Evaporation Line On Pregnancy Test - What Exactly Is It?
Every time women buy a pregnancy test kit, it is assumed that they already know how to use it well. The instructions present on the kit do their best to cover all possible scenarios and instructions on the best way to use it. But sometimes, there can be certain results that may not exactly reveal whether you are pregnant or not. They can even be interpreted to mean one thing when it is actually the other.
How Does Home Pregnancy Test Work?
All pregnancy kits work on the same principle, no matter which brand or company has manufactured them. They all consist of a stick, which needs to be peed on and given some time for it to display the result. What the sticks do is check the presence of a hormone called as hCG. Termed as human chorionic gonadotropin hormone, this is a primary sign for a woman to be pregnant and is present in good quantities, especially in the first urine of the morning.
What Is An Evaporation Line on The Test?
Every kit has a specified amount of time within which it displays the result. This time is usually somewhere around 5 minutes. If the stick is left around longer than that, what happens is that a faint line appears on the area where the result is displayed. This line is termed as an evaporation line in a pregnancy test. Women wondering how common are evaporation lines present on the stick should know that there have been various cases mentioning them. Any deviation from the specific instructions mentioned on the pregnancy kit can result in their appearance in the display area.
How To Identify The Evaporation Lines on Pregnancy Test?
The test result lines and the evaporation lines are rather distinctive. In the process of figuring out what colour is the evaporation lines on pregnancy tests, one major thing to remember is that they can be distinguished to be separate from the norm.
These lines are usually colourless but, at times, could have a very faint colour to them. They are not as bold and vivid as the display result lines. These evaporation lines do not appear on every single pregnancy test for every woman. At times, the chemical composition of your urine could cause an evaporation line to appear as well.
If the results of the pregnancy stick are checked well within the stipulated time mentioned in the instructions, the chances of spotting an evaporation line are negligible.
Causes of Evap Lines
The evaporation lines are known to occur mostly when the pregnancy test stick is left by itself longer than the time mentioned in the kit instructions. In such a case, the urine on the stick starts evaporating and may cause a second line to appear, which is termed as the evaporation line. At times, a pregnancy stick with a different sensitivity level than usual ones could also result in the formation of a faint coloured line.
How To Avoid Getting Evaporation Lines on Pregnancy Test?
The instructions mentioned in a pregnancy kit are absolutely instrumental in achieving a conclusive and strong result that signifies the presence or absence of your pregnancy.
Since the pregnancy sticks function on the presence of the human chorionic gonadotropin hormone in the urine, it is necessary to ensure that your urine contains the highest proportion of it, if you were to be pregnant. This can be achieved by using the first urine of the day for the pregnancy test since it has a better chance of containing large proportions of the hormone.
Checking the pregnancy stick at the right time is necessary as well. Checking too soon will, unfortunately, yield nothing. Checking too late could cause the urine on the pregnancy stick to dry out, and result in the formation of an evaporation line. This could lead you to believe that you are pregnant when, in fact, you are not.
Any diluted urine or using a brand of pregnancy kit that is not well known could cause the stick to display a faint line on it, which may or may not be an evaporation line. Therefore, it is necessary to use the right kit and the right time of urination.
How Is Evaporation Line Different From A Positive Pregnancy Test?
An evaporation line is displayed only after the stick has been out for more than the stipulated time. The line that appears on it as thin and colourless, and cannot be spotted easily.
A positive pregnancy test, however, is revealed with a strong and bold line and is quite thick. It can be easily seen and stands out by itself.
Difference Between Faint Positive Pregnancy Test And Evap Line
A faint positive pregnancy test reveals itself to be displayed on the pregnancy stick in the form of an absolutely thick line which is exactly of the same width as the control line. As for an evaporation line, since that occurs due to the urine drying out, it is comparatively thinner than the control line on the kit, as well as isn’t as vivid as the other.
The reaction time is an important key in distinguishing this aspect. If you are pregnant, then the pregnancy line on the kit will be displayed within the reaction time mentioned on the pregnancy kit. The evaporation line does not appear so soon and requires the urine to dry out to be displayed. Therefore, if the evaporation line is seen, that means you have let the pregnancy stick be by itself for longer than needed.
When a pregnancy test line is displayed, it has the exact same colour as that of the control line of the kit. Certain kits might have a different colour but they are usually vivid and easily discernible. An evaporation line cannot be spotted as easily as that. They are usually colourless and even if there is any colour, it is primarily greyish or off-white, which is also rather dull and blends easily with the display material.
Taking pregnancy tests and waiting for the results can put you in a nervous and anxious state. In such a situation, misreading the stick results can cause you to jump to conclusions without being fully sure of them. By knowing what do evaporation lines look like, you can take measures in understanding the results properly, and be opting for another test, too, if required.

Cute & Lovely Baby Expressions and Their Meanings
When parents observe their baby's facial expressions for the first time, they are usually enamoured by them. Over time, the realization sets in that the funny expressions of babies are simply what we see them as. For babies, that’s primarily the only way to communicate their thoughts and feelings to us. Therefore, understanding what the expressions mean and taking any action if necessary is extremely important in taking care of the baby.
