11 Common Baby-Making Mistakes You Are Making and How to Correct Them
Couples planning for a baby may not realise that their carefree approach may hamper their chances of getting pregnant. An unhealthy lifestyle can be a common baby-making mistake. You should plan the right time before, during and after ovulation to increase your chances of conception.
Both partners need to be healthy and fit when they are trying for a baby. There are many factors that can affect their efforts along the way. It is important to recognize these misconceptions about conception (pun intended!) and ensure a successful pregnancy.
Are You Trying to Conceive Since Long?
If you are thinking why can’t you pregnant even after doing everything right, then it’s time to look up the definition of your ‘right’. When it’s your body and hormones, there are ‘n’ things that could go wrong. You must have thought that making a baby is not difficult, but it turns out that it is. Some couples don’t take time to get pregnant, while others could have to wait for too long that they lose hope.
But do you know why does this happen? When ‘trying to conceive’ you might be making certain mistakes or there might be some problem with your body that might be coming in the way.
WATCH: How to Get Pregnant as Explained by Dr Suhasini Inamadar

Key Takeaway:
Although there are no sure ways for getting pregnant, there are certain tips that might help:
To get pregnant stay away from stress.
Lead a healthy and active life. Exercise and eat healthy food.
See a doctor and get the basic checks done. Both man and woman should get their blood tests done.
Women should get scans done to see if they have some problem with ovaries and similarly men should get done with semen analysis.
If women have regular cycles, then days between 10 and 18 of your cycle are good for getting pregnant.
11 Most Common Baby-Making Mistakes
Listed below are the 11 most common baby-making mistakes couples make:
1. Irregular Sex
One of the top mistakes that couples commit is not having enough sex. If you’re planning a baby, you need to be aware that intercourse before and during ovulation is the best time for conception. Some couples miss the right time, leading to gaps in frequency.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake:Couples who have sex around three to four times a week may have more chances of conceiving than those indulging in it once a week.
2. Too Much Physical Intimacy
It is said that having intercourse every day is not a good idea when a couple is trying to conceive as it can decrease the amount of sperm that a man produces.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake:Doctors recommend having intercourse on alternate days. This allows the male partner to produce enough sperm.
3. Being Unaware of the Fertile Window
Many couples are not aware of the best time to have intercourse - the best time is three to five days before ovulation, and on the day of ovulation. Having sex during this time will improve your chances of getting pregnant. Some women are unaware of their ovulation cycle dates.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: To be certain about your ovulation cycle, you can opt for an ovulation prediction test and maintain a fertility chart to know about your fertile window.
4. Waiting for Too Long Before Seeing a Doctor
For couples who are under 35 and have been trying to conceive for more than a year with no success, it’s probably time to see a specialist and ensure that you are both in the clear. On the other hand, if both of you are above 35 and have been trying for six months, you should see a doctor right away to figure out the problem.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: In either of the two cases, see a doctor and get the necessary tests done.
5. Irregular Periods
Women with irregular periods are more likely to have a medical condition such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which affects hormone levels of women, making them vulnerable to fertility problems. If a woman has prolonged menstrual cycles, she is subjected to less opportunities of conceiving as she ovulates only once per cycle.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: In such cases, it’s best to see a doctor, in order to improve the chances of getting pregnant.
6. Using Lubricants
Most lubricants are not sperm friendly and can reduce the chances of conceiving. A woman’s vagina produces a natural lubricant that works as a pathway for the sperms to reach the ovules. External lubricants are not safe and do not work the same way as your body’s natural lubricants.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: You can try a sperm-friendly lubricant or natural oils such as olive oil or coconut oil. These may be safer and more effective.
7. Assumptions About Regular Cycles
It is often assumed that women with regular menstrual cycles are fertile. However, it may not be the case. There are many factors that affect a woman’s fertility. Regular cycles usually are considered a good sign that a woman is ovulating, but this certainly does not rule out the possibilities of poor egg quality, unhealthy fallopian tubes or uterus, or insufficient progesterone production to support a pregnancy.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: Do not assume things and see a doctor as he will check and tell you what exactly the problem is.
8. Leading an Unhealthy Life
It is important to note that your health plays an important role in getting pregnant almost as much as regular intercourse. An unhealthy diet, smoking, intake of alcohol and drugs, are some factors that need to be curbed to increase your chances of successful conception. Even stress and depression can affect your chances of fertility.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: If you soon want a baby in your arms, switch to a healthy lifestyle. Quit drinking alcohol and smoking and switch to healthy foods.
9. Saving Sperms for the Right Time
It is believed that a man should hold on to his sperm until the day of a woman's ovulation. Couples make the mistake of believing that having intercourse prior to ovulation can finish off ‘good sperm’, not leaving enough for the day of ovulation. Note that sperms have a lifespan of three to five days which means that you may conceive even if intercourse occurs in the days just prior to ovulation. The more sperm a man releases, the higher the number produced in his body.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: Have sex regularly, as it will help in improving a man's sperm quality and production.
10. Always Thinking That the Problem is with Women
Since ages, women in our country have been told that if they are unable to conceive, then they have fertility issues. But, nobody points to a man. Fertility problems can happen in both men and women. And there is no need to be ashamed about sharing it with your doctor.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: If you have fertility issues, go to a doctor and both husband and wife should get checked.
11. Sticking to One Position
Many couples think that a certain position is suitable for getting pregnant. It is also believed that a woman has to keep her hips elevated for a while after having sex to get pregnant. But the truth is after ejaculation, sperm swims into cervical mucus and enters the fallopian tubes. So, the actual process is of few minutes and your position does not matter.
Tip to Avoid This Mistake: Instead of sticking to one position while having intercourse, try different positions in which you have fun and make your experience interesting.
So, now as you are aware of what mistakes you might be making, it shouldn’t be hard for you to get pregnant. Although remember, patience is the key and don’t lose hope if the result is still negative. Give yourself some time and you sure will be pregnant soon!

