Nutrient Requirements of a 14-month-old Child
Your child is still in a growing stage and needs the best nutrition to keep his development on track.
1. Calories
Energy is the biggest requirement for kids who are 14 months old. Beginning with 1000 calories from the previous months, the daily requirement would plateau somewhere around 1200-1300 calories at this time.
2. Proteins
Our diet usually focuses highly on carbohydrates, which can leave the amount of protein on the lower side. But don' ignore it. A 14-month-old kid requires around 13-15 grams of protein on a daily basis.
3. Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates should be included in your child’s diet since they not only provide energy but give the brain all the support it needs to function and grow. Their requirement is the same as that of an adult, i.e. roughly 130-150 grams per day.
4. Dietary Fibre
Dietary fibre is important for your child's good health. It helps in digestion and ensures bowel movement. A child's daily intake of fibre from fruits and whole foods should be at least 19 grams.
5. Sodium
Sodium is one of the most vital nutrients required for our bodily processes. Kids need it too. A baby would need around 1 gram of sodium every day.
6. Iron
If your child has weaned, he needs to keep his iron intake optimal from other sources. With a 7mg daily intake of iron, your child will easily steer clear of any kind of iron deficiency.
7. Water
While most parents might not look at water as a nutrient, the requirement of water to keep the body’s electrolyte balance perfect cannot be stressed enough. Make sure your child drinks at least 1 litre of water throughout the day.
8. Supplementary Nutrients
Apart from the major ones, some trace substances are also necessary to support different areas of the body. Omega 3 fatty acids, DHA, probiotics, and many others can be included by adding variety to your meals.
How Much Food Does a Toddler Need At 14 Months
Before looking for breakfast ideas for your little one, it is important to know that a 14-month-old toddler won't eat as much as they used to before. Even though they are growing, their development rate is plateauing down to a fixed pace. A daily requirement of 1000 calories is usually enough for kids at this age.
Best Foods for a Fourteen-month-old Baby
To ensure that your 14-month-old baby gets the best nutrition, here are some popular food items that you can include in his diet without fail.
1. Breastmilk
Although many mothers might choose to wean their child from their breast, if breastmilk consumption is continued at this age, it is quite beneficial for the little one. Numerous antibodies along with enzymes and vitamins are easily provided via breastmilk and keep your kid healthier and protected from infection for a longer duration.
2. Meat
While choosing meat, it is necessary to opt for lean meat products such as fish or poultry for your kid. These can provide the required amount of protein for your kid’s age as well as introduce him to a tasty and delicious palate at the same time. Around 30g of meat should suffice.
3. Cheese
Kids love to eat cheese. It doesn’t have to always be paired with bread items or any fast foods. Include cheese with your regular vegetables or breakfast items for an added twist, and your kid will get enough calcium and proteins from it.
4. Beans
When giving beans to your child, mash them. These are a blessing for families that are vegetarian since they can provide a good quantity of proteins and vitamin C. Furthermore, synthesis of iron within the body is also supported by them.
5. Eggs
Eggs are highly recommended and one of the most popular choices for breakfast. Since there are so many ways to make eggs, your child will never get bored. Along with that, the presence of folate, vitamin B12, iron, and other nutrients make it the healthiest meal your child will have.
6. Juices
When we say juices, we strictly mean the ones prepared at home from fresh fruits. Don’t give your child the commercial juices that contain preservatives, sugar, or any sort of additional elements. Stick to only 180-200ml of quantity at the most.
7. Milk
Some kids are weaned off by the time they are 14 months, so they must drink around half a cup of milk on a daily basis without fail. Pairing it with some interesting food items can elevate the taste, and the fat from the milk can provide him with energy.
8. Vegetables
These form the very core of any meal for a child. Avoid giving raw vegetables to your child and choose to steam or boil them, making them soft. Opting for items of various colours would make the entire dish interesting for your child, and help him meet his vitamin intake properly.
9. Fruits
It is a great habit to eat a fruit after having a meal since they top up any missing nutrients that your body requires. Make sure the fruits are ripe when given to your kid. A 14-month-old child can have around a small cup of fruit quite easily.
