Eat, sleep, poop, cry, and repeat! That is what a usual newborn’s schedule looks like. A few weeks into it, you find yourself in a hopeless situation with your baby crying, even wailing, non-stop with clenched fists and a troubled face. Just the sight tears your heart apart.
No matter what you try, you can’t comfort your baby. And the crying episodes continue every day at the same time. This seems like it goes on forever, especially when you are already exhausted. So, what is it you are missing?
The usual suspect here is colic.
What Is Colic?
Babies communicate by crying; that’s the only way they know. And as parents, you tune into your parental intuitions to respond to them in the best way possible to meet their needs.
But when the crying occurs for no obvious reason in an otherwise healthy baby, this means colic. Colic is not a disease but a predictable period of significant stressing and crying in a healthy baby. It occurs in roughly 1 in 5 infants. Colic episodes often start between late evenings and late nights, when parents themselves are already tired. With no solution other than passing the time to soothe the baby, this only adds to the frustration and exhaustion.
However, there’s a thumb rule for establishing colic in babies: it occurs at least three hours a day, three days a week, and continues for at least three weeks.

The baby may cry for no apparent reason, unlike crying for a diaper change or hunger.
The baby may clench their fists, stiffen their legs and arms, arch their backs, or often move their arms and legs.
Facial discolouration, such as skin flushing, may occur.
There may be an increase in bowel activity. Babies relieve after spitting up or passing gas, which results from swallowing air during crying.
The baby may show fussiness even after they have stopped crying.
They may have a light sleep between crying, only to wake up, seek a nipple, reject it, and cry again.
Is There Any Difference Between Colic Crying and Normal Crying?
There isn’t any clear definition to determine the difference between colic and normal crying. However, experts suggest that colicky babies tend to cry louder, in a more intense and high-pitched voice, like they are in some pain. They are inconsolable and cry for longer hours as compared to normal crying, in which babies stop crying after their needs are taken care of.
Causes of Colic
To pinpoint the exact cause of colic is difficult. Experts are sure that colic is not genetic, nor is the result of anything that happened during pregnancy or childbirth. Some possible theories that contribute to the cause of colic are:
An immature digestive system may cause acid reflux, indigestion, or gas in babies.
Overstimulation of senses may cause a baby to stress.
Infrequent burping and gas.
Intolerance or allergy to lactose or formula that may cause stomach ache.
Childhood migraine.
A nervous system that isn’t fully developed.

Practices to Soothe Your Baby
Attend to Your Baby: Respond to your baby’s cries as this may help with the overstimulation. Holding, rocking and patting your baby can lessen their cries and make them feel more secure.
Create a Calm Space: Limit guests and strangers around your baby and create a peaceful environment for them to relax. Keep distractions to the minimum. Sing or talk to your baby in a soothing voice while you rock or walk with them. You can also use white noise using a white noise machine, a vacuum cleaner, or a ceiling fan.
Try Swaddling: Swaddle your baby in a warm blanket or keep them close to your chest. This will make them feel secure and safe.

Home Remedies for Baby Dry Skin
Use a moisturizer. If you notice that your baby's skin has dry patches of skin with flaking, then you must start using a moisturizer at least twice a day. Never use moisturizers made for adults as they have chemicals in the composition that will be harmful to your baby's sensitive skin. In addition to using baby moisturizer, you can use baby soap to correct the dryness of the skin.

While dry skin in babies is easily corrected, it could be uncomfortable for your baby. Here are a few ways in which you can prevent your baby's skin from drying out.
Do not bathe your baby too frequently: Contrary to what you might think, a baby requires no more than three baths a week. You must also restrict the amount of time your baby spends in the water.
Massage with oil: The oil massage, not just aids in your child's development, it also ensures that too much oil is not removed from her skin.
Lukewarm water: Using hot water will strip the essential oils from your baby's skin. Use lukewarm water instead.

Sometimes, the dry patches on your baby's skin might turn red. This could possibly mean that she has eczema or atopic dermatitis. 1 cup water
¼ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
How to Prepare
Deseed the bell peppers and grill them for a few minutes or until tender.
Place them in a poly bag for a few minutes for the skin to become loose. Remove the skin.
Churn the pepper in the blender into a smooth puree.
Take a pan, put puree and water and cook for a few minutes.
Add tofu, mix well and cook until all the ingredients form a single consistency.

5. Cracker Coated Tofu Fingers
This super easy and super quick recipe may become your baby’s instant favourite.
Ingredients
1 cup tofu.
6 to 7 crackers (Graham crackers work best, but you may use any cracker or your choice)
How to Prepare
Cut tofu into cubes or long fingers.
Take the crackers and put them in a zip lock bag and gently crush them using a roller pin.
Empty the contents in a plate and roll the tofu chunks nicely into the cracker mixture.

Seeing your baby crying for a continuous 2 hours in the middle of the night and you don't know the reason is not only frustrating but also brings anxiety and tension. I feel no shame in admitting that even I cried with my baby. No one can ever imagine the level of anxiety that I was suffering inside me.
I am not a night person and waking up for my baby at night was a big challenge for me. But as they said, you have a maternal instinct and a slight of crying sound works as an alarm at night.
In these 15 days, a lot of questions, observations came to my mind regarding my newborn. And finally, a visit to paediatrician helped me get all the answers to my questions and observations.
Also, I got to learn that immediate medicine drops must be there at home to ease sudden pain or fever of a newborn.
The journey of sleepless nights, sudden emotional breakdown, anxiety and tension are common for a newborn. In these 15 days, I also learnt that patience is the real key to share a good bond with my newborn.

Q. My daughter (9months old) is not at all willing to drink aptamil and breast milk I am getting only 100 ml per day now. I have tried adding jaggery powder in aptamil but still she is not at all willing to drink.I tried to feed her with aptamil midnight when she was in deep sleep but still she woke up and started crying. I am not able to find any solution for this.Its been 2 days that I have started trying aptamil.So I will continue to try for another week and if she still doesn't drink can you suggest what can be done

A. For yourself I would recommend you Shatavari powder three times in the day to increase your lactation other than that since your child is six months complete you can give Amul Taaza milk to your child that is easier for the childhood digest and flavour is also good even if you want you can add some dry fruit powder saffron or turmeric for flavour change that’s also a good option to try these alternative
