Baby Crying While Bathing - Know Why Your Child Hates Bath
Bathing is an ideal way to start or end your baby’s day. In addition to the hygiene requirement, a good relaxing bath will soothe your baby and put them to a comfortable sleep.
However, babies don’t enjoy bathing all the time, and there might be several reasons why your baby resists and cries while bathing.
Why Do Babies Cry during Bath and What Can You Do About It?
If you are wondering why a newborn hates the bath, the following are the reasons why your baby might not be comfortable getting into the water and the solution to change this situation:
1. The flow of Water into the Eyes
Toddlers are not savvy with the concept of shutting their eyelids as a reflex to avoid foreign bodies from getting into the eyes. The continuous flow of water can be an irritant and make the baby cry.
What Can You Do?
Use a head visor to protect the eyes and avoid pouring too much water on the face.
2. Rashes or Sores that Burn
If your baby is suffering from rashes or sores, contact with water and soap can alleviate the burning sensation and can sting, resulting in discomfort to the child.
What You Can Do?
Avoid applying soap and excessive water on affected areas and wait until the rashes subside to begin full bathing regime.
3. Uncomfortable Water Temperature
Perhaps this is the most common reason why do toddlers hate bath. Newborns are highly sensitive to change in temperature and water that is too cold or too hot can make them instantly uncomfortable. Body temperature, which is around 37 degree Celsius is the best temperature to bathe your baby.
What Can You Do?
Check the temperature of the water by using your elbow or use a thermometer to have an accurate reading. Dip your baby slowly into the water to allow them to get used to it.
4. Hunger
Hunger could be another reason for your baby to cry while bathing. If the baby is not properly fed, it is likely to irritate, especially while bathing.
What Can You Do?
It is essential to feed the baby and wait for 30 minutes to 45 minutes before taking them to a bath to allow the food to get digested.
5. Fear of Soap
Selecting the right soap for your toddler is crucial. Soaps might cause skin irritation, or the child might have a fear of soap entering the eyes and creating a burning sensation.
What Can You Do?
Consulting a doctor is the best way to assess your little one's skin type and the soap that will be most suited for the same. Use soaps and shampoo’s specially made for toddlers and avoid using those made for adults.
6. Baby is Already Tired
While bathing is supposed to relax the child, it might be counter-productive if the kid is already too tired and ready to sleep, especially if the bath routine is just before bedtime.
What Can You Do?
Try to advance the bathing routine to a little before the usual bed-time. This will not disturb your baby’s sleeping routine.
7. Unaccustomed to Water
Everything is a first time experience for a newborn and bathing is no different. The feel of water touching the skin might make the baby uncomfortable.
What Can You Do?
Get the baby used to water by starting with sponge baths and slowly progressing to regular bathing schedule.
8. Uncomfortable Bathing Area
Things which might seem immaterial to us can be a cause of concern for the babies. The temperature of your hand when you hold the baby, the room temperature in the bathroom, the presence of dust, allergens in the bathing area can all lead to the baby getting irritated and in turn starting to hate bath time.
What Can You Do?
Ensure that the bathing area is warm and free of dust. Make sure to warm your hands before holding the baby.
Nothing trumps the comfort and safety of your child. It is therefore critical to be cautious and sensitive towards the baby while bathing. Like all other things, your child will get used to this slowly and hence sufficient time should be given to the baby before getting too anxious about their reaction to water.
However, if the baby continues to remain defiant during bath time, it is best to consult a doctor on possible reasons for the reaction and the most viable solution for the same.

Does Ovulation Occur during Pregnancy?
When keeping yourself up to date with various aspects around pregnancy, you may come across scenarios or articles in various magazines or on the internet, which talk about a woman getting pregnant with another child when she was already pregnant with one. Rarely does anyone take this seriously, but it might make a question arise in your mind does ovulation occur during pregnancy in real life? Does that mean you will have more than one baby?
Can a Woman Ovulate During Pregnancy?
A straightforward answer to the possibility of ovulation while being pregnant is a simple no. In scientific terms, ovulation is the process where the ovaries release an egg during a menstruation cycle. This egg then makes it away through the fallopian tube and, if a sperm is present there, it will end up being fertilized by it. A fertilized egg then finds its way to the uterus where it awaits an implantation by removal of the outer lining. This shedding of the lining is what constitutes your period.