10. Grains
The largest constituent present in a child’s meal are foods made from grains. Whole foods or even vegetable pasta can be tasty ways to include grains in his diet. Opting for bread made from whole wheat or including oatmeal in breakfast is highly recommended for kids to make sure that their nutrients requirements are met in an easy way.

Feeding Tips
Here are a few tips to keep in mind before feeding your child:
Continue breastfeeding your child if you can.
Make sure you give tiny pieces of fruit or other food items.
Teach him to take small bites and chew properly.
Make him eat only when he is sitting up.
Do not make him sip juices or milk around bedtime.
Teach your baby how to use a cup.
Try these amazing recipes for your 14-month-old baby and he will eat it without any fuss. With a proper meal plan and a diet that covers all the necessary nutrients, you can know for sure that your tiny tot is developing in the right way.
Disclaimer:
Each child is different and so use these meal plans as a trusted guide as per your discretion. You can modify the meals according to your child's preferences / requirements.
Never force-feed a child.
While preparing formula, please follow the instructions on the box and use the measuring spoon provided with it.
While introducing solid food to a baby, initially, one needs to prepare watery gruels/soups. As a child gets older, the caretaker/ mother has to increase the thickness of the liquids slowly according to the child's capacity to swallow. Foods that are too thick can cause stomach upset/ unnecessary load; while excessively watery food might cause the child to remain hungry.
Some kids may eat less on some days and that is absolutely alright. However, if a child eats less for more than 3-4 consecutive days, please visit a doctor to guide further.
A child may eat less during the teething phase or if he/she may not be feeling well. You could increase breast milk /formula feeds on those days. Re-introduce the foods once the child is back to normal.
Don’t stop feeding if the child is suffering from diarrhoea.
8. You can alter the taste of the food by adding some natural flavours like cinnamon, jeera powder, lemon juice, curry leaves etc. if the child doesn't accept the food initially.
If your child suffers from an allergy to nuts, gluten or eggs, please consult your doctor before feeding him/her any foods that may contain them.

Role of the Family in a Child's Development
Humans are social animals, and thus the social structure plays an important role in their development. The first social interaction that takes place in a baby’s life is with his family only, or his immediate family is the first social group that a child may interact with. So, what role does a family play in a child’s development? Let's take a look.
How Does the Family Influence a Child's Development?
Family members are the first few people that a child interacts with and thus the role of the family in the socialization of a child cannot be undermined. It is because of these interactions that may help a child to have a better understanding of himself and of people around him. The way a child is loved, cared and nurtured at home provides the opportunities for a child to thrive better in his life. A family’s impact on child development is like a foundation, which may help in shaping up the future of a child. Here are some ways a family may influence a child’s development:
1. Values
A child is like a sponge and absorbs whatever he may notice or observe. This leaves a big onus on the parents because the child may eventually learn from the parents. Therefore, if you respect a certain section of society or give more preference to some people, your kid may be making his opinions in a similar manner. When you may behave in a disrespectful manner with somebody, your kid may be observing that too. The best way to teach a child is to lead by example, more than preaching it is what you may be practising that your child is more likely to follow. Also, it will be a good idea to start inculcating good values from a younger age only. We think that a younger child may not be able to appreciate or understand the importance of learning good values, but that may not be true. Kids understand better when you make them understand the consequences of their actions. Help them know what may happen if they do things a certain way and vice-a-versa. Therefore, it is very important for a family to inculcate good values in their child.
2. Socialization and Social Development
You and your family is your baby’s first social group. This means whatever your kid may be learning; he may be learning by observing the family members. It is observed that happy families or families that treat each other with love and respect help in giving a positive outlook of a family with their kid or share a positive example of social interaction. If your family spends quality time by having meals together, watching television together or spends time doing other such things together, it may help in fostering healthy social development. Also, your interactions with your child help him in learning about interaction with others. It is the way a family interacts with a child that may help a child to understand about relationships better. He may learn how to feel comfortable, make friends or trust people from his own family only. Relationships are very important for human survival, and your kid may learn to make and sustain relationships from his family. The foundations of good social skills are laid at home, which may help your kid to have better social skills and help him socialize better as he grows.
