Chances of Getting Pregnant After an HSG (Hysterosalpingogram) Test
Childbirth is one of the greatest joys in life. Ask new parents and they will affirm this feeling. The feeling of holding a newborn in your arms for the first time is simply amazing. Euphoria is the word that best describes those tender moments. If you have recently become parents, we are sure you can understand what we are saying.
Unfortunately, there are some couples who don't get to experience this joy. They are unable to conceive and get pregnant even after trying repeatedly. The causes of infertility are many but so are the treatments for infertility. One such treatment option is the HSG.
What Is a Hysterosalpingogram?
A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is a procedure that uses an x-ray to check a woman's uterus and to see if the fallopian tubes are clear. This x-ray procedure involves administering an iodine dye via the cervix into the uterus to take pictures. The whole procedure takes less than 10 minutes and there is nothing to worry about.
Can You Get Pregnant After an HSG Test?
In the HSG test, a dye, usually iodine, is injected into the uterus of the woman via the cervix and then X-ray images are taken. The dye reaches the fallopian tubes and provides clearer pictures to the doctor. This enables them to pinpoint the cause of infertility with greater accuracy. If there are any injuries or blockages occurring in the tubes, it shows up in the images taken afterwards. This makes it easy to find the reason for infertility, and treat it accordingly.
While the HSG test is primarily for diagnostic purposes, it has been observed that it increases the chances of getting pregnant naturally in infertile women. The pregnancy rate after an HSG test is believed to be around 2 to 3 times higher than in women who have not undergone this test before. The test itself is not a treatment for infertility; it is done to merely understand the reasons for infertility. But many women get pregnant after undergoing this test. The reasons for the same are not known though. Getting pregnant after undergoing the HSG test, therefore, may simply be a coincidence. It may also be due to some unknown reason in the procedure of carrying out the test. While HSG tests are not a treatment for infertility in any way, infertile women have a greater chance of getting pregnant after taking this test. Therefore, it is definitely worth a shot.
An HSG Test With a Water-Based or Oil-Based Contrast
A part of the test involves injecting dye into the uterus of the woman via her cervix. This is done so that the X-ray becomes clearer, and the doctor can identify any potential harm or injury that has occurred within the cervix. The technician will be able to see the uterine shape much more clearly, after injecting the dye into the uterus. However, there is another function for this contrast, it is tubal flushing. Tubal flushing means that the dye injected also does the job of clearing any blockages on the way to the fallopian tubes, making it easier for sperm to swim over to the ovum. This helps the sperm fertilize the egg and increases the chances of pregnancy. If tubal flushing is carried out as a therapeutic measure, there is no need to take the X-ray afterwards. Tubal flushing can be carried out either with water-soluble, oil-soluble, or combined contrasts.
There's no stark improvement in pregnancy rates when a water-soluble contrast or combined contrast is used. However, using the oil-soluble contrast can lead to pregnancy. Couples who had undergone this procedure, their odds increased by around 25%.
If you have doubts regarding the health of your uterus while undergoing this procedure, then we have answered some common questions that most couples have. Read on -
1. Can an X-Ray Affect Eggs?
The x-ray does not affect the eggs in any way, as the eggs are always in a state of maturation arrest before the fertilization occurs. When the X-ray procedure is carried out, there is very less radiation that passes through the body of the female and it does not damage the eggs in any way. It also doesn't harm the growing foetus.
2. Can the Dye Harm the Eggs, Embryo, or the Foetus?
The dye may harm the foetus if injected during pregnancy. However, it does not harm the eggs or the embryo in any way. The dye is also cleared out of the uterus quickly so that no harm occurs to the foetus that may be present in the uterus at the time of the HSG test.
Why Does an HSG Test Increase the Chances of Pregnancy?
