Baby Born at 34 Weeks of Pregnancy
Normally, babies are born after 38 weeks of gestation. However, in some cases, babies are born prematurely, at 34 weeks. Called as preemies, these infants need special care, both at the hospital and home. Before we dive into the topic, let's find out the causes for the delivery that happens at 34 weeks.
What Causes Childbirth At 34 Weeks?
Premature delivery may take place due to:
Genital tract infections and bacterial secretions that weaken the membranes surrounding the amniotic sac, causing it to rupture early
Placental problems such as placenta previa, placental abruption or placenta accrete
The presence of multiples or excessive amniotic fluid
Abnormalities in the structure of the uterus or cervix such as cervical insufficiency
Abdominal surgery during pregnancy to remove ovarian cysts, appendix or gallbladder
Complications That Babies Born at 34 Weeks Face
Here are some common complications that babies born at 34 weeks have to face:
1. Jaundice
Preemies tend to contract jaundice as they lack a fully functional metabolic system. A by-product of the blood, bilirubin, accumulates in the body, leading to a yellowing of the skin and eyes.
2. Anaemia
Anaemia is caused by a deficiency of red blood cells. These cells are responsible for carrying oxygen to different parts of the body. In a premature baby, there isn’t enough blood pool to develop completely and hence the body is weak.
3. Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS)
An under-developed respiratory system in premature babies causes breathing difficulties. They are also sensitive to environmental conditions and any change can trigger severe distress with the worst possible outcomes such as respiratory failure.
4. Apnea
Apnea is a disorder in which the body of an infant makes no effort of breathing; it is likely caused by the underdeveloped respiratory system. Babies suffer from it until their body matures and it is treated with medication and close monitoring.
5. Infections
Preemies are also highly susceptible to infections due to their weak immune system.
6. Patent Ductus Arteriosus
This is an artery which joins the mother to the baby. It may not close properly after preterm birth and lead to serious complications.
7. Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD)
if your baby develops this health condition, she may require a ventilator to breathe.
8. Low Blood Pressure
Preterm babies don't have a well-developed blood pool and network of blood vessels. Therefore maintenance of blood pressure is often difficult. It results in lowered blood pressure immediately after birth.
9. Necrotizing Enterocolitis
It is a devastating condition where the premature infant’s intestinal walls are invaded by bacteria. The infection caused in the underdeveloped wall can lead to its destruction and perforation resulting in the spillage of stool into the abdominal cavity.
How To Take Care of a Preemie Born At 34 Weeks
A premature baby born at 34 weeks needs special care and attention at different stages. Here are some ways you can take care of your little one after birth:
1. At the NICU
Babies born at 8 months are shifted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and closely monitored for a few weeks. Babies are kept in incubators with transparent domes that allow just the right amount of light. They also have tubes for feeding and breathing. The atmosphere inside the NICU is carefully controlled with the right mixture of temperature, humidity and partial pressures of gas which is ideal for the growth and recovery of the baby.
2. Feeding
Premature babies cannot be breastfed as their suckling response remains under-developed at birth. They are fed through a tube that goes to the baby’s stomach via the mouth. You may be required to use a breast pump to extract the milk and then feed it to your baby. You may be allowed to breastfeed after she recovers and is discharged from the NICU.
3. Bonding
Bonding between the mother and the child is important. However, this can be hindered by the baby's being placed in an incubator. However, it’s only a matter of time before your baby will be discharged and be able to register your voice and touch.
What Is the Survival Rate of Babies Born At 34 Weeks?
The good news is that the survival rate for moderately preterm babies is over 98% (16.2 deaths per 1000 live births). Therefore, unless there are multiple complications, most babies survive.
How Long Will Your Baby Need to Stay in the NICU?
All preterm babies are required to meet certain milestones before they can be discharged from the NICU. If your infant was born at 34 weeks, she may need to stay in the NICU until she turns 36 weeks. She should be able to breathe, eat, and regulate her body temperature. However, after a few weeks in the NICU, most babies recover after being born preterm at 8 months.

