5 Gadgets to Avoid During Pregnancy
Our level of comfort has moved from wired technology to wireless technology. But do we realise the side-effects that are associated with wireless gadgets? More importantly, such gadgets harm the little one in your tummy without you even realizing it!
If you’re a mommy to be, you probably spend a lot of time shopping for baby essentials online, talking to near and dear ones, scrolling through social media on your laptop and what not. But have you ever stopped to think about the damage that gadgets can cause to the development of your unborn child? Yes! It’s true. Excess use of wireless gadgets exposes you and your child to radiation.
There are two kinds of radiation exposure that pregnant women should worry about. The first is non-ionizing radiation, which comes from household appliances such as microwaves, ovens and television sets. The second is ionizing radiation which comes from X-rays. For years, people have grown increasingly worried about the dangers of high-frequency radiation from cell phones, wireless telephones, WiFi routers and microwave ovens.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOF3i399Qww
KEY TAKEAWAY: Most home appliances release non-ionizing radiations, which are not as harmful as ionizing radiations. However, Dr. Teena Thomas (Obs-Gyn) recommends that as a precaution, use of these gadgets should be kept to a minimum during the nine months of pregnancy.
During pregnancy, smartphones should be used only on a need-base, and should be kept as far away from the body as possible.
Switch to using landline phones preferentially over mobile phones to further minimize use.
Stay away from radiation by keeping such gadgets far from your bedroom, especially while going to sleep.
While studies conducted right now are not conclusive as to the extent to which gadgets affect babies and pregnant women, we may never know the long-term effects, and so prevention is better than cure.
5 Gadgets to Avoid During Pregnancy
No doubt, smartphones and wireless gadgets have made life easy! But we fail to realise the cons that come along with this ‘ease’. You’ll be surprised to know the extent to which wireless gadgets affect the behavioural traits of the tiny munchkin in your womb. Here’s a list of gadgets that every woman should avoid during pregnancy.
1. WiFi Routers
On the use of Wi-Fi technology, the World Health Organisation says,“Considering the very low exposure levels and research results collected to date, there is no convincing scientific evidence that the weak RF signals from base stations and wireless networks cause adverse health effects.” What’s important to understand scientifically, is that children have an absorbent brain tissue and thinner skulls, leaving them more susceptible to microwave radiation than adults. A study published in the Journal of Microscopy and Ultrastructure found that children are more vulnerable to risk from radiation as compared to adults. Most women don’t know that WiFi routers and cellphones increase pregnant women's risk of suffering a miscarriage by nearly 50%.
2. Microwaves
Microwaves work by using electromagnetic radiation to raise the temperature of a food. This radiation creates electromagnetic fields (EMF). It is believed that EMFs cause low birth weight and birth defects. Food heated or cooked in the microwave should be avoided during pregnancy for the same reason. Heating food in plastic plates or bowls is hazardous since plastic containers have a cancer causing element called Bisphenol A(BPA),which is harmful for you as well as your baby.
3. Laptops
Worry not! Laptops and computer screens, if used in moderation, are safe for use during pregnancy. The concern arises, however, when pregnant women use laptops for a long period of time. Laptops get warmer with use and if you put it on your tummy, the heat can harm your baby. It’s best to place the laptop on a cushion or a table or use a cooling pad.You should make sure you practice proper posture when pregnant by putting your laptop on a desk or table and sitting upright in a chair. That way, the heat won’t get to your fetus, and you’ll have less back and arm pain in the long run.
4. Cell Phones
Cell phones are the main source of radio frequency-electromagnetic fields. Pregnant women who may have used their cell phones just two or three times a day still have an increased risk of their babies developing hyperactivity and difficulties with behavioural conduct, managing emotions and dealing with common problems of relationships later in life.
5. Bluetooth Headsets
Even though Bluetooth headsets are most convenient when it comes to communicating while commuting, their radio frequencies are as harmful as that of microwaves. The bottom line is that it is a wireless gadget that attracts radiation right to your brain through your ear. Even though it’s debatable, wireless gadgets such as Bluetooth headsets must be kept well away from the body when you’re pregnant, as a precaution if not a legit safety measure.