Understanding the Meanings of the Expressions of Babies
Here’s how you can decipher your little one’s expressions.
1. Looking at You
What It Means
The baby’s first sign of learning anything is from you. He observes how you react to a certain situation or a person and tries to understand whether it is good or bad.
What Parents Should Do
By making different faces at the baby, and naming each face as “happy” and “sad” with your voice, the baby starts to understand the emotion behind it and will react accordingly. In case a new person enters the environment, be friendly with them and let the baby see you smiling together so that he knows that the new person is not a threat and is welcome.
2. Cooing, Laughing, Broken Babbling
What It Means
Having heard parents talk amongst themselves or to them, babies may attempt to create variations in their voices the way you do or even try to match their pitch and modulations to suit yours. At around 4-6 months, babies start using their tongue, even more, babbling continuously and trying to create letters and words to communicate feelings.
What Parents Should Do
Have conversations with your baby about the day. Talk to him about what you are going to do, or be excited about new things that he might see. Ask him questions and allow him time to reply in his own way.
3. Furrowing Eyebrows and Pouting Lips
What It Means
With a stressful face like this, it is a sign that the baby is slightly overwhelmed at the moment and he might break down any moment. He wants to be alone and comfortable and doesn’t feel like it right now.
What Parents Should Do
Put your baby in a cradle and rock it gently or lift him in your arms and sway slowly. Let him calm down and relax and then place him again where he was earlier. Once he knows that everything is fine and calm, he will return back to being normal and playful.
4. Power Kicks
What It Means
Kicking usually happens when your baby gets a month old or so, and he discovers the presence of these limbs. Around this time, he starts finding other activities interesting and might get bored if they aren’t available to him. So he might start kicking around as a play or might be drawing your attention, too.
What Parents Should Do
It is best to check the baby quickly for signs of anything that might be discomforting him. Maybe the diaper is soiled, or something is poking or itching him. Look at his face and see if he’s irritated. If not, then he’s mostly kicking around because he has discovered he can, and entertaining himself. Help him do some bicycle kicks and move legs in different directions too.
5. Extremely Joyful
What It Means
Your baby may be smiling tremendously with their tiny mouth wide open, cheeks all high, and making various sounds and giggling a lot. A strong sign is when wrinkles form on the side of his eyes. This is a clear sign to indicate that he likes whatever he’s seeing right now.
What Parents Should Do
Well, keep going with whatever’s happening. If you are dancing and your baby seems to like it a lot, talk back to him and let him see the smile on your face, too. Make funny noises and use names like mommy and daddy while playing games with him so that he starts associating what he likes as well.
6. Small Low-Pitched Cry
What It Means
When a baby wakes up from a nap and feels hungry, he would usually make it known by crying in a short low-pitched manner, just for a second or two. If he does not receive any attention, the cries will progressively get louder and longer.
What Parents Should Do
On hearing the first cry, attend to your baby immediately so that he knows for a fact that you are nearby. Don’t worry about spoiling your baby with needless attention since he needs all the attention he can get in the initial months. Check if he has soiled his diaper. If not, place your finger on his mouth. If he starts sucking, it means he is hungry and it is time to feed him.
7. Intense and Investigative Stare
What it Means
Babies are fascinated by anything and everything around them. And if something catches their attention, they will continue to stare at it for a long time until they understand what they are looking at. Also, if you see your child staring at you as you move away, it is mostly a sign that he is keeping track of where you are and wonders if you will appear again from the same place.
What Parents Should Do
If your baby is staring at an object, let him continue to do so uninterrupted. Else, you can get the object or toy closer to him and see if he wants to have it. If he stares at you as you leave, you can engage in a quick peek-a-boo with him or enter from a different door to see his fascinated reaction.
8. Clumsy Clapping
What it Means
Though babies discover their limbs in the early months of their first year, it takes them a while to understand how to coordinate them in a functional manner. If your child accidentally touches his palms together and hears a sound, he will be astonished by it and want to explore it further.
What Parents Should Do
Go ahead and look at your child with admiration and clap for him. Knowing he has discovered his arms, try out different movements like raising your hands or waving them and see what he tries to do. Play clapping games with him and let him understand the power of non-verbal communication, too.
9. Grunting Sounds
What it Means
If you notice your baby grunting slowly, making ‘grrr’ sounds, it generally means he is in some kind of discomfort. At times, his face might seem tightened up or he might bend his knees and pull his legs to his chest.
What Parents Should Do
Your baby might be suffering from gas problems and fail to understand what’s happening. Gently rub his tummy and move his legs around so that he may fart and release gas. Pick him up and let him rest his back to your chest so that the pressure on the abdomen is reduced. Take them around or outside for a while until they feel calm. If this further escalates into intense crying, he might be suffering from pain and it is best to contact your doctor.
10. Startled And Surprised
What It Means
Usually present in the early months of their birth, babies respond to loud sounds and lights with a startle. A sudden bang or turning on of the lights or even his own body moving by its own weight, can startle him and cause him to get nervous and start crying.
