Best Health Benefits of Papaya for Your Baby
Besides packing in a punch of nutrients and vitamins, there are plenty of papaya benefits for babies. Papaya for 5 month old baby is not recommended despite its many benefits and ideally it should be introduced only after 7 or 8 months. Here are some things papaya can do for your child’s health:
1. Boosts Digestion
The enzyme papain present in this fleshy fruit is useful in breaking down complex food structures. Regular consumption of papaya can improve your child’s digestion capabilities significantly.
2. Enhances Immunity
A baby’s immune system is not as developed as that of an adult, which makes them susceptible to infections and ailments. The Vitamin C in papaya boosts your child’s immunity and helps prevent sickness.
3. Useful in Healing Skin Sores
The abundance of Vitamin A in papaya keeps skin protected from burns, ulcers and sores. Papaya skin or pulp can also be applied topically on minor burns and rashes. This will help reduce the burning sensation.
4. Improves Metabolism
Papayas are a rich source of folates, which are necessary for the production of amino acids. This can, to some extent, lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases in adulthood.belly ache in babies.
5. Ensures Regular Bowel Movement
The fibre content of papaya acts as a natural laxative and can ensure consistent bowel movements in your baby. The use of papaya for constipation in babies is a time-tested remedy.
6. Gets Rid of Intestinal Worms
Two spoons of a mixture of dried and powdered papaya seeds combined with honey can help do away with intestinal worms. This is due to the presence of the enzyme cysteine proteinases.
7. Good for the Eyes
Vitamin A in papaya helps promote good vision and prevent problems such as night blindness.
8. Promotes Red Blood Cells
The presence of iron helps maintain good haemoglobin levels and a stable red blood cell count.
Precautions to Take When Feeding Papayas to a Baby
As with any new food, you need to introduce papaya to your baby slowly and carefully. See how your baby likes the taste of the fruit and how their digestion is after consuming it. Start off with a small amount and slowly increase it over a few days. Some other things to keep in mind before you feed papaya to your baby include the following:
See that the fruit is ripe enough to consume. Unripe papayas can cause stomach aches and cramps.
Limit the quantity to a couple of tablespoons since too much of papaya can also cause a belly ache in babies.
Make sure to stop if your baby doesn’t like papaya or has any kind of discomfort or reaction after consuming the fruit.
Easy Papaya Recipes for Your Baby
Even babies need some variety in their meals and this is why you should use papaya in different ways while cooking for your baby. But the papaya you use for your baby food needs to be ripe and just right. Here are some tips to buy the right papayas:
Don’t buy papayas that are green and hard because these will take time to ripen and may even get bad before that happens Only those, which have yellow patches on them when plucked off the tree, will eventually ripen.
Papayas that are ready to eat will have an orange colour with a little bit of red in it. It will be firm but soft when pressure is applied and will have a mild, sweet fragrance.
Too much fragrance means the fruits have over ripened and will spoil soon. If planning to use the papaya after a few days, then go for the ones with yellow patches.
Apart from regular papaya puree for babies, here are some great papaya baby food recipes for you to try out:
1. Papaya Mash
Ingredients: You will need one ripe papaya
Method:
Peel and de-seed a ripe papaya before you cut it into big cubes.
Simply mash or make a puree in a blender as smoothly as you want according to your baby’s preference.
The papaya chunks can be first steamed if you want them softened up a bit for quicker digestion.
2. Cantaloupe and Papaya Milkshake for Babies
Ingredients:
2 tbsp natural yogurt or 1/4 cup milk
1 tbsp diced watermelon or cantaloupe
1 tbsp diced papaya
Cut the fruits into big pieces and put them in a blender along with the yogurt to make a smoothie and with milk to make a milkshake.
3. Fruity Breakfast Treat
Ingredients:
2 tbsp oatmeal prepared in advance
1 tbsp papaya; can be pureed or diced
1/2 sliced small banana
Just blend all the ingredients to give your baby a healthy start to the day.
Papaya is a delicious and nutritious food when ripe. It can be eaten as is or used along with a variety of other fruits to make delicious dishes. Avocados, apples, bananas, peaches, carrots, yogurt and chicken are just some of the foods that go well with papaya in baby food recipes.

When Can Baby Hear - Newborn Hearing Development
The development of your baby’s ability to hear can be extremely important, this is because hearing is one of the senses that help your baby communicate. Your baby begins to listen to sounds and mimic them, thus, developing their ability to speak. They also listen to the sound of a parent for comfort. Hearing is actually one of the cornerstones of a baby's development, this doesn’t mean that your baby won’t grow if they can’t hear but it does mean they grow faster if they can.
How will your Baby React to Sound?
The first sense that your baby develops is hearing. In fact, it is a known fact that babies develop their hearing ability even before being born, this is one of the reasons a lot of parents play music or talk to their baby when they’re still in the womb. Your baby’s ability to react to sound has been developing for months before their birth and can be fully developed as early as a month after they are born. Even though their hearing is fully developed within the first month, your baby may only start to respond to sounds much later. You can also expect them to react to sounds in different ways, for instance, humming to your child while putting them to sleep can stop them from crying, the same can be said about when you have conversations with them.