Is It Safe to Consume Flaxseed while Breastfeeding?
Many new mothers who have just started nursing may find that breastfeeding is not an easy job. Latching issues, sore nipples, and mastitis are a few of the worries that plague new mothers. To add to this list is the list of what to eat and what to avoid while breastfeeding. Many new mothers are suggested by almost anyone and everyone about what to eat and avoid during breastfeeding, which may leave them confused and stressed. One such particular food that women are not sure of consuming in their breastfeeding stage is flaxseed.
Flaxseed is reddish or golden yellow in colour. It has been used to alleviate the symptoms of constipation for centuries. Over the past decade, flaxseeds have become an important health food with a niche market of its own. The health benefits associated with the crop has made it a popular addition to diets in the form of supplements or as a key ingredient in many food recipes.
Does Flaxseed Aid in Breast Milk Supply?
Flaxseed is known to be an excellent laxative due to the presence of non-absorbable fibres in them. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, ALA, and DHAs. While there is little data on the benefits of flaxseed for breastfeeding mothers, consuming them in healthy amounts is considered safe for breastfeeding women.
It is essential to understand that the concept of eating flaxseed to boost breast milk production is still ambiguous. While it is known that the omega-3 fatty acids are very crucial for augmenting breast milk supply, there is no direct and clear link between the consumption of flaxseed or it's oil and increased breast milk supply. Flaxseed, on the other hand, is known to contain phytoestrogens which when consumed in large quantities can disrupt normal hormonal function. This could reduce the quality or quantity of breast milk and hinder adrenal function.
Since the take on the effects of consuming flaxseed on milk supply is ambiguous, it is better for you to consult a lactation expert and your medical expert before you start taking any type of supplements.
What Are the Effects of Consuming Flaxseed while Nursing?
If you are wondering if you can eat flaxseed while breastfeeding, we have listed below some effects of flaxseed on mother and infant:
On Mother
Flaxseed and oil can have the following effects on a lactating mother:
It can increase the ALA (Alpha-linolenic acid), which partially converts to omega-3 fatty acids. Fatty acids are essential to breast milk production.
Women with low fatty acids, whose milk supply is impacted, may see an increase in supply with regulated used of flaxseed oil.
Flaxseed oil while breastfeeding does not counter the low intake of docosahexaenoic acid in mothers. This DHA cannot be synthesised by our bodies but is crucial for foetal brain and immunity development.
Flax oil can cause blood thinning, and this might lead to excessive bleeding after injuries.
Flaxseed oil is also not advised for diabetic women as it can spike blood sugar levels.
On Baby
Flaxseed and flaxseed oil are high in omega-3 fatty acids that are effective anti-inflammatory fats that the body needs to maintain good brain and heart health.
They are also packed with lignans which scavenge free radicals and protect the baby’s body from damage.
Flaxseed is a good source of thiamine, Vitamin B6, folate, niacin, Vitamin B5, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, and selenium which are essential micronutrients to develop bone, muscle, and heart health in a growing infant.
Flaxseed have a woody or nutty taste and can be included in moderation to your diet in the form of oil, ground flaxseed powder, flaxseed crackers, or even in oatmeal and muesli. Flaxseeds can also be added to bread while baking. However, remember, there is no consensus that flaxseed helps increase breast milk supply. So, please consult your doctor and get expert advice before you decide to try flaxseed or their supplements while lactating.

