Fever After Vaccination in Babies
One of the side effects of vaccination is a fever. As a parent, you may not know what you should do in such a situation. Let’s find out how a fever after vaccination affects your child.
Is Post-Vaccination Fever Normal?
Some babies experience a high temperature after getting a shot, and this is normal. It means that your child’s immune system is responding to the vaccination. Hence, you shouldn’t be worried if your baby is down with a mild fever.
What Causes Fever After Vaccination in Infants?
Vaccination prevented diseases from infecting the body, by preparing the immune system to fight against a potential threat. After vaccination, babies’ bodies heat up a little due to the response from immune system against a few vaccines. It is purely a defence mechanism of the body to get rid of an infection which is commonly labelled as fever. Hence, some vaccination cause fever after vaccination in some infants.
What Are the Red Flags?
A temperature over 99°F is regarded as fever in children and it shouldn’t be ignored. Here are the signs you should look out for:
101°F or higher in babies younger than 3 months
102° F or higher in babies who are between 3- and 6-months-old
Extreme fatigue
Pain in the stomach, limbs, and ears
Difficulty swallowing fluids
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Fever that persists for more than 3 days
Drowsiness
Tips to Help Your Baby Deal With This Phase
Even though a fever after vaccination is normal, you would want to ensure your baby feels more comfortable and relaxed. Here’s what you can do:
1. Be There for Her
There’s nothing more that an infant wants than her parents’ love and care. Just be there for your child. Plan the day such that you get 3 to 4 hours with your child after vaccination.
2. Keep Your Infant’s Room Well-Ventilated
Keep the windows open and let the fresh air in. The ideal temperature is 18° Celsius (65°
3. You can also use a humidifier.
In most cases, a post-immunisation fever will resolve on its own. However, it’s always better to follow your gut instinct, and contact your paediatrician if you feel something amiss.

When you are pregnant you do everything with caution and you also give a lot of thought to your eating habits. too You demand the weirdest things but are denied most of them as it might not be good for the health of the little one growing inside you. If you love seafood it becomes forbidden fruit since it contains so many pollutants, but isn't it oh-so-delicious? One of the yummiest options is shrimp. And then you wonder is it safe to eat shrimp during pregnancy? If yes, then how? Dive into the details here with us and learn the dos and don'ts of eating shrimp during pregnancy. We will make sure you and your baby are satisfied and safe.
Can a Pregnant Woman Eat Shrimp?
The short and simple answer is yes! While most seafood are not good for mommy and baby, shrimp has a low mercury level and is safe to eat when cooked well. However, as is the case with any good thing – eat it in small doses at about 340g a week. That should cover two meals but if it gets done in one sitting, don’t worry. No one will judge! After all, you are eating for two!
What are the Health Benefits of Eating Shrimp while Pregnant?
Shrimp is a healthy food and a storehouse of nutritional value. Shrimp is equipped with a plethora of vitamins and minerals that are good for you and your baby. Find out what are the health benefits of eating shrimp:
Low-fat: Shrimp is an all-round healthy option as it has a low-fat content so there are no concerns regarding weight gains or spikes at an unhealthy level.
Protein Alert: Shrimp has high levels of protein which is key to foetal growth. A majority of the shrimp’s edible portion is water (75%). Out of the remaining 25%, 80% is protein. And the good thing about eating shrimp is that it is rich in amino acids.
Iron-rich: For every 100 gm of shrimp you eat, you gain 1.8gm of iron, which is significant for overall baby growth and development. Iron also reduces the risk of anaemia in pregnancy and helps with blood supply to the baby. It also reduces the risk of premature birth.
A good source of omega-3: Another element key to your pregnancy that can be found in shrimp are high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. What are these? Super-nutrients that help in the development of your child’s nervous system and eyes. They contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and studies have shown that women who consume safe seafood give birth to babies with more enhanced cognitive skills.
Skip the pills: Go all natural with shrimp and do away with the vitamin and mineral supplements such as calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. These are essential to stimulate bone health, fluid balance, and regulate the production of enzymes. The 100g of fresh shrimp above would equip you with 100mg calcium, 40μg of selenium (boosts mother’s immunity) and 300mg phosphorus. This yummy seafood delicacy also contains the ideal amounts of vitamins A, D, E, B3, and B12.
Is It Safe to Eat Raw or Uncooked Shrimp when Pregnant?
This is not a good idea. Even when you are not pregnant, you should never eat raw, uncooked, or undercooked shrimps. They could contain worms and parasites that could make both mom and baby sick. Furthermore, they contain listeria which causes a bacterial infection. All these bacteria infect the foetus by passing through the placenta, and in some cases even cause a miscarriage. Uncooked shrimp are even exposed to antibiotics that could cause serious impediments to your baby’s development.