3. Developmental Skills
It is very important for a child to learn various developmental skills such as motor skills, cognitive skills, emotional skills and language skills for his optimal growth and development.
For helping your child polish his motor skills, you should involve your kid in various kinds of physical activities that may help him tune his motor skills. What may seem ordinary or comes naturally to you as an adult may be a task for your little one. In order to help his motor skills help your kid to learn to sit, walk, crawl, run and do other such physical activities.
To help your kid with the language, it is important that you talk, read, sing or engage in other such activities that involve the use of language. It has been observed that parents or family members who spend more time talking to younger children have better hold over language.
It is very important for a child to learn various emotional skills and a family plays an important part in that. It is from a family that a kid learns about various emotions such as love, compassion, sympathy etc. In lack of proper emotional skills, your child may not be able to express himself better emotionally and may lead to making destructive choices later in life.
4. Security
A child understands security from his family because it is the family only that tends to all his basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Apart from taking care of these basic survival needs of a child, a family provides a child with emotional security that he may not find anywhere else. This is because when your kid is outdoors, he may be required to behave in a certain manner or be social because he may be expected to behave as per the social norms. However, at home, he may express openly, and thus it becomes important that a safe and secure environment is created at home for a child to express freely. A child who feels secure and safe may grow and develop better than a child who may be living in an unsecured environment, where he may be scared to express himself freely. Security is of utmost importance for a child, and it may help your kid to grow better emotionally, physically and cognitively.
Nurturing a child is not a cake walk, and it requires great effort on the parent’s part. However, it is an extremely rewarding experience to see your child turn into a responsible and caring human being. It is not only important to inculcate good values and habits in your child, but it is also important to provide a conducive and secure environment to make sure that your child is able to abide by what you have taught him. Also, perfection may not always be feasible, and there is no harm in making mistakes, and the same goes for bringing up children. Parents are humans and may make mistakes but what is more important is to register the mistake and make amends. Do not be too harsh on yourself or your child. A family is a child’s first source of learning and thus make sure it is a good one. No one is perfect, but you can surely strive to make efforts to do the right things so that it may help in optimal growth and development of your child.

Not recommended to women with low blood sugar, as cumin decreases blood sugar levels. Though it is useful for women with high blood sugar, it can have a reverse effect on women who naturally have low blood sugar.
Women who are allergic to cumin may observe rashes on their skin, especially after consuming too much of the spice.
Dos and Don’ts:
Do not be confused between cumin seeds (jeera) and fennel seeds (saunf).
Do not add too much cumin, as it should be consumed in limited amount. Also, too much cumin makes the water bitter and hard to drink.
Drink only one litre a day
Make a fresh bottle of jeera water every day
It is best to consume jeera water when it is warm or at room temperature
Is cumin water safe during pregnancy? Yes, it is not only safe, but healthy. However, over consumption of any spice should be avoided, as they have a strong effect on the body; jeera is no exception. Drinking jeera water is the safest way to receive all the benefits, while enjoying the flavour and staying safe.

10 Things to Wear While Practising Yoga
A 5,000-year-old ancient Indian practice, yoga has become popular over the years because of its unbelievably true benefits. Doing a set of simple asanas is said to increase flexibility, strengthen muscles and rejuvenate the nervous system. Not only that- a recent study has found that yoga has great potential for providing permanent relief from obesity, diabetes, mental stress and hypertension. If you’ve made up your mind to take up this form of exercise, why not convince your partner to try couple yoga? The first question that might pop into your head would be what to wear during a yoga session. We asked a few experts on the mat, and here’s what they told us.
What to Wear before Stepping onto the Mat
For maximum benefits of the various asanas, yoga should be done first thing in the morning, or if you don’t get time, around sunset. But before starting off, make sure both of you have the recommended clothing on.
For Women:
1. Sports Bra
Well, not every regular bra is comfortable enough for doing exercises and twisting your body this way and that. So, moms, especially those with a broad bust, should invest in a good quality sports bra. These bras hold your assets in place and provide the desired support while you perform yoga. If you’re attending classes, sports bras also prevent people from seeing what they shouldn’t see.