When you are already pregnant, the body is aware of this and does not undertake any processes to release the egg or proceed with ovulation. The uterus, tubes and ovaries all form part of the same system, so the presence of an embryo automatically triggers these processes to shut down. The uterine lining is held in its place to support the growing baby and you won’t have any more periods during your pregnancy.
What If The Ovulation Test Shows a Positive Result?
Despite this science, you might come across various cases in magazines or articles or you might experience one yourself that shows you that you were ovulating even when you are pregnant. This usually happens when the ovulation test turns out positive and later tests reveal that you are already pregnant.
One thing that ought to be remembered is that, just like a pregnancy test, the ovulation tests, too, work on the presence of a hormone. These tests do not actually check whether the ovaries are releasing an egg or not. And since hormones undergo a substantial change when pregnancy sets in, those levels might be a little too high, triggering the test to reveal positive result for ovulation.
Therefore, a presence of a positive result to your ovulation test might purely be a result of hormonal fluctuations or even a fault test for that matter. In certain cases, your body might just be on the verge of getting pregnant or, unfortunately, on the verge of a miscarriage.
What If You Had Period while Pregnant?
Along with ovulation, another worry that might plague pregnant mothers is to wonder whether a period can occur while you are pregnant. This, too, does not have any basis in science. Periods, as mentioned earlier, are a result of shedding the lining of the uterus since there is no fertilized egg to house in it. Once you are pregnant, the uterus lining needs to stay put so that the embryo has the support to grow safely and develop into a proper foetus.
That being said, there are chances you might spot a few drops of blood or light bleeding while you are pregnant. But this is quite different from the blood you usually see in your menstrual cycles and this bleeding is a result of many other factors. If the bleeding does feel thick and unusual, it might be an indication of a problem and it is necessary to let your doctor know immediately about it.
Ovulation while being pregnant is not a possibility since our biological processes are oriented in such a way to shut off the ovulation cycle once the uterus has a fertilized egg to take care of. The only way to absolutely be sure of an ovulation is to undergo intensive tests that check for multiple follicles or ultrasounds that determine if an egg has been released. The usual ovulation tests measure hormonal levels, which can very easily fluctuate during pregnancy. Therefore, it is best to put this question to rest and enjoy your newfound pregnancy with zest.

Does Your Baby Need a Play Gym? These 4 Reasons Are Too Good To Ignore!
Why would a baby need a gym? Is this one of those fashionable trends that are out to get poor unsuspecting mothers to sign up or is there some real substance behind baby-gyms? Find out why it may be a good idea to get a baby play gym now!
Physical exercise is essential for babies. Baby play gyms are important activity tools that keep your baby occupied in a variety of ways. They help your little one grow and develop in the years to come.
What Is A Baby Play Gym?
Before you start imagining rooms with machines for exercise, baby play gyms do not resemble adult gym or workout rooms at all! A baby play gym is a soft mat with two arches on either side, from which you can dangle toys overhead. Some gyms have lights, mirrors, baby pianos or tummy pillows to engage your baby in a variety of activities.
Benefits of Using A Baby Play Gym
Getting your baby to use a baby play gym may be the wisest choice you make. They have major developmental benefits for your baby such as:
1. Enhances His Motor Skills
Babies develop motor skills when they use baby play gyms. The toys that dangle from the arches of a baby gym encourage the baby to reach out and grasp them. Also, the baby starts kicking his legs when he is visually attracted to the toys, or the mirrors that reflect their faces, or the sounds that come from the baby piano. Reaching, kicking and grasping help in muscle development around the legs, arms, neck and stomach.
2. Improves His Hand Eye Coordination
Baby gyms also help in hand-eye coordination that helps the baby focus on the object and bring together both hands at the mid-line of the body. Continuous use of a baby gym will improve this reflex and help them develop the fine motor skills that are required for overall development. ||
3. Boosts His Cognitive Development
The hanging toys from the gym are specifically designed to improve the imagination of babies. Sounds, shapes, colours and textures stimulate mental and cognitive development in babies. Regular usage will help the baby recognize different colours, patterns and textures. Some gyms have mirrors attached to them which make the baby see his own face and recognize himself. Baby play gyms speed up the baby’s self-discovery and mental development as compared to those babies who do not use them.
