanliness and personal hygiene. If the infection is severe, your child may need antibiotics.
8. Viral Cold & Cough
Which kid ever said no to ice-creams, cold-drinks and delicious roadside snacks, especially in summer? But this is also the season when the air is really dry, and their resistance to infection-causing viruses is low. A viral fever is very common at this time, leading to a runny nose, sore throat, cough and headache.
What you should do: A good amount of rest, plenty of fluids and saline drops are usually sufficient to recover from the ailment. Consider visiting a doctor if the symptoms refuse to subside.
9. Prickly Heat
This is probably the most aptly named summer ailment ever! Too much sweating sometimes blocks the skin pores which causes raised bumps. And yes, they feel really prickly!
What you should do: Opt for a chemical-free talcum powder which can ease the condition. Also dress up your child in loose-fitting cotton clothes as far as possible.
10. Asthma
Blame it on the air pollution, intense heat and humidity, high pollen levels or increased microbial growth, asthma attacks have been noted to rise at this time. Your child may also encounter other respiratory illnesses or infections.
What you should do: If your child is asthmatic, try to keep him indoors when the pollution and heat are the highest. Make sure the home environment is clean and sanitised. Keep his inhalers and any prescribed medication handy.
Now that you are armed with knowledge of the risks beforehand, we foresee a happy and healthy summer. Just make sure you heed any warning signs and visit the doctor if the symptoms refuse to die out with the solutions provided. Read more

Taking Insulin During Pregnancy - Recommended Dosage, Risks and Tips
Many women face the problem of diabetes during pregnancy. There are three types of diabetes, but no matter which you have, you will have to take a few steps to have a healthy pregnancy. It is important for pregnant women with diabetes to keep going in for regular check-ups as they will require more prenatal care than the average pregnant woman.
What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is the abnormal elevation of blood sugar and glucose levels in a person. There are times when a person’s blood sugar is higher than normal, but not high enough to be considered diabetes. This is called 'prediabetes', and a person who has this is at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
There are three types of diabetes as discussed below.
1. Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
If your body cannot produce enough insulin, you are considered to have Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes is more common. In this case, the body does not use insulin well as it has developed a resistance towards it.
2. Gestational Diabetes
When pregnant women are diagnosed with diabetes, it is known as gestational diabetes. This is not an uncommon phenomenon and occurs due to the hormonal changes that are part of pregnancy.
What is Insulin?
Insulin is actually a hormone that helps glucose (which comes from the food we consume) to get into the cells and give them energy. Basically, it helps to regulate the use of glucose in our bodies and it is produced by the pancreas. Too much glucose in a person’s blood can result in nerve, eye, and kidney problems if left unchecked for a long time. There are times when it could result in a stroke, heart disease, or even produce the need to amputate a limb.
When Are You Recommended to Take An Insulin Shot during Pregnancy?
If your blood sugar still does not drop after a change in diet and exercise, then your doctor is more likely to prescribe insulin shots. These shots help to keep both mother and child healthy and safe, as they are meant to regulate the glucose levels in the blood. Here are the things that will need to be considered when prescribing insulin during pregnancy:
The stage of the pregnancy
The mother's weight
The mother's diet
The results of the latest blood sugar level test
Insulin Changes in Pregnancy
Insulin requirements are constantly changing during the different stages of pregnancy. This is because of all the hormonal changes that your body goes through while your baby is growing. Be prepared for adjustments in your insulin doses as these are quite common and have been known to happen at least once a week.
Early Pregnancy
All the hormonal and physical changes that take place during early pregnancy make it quite difficult to keep the ideal blood glucose levels. Your glucose levels will be unstable for the first six to eight weeks of pregnancy, and then they start to decrease for the rest of the first trimester. This is when you are most likely to need to adjust your insulin intake. Be very sure not to miss any meals and snacks.
Mid to Late Pregnancy
As your pregnancy hormones rise, so does your need for more insulin. By 30 weeks, your requirements may be twice as much as your pre-pregnancy dose. You will most likely need fast acting meal-time insulin.
By 36 weeks, your insulin requirement is most likely to remain steady or drop just a little, but if you start to notice your requirement dropping a lot, you are most likely having problems, so do contact your doctor.
Right Dosage of Insulin for Pregnant Women
When it comes to the dosage of insulin in pregnancy, you and your doctor will need to work together, as the need for insulin will change as the baby grows.
Your blood sugar will need to be checked several times a day so that it can be established whether or not the insulin you have been prescribed is working effectively. Your dosage will be adjusted according to blood sugar levels.
1. Type 1 Diabetes
Your glucose will need to be checked before and after meals, before bedtime, and early in the morning.
With an increase in the levels of progesterone, there is a need for more insulin.
After the first month of pregnancy, the levels of progesterone increases until the placenta takes over for the ovaries when it comes to producing progesterone. This is at around 10 to 12 weeks.
At around three months, the progesterone level falls, and the need for insulin also drop. During this time, pregnant women are monitored regularly, and a lower dosage of insulin is required.
This lasts for around eight days, after which the levels of progesterone increases and results in an increase in the dosage of insulin.
2. Type 2 Diabetes
Your carbohydrate intake will most likely need to be reduced as Type 2 Diabetes patients often have an intolerance to it.
Regular monitoring will be required, and the dose of insulin required will be adjusted according to the results.
How to Take Insulin When Pregnant?
Insulin is usually injected into the fatty tissue under the skin of your upper arms, thighs or stomach. Speak to your obstetrician about where the best place to take the shot is for you. Some doctors prescribe an insulin pen, which makes taking the shot so much easier, but you can also use the disposable needles and syringes. Here is how to take the shot:
Prepare the area you will be taking the shot with some alcohol.
Pinch the skin and inject the insulin, slowly pushing down the plunger.
Release the pinched skin and slowly remove the needle from your skin.
Do not rub; instead, hold the site of the injection for a few seconds.
Things to Remember for Making Insulin Work Best for You
Things you can do to make your insulin shots more effective:
Practice taking the shot beforehand and always ensure to have the correct amount of insulin. Be extra careful about this if you are taking two different kinds in the same syringe.
Maintain a record of which insulin type you have used and how much.
Do your best to take the shot at the same time every day and if you feel any discomfort, always contact your doctor immediately.
Store your insulin properly so that it is effective every time.
Don't change your diet, insulin or exercise without first speaking to your doctor about it.
How to Monitor Blood Sugar Levels When Taking Insulin Shots?
As you will need to keep a constant eye on your blood sugar while to take your insulin shot, you will need a glucometer so that you can monitor your levels at home. Here is how you do it:
There will be a sharp needle that comes with the glucometer. This is to be used to prick your fingertip to draw some blood.
You will get some test strips as well so put a drop of blood on it and then put it in the glucometer.
This process will take 15 seconds after which you will get the result.
Remember to keep track of your readings so that you can show it to your doctor at your next visit.
Dispose of the needle and the test strip.
Possible Side Effects of Taking Insulin in Pregnancy
Most of the time, taking insulin for gestational diabetes while pregnant is only prescribed if you are unable to get your blood sugar levels under control through exercise and diet. If you ensure to keep monitoring your levels, you can minimize the chances of dealing with the side effects. Side effects posed to the foetus due to use of insulin during pregnancy are very dangerous, so keep an eye out for the following and if you see any signs of them, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Dizziness
Shaking
Sweating
Racing heart
Swelling of the face
Tingling in the tongue and lips
Puffiness in lips, tongue, and throat
If your insulin levels were not adjusted at the end of the first trimester when the drop in progesterone levels occured, you are more at risk of developing low blood sugar. This can also happen if you skip meals.
When taking the insulin injection during pregnancy, if you give it in the same place every day, you may start to notice some lumps start to form. So try to avoid that.
There are many women who have to battle diabetes during their pregnancies each year, and they end with favourable results, and they have happy and healthy babies. The key is managing the levels of glucose by eating balanced and healthy meals, and keeping up with your exercise. It is important for you to keep track of your blood sugar at home and not only depend on hospital visits to do so.