The process of injecting a dye into the uterus of a woman is meant to help in getting clearer X-rays or images of the woman's uterus and fallopian tubes, but it can even contribute to fertilization. When the dye moves to the fallopian tubes, it removes any blockages which may have occurred in the path and clears the way for the sperm to reach the fallopian tubes. This is called tubal flushing and it can help increase the chances of conception.
How Long Does It Take to Get Pregnant After an HSG Test?
The chances of conception increase by around 25% in couples for up to three months after the test is conducted. Therefore, couples will have to try to get pregnant for 3 months after the test. Although this test helps most women get pregnant, it is not a treatment for infertility. One should check with a doctor if they are unable to get pregnant even after trying for days and months.
As the injected dye helps clear blockages within the uterus, it makes an easier path for the sperm to reach the ovum, thereby increasing the chances of pregnancy. Thus tubal flushing is definitely worth a shot for couples who are trying to get pregnant. You can consider this test but try other options too. HSG tests are meant to be diagnostic tools to help doctors understand the problem in a woman and they can or cannot lead to pregnancy. So don't lose hope if you don't get pregnant after undergoing this test. Try for fertility treatments and soon you will have your little one in your arms!

Braces for Kids Teeth - Types, Care Tips and Cost
In your childhood, or even now, you may have seen kids wearing braces, even some of them who seem to have perfect teeth. This might make you wonder if your own child needs braces once his teeth start showing up. Installing children’s orthodontic braces is an important decision and needs a proper understanding of various aspects surrounding it.
Why Do Children Need Braces?
Teeth do not seem to always grow in the right manner for every child. Some kids might have crooked teeth, some might have overlapping teeth, or for many others teeth might seem to be crowded in a single area. A condition termed as malocclusion could result in upper and lower jaws being of different sizes, which could need a pair of braces for correction.
Some habits such as incessant thumb-sucking could cause a teeth to protrude outward. Hereditary reasons are also a major factor in the development of teeth.
At What Age Should Kids Get Braces?
Braces are a tool to straighten the teeth. Hence, they are even used by adults as well. However, the effectiveness is higher in childhood since the bone structure is still under development. An age of 10 to 15 years is when most children have braces. If, of course, your child has a more evident condition of misplaced dental patterns, braces could be used by the age of 7 years itself.
The First Orthodontist Visit - What to Expect?
In all matters related to the teeth and braces, it is best to consult a dentist. Primarily, he will make astute observations around multiple aspects of the mouth such as the arrangement of the teeth, their shape, the alignment of the jaw, and so on. By asking your child to bite and checking the movement of the jaw, your dentist might also follow it up by asking if your child has any specific problems while talking or while eating or if there are any clicking sounds in the bone.
In case of a further investigation, an x-ray of the mouth is carried out to check how the teeth are arranged or how the future teeth are bound to arrive. Making a mould of your child’s bite pattern gives a better picture of the jaw movement. All these help your dentist in making a decision if your child needs braces and, if so, which ones.
Signs That Your Child's Teeth May Need Braces
A child may need braces in the following conditions:
If he has lost his milk teeth quite early in life or even quite later.
If the teeth in his jaw have a pattern of being crowded towards a certain area.
The new teeth that emerge from the gums appear from an incorrect position.
The teeth necessary for chewing do not make appropriate contact.
If he cannot chew food properly or is unable to bit hard food items.
If there are multiple instances where he has accidentally bitten his own cheek from the inside.
If he has been sucking on his thumb or has used a pacifier even beyond 6 years of age.
Different Types of Teeth Braces for Kids
Here are some of the different types of braces available that a dentist may suggest for kids:
1. Damon Braces
These are specific braces which make use of slides instead of wires to hold the teeth correctly. It is a passive method of correcting the teeth since it doesn’t make use of any elastic. This can cause some problems as well since it tends to push the teeth more than necessary and could even result in disturbing an existing precision. On the other hand, since there are no rings, these braces are easy to maintain and can be kept clean for long.