4. Develops His Visual and Sensory Skills
As babies reach out to grab toys, they also learn to focus on objects thereby improving their visual perception. The sense of vision is stimulated and encouraged with regular use of baby play gyms. Although the baby’s vision is blurred at birth, continuous usage from birth till 6 months will see a remarkable improvement in the baby’s visual perception and coordination. Baby play gyms also have mirrors and sounds such as piano keys attached. These help improve self-awareness and sensory stimulation to sound and touch.
Are Play Gyms Safe?
As a parent, you may be concerned about the safety of your baby while using a play gym. However, be rest assured. Baby play gyms are designed especially for babies and are completely safe and fun. They are made with soft mats below that are cushioned and will not cause the slightest injury to even the youngest of infants.
There are plenty of varieties of baby play gyms available in the market. So go ahead, chose a good baby play gym that has a lot to offer to your baby! Go here to check out a myriad of cute, colorful and economical play gyms that your baby won't get enough of!

How to Avoid Strangulation and Suffocation?
Safety at home is equally important as outside. Yet accidents do have a way of happening in the most unexpected moments. Here is how you can avoid unpleasant events concerning your babies or at least be ready to handle them with diligence when they occur.
You might be surprised, but Asphyxia (which also includes choking and strangulation) is usually the most common cause of child accident deaths. Children under 5 are the most prone to it. Strangulation or suffocation can leave an after-effect on your toddler’s health, and also on his psyche. In the worst case, it could end up in loss of life. Yes, that’s scary, and that is why you should take precautions around your home to ensure there is no cause that can lead to your little one getting strangled.
Tips to Avoid Strangulation
Don't leave any drawstrings attached to the clothes of the baby; make sure you have cut them all before the baby wears the dress. You should not leave any strings attached to the hood or as an accessory.
Make sure there is no pacifier around the baby’s neck. Never attach pacifier to baby’s clothing with a string or ribbon.
Don't let any wires reach the floor and make sure you remove the tassels and the strings attached to your curtains or windows.
Do not let any wires dangle onto the floor, or be accessible for your toddler. You also need to keep in mind the height where he/she reaches when you carry him.
Cut their food into very small pieces as they do not have strong teeth to chew them. Avoid giving them toffees, marshmallows, grapes, nuts or candies.
Read the instructions on toys before buying them for your child. Keep the age group in mind and only then buy something. Most of the clay toys and small dolls are not for children below 36 months.
The baby’s toys should not have too much fur that comes out from the toy. This fur can get stuck in the baby’s mouth or cause breathing problems.
How to Avoid Suffocation
Babies will only sleep peacefully when they get a safe environment, so make sure you use a baby cot or crib for their sleeping. More often than not babies have risk of their own parents suffocating them sometimes because of the weight or even by holding the baby too tight. The adult blankets are also too heavy for the baby and he might not be able to breathe or push it away.
Do not cover their faces while they are asleep. Avoid using room heater very close to their face.
Babies have a fixation for putting everything in their mouth and not leave the object easily. Nappy sacks are very thin, so they can easily cling to the face of a baby as he breathes in.
As babies move around fearlessly, sometimes their heads can get stuck in a small nook or corner of a furniture or in between furnitures.
Plastic bags can be very risky as babies can pull it over their face and can get stuck. They can also roll over the bed and get stuck in plastic. Make sure all the plastic bags are stored away from your babies, in a closed cabinet.
Do not throw used plastic bags on the floor or cover their pillows with plastic sheet.
Make sure you cover the small things or keep your baby away from furniture that has pointed edges. Better yet, babyproof your furniture.
You can keep a few phone numbers handy; like that of a doctor, close neighbours and friends who can help you. Keep a first aid kit and make sure that you have all the regularly used medicines.
You cannot dump all the furniture from your house, but you can always make sure that the living room of the child has a healthy environment to play and grow. The best that you can do is supervising your child when he is awake; more so after he starts to walk. However, sometimes things do happen, but with a quick response, you will be able to handle any situation. Read more