6 Important Ways To Ensure Kids Are Safe When On a Swing
Swings are a part of everyone's childhood. Unfortunately, injuries from swings are also a part of most children's lives! Swings are a leading source of injuries in parks. Find out how to ensure your child is safe, yet doesn't miss out on the fun of swinging.
Little ones love to spend their playtime on swings and slides, often pestering you for repeated visits to the park through the day! While most parks are built with safety regulations in place to keep your kid away from harm, you still need to take care of certain things to make sure your dear little kid enjoys his swinging in safety. Swings are a common playground equipment that often cause childhood injuries. We list here some important tips to help you keep your little one safe on swings:
1. Make Sure Swings Are Spaced Safely
Swings must be spaced well, leaving a considerable space between them to avoid the risk of collisions and entanglements. Ideally, swings should be at least 22 inches apart from one another. For safe swinging, make sure that the bottom seat of the swing is eight inches above the ground. You can adjust the height of the swing to ensure your little player mounts and dismounts the swing safely. Plus, you’ll avoid the risk of their feet getting scraped.
2. Check Swing’s Dimensions and Material
Make sure that the surface of the swing that extends in the front and back is twice the height of the swing’s suspension chain. So, if the top end of the suspension chain is ten feet high then the swing surface should extend 20 feet to ensure safe swinging. Also, ensure that your child chooses a swing made by using a soft material, such as plastic or rubber. Avoid swings made out of metal or wood.
3. Kids Should Be Seated On The Swing
Ensure your child always sits on the swing, and never kneels or stands. Standing and kneeling on the swing is highly dangerous for kids. Instruct your child to sit and hold the side ropes of the swing with both her hands while swinging. Also, instruct your kid to stop swinging completely before she gets off the swing.
4. Close The ‘S’ Hooks
The seats of the swing are connected by ‘S’ hooks to the long suspension chains that are present at the sides. Make sure you bend the ‘S’ hooks properly towards the closed position to ensure safe swinging of your child. Improperly closed or open ‘S’ hooks increase the risk of kids’ clothes getting entangled. This could lead to injuries and accidents as she mounts or dismounts the swing.
5. Always Supervise Your Kid On The Swing
Never leave your child unsupervised on a swing. Make sure your child is the only person on the swing and no other kid is sitting on the swing along with him while swinging. Swings are meant for one child at a time and more than one on the swing simultaneously is unsafe. Prevent your child from climbing and jumping on a swing. Also, while other kids are swinging, instruct your child to be away from the swings to avoid the risk of injuries and falls as a moving swing might hit her.
6. Keep The Swing’s Surroundings Clear
Make sure no pointed objects, loose items or toys are present in the vicinity of the swing. Keep jump ropes, chains, screws, scarves, connected mittens, and toys that might roll under your kid’s foot, such as balls, toy cars, marbles, and beach buckets, away from the area where your child is swinging. Clearing off the surroundings of the swing prevents the risk of injuries and falls and ensures safe swinging. Read more

A. the average birth weight of neonates is about 3 kg.
during the first few days after birth, the newborn loses
extracellular fluid equivalent to about 10% of the body
weight.
most infants regain their birth weight by the age of 10 days. subsequently, they gain weight at a rate of
approximately 25 to 30 g per day for the first 3 months of life.
thereafter they gain about 400 g weight every month,
for the remaining part of the first year. x
an infant usually doubles his birth weight (taken as 3 kg) by the age of 5 months. the birth weight triples at 1 year and is four times at 2 years of age.
the weight of ca child at the age of three years is usually
five times that of the birth weight.

A. Some women may have vomiting throughout their pregnancy. The most common reason for vomiting during the third trimester may be gastritis. Make sure you eat small frequent meals, preferably every 2 hours. If your baby's weight during checkups are adequate..u needn't worry much about this. You can also consult your doctor and take anti emetics and PPIs if the vomiting is bothering you or interfering with your daily activities.

Q. Is it okay is the baby does not pass stool for one day?

A. For breastfed infants it depends on age. During the first month of life, stooling less than once a day might mean your newborn isn't eating enough. However, breastfed infants may go several days or even a week between bowel movements, using every drop they eat to make more baby, not poop.