How to Know if your Baby is Clearly Hearing or Not?
The process to understand if your baby is hearing clearly or not is done through a screening process, this screening is actually done when you’re baby is still in the hospital right after the delivery. If you are unsure of whether your baby can hear clearly or not, talk to your doctor, they will share the results of your baby’s auditory screening and if needed run another screening to ensure they can hear correctly.
When do Babies Start Hearing after Birth?
One of the most difficult questions to answer is when can your baby hear sounds for the first time, this is because the development of your child’s hearing, as mentioned is developed within the womb, the exact time they begin to hear is hard to estimate as it is case specific but you will notice if that they can hear sounds as they will kick in your belly more consistently when they hear a familiar sound, the voice of your partner can cause a reaction for instance. After birth, your baby’s hearing develops at an extremely rapid pace and will fully be developed between 4-7 weeks.
Baby Hearing Development
Monitoring your baby’s hearing development can be important for the first year after birth, here is a rough timeline of what you can expect in their hearing development.
0-2 months – Your baby’s hearing has fully developed, they may not respond to the sounds but through screenings done by your doctor, you can monitor her growth. This is around when they can clearly hear high-pitched sounds.
3 months – This is approximately when you can expect your baby to have some form of reaction to sounds, this is usually in the form of sound mimicking, you can expect them to gurgle or coo in response to your voice or other sounds. This is their way of trying to develop speech patterns as well.
6 months – This hearing milestone is when your baby will be more responsive to the subtler sounds, they may try mimicking sounds that aren’t familiar.
12 months – The final milestone for hearing, your baby can now recognize and respond to the most subtle or understated sounds. Expect them to even recognize their favourite songs or cartoon voices at this stage.
Things you can Do to Develop your Newborn's Hearing
There are always methods to help you develop your newborn baby’s hearing, here are a few tips to help you do that:
Have your baby around conversations, ask your partner to converse with them constantly and you should do the same as well.
Play calm, relaxing music, preferably instrumental, smooth jazz is known to help develop acoustic senses, calm your child down and develop their hearing, western classical music is also commonly known to have a similar effect.
Your partner and you should constantly sing to them or read to them, a newborn relaxes when they hear the voice of their parents.
When your baby is old enough, get them toys that are musical.
Observe your baby and emphasize on any sound that they are attracted to. If they hear an aeroplane in the sky, look at them and acknowledge that you heard it too.
How can you Tell Whether the Sound is Too Loud for your Infant?
This can be tricky to begin with, it takes a baby approximately 3 months to be able to react to sounds, during the first 3 months, it is recommended that you keep loud sounds at bay as much as possible. After the 3rd month, your baby will react to sounds that are too loud by crying, as they grow their response to sounds that are too loud can be more and more unique. Some children after the age of six months can cry, some may get startled and become very quiet. If they can move, some children may try moving away from the loud noises.
Factors Affecting Infant's Hearing
There are many factors that can affect your baby’s hearing, here are some:
Constant Exposure to Loud Noises
Lack of Oxygen During Birth
Premature Delivery
Genetic Disorders
Exposure to Infections Like Rubella During Pregnancy
Blunt Force Trauma to the Head
Ear Infections
Damage to the Eardrums Caused By Q-Tips or Earbuds
Exposure to Fireworks
High Fevers
In the situation your child is exposed to these factors, it may impair their hearing either temporarily or permanently.
Hearing Screening Test for Infants
It is now the norm for most hospitals to run routine screenings for hearing soon after the birth of your baby, once you have recovered to some extent from the delivery, you can consult your doctor to know the result of your baby’s auditory screening. If they haven’t yet done it, ensure they do before you leave the hospital. After getting home, using the guidelines provided above, you can run a baby hearing test at home by monitoring their reactions to sounds at regular intervals and comparing them to the hearing development milestone mentioned earlier.
When to Worry about your Newborn's Hearing?
A general rule of thumb for your baby’s hearing is to understand that they have already begun hearing after birth. If your baby fails their screening at the hospital or is struggling to reach their hearing development milestones, you may need to seek medical advice.
Babies have a fully developed auditory system within 1-2 months after birth. With the tips mentioned above, you can sharpen their hearing and derive the most from it.

A little twist to your old sari and your look can transform to quirky and cool in no time. The trick to remember when you're wondering how to reuse old sarees is to choose designs that can be easily upgraded to make a bold fashion statement.
Mastering the Art of Old Saree Recycling
There are many uses of old sarees that can help you not just save and keep your favourite sarees, but also turn them into useful utility items! Here are some such DIY saree ideas.
1. From Saree to Scarf
If you rummage through your mom’s collection of sarees, you might unearth some gems. Sarees in simple yet elegant prints will make for great scarves. If you come across old sarees in bright colours and bold patterns, cut them into square shapes to create modern scarves. Make sure you cut in wide strips and give it a lace edging to finish.