How dad can support new moms in her new phase
Motherhood is the feeling that no one realise except the mother herself. When a woman become a mother, right after the birth of baby she starts caring her child like she might be doing this job for years. As usual, the mindset of the family is same like my daughter-in-law will manage baby and house work simultaneously. Why don't people think that dad's phase also started with mom's phase?
A dad can help a newly mom in so many ways-
• He can bring or make food for his wife when she is busy with breastfeeding a baby. This will satisfied a mom so much
• As burping just after the breastfeed is very crucial for new born, a dad can help in it
• As this phase is totally new for mom, she might feel low sometimes. A dad can encourage and appreciate mom by simply saying that " You are doing an amazing job"
• Baby needs just a mom as he or she feels connected with mom from the womb. So that's a difficult task for dad to soothe baby when he or she is crying. A dad can help a mom in this condition also by doing skin-to-skin for baby so that baby feels comfortable and stays happy
• A dad can provide bath to baby so that mom can rest during that time.
• A dad can give massage to baby. Many people are thinking that this is female's job, a man can't do in a proper way. Then I would say this a 'myth'.
• A mom has to take care of essentials also as what is their in kitchen or not. Dad can relieve her by keeping essentials stocked up
• A dad can play with baby so that he or she stays happy
• A dad can sing lullabies for his little one. This is again a difficult job as baby feels more connected via lullabies only if mom sings. But a little help of dad can soothe mom
• A new born baby can visualise black and white colours so dad can read books for little one
• Changing diapers or langots is the 24×7 job. A dad can change diapers in night so that mom can sleep stress free
• A dad can pamper and surprise mom to feel her amazing
• Let mom sleep a little extraextra as mom gives her whole day to child
A small help of a dad decreases the stress of mom. Now a mom can feel that she is not alone.
Always keep in mind, child's responsibility is not of one person. Read more

Why do newborns sleep more during the day? Is it possible for new borns to sleep more during the night?
We all sleep because of the melatonin secreted in our body and it is secreted in enough quantities during night to facilitate good sleep . Babies, when in womb makes use of the melatonin secreted by mom and which stays in their body until around 6 weeks post birth. As a result new born babies sleep more. From around 6 weeks babies start to produce their own melatonin. Babies can start to sleep well at night once their circadian rhythm is set up.
Circadian rhythm - It is a natural and internal process that regulates sleep.sleep and wake cycle created for every 24hrs.
Melatonin- A harmone created by pineal gland at night to control sleep cycle.
Ways to help babies sleep well during night:
1. Introducing day and night- To help newborn or infants sleep well at night, it is required to make them understand the concept of day and night which can be done by following ways:
Taking on a morning walk and evening walk
By opening the curtains to let the sunlight in during the day.
By exposing the newborns to daily activities and minimal sound
By using dim lights(preferably red lights) during the evenings and night.
2. Setting up a routine- imagine walking into someone's house in the dark, sounds feaking right!. This is exactly what a newborn feels once it enters the new world from the womb. So we can make the baby feel secure by letting it know what exactly will happen next, and this is done by following routines for the particular things at particular time in a particular manner.
Eg: sleep routine- A gentle warm bath or a sponge bath, feed, diaper change, putting on nightsuits, reading a story for them, hug, wish good night and put them to sleep.
3. Setting up sleeping environment- yes you heard it right! Sleep environment is very necessary for babies ro sleep well. It includes following:
Dark room/Dim lights
Low noise/white noise
Crib or cot which makes the baby feel secure
Dressing baby according to the room temperature. Read more