2. A-shaped Braces
A comparatively innovative concept in the dental market that allows independence in adjusting and aligning the braces, without the requirement of dental personnel. The shape of the braces resembles the letter ‘A’. The retainers on these braces can be adjusted to suit what you’re eating. Furthermore, since they don’t apply a lot of pressure, the pain experienced is low. On the downside, users need to remove the braces before going to sleep.
3. Spring Alignment Braces
More convenient than others, these braces have a spring that is used to carry out the alignment. These braces are usually meant for the frontal 6 teeth of both jaws and no more. Although slightly on the costlier side, it is a value necessary for the absolute comfort of wear.
4. Titanium Braces
Quite similar to the usual steel braces, the component that is used is different. This makes the braces a tad stronger and comparatively lighter than the usual ones. These braces are not generally recommended unless you tend to have an allergy towards the nickel used in traditional braces. Their rarity results in their costs being higher than usual.
5. Invisalign Braces
One of the easiest braces to be used since they are quite literally a mould of your teeth in plastic. Generally used by people who have crooked teeth, these are extremely expensive and take a long time to be manufactured since they are unique to you. Their effect, however, is far more advanced.
6. Lingual Braces
Contrary to the usual frontal placement of braces, these ones are fitted behind the teeth, turning them into a sort of invisible braces for kids that are quite conscious of having them displayed in the school. However, these braces are quite expensive, and their installation procedure is lengthy and complicated. Furthermore, it causes a lot of irritation to the tongue later on.
7. Gold Plated Braces
Rarely used by kids, these are primarily preferred by people who want a classy look for their braces, or if they are allergic to the nickel coating. Made out of stainless steel, they are pretty much similar to the traditional ones in other aspects.
8. Clear Braces
Another type of braces that are slightly invisible, these have a clear transparent look to them which can be available in different shades, too. Stronger than usual, they also tend to have higher friction, which results in the possibility of making teeth brittle, and causing trouble while removing them after the procedure.
9.Self-Ligating Braces
To avoid constant visits to the dentist, such braces are used to reduce the treatment time and minimize dental review, too. These are expensive since they are made to suit your pattern and, hence, require minimal to no adjustment later on in life. Since they use no elastic and only a wire that passes through brackets, the pain and jaw discomfort is highly reduced.
10. Traditional Braces
The most common of them all, these are simply made out of stainless steel. A bracket is glued to the tooth and a wire is put through that is held with elastic ties. Most people these days avoid using these braces since using them comes with the condition of avoiding chewing gums or chips, as they can get easily stuck.
How to Take Care of Braces?
Taking proper care of braces is important for maintaining hygiene and for good oral health of a child. Know how to take care of braces:
Always brush your teeth after each meal to remove any stuck food particles.
Avoid sugary foods or sticky items and align braces for each meal.
If a wire or bracket has loosened, check with your dentist immediately.
How Much Do Braces Cost for Children?
Braces for children can cost anything from a range of Rs. 18,000 - Rs. 60,000 for the usual metal or ceramic braces, and more than Rs. 70,000 to about 2 lakhs for extremely advanced and customized braces.
Children’s braces and dentistry procedures are quite costly and making a decision is not a quick and easy job. By understanding all the options and choosing a brace that fits your budget and need, you can ensure your child’s dental health stays unaffected and resolves any problems that might arise.

How Long is Hospital Stay After Birth?
As first-time parents, you might start to worry about every aspect of the delivery. This, combined with the hormonal changes in your body, can make for an extremely stressful time. However, you would do well to be prepared and knowledgeable about what to expect when your little bundle of joy gets home.
This article is about how long you will usually have to stay in the hospital after you have given birth to your baby.
How Many Days Should You Stay in Hospital After Giving Birth?
There is no exact number of days, as it depends upon a variety of things, like the health condition of the mother and the type of delivery it was. It also depends upon the health of your baby, as the baby is vulnerable to complications in the first few days.
