List of 10 Different Types of Pregnancy
Pregnancy seems like a simple term. However, there are different kinds of pregnancy that one needs to be aware of. There are various reasons ranging from physical differences between women to multiple egg release among others. Read on to find out more about different kinds of pregnancies in women.
Different Pregnancy Types
1. Intrauterine Pregnancy
Normal pregnancies where the foetus or foetuses are implanted inside the uterus. The placenta is attached to the inside of the uterus to the uterine muscle.
2. Molar Pregnancy
Molar pregnancies are of two kinds- complete and partial. Complete molar pregnancies occur when the placenta is formed in the uterus without a foetus to support. Partial molar pregnancies result when two sperms fertilize one egg, however, two foetuses don’t develop. The placenta is not normal with the foetus having too many chromosomes. This eventually leads to a spontaneous abortion as the foetus cannot develop in a safe and healthy manner.
3. Ectopic or Tubal Pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg implants itself somewhere other than the fallopian tube or uterus. It could implant itself in the neck of the uterus or in the abdomen. The situation is not very safe and eventually leads to the abortion of the foetus.
Tubal pregnancies, on the other hand, occur when the fertilized egg implants itself in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus. Again, such a pregnancy is considered unsafe and needs to be terminated if the miscarriage does not occur naturally.
4. Intra-Abdominal Pregnancy
Most intra-abdominal pregnancies follow after cesarean delivery. The scar left behind after a C-section may weaken and tear, allowing the foetus to slip into the abdominal cavity. The practicality of the pregnancy will depend on the gestational age of the foetus at the occurrence of the tear. Some intra-abdominal pregnancies remain undetected and can complete a full term. However, a complete hysterectomy may be needed after birth.
5. Singlet Pregnancy
Singlet pregnancy is when one egg meets one sperm, and only one foetus develops.
6. Multiple Pregnancy
Multiple pregnancies occur as a result of multiple eggs being fertilized at the same time. This occurs when two sperms fertilize one or two eggs, or when one egg is fertilized by one sperm and then divides into two zygotes. Fraternal twins result when more than one egg is fertilized or if one egg is fertilized by two sperms. If one egg splits into multiple zygotes, identical twins will be born. Fertility treatments may result in five or more fertilized and implanted foetuses.
7. Lupus Pregnancy
Lupus is an auto-immune disease which can be complicated for pregnant women and can be further complicated by blood clotting.
8. Biochemical Pregnancy
A clinical term, it means pregnancy loss that occurs shortly after implantation. It generally occurs before an ultrasound can detect the heartbeat of a foetus. The egg gets implanted in the uterus but is unable to grow for a reason.
9. Breech Birth
If the baby’s position is head-up in the uterus with the buttocks or feet close to the cervix, it is termed as a breech pregnancy. Most babies are breech at the start of pregnancy and turn to the headfirst position closer to the due date. Breech birth can be divided into the complete breech, frank breech and incomplete breech (footling breech).
10. High-Risk Pregnancy
Women aged over 35, diabetic, pregnant with multiples and other health condition that could affect pregnancy fall under the high-risk pregnancy category. In some cases, if medication is required to control medical conditions, the pregnancy could be termed as high-risk. A history of any prior complications in childbirth could also lead to high-risk pregnancies.

Busting Breastfeeding Myths Sarcastically - Winning a Battle Everyday with Some Humour
As if pregnancy and then having a baby isn’t tough enough, you have these 'well-meaning' MILs/aunts/neighbours who always have to add their 10 cents to everything you do, especially breastfeeding. Some comebacks to their statements, few of them I’ve actually used myself, are as follows:
1. "Baby is always crying, your milk isn’t enough."
"You are always whining, haven’t you eaten enough?"
2. "Your milk isn’t enough for your baby."
"Did he say that to you? Little cookie speaks to everyone except me!"
3. "Your baby isn’t drinking milk because he doesn’t like the taste."
"But my husband tasted it first-hand last night and he said it’s good enough, would you like a taste test too?"
4. "Formula is better than your milk."
"Sure. My mother cooks better food than you do."
5. "Your milk isn’t thick enough."
"Oh damn, I forgot to churn it well, let me try making lassi next time and see if it’s thick or not."
6. "You drink too much water, your milk is too watery."
"Your tongue is too slippery."
7. "Don’t wear a bra, your breasts won’t produce enough milk."
"Gravity is a pain and it’s for real."
8. "My son would sleep after drinking my milk through the night."
"You mean you want me to try nursing him to see if he sleeps through the night still?"
9. "Your wife’s milk isn’t enough for the baby."
"Did you measure it for her?"
10. "My MIL wouldn’t let me nurse my son till she checked if I’ve got milk or not."
"Don’t worry your son has acquired his grandma's trait, he does it for me!"
11. "You should cover your breasts when you nurse."
"You should shut your eyes when you eat."
12. "Did you pump only so much? It’s not enough!"
"For whom? Please go to the dairy and buy paneer, I’m not giving you my milk for that."
13. "We gave you gripe water and you never cried and slept well."
"Should we try if it works on you at this age?"
14. "Your baby is 1 year old now, stop nursing him to sleep, he’s getting addicted."
"Speaking of addiction, have you considered rehab?"
15. "My daughter's milk was so white, yours is yellowish."
"Oh yeah, I had too much turmeric yesterday."
16. "You need to have coconut milk to increase your milk supply."
"My baby will make milk in lesser time than you will take to extract that coconut milk."
17. "You are drinking alcohol? Don’t you know it will harm your baby?"
"Well you seem to be alive in spite of all that alcohol you’ve been drinking directly, it’s my baby’s weekend fix."