Effects of Cell Phone Radiation on Pregnancy
Of all the gadgets mentioned above, cell phones are common across most households and it’s simply impossible to imagine a single day without them. Cell phones emit high-frequency radiation as compared to other gadgets, which make them unsafe for use during pregnancy.According to Yale School of Medicine, “Exposure to radiation from cell phones during pregnancy affects the brain development of the offspring, potentially leading to hyperactivity.” Exposure to cell phones before birth increases your child’s risk of developing certain behavioural problems. Pregnant women must stay away from cell phones for numerous reasons – mainly because at a developing stage, your baby’s brain is fragile and more vulnerable than adults. Your baby’s brain has very little bone protection, which is why there is greater absorption of radiation. Using a handset just two to three times a day is enough to raise the risk of babies developing hyperactivity and difficulties with conduct, emotions and relationships by the time they reach school age. It is also believed that these radiations alter the DNA of adults. Just imagine their impact on your sensitive foetus!
So all the mommys-to-be are advised to keep their cell phones away from their abdomens and limit cell phone usage for their child’s sake.
Cautions about Using Gadgets during Pregnancy
Even though it is impossible to completely rule out the existence of wireless gadgets, there are a few measures that can be taken while using gadgets which will reduce your baby’s radiation exposure.
Distance is the key. Stay away from wireless gadgets and you’re good to go.
While using your cell phone, make sure you wear earphones to avoid bringing the phone near the brain.
Make it a point to turn off any electronic gadget when not in use, especially at night before going to bed. This minimizes radiation exposure during sleep time, which is essential since that’s the time when the body does a lot of DNA repair work.
Toggle mobile data on and off. Mobile internet services (2G, 3G, 4G) emit high frequency radiations and must be turned off when not in use.
Relocate the WiFi router and other wireless gadgets away from your bedroom.
Replace WiFi technology at home with wired Internet. This might sound like going back in time, but for the duration of your pregnancy at least, this should be considered.
There are quite a few gadgets that will assist you when you’re pregnant. The important thing to remember here is that even though most gadgets are useful, they’re simply adding to your radiation exposure. Moderation is the key! Excess use of any gadget is harmful, both for you and for your baby. To be on the safe side, it’s best advised to use wireless gadgets in moderation, so that you and your baby are healthy and happy. Healthy Lunch Recipe Ideas for Toddlers in Daycare
One question that arises now is what can be the possible lunch ideas for a 3-year-old going to the daycare. We understand that the items have to be pleasing enough to your little bundles of joy and yet should be simple enough for you to prepare in very little time. At the same time, when it comes to your toddlers, you certainly cannot compromise on the quality as well and so have to be careful about that as well! Keeping all these things in mind, here are some healthy lunch ideas for your toddlers to be packed in daycare:
1. Sandwiches sorted
The words tiffin and sandwich almost go hand in hand. So, while discussing the best lunch ideas for toddlers, we certainly cannot do without sandwiches be it a chicken sandwich, a ham sandwich or a simple veggie one. This simple to make, yet tasty to eat. It is something that all kids generally love, owing to the variety it comes in. Bread is the main ingredient of this recipe it is also filling and can be gobbled quickly and conveniently.
Ingredients
Boiled Chicken Slices/ Ham slices (200-300 grams approximately)
2-3 slices of toasted bread cut diagonally
Finely sliced vegetables (onion, cucumber, carrot, tomato)
Butter (One teaspoon)
Cheese (2 slices)
Mayonnaise (Optional)
Salt and pepper (according to taste)
Method
Apply butter to the slices of bread. Then, put one slice of cheese between two slices of bread and put the chicken or ham along with the vegetables between the slices. You can always skip the chicken and the ham to keep it vegetarian. You can also add some mayonnaise to the sandwich for taste. Put the entire thing into your sandwich maker, and your toddler's lunch is ready!
2. Secure the Steak
You will hardly find any child who is not fond of chicken! While a good deal of chicken will give your toddler his correct share of protein in lunch, he will never complain of a boring lunch either and finish it up in no time. As a plus point, grilled steak is the easiest to prepare as well, and you can keep it prepared the previous night as well! The ingredients too are the most basic and most easily available ones.
Ingredients
Grilled Chicken (one boneless breast piece)
Boiled Potatoes (6-7 slices)
Boiled Peas (a handful
Boiled carrots (4-5 slices)
Salt and pepper (according to taste)
Method
Take a boneless breast piece of chicken and grill it in your micro oven or grill. Cut it up into small cube-like pieces so that it is convenient for your toddler to have it and put the pieces in his lunchbox. Take boiled potatoes and carrots, slice them and put it in the box as well. Add some boiled peas too, if it is winter! Sprinkle salt and pepper for flavour and your toddler's chicken steak is ready!