Return Gift Ideas for Your Child's Birthday Party
My child's birthday was near and I was thinking about the returns gifts. I couldn't understand what should I give in return to my son's friends. I realised that choosing an appropriate return gift for my son's birthday party was a tough job. If you don't want to spend a fortune, still want to buy thoughtful and useful gifts for your child's friends, then here are some suggestions.
1. Utility Gifts
Lunch Boxes - A lunch box can make for a wonderful return gift and surely your child's friends would love receiving it as a gift. You can also add a cookie or a cake pop to it. They will be extremely happy.
Pencil Boxes - Kids love writing with new pens and pencils. If you give them pencil boxes as return gifts with all the necessary stationery like a pencil, pen, eraser, sharpener, and ruler. They will be more than happy on receiving such a thoughtful gift.
Piggy Banks - When I was a child I used to love collecting coins in my piggy bank. So, I thought piggy banks would make for perfect return gifts.
2. Watches
No, you don't need to buy branded watches for each and every child because kids get bored of wearing the same thing. You can buy inexpensive colourful watches for kids. On receiving the gifts, they will have a big smile on their faces.
3. Books
It's always a good idea to inculcate reading habits in children. So how about giving books as return gifts? Give a book to each child who attends your child's birthday party. You never know, it might encourage them to read books. As a child, I enjoyed reading books of Enid Blyton, Ruskin bond, Dr. Seuss, etc. You can choose the books by these authors or look on the internet to explore your options.
4. Photos
This is something I did for my son's first birthday. It wasn't a grand affair and I had invited only close family members. I had made sure that each family member has a picture with my son. I got those pictures framed and wrapped them. It was a delight to see their happy faces on opening their gift. It's something that will remain with them for the longest time. You can do that for your child's birthday party too. Instead of taking individual pictures, click a group picture of your child and his friends. Later you can get copies created of the same and gift them to all the children.
5. Chocolates
An attractive box of chocolates is loved by all - be it kids or adults. So buy small boxes of chocolates and give them as return gifts to your child's friends.I hope you like these options and would consider one of the above for your child's birthday.

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