2. Tank Top
Over the sports bra, you can choose to wear a tank top for unrestricted arm movement. Avoid loose tank tops as they may move up and expose your belly. As yoga involves upside down and angled movement, they may also obstruct your vision. If you’re not very fond of tight clothing, you can go for a tank top that is stretchable, allows you to breathe and also stays in place.
3. Long Sleeve Tops
If you don’t wish to show a lot of skin, you can wear a fitted long sleeve top over the tank top. Again, experts advise not to go for loose tops that move around a lot. You can choose a cotton or wool top with a round neckline for proper coverage during classes.
4. Tights
Tights made of stretchable and sweat-absorbent material are essential for doing yoga. That’s because such bottomwear allows you to move your legs easily and also prevents sweat patches. When it comes to length, you can wear either knee-length or full-length tights, depending on your preference.
5. Accessories
While it’s best to remove dangly and chunky jewellery before stepping onto the mat, you can go for studs and a simple elastic bracelet that suits your style. If you own a fitness tracker or smartwatch, you can slip that on too. Just be sure to keep it on silent so that it doesn’t divert your focus. To prevent your hair from falling over your eyes, you can tie it in a bun or ponytail.
6. Socks
Yoga is usually done barefoot, so you’ll be asked to leave your shoes outside the class before entering. However, some classes might allow you to keep your socks on, especially if the weather is chilly. If you’re doing the yoga asanas at home, you can cover your feet for as long as you want!
For Men:
1. Sweat-absorbent Tee
Your hubby can go for a sweat-absorbent tee easily available in the market and also online. These are made to be form-fitting, allowing men to show off their abs and biceps. We’re sure that one look is all you’ll need to fall in love with him again!
2. Regular T-shirt
In place of a sweat-absorbent tee, your partner can also go for a normal loose T-shirt. To keep it from moving, he can tuck into his bottomwear. This takes us to the next piece of yoga clothing.
3. Gym Shorts
Well-fitting underwear is a must for men who practise yoga. Over these, your man can choose to wear gym shorts, ensuring that they are neither too loose nor too tight. The ones that end mid-thigh will be perfect for doing yoga, both at home and in a class.
4. Yoga Pants
If your hubby doesn’t like the idea of wearing shorts, yoga pants are another good option. These are similar to tights, the only difference being that they’re made for men. There are also multiple variants available, so he can go for one with an elastic waistband or tieable cords.
Tips for Choosing the Right Yoga Clothing
Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.
Loose or tight, the right clothing will allow you to breathe and move your limbs freely.
If you sweat more than others, avoid wearing cotton as it weighs you down when it absorbs moisture. Instead, go for spandex or nylon.
If you already have the clothing mentioned above, there’s absolutely no need to spend on buying new yoga clothing.
Many asanas involve lifting your leg up in the air, so keep these in mind when choosing what to wear.
Lightweight, V-neck and light-coloured bras aren’t an ideal choice if you want to start yoga at a class.
Avoid light-coloured tights as they can become see-through if you sweat.
Socks may not remain steady on slippery mats, so take a call about whether to keep them on or not.
Thick-material tops and bottoms are best avoided.
Choosing the right clothing for yoga is essential as it influences how well you’re able to do the asanas. You don’t necessarily need yoga classes and any special type of clothing; in that manner, yoga costs “nothing”. That’s another great reason, apart from the immense health benefits of course, to take up yoga as a couple and also teach your child some easy-to-do asanas.

Let's Read Together - Building Habit of Reading Among Children
Kids are the most innocent creatures on this earth. Every parent wants to give their children the best start in life. And the early ages of a child is a sensitive period to start anything. I am the mother of a 1-year-old boy and being a mother, I am always worried about my son getting addicted to electronic devices (the phone or television). Technology can always be a part of life but too much of anything can be dangerous.