2. Get a Jhola Bag
Reusing of old sarees can get you a cool but functional handbag. Use a cotton saree with bold colours and prints for the body of the bag. Place sheets of the fabric together and stitch up the sides. Add a long strap that sits comfortably over the shoulder. If you know how to work a sewing machine, you can also add pockets and a zipper to the bag. This bag will not only be distinctive but also help you stash a lot of essential items.
3. Recycling Sarees for Your Tech Gadgets
Forget spending money on expensive sleeves for your tablets or laptops. Pick a silk saree for a luxe effect and cut out a wide patch of the material. Make srue it is at least twice as long as the size of your gadget. Give it a fold and stitch the sides neatly. You can add a few colourful buttons or drawstring fastening at the end to ensure security. Easy as that!
4. Pretty Curtains for Your Home
How about turning old sarees into cute curtains for your home? The lighter the saree, the better curtains they make as they allow breeze and sunlight to come in through the window. Select a saree with interesting prints and colours that complement your room decor. If your saree is heavy, use it to make winter curtains to keep your home warm.
5. Make Hair Clips
Guess what, you can recycle old sarees to make your hair clips quirkier! Unbelievable as this sounds, all you need to do is cut out three circles from a synthetic silk sari, each smaller than the other. Then cut small separating slits that point towards the centre of each circle. For a flower petal look, crimp the circles by placing them 2 inches away over a candle. Finally, layer the pieces of fabric together and thread a hair pin or wire through the centre of your masterpiece.
6. Ethnic Cushion Covers to Beautify Your Living Room
Your living room is the first reflection of how the rest of your house is going to look like. If you are thinking of revamping your living room, a great idea would be to start with changing the cushion covers, and once again, your old saree will come to the rescue. Since they have a good length, one saree can be used to make quite a few cushion covers. Use sarees with borders, embroidery and ethnic work to make the covers look elegant and pretty.
7. Create Quirky Quilts
Well, this one will require some hard work and serious efforts, but in the end it's all worth it! Make use of your cotton and brocade sarees to turn them into patchwork quilts. Trust us, you will thank yourself in the winters for this! These quilts can also be used as a great gifting option.
8. Add Some Creativity to Your Bedroom with Bed Canopies
If you are bored of how your bedroom looks, then you could definitely do with adding some colour to it. Bed canopies are in vogue and if you want to add a bit of indo-modern look, make them using your old sarees. The length is perfect and not only do they beautify but also add a romantic and luxurious feel to the decor.
9. Hang Some Wall Hangings on That White Wall
If you have an empty wall in the house and you've been wondering what to do with it, you could decorate it instead of spending a ton to get it painted. Simply take out a fancy saree that you no longer use, pin in tightly on a plain canvas and hang it. Voila! You have your very own boho wall hanging masterpiece!
10. Create Some Table Clothes
Another great and fairly simple use of your old saree is to make pretty table covers out of them. Be it a kitty party or a family get together, your table must look pretty. Just cut an old embroidered saree and spread it over the dinner table and be prepared to be showered with compliments.
These craft ideas on 'how to reuse old sarees' can get your creativity flowing, besides helping you make functional accessories. All you need is a little time, a lot of patience, and a wardrobe to raid. Get started already we say! Read more

Early speech and language skills: a speech language pathologist perspective; first stage for parental screening.
Early stages of speech and language development is important for children. As an expert in the field of speech language pathology and mother of one year old child, I think it's really important to discuss speech and language skills of children in this platform. I do see parents coming at 4 year or later in life of their child mentioning their child is not speaking up to the age. When we collect the history of child; the child had a delay at early stages, which was neglected by parents and wait and see approach has been taken, resulting speech and language disorder or delay in later life of child. I personally and professionally do not support this WAIT and SEE APPROACH; as it's limiting a child's beautiful speaking and learning skills. Thus, hereby I am mentioning few key points for parents to check their speech and language skills up to 6months;
1. At very early stage only you can see your child giving sudden response like an eye blink or a startle movement to loud noises/ sounds; which improve to attending speaker's voice by maintaining eye to eye contact, then as they slowly attaining head control your child will slowly move head towards the sound source with more and more accuracy, further giving bodily responses like smiling or pleasurable body movements to familiar voices.
This is completely on child's listening ability up to six months of age.
2. Crying the first expression of your child's need. This cry will slowly changes in different tone or loud, which will help the mother or caretaker to realize your child is crying for a feed or a nap. Now it's not just crying, definitely they will be making pleasurable sounds, which could be aaa, eee, ouu, a laugh, or some sound from their throat glll, glaa, ahh, gr..might be any, which not only seen during their solo play, also when we talk or sing to them they give responses with these sounds. The above mentioned are your child's expression based skills.
Even if your child is full term healthy baby or a preterm low birth weight baby, your child's speech and language skills are completely based on their stimulation at home. When there are some or more complications you faced at early stage then more intensive stimulation required at later stages. It's completely based on play and talk process. But the way you PLAY and the way you TALK matters.

A. White spots on the body and face could be there sometimes, which maybe because of fungal infection or some conditions like pityriasis alba or some other factors some conditions are aggravated by dry skiniu, show a proper mousturisation is required. Also, maintain a proper hygiene and a proper assessment should be done to rule out any other causative factor