Right after you have given birth, the baby will be subjected to a checkup called the Apgar Test. This is done to get a quick assessment of the health of your baby. The baby will quickly get to terms with life in the outside world, and adapt to it within his first few hours. During this period, the baby will be checked by the midwife and the doctor. The vital organs of the baby will be checked to see whether they are functional and well, along with the eyes, hips, bottom and the testicles (for boys).
The above tests are usually routine tests, and you will be required to stay in the hospital only if any complications arise in the health of your child.
How Long Should the Stay Be After a Vaginal Delivery?
In the case of a vaginal or natural birth, hospital stay for the mother and baby will usually last for a maximum of 24 to 48 hours. This would require the labour to be smooth, with no complications arising at any stage. Once all the necessary tests have been carried out and no problems have been detected, mom and baby can go home safely. However, if you feel that you are not ready to go home owing to tiredness or fatigue, you could always talk to your midwife or doctor in order to extend your stay there.
How Long Should the Stay Be After a Caesarean Delivery?
Many pregnant women have been anxiously wondering - “How long do I stay in the hospital after C-Section?”, and there is no concrete answer yet again. You will definitely be required to stay in the hospital for a longer period of time compared to mothers who had a vaginal delivery. Considering the enormity of the Caesarean operation, you will usually be required to stay in the hospital for at least around 2 to 3 days after the delivery, if not longer - although in some cases, the doctor may let you leave earlier if he deems you healthy enough.
For mothers who undergo this process, it will take a couple of hours for the feeling to return to their legs. Therefore, the doctor and the midwife will evaluate whether you can walk without support on your own, and urinate without the help of a catheter. Also, mothers will have to be able to eat and drink without getting sick.
Requirements to Meet Before Hospital Discharge
There are a few requirements you will have to meet before you are allowed to leave the hospital.
1. Healthy Mom
It goes without saying, but the mother should be healthy without any problems like excessive bleeding and the likes before she is allowed to go home.
2. Healthy Baby
The baby should also be healthy and should have had his first poop in the hospital. Your baby will also be examined by doctors and paediatricians, for any congenital disorders.
3. Developmental Testing
Nurses and doctors will evaluate whether the child has the skills necessary for surviving in the world, including whether they are able to suck, swallow and breathe by themselves.
4. Skills for Moms
Similarly, mothers will need to have a few skills which will help them look after their babies effectively, and it will be up to the nurses to teach you those. This includes information about general breastfeeding issues, bathing your baby and changing his diaper, among many other things.
5. Registration
The hospital registrar will also stop by and ask you to register the baby, in order to get the birth certificate for the child- you can still do this without having to have chosen a name for the child.
Complications That Can Make You Stay a Little Longer
There are a few situations in which you may be required to stay a little longer-
1. Heavy Bleeding
The mother should not soak more than a pad (maximum of two) in an hour, for it to be called normal bleeding. Nurses may also massage your uterus to stop contractions and the bleeding.
2. Blood Pressure
The blood pressure of the mother may drop owing to the loss of blood during the delivery - this will also be monitored by the nurses during labour.
3. Low Blood Sugar in the Baby
If the mother has gestational diabetes, it can result in the baby having low blood sugar after birth - this will have to be stabilized before you are allowed to go home.
4. Meconium Delivery
If the baby poops during delivery, he may end up inhaling some in the process- this may cause problems in getting enough oxygen. Some children may even need extra, suctioned oxygen before the condition is stabilized.
5. Birth Weight
If the weight of the baby is less than 2 kilograms, he will be kept in the hospital until he gains enough weight to be taken home.
There is no specific, uniform time period after which mothers will be allowed to go home - this depends upon a lot of variables. However, you can always talk to your doctor about your desire to stay in or leave the hospital after delivery and see if the hospital accommodates your wishes.

Essentials of Formula Feeding
Deciding to formula-feed is in itself a significant decision, and actually carrying it out in practice can seem like a daunting task! But don’t worry; our tips will make formula feeding seem completely effortless!