3. Prepare the Porridge
Are you are looking for lunch ideas for 1-year-old at daycare? A bowl of porridge would probably be the best idea as it would not only be easy to consume for your little one but also won't take much time to finish up! As your bonus, it is extremely easy to prepare and can be made in even less than an hour's time. You can also prepare it the on the previous night and store it in the refrigerator to avoid hurry the next morning.
Ingredients
Rice Flour (1 Cup)
Boiled chicken Slices (Half Cup)
Water (2-3 Cups)
Ginger- Garlic Paste (Optional)
Method
Boil the rice flour for around ten minutes carefully by stirring it continuously so that the mixture does not burn or accumulate into lumps. Cook the chicken slices for about half an hour and add it to the boiled rice flour while it is boiling. Keep it in low flame for a couple of minutes and add the ginger-garlic paste for good taste. You can avoid it if you feel it would become spicy for your toddler.
4. Eggs are the Saviour
Eggs are something that your toddler would probably never get bored off, owing to the different varieties it can be cooked in! From omelettes to poaches and the customary boiled eggs, each of these is extremely easy to make, needs the least effort and usually loved by all children. They are also extremely healthy and will add to the right amount of protein for your child. You can pair them up with some bread or even mashed potatoes, and your toddler's lunch is ready to go!
Ingredients
Eggs
Oil (1 tablespoon)
Salt (According to taste)
Method
You can shuffle different recipes of egg depending on which one your toddler likes the best. Boiled eggs are certainly the easiest to prepare. Just take water in a pressure cooker and boil a couple of eggs for about 15 minutes. Once done, cut it into two halves and pack it sprinkling some salt. To make an omelette, put some oil into the frying pan and put the egg yolk in it by splitting the egg using a spoon. Fry it for a few minutes and transfer it into the lunchbox.
5. Noodle It Up
Every child loves noodles! And if you are worried about it being unhealthy here is an extremely simple and healthy recipe of yummy homemade noodles that your toddler will enjoy even every day. This won't even take much time to cook, and the best part is, you can incorporate some healthy vegetables into it which your toddler would refuse to take otherwise!
Ingredients
Unsalted plain noodles
Finely chopped carrots, beans and bell paper
Scrambled eggs and small slices of boiled chicken (Optional)
Water (2-3 cups)
Salt (According to taste)
Method
Boil the noodles in a pan until they are cooked soft. Cook the vegetables, scrambled egg, and chicken pieces separately in a frying pan for about 15 minutes and mixed them with the cooked noodles. Mix them well and add salt according to taste. You might garnish it with some sauce if your toddler likes it and his tasty noodles are ready!
Things to Keep in Mind while Packing Daycare Lunch for Toddler
Just as cooking the same meal every day for your toddler's daycare can be boring for him, at the same time, you cannot provide everything that you cook for him at home when it comes to cooking for a daycare. So, when you are preparing and packing toddler lunch for daycare, you would have to keep the following things in mind:
Make sure you choose an insulated lunch box or one that has a freezer pack so that the food remains intact for an extended period until your child has it. You can use aluminium foil packs to keep the food warm. Avoid ordinary plastic boxes as the material might interfere with the quality of the food prepared.
Avoid foods that might not remain fresh for an extended period if you know that your child will consume it after a considerable period. For example, if his lunch break is after a long time, refrain from providing items such fruits as they might not remain fresh and intact for a long time.
Try to provide dry items for lunch as they are relatively easy to handle and consume for your toddler. For example, puffed rice or sandwiches would any day make a better lunch than some item with a lot of gravy as your toddler might spoil his clothes or have a tough time handling it.
Some food items have to be cooled down before putting them in lunch boxes, or else they might stand a chance to perish with time. So, make sure that after cooking you let it cool down to a normal temperature before you pack it in your toddler's lunch box.
A home cooked food is always healthier than packed or take away foods. So, it is better than you pack cooked food most days rather than packing ready-made meals or fast food. If you do not have time to cook in the morning, it is a better idea to cook on the previous night and store it in the refrigerator before packing it in the morning.
If your kid hates having certain healthy items and brings it back when given for lunch, add the item in a way that he does not understand what it is. For example, if your child hates vegetables and does not want it for lunch, arrange it creatively into food which he loves eating. For examples, you can put some little pieces of carrots and beans into his noodle if he loves having that. This would serve both the purposes for your toddler as he enjoys the lunch and gets his share of nutrition as well.
So, you needn't worry about cooking your toddler's daycare lunch anymore. With these recipes, you can cook a wonderful meal for him that he is sure to enjoy!

Managing daily routine with children is not a child's play!