Eating Butter during Pregnancy - Is It Safe?
Consumption of butter during the third trimester of pregnancy or at any other stage for that matter is a question that arises in many pregnant women. A balanced diet is necessary without a doubt. Understanding if butter fits into that equation as well and if there are any considerations to be made, is just as important to keep yourself safe at all times.
Can Pregnant Women Eat Butter?
Yes, pregnant women can totally enjoy eating butter during pregnancy. It is important to maintain a moderate amount of consumption at all times. Although, eating butter is best avoided if you have a history of lactose intolerance or are susceptible to allergies based on such products.
Benefits of Consuming Butter in Pregnancy
A pregnant mother can reap tons of benefits during pregnancy if she resorts to eating butter regularly in the right amount. These benefits range from physiological to even keeping her mood in a good state.
1. Regulation of Cholesterol Levels in the Body
A substantial presence of medium and short chain fatty acids has been observed in the constitution of butter. These fatty acids are not only healthy for the body but also act in controlling the levels of cholesterol especially in pregnant women.
2. Reducing the Impact of Hormonal Issues
Hormones during pregnancy and their effects on your body may not always be welcome. A lot of hormone level can be controlled and even reduced by the consumption of butter. However, since hormones are directly linked with the well-being of the growing baby, getting a doctor’s opinion is highly recommended.
3. A Great Source of Quick Energy
A lot of energy is expended by the body during pregnancy, causing you to feel constantly tired and overwhelmed. Butter contains some vital vitamins such as vitamin K, vitamin E and vitamin D. These play a key role in facilitating the body’s absorption of important elements and providing the energy boost needed badly.
4. Improvement in the Skin and a Younger Look
Pregnancy has a phase when your skin seems to be glowing with a new radiance. However, it can quickly go away when the body is overworked and tired. To counter these effects of hormones and internal bodily processes, butter can help in providing antioxidants that replenish the cells and bring back a freshness to your skin.
5. Enhanced Development of the Child’s Brain
Pregnant women are highly recommended to maintain a good intake of folic acid or vitamin E in copious amounts. This is primarily to help support the brain development of the foetus, which keeps progressing rapidly. Butter is rich in vitamin E and can be a supplementary source for the same.
6. Reduction in Mental Anxiety and Stress
As important as the physical health of the mother is during pregnancy, her mental health and emotions are just as important, too. The stress of the pregnancy can easily take a toll on the baby’s development and the mother’s strength. Butter contains flavonoids that bring down these stress levels and help keep a calm mind.
7. Development of Bones in an Appropriate Manner
Calcium is required in good amounts during pregnancy since the development of a baby’s skeletal structure, including his teeth depends on the presence of calcium in the body. Butter contains a good amount of calcium which can be useful in this regard.
8. Supportive Generation of Stronger Muscles
Butter contains a lot of fat in it. While this might make you worry about obesity and gaining unhealthy weight, most of the fat in butter is the saturated kind. This is good for your body as well as assist in the development of muscles within the child.
Harmful Effects of Having Butter When Pregnant
Butter is primarily quite beneficial for a pregnant woman, given the wide range of benefits for the mother as well as the baby. Most of the ill-effects arise if the amount of butter being consumed is not regulated, and tends to become the primary food item of the diet. At times, the constitution of the body itself could make the consumption of butter a harmful act.
Fat is one of the primary constituents in butter. For a woman who is already suffering gestational diabetes or has a history of heart-related problems, eating butter can further aggravate those or manifest them altogether. Obese and overweight women are at a higher risk of gaining even more weight due to consumption of butter in the wrong amounts.
Is Salted Butter Safe for Pregnant Women?
Any kind of butter is safe for a woman who is pregnant, as long as the consumption is in a safe and moderate quantity. Therefore, salted butter is not at all unsafe and can be consumed without worry.
Can You Eat Unsalted Butter When Pregnant?
As a thumb-rule, unsalted butter is a better option than salted butter, especially during pregnancy. The tastes are more or less the same and you can easily get used to the sensation. However, this isn’t a reason for frequent consumption of butter than required.
How Much Butter is Safe to Eat During Pregnancy?
The addition of butter to specific food items helps in elevating their texture and gives them a flavour that is quite enticing. Butter helps in absorbing the important elements, so it can be used in minimal amounts. It is best not to include butter as a food item to be consumed regularly, or even in the pregnancy diet plan. However, opting for about a teaspoon of butter occasionally won’t be harmful.
Precautions to Take While Consuming Butter
Consumption of butter is healthy but there are a few precautions that need to go along with it. These are necessary to keep your body healthy as well as keep the baby safe as well.
Maintain a controlled portion of butter, which can be recommended by your doctor.
Pair any consumption of butter with a few healthy fruits or vegetables, to keep your healthy diet on the right track.
Avoid unsalted butter if it begins to give a foul smell or has an odour that is off-putting.
Maintain a good consumption of whole grain food items to balance the intake of butter.
Healthy Alternative to Butter for Pregnant Women
While you may love the taste of butter, there are a bunch of alternatives that you can opt for during pregnancy, which is healthy as well as tasty.
Using herbs and broths to season vegetables instead of butter
Using olive oil with vegetables or even pairing them with yoghurt
Eating muffins or bread with applesauce or even margarine
Eating butter during the first trimester of pregnancy can help provide the important elements that the foetus requires to grow speedily. The consumption of butter can then be controlled effectively and made an occasional delight in the later stages, to maintain a healthy body at all times.

A. potty training can be started after the age of two years for the child. Here you need to gradually develop a conditioned reflex in the child and it is done by fixing a particular time on a regular basis in which the child should be make seated over the potty seat to make the child comfortableg first for it. It should be a playful and friendly activity for the child, do not force the child, otherwise the child will be repulsive about it, and once the child is comfortable, the child will be able to pass motion easily, and gradually the child will learn to indicate for the same

A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. But it is really very difficult to say anything without proper examination of the baby. It is advisable to get the baby evaluated by a doctor and follow doctors advise properly. You can also book online doctor’s appointment on FirstCry where the doctor can help you and guide you properly
Thanks and take care

A. whenever you are choosing any baby product whether it is baby oil lotion soap powder shampoo or any product, you have to see whether the child is having any allergy after its usage or noxt.
so if the child is comfortable you can use it but if the child develops allergy or any other problem then go for another brand.