This is actually the best time to build good habits in your children rather than letting them watch TV or use phones. They can develop many good habits like brushing their teeth, sleeping early and the habit of reading. According to a survey, a reading habit is considered to be the healthiest one. It is never too late to start with; even paediatricians are recommending that parents start reading to their newborn child. So if you are looking for some tips to foster reading habits in your child, here are some:
Infants enjoy hearing their parents' voices; they find it very soothing and are likely to remember and relate more to their voices. So, new mothers, you can start from day one and then make it a daily routine. Your children will enjoy reading books when they grow up.
They asked a mother: “How did you persuade your child to read instead of playing with devices?" She replied: “Children don’t hear us, they imitate us.” Yes, when children see their mommy and daddy sitting and reading, they will also sit with them and read. So let your kids see your enthusiasm for reading.
It is good to make a reading space for your children. It is not necessary to have a big one; it can be a small corner or any comfy spot with good lighting.
Always explore the genres of books available in the market or online. Remember to choose books which are age-appropriate, so that kids will not lose their interest. For infants, start with picture books, as they have brightly coloured pictures and pop-up images which attract babies. For toddlers (1 to 3 years), picture books with fewer letters can be used. For pre-schoolers (3 to 5 years), stories and interactive books can help them to understand more and make reading fun.
Find reading moments in your daily life. Reading does not only mean to sit in one place and read; reading moments can be found anywhere; from reading road signs or groceries list.
There are always different ways to build good habits. I am going to follow these tips to build reading habits in my child. Are you?

Being Positive is the key to have an Active and Happy Baby.
Every pregnancy is different & every women seems to enjoy it in her own way.. On our 1st anniversary we started our family planning & within 2 months I conceived. 11th September, 5:30 am when I got to know I'm pregnant I was overjoyed. Since that day till now my husband has been my backbone & has helped with minute things also. Throughout pregnancy I witnessed no morning sickness/ vomitings or headaches but just minor weakness sometimes but major reason behind testing at home was I had missed my periods. In my 3rd month I got a bit of bleeding but since our baby was fine there was nothing to worry.
Since the day we got the news till my 8th month, everything worked quite well with me and my baby. I followed the most healthy diet possible & did my yoga daily.
Just one week before my due date the doctor said that the baby has not yet come down towards the birth canal & if same continues we'll have to do c-section (which was never in my delivery plan due to its own drawbacks)
I cried once I came back home, praying that I didn't want a surgery done & hopefully my baby comes down on time. I had 5 spoons of Castrol oil within 24 hrs & next day Tuesday evening I started getting minor pain on my lower back which occurred after every one minute but lasted only for few seconds.
I couldn't sit, sleep or walk for more than few minutes. I didnt sleep all night. Please mum's do not panic. This is the signal towards labour pain so be prepared. Wednesday, 6th May 2020 early morning 5 am when my water bag broke & I went to the hospital. As and when time passed my pain increased like hell & by 11:48 am we were blessed with a cute little baby boy who we've named RIAAN (meaning little king) with vaginal delivery at Grace Maternity, Mumbai. I knew I was in best & safest hands.
My pregnancy has been a special journey for me. He gave me no extra pain & smoothly made his way out into the world. I did feel tired while in labour and have got 4 stitches near my vagina but later when the doctor said that more than me, my baby has tried harder to come out it made me feel proud thinking he's strong enough to come out on his own.
I don't know what helped me make it through a normal delivery but I believe it was truly magical.
My only advice to every women (who is pregnant at moment or is planning one) reading this that just maintain positivity and whatever you think will happen. I always planned of having normal delivery and always spoke to my baby about being calm and strong. Talk to your baby as much possible and create the special bond from beginning.
I have enjoyed every moment of having him within & currently enjoying every bit of motherhood too.
No matter what always keep this in your mind- "It's all worth it at the end" trust me. When you hold your newborn for the first time you will forget all the pain and will just want to live that moment completely. ❤️ Read more

A. I think it’s better that you have a sonography with your doctor because this way even I cannot suggest you because you’ve got both the test so how can we sure about what the result is going to be going to be for you to check with your doctor regarding this as sonography can actually clear the picture for you

A. Saint Line usually means positive only but for further more if you want to go ahead with a clarity on that then you can get a beta HCG on an ultrasound with your doctor because one line is usually visible and second is faint right so it is positive