Your toddler is no more a bed baby. She needs activities and more activities and more activities day by day. You may get tired, but she won't!
Seeing my little bunny grow day by day, all I could grasp by now is that she needs activities all the time. My brain is not much equipped with skills to keep her busy throughout the day, though there are a lots of suggestions from all the respectful people around who managed to have kids before me, but all the suggestions go in vain when it comes to handle your own kid!
So I had to work out for myself after being discarded admission to primary school (due to being too young) which once again left me alone with my 2 year old at home, throughout the day until my hubby coming home to my escape at the evening. But what about the whole day? The activities had to be planned to keep my little cute monster busy and I somehow managed this difficult task after a lot of patience and days of training myself according to her. So here is a series of our schedule until papa is back at our rescue from each other. Hope it works for some new unskilled moms like me!
Wake up call.
My daughter is not an early riser, just like me. So she takes her own time to wake up (only until she gets admission in the pre school when real life starts)
So it gives me ample time to finish my morning work and then when I feel I am quite unloaded, it's time to wake her up.
Some people might advocate this as inculcating wrong behaviour in my baby, but everyone has their own way of handling things. So dear lawyers, please excuse us! :)
Time to clean up.
My maid turns up at around 10.30, so she is busy with her work and I keep myself busy with my daughter's cleaning time, and she is ready while my house is getting cleaned up so she doesn't create mess while roaming after my maid with broom in her hand.
TV time with breakfast.
Now that she is ready, I need to engage her so I could get myself ready too. So, it's TV plus breakfast. I generally cook parantha for her so she can grab a piece in her hand and take bites while enjoying her favourite rhymes. In the meantime, I finish my bathing etc.
Time for milk followed by afternoon nap.
A short nap, not for her but for me to regain my lowered down energy levels. If she sleeps, fine, otherwise I keep her busy with her favourite puzzles and take a super short nap while she enjoys her play.
Fruits time.
It's now time for fruits she likes to have. Though she is a fussy eater, I keep on trying my hands on feeding her with fruits, sometimes I succeed, sometimes she succeeds.
Short nap time for her.
And preparation of lunch and other small household work and my official works and some me time for me. :)
Lunch time.
We generally have lunch together, depending upon madam's mood.
Activities time and study time.
Coloring, cricket, hide and seek and any other activity we both enjoy with each other. It's our play and study time.
Park time after evening snack.
Or sometimes snacks come after park time because she is very accurate about her park timings. She wouldn't take it if mumma goes late and would call her dad to file a complaint!
And then, dad is at home.
And we both get a break from each other for some time after a long long day. :)
So this is my day routine with my growing up toddler whom I try my level best to entertain as well as educate both side by side.
In a nutshell, it's not just what amount of time you spend with your toddler, just make sure they are never left without any activity, be it keeping them busy with eating or playing their favourite rhymes on television. Toddlers get bored easily, it's really tough to gets your hands on the changing needs of a growing up kiddo. Just a little patience and it's all done. All the best 👍 Read more

Is Taking Botox Treatment Safe while Pregnant?
Botox is quickly becoming the way many people, most of them women, are trying to fight the signs of ageing. While some claim that Botox does not move beyond the site of injection, others claim otherwise and suggest that it could be harmful to your baby if you decide to take Botox injections during this time. No studies on humans have been done to confirm, but the studies that have been done on animals do suggest that Botox is indeed, harmful to a foetus.
What is Botox Treatment?
Botox is commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles in the attempt to bring a more youthful look to the face. It is made from bacterium Clostridium botulinum and works by causing a blockage in certain nerves or weakening or paralysing certain muscles. The results of a Botox treatment may last for a few years. Though made from a toxin, it is purified and used in very small quantities, which is why it has been considered to be safe for the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines.
Can You Take Botox during Pregnancy?
Since the Botox injection is made with a poisonous substance, a question that plagues many women is, does Botox affect pregnancy? For mothers who have taken the Botox treatment before conceiving, it is perfectly alright and will not cause harm to your child, but if you are already pregnant and are thinking about getting this treatment done, the smarter thing to do would be to wait until you have given birth to your child and finished breastfeeding. Even though your baby is still very small and has a long way to go while developing, taking Botox in early pregnancy is also not considered to be safe. Taking one injection will not cause any serious harm, but if you are to continue with this treatment, you will be taking more than one injection, and this can eventually result in your own health getting affected. If you are not in your best condition, you are not only putting yourself but your unborn child at risk.