New moms are usually bombarded with images of babies suckling away happily at their mother’s breasts, while mom looks on smiling and content. While breastfeeding is definitely the best and worth the effort it requires, some circumstances are not conducive to breastfeeding and may require an additional source of nutrition for the baby. This is where formula feeding comes in.
Why use Formula?
Deciding to formula feed is not an easy decision, but in some cases, it is the only option. This could be when the mother is either mentally or physically ill or is taking certain medication that could be harmful to the baby. If a woman gets pregnant while breastfeeding, she might be advised to stop if the health of the fetus is at stake. Sometimes in spite of their best efforts, mothers can’t seem to produce sufficient milk to feed their babies. In such a scenario, they are advised to use formula as a top feed along with milk from the breast.
Although the benefits of breast milk are legendary, formula feeding has its conveniences – it is excellent for travelling, it keeps the baby fuller for longer, requiring less frequent feeds, and can be done by anyone – perfect for bonding time with dads!
But formula feeding also comes with its unique set of challenges, which can be confusing to say the least!
Expert Tips to Formula Feeding
Choose the right formula: Most formula brands contain the same components, although some of them might have additional iron or Vitamin K fortification. Talk to your doctor to find the best fit for your baby. Babies with allergies require special consideration. But stay away from cow’s milk; it is not digestible for a child under 1 year.
Choose the right bottle: A bottle that you will use to feed your baby will be differently designed from one that the baby can hold himself. Choose an appropriate style and size depending on your current needs. Always be sure to sterilize bottles and teats after every feeding. You can sterilize bottles at home by boiling or use suitable steam sterilizers. They are available in different variants. Exclusively formula-fed babies will also require more bottles, so stock up in advance.
Prepare the formula correctly: Whether you’re exclusively formula feeding or using it as a top feed, ask your doctor about the amount of formula your baby needs. He will require more as he grows, so monitor his hunger cues. It is crucial to prepare the formula as per package instructions, since this could affect your baby’s health. Formula that is too thick can cause dehydration and constipation while too thin formula can mean that your baby’s not getting enough food. If your baby is sucking to the point of throwing up, you might want to cut down a little, and see if it makes her more comfortable.
Hold the bottle and baby at an angle: It’s best to feed formula in a way that is closest to breastfeeding, to ensure a more natural experience for you and your child. It is recommended to hold the bottle with one hand at a 45-degree angle while supporting your baby in the crook of your other arm. The baby’s head should be slightly raised, to minimize chances of choking and ear infections. For the same reasons, avoid leaving your baby with a bottle propped up; prolonged sucking can also lead to nursing caries (a form of tooth decay) and harm her teeth.
Don’t reheat formula: Formula milk has limited shelf life; check the formula packaging to know more. Most brands strictly forbid reheating formula and give it a shelf life of one and a half to three hours. If you have formula older than the stipulated shelf life, throw it away and prepare a fresh mix. When travelling, carry water and formula separately and prepare when required; this is safer than carrying pre-mixed formula in the bottle.
Start weaning at 12 months: At 1 year of age, your baby’s body is ready to digest cow’s milk, but a sudden transition from formula to milk can be met with resistance. Start by mixing a small amount of cow’s milk into formula, and then gradually increasing it so that your toddler has time to get accustomed to the new taste.
It is normal for formula fed babies to have bowel movements that look and smell different from those of breastfed babies; formula-fed babies usually have firmer bowel movements. In case your baby cries while feeding or throws up after every feeding, consult your doctor. The baby might have an allergy, or the brand you are using is making her gassy. Your doctor will be able to suggest an alternative. Read more

A. Absolutely hundred percent normal if the child changes the position then it’s just a matter of time otherwise I would just say that sometimes kids do not change the position throughout their pregnancy so now you should just be mentally sorted to have a C-section