What Parents Should Do
If the baby seems on the verge of crying, lift him up with a blanket, and recreate an environment resembling the cosy safe space of the womb. Gently hum to him and let him realize he is in a safe space with parents around and there is nothing to be afraid of.
11. Content And Satisfied
What It Means
This expression is of an extreme zen-like state where your baby seems to be free from any trials and tribulations of the world. He seems at complete peace, neither wanting any attention, nor observing anything around them, and simply relaxed in the state that they are.
What Parents Should Do
Let your baby be. Enjoy the calm that comes with a satisfied baby. He might make certain cooing sounds or gurgling sounds or move their limbs around. Do not attempt to engage with the baby needlessly. Let them have their own alone time. Make sure they are comfortable so that if they drift off to sleep, they can do so easily.
12. Clenched Fists
What It Means
Around 6 months or so, your baby might realize he can clench his fists. Generally, he’d do so around your finger or to suck on it. But at times, it might be a sign of irritation or hunger or just asking to be left alone.
What Parents Should Do
If you or anyone is playing with the baby, stop that and allow him to be alone by himself. Talk to him calmly to let him know you are close by. If it is accompanied by a small cry, check for feeding times or a soiled diaper.
Baby’s expressions is no different from trying to learn a foreign language. One expression could mean a lot of things. But that truly is the beauty of growing with your child as you understand him better and he begins to understand you as well.

5 Creative Ideas To Help Children Celebrate Teachers' Day This Entire Week
You have probably had a phase in your life when you were so in awe of your teachers that you wanted to be one when you grew up. But guess what, you ARE a teacher! You are the one to shape your child’s future and he turns to you for advice. Just like you, your little one's school also plays a major role in bringing them up as well-rounded children. This Teacher's Day on September 5, celebrate how important your child’s teacher is, not just for your child but for you as well.
India celebrates Teachers’ Day every year on September 5. It is the birth date of the second President of India – academic philosopher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – who was himself a brilliant teacher. Through this week, help your child recognise the role of his teacher in his life.
Ideas to Help your Child Celebrate His Teacher
1. Make a Handmade Teachers' Day Card/Gift Together
Help your child make a little handmade card for his teacher. Just a simple card with the words “Happy Teachers’ Day” can make any teacher happy. You can also ask your little one to give his teachers flowers. If everything else is too last minute, simply remind your child to verbally wish his teacher. Everybody loves to be appreciated for what they do! Make the entire week a 'Teacher Appreciation Week' wherein your little one honours his teachers with his/her creative gifts and cards!
One of our mommy bloggers, Shubhra, shared how she spent Teachers' Day with her little girl. It is a funny but endearing incident that we are sure must have happened to you too some time!
Her daughter said:
“I want to make a card for Sonia Ma’am, Nikita Ma’am, Farah Ma’am and Radhika Ma’am”, and her list kept increasing. We pondered over making prints from potatoes, okra, fork painting and clip painting. Great minds were at work and I could sense that my daughter wanted to do her best.
Finally, she said..."
2. Help Your Child Write a Thoughtful Letter
Writing a heartfelt letter will never go out of fashion. Help your kid write down what he thinks about his teacher on a paper and ask him to give it to his teacher on Teachers’ Day. An honest, appreciative letter is a treasure his teacher will forever beam at! You could also write from a parent's perspective, perhaps about how much a teacher has helped your child in algebra.
Tip: You could help your child write a series of letters to all his favourite teachers, and make this entire week dedicated to his/her gurus!
Watch this adorable cute little girl giving a Teachers' Day speech. It is the CUTEST thing we have heard in a long time!

3. Help the Teacher Build an Inspiring Classroom:
This tip to celebrate Teachers’ Day can help nurture your child’s leadership skills apart from pleasing his teacher very much! As a part of the Teachers’ Day activities for kids this week, do this:
Tell your child he should take up charge for keeping his classroom clean and inspiring this week.
Help your child and his group of friends clean the classroom first. They can pick up bits of paper or pencil shavings to give the classroom a cleaner look.
Next, help him put up projects and DIYs on his classroom walls. Here are some to get you started: Ellie the Elephant DIY & DIY Minion Hand Puppet. Teachers deserve to be celebrated in style and a crafty classroom makes teaching more fun!
4. Volunteer in Classroom
If you run out of all creative ideas for teachers day celebration, you could take a couple of days off to appreciate your child’s teachers by volunteering at his school. Many schools have programs that allow parents to volunteer in helping kids out in subjects they specialise in. For instance, if your were a Physics major at college, you could perhaps teach Physics at your child’s school. Or if you are good at a particular sport, you could coach the junior team. The school will love it, your kids will love it, and you too will have a great time!
5. Organise Fun Activities for Your Child's Teachers
As a member of Parent-Teacher association at your child’s school, you along with the other parents, could organise interesting games for Teachers’ Day throughout this week. It is their time and they would heartily appreciate a breather. Coordinate singing and dancing competitions for teachers. You could also arrange for a lunch party with home cooked food or food from a restaurant.
The idea behind setting up Teachers’ day activities for kids is to let your child acknowledge the efforts his teachers make for him and his classmates. It is your duty as parents to teach your kids gratitude, compassion and sensitivity. Read more