Side Effects Of Getting Botox When Pregnant
Though the side effects of Botox are not very common, they are still serious enough that you ought to pay attention to them and avoid taking any Botox treatments:
Dizziness
Breathing difficulties
Difficulties swallowing
Respiratory infections
Pain
Nausea
Headaches
Muscle weakness
Double vision
Swelling
Sensitivity to light
Loss of strength
Safe Alternatives to Stay Wrinkle Free in Pregnancy
Botox and pregnancy are two things that should never be combined. Something that pregnant women should keep in mind is that the body goes through many hormonal changes during this time, and often results in what is commonly known as a “pregnancy glow” where your skin looks bright and youthful all on its own. This really leaves you without a reason to go for Botox treatments during your gestation period. If you feel like you need more, you should opt for more natural remedies as anything that involves chemicals, light therapy or lasers should be avoided during pregnancy. Here are some options for you to consider:
Follow the CTM skincare method. This is a simple method where you Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize your skin every day to ensure that you are removing all the dirt and grime that gets stuck in the pores, causing your face to look aged and dull.
Get the right serum. Serums are a great skin care product that includes concentrated versions of the ingredients that help to heal your skin. Get yourself a good quality serum that targets your problems, like fine lines or dark spots, and use it every day.
Maintain a balanced and healthy diet. Not only is this important for your pregnancy itself, but it is also important for keeping your skin clear and youthful
Night skincare. It is good to look after your skin in the mornings, but do not forget to do the CTM method at night as well since night is when your skin can rejuvenate itself better than during the day.
Stop squinting. If you squint a lot because of the sun, make it a habit to wear shades or a hat so that you do not need to squint so much as squinting causes fine lines and wrinkles to develop faster
Turn your frown upside down. Do not frown as much and try to smile as much as you can. Frowning a lot causes wrinkles to form in the centre of the forehead, between the brows and around the mouth.
If you are someone who has already taken the treatment before you found out you were pregnant, do not worry. Instead, do not take any more of the treatment for the duration of your pregnancy and while you are nursing. You can always continue after. The safety and health of your little one are the most important.

My Motherhood Journey With Its Ups and Downs
Being a mother and giving birth to a baby is not an easy thing. I am here with my story. During my first pregnancy, even after the completion of 41 weeks, I did not get any pains. I was admitted to the hospital. My doctor is very close to my family. My mother is working as a Nursing Officer. The doctor had scanned me and said that everything is okay with respect to the fetal heartbeat, but we could wait for only one more day because the umbilical fluid was very less. At that time, my mother asked the doctor for induced pains. Then, the doctor injected me with a special type of gel for that. After two hours, the pains started. My mother was with me all the time. After the pains started, it took 16 hours for delivery of my first baby boy. At the time of severe pains, my mother did not leave me... she held me in her arms. Here, she taught me that a mother's touch can save us from any difficulty in the world. And my doctor was continuously talking to me about motherhood. I was completely surprised at seeing my baby. My family was very happy. Again, I continued my job very confidently.
After completing 1 year and 4 months, again I got pregnant. This time also, I did not get any pains. 41 weeks were completed but, no one was ready to wait for more days. Because at that time, one day, we got a natural disaster named Titli cyclone. No means of communication were available at that time. No electricity and no water. Luckily, we had already made a call to the doctor and he recommended to go to the nearest city where the cyclone was not that effective. My father tried hard to arrange a vehicle and finally got one taxi, but the owner said that fuel was very less. Thankfully, the vehicle started. On the way, all the petrol stations were severely damaged and nobody was ready to give fuel. At last, we reached the hospital by God's grace. This time also, the doctor injected the gel. But there were no pains. The baby's condition also was not that good. Then, they suggested I go for C- section delivery. I gave birth to my second child- a baby boy. 50days elapsed after the second delivery, but the bleeding was still not under control. I used medicine also but it to no avail. My doctor took a scan and diagnosed a very small clot. It is a very rare thing, he said. He suggested me for go for D & C. And at the time of D & C, some sedatives were given. But its very painful. My mother rubbed my arms with affection. That's why I was stable. Now I am alright.
I would also like to talk about weight gain. It's very important to gain weight during pregnancy- at least 10 to 15kgs. Every pregnant woman fears overweight after delivery. I was 52 kgs before my first pregnancy and after second delivery I am again back to my normal weight. It was possible with breastfeeding, proper exercise and yoga but not with dieting (i.e. eating less food or going without food). We should eat healthy food and a balanced diet. This is my personal story and I feel it will help to-be mothers, so I shared it.
