Diwali – the festival that everyone looks forward to, is soon approaching! This festival is synonymous with lights, fun, frolic, and most definitely sweets! One can’t imagine a celebration without sweets like barfis, ladoos, and mithais prepared for friends and loved ones, jalebis enjoyed by the family, and kids rushing about stuffing their mouths with whatever they can lay their hands on!
As much as this entire scenario evokes images of happiness and merrymaking, there can be a lot to deal with post the festivities if one isn't mindful, one of them being the risk of cavities in your child’s teeth.

1. Carbonated Drinks
Not only are carbonated drinks like soda an unhealthy choice for your child’s body, but they’re also one of the worst foods for tooth decay. When the teeth are exposed to the carbonic acid in these sodas, the enamel gets eroded, making the teeth more prone to tooth decay. Additionally, these teeth are also more sensitive to foods that are at hot and cold temperatures. Post drinking soda, ask your child to rinse their mouth with water. Oranges, though still acidic, are the least acidic of the citrus fruit family and are thus a safer choice if consumed in moderation. If your child loves citrus fruit, you can include oranges in their diet while reducing the damage to their teeth. For citrus juices, have your child use a straw to avoid any direct contact with their teeth. They can then rinse their mouth to help dilute the acid.
5. Pickles
Pickled vegetables like pickled cucumbers increase the risk of tooth decay because of the vinegar used during the pickling process. With a low pH of 2.4, vinegar has around the same acidity as lemons. The acetic acid present in vinegar weakens the dental enamel, leading to tooth decay and loss of tooth minerals. This, in turn, will lead to the formation of cavities. If your child is obsessed with eating pickles alone as a snack, you can try adding them inside a sandwich or burger. This is a safer alternative, as the pickles will have less contact with the teeth that way.
6. Potato Chips and Crackers
Because there’s not much sugar in salty snacks like chips and crackers, they should be safe for your child’s teeth, right? Wrong. These snacks are filled with starch, which gets converted into sugar. And that’s not all! They tend to get collected between the teeth and feed the bacteria present in tooth plaque. It’s the stickiness of these starchy foods that enables them to stay on the teeth for a long time. The longer the teeth are exposed to these foods, the easier it is for cavities to build. After eating crackers or chips, have your child brush with a toothpaste designed for kids to ensure all the particles stuck between the teeth are removed. 8 DPO Symptoms - An Important Milestone of Your Pregnancy
If you are trying to have a baby, you will start noticing some early signs of pregnancy right after you conceive. Some people might not suspect they are pregnant until they miss a period. Many women might confuse these signs with those of a menstrual cycle because they are quite similar.
What Is 8 DPO?
8 days post ovulation or 8 DPO refers to the signs of early pregnancy in a woman. A woman’s body produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) after conception. This hormone will lead to many bodily changes and will cause morning sickness, headaches, etc. After the fertilised egg is implanted in the uterus or approximately eight days after ovulation, these signs might start to appear. Hence, the term '8 DPO'.
8 Days Past Ovulation Signs
Here are some signs you should look out for:
1. Implantation Bleeding
About 8 to 10 days after ovulation, a fertilised egg implants itself on the uterine wall. Implantation might cause light spotting or bleeding. You might mistake implantation bleeding for your period because the bleeding and spotting 8 DPO symptoms might occur around the time you expect your menstrual cycle.
However, implantation bleeding does not last as long as a normal menstrual cycle, and when compared to a normal period, it is usually lighter. It can cause early pregnancy symptoms such as high basal body temperature or lower abdominal pain. A cramping 8 DPO symptom might seem like menstrual cramps.
Implantation bleeding usually stops on its own, but if you are concerned, then you should see a doctor.
2. Dizziness and Headaches
Early pregnancy might trigger dizziness and mild headaches because of the fluid volume changes and hormonal changes. The symptoms mostly occur when there are changes in the blood circulation and its volume. Not many women faint but it is still possible. You could get rid of your dizziness and headaches by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day and keeping fluids in your body.
3. Constipation and Gas
Increased hormone levels can affect your digestive tract as well. The process of digestion might slow down, resulting in constipation or fewer bowel movements. Constipation will increase the risk of abdominal cramping, bloating and gas.
Increasing your fibre and water intake while limiting gas-producing foods (beans, broccoli, dairy, etc.) and carbonated drinks can ease the flatulence and constipation.
4. Tender, Swollen Breasts
Higher levels of hormones soon after conception can cause changes in breasts and their sensitivity. This is because the blood flow to your breast tissue will be increased. Your breasts might become sore and swollen, and you might also have nipple sensitivity. You might feel very uncomfortable wearing a bra, but these symptoms mostly disappear within a few weeks because your body will adjust to the hormonal changes.
5. Morning Sickness
At some point during the first trimester, many women experience morning sickness. This mostly includes vomiting and nausea. It can happen at any time during your pregnancy although it is an early pregnancy symptom.
Some women do not experience these symptoms, but others have both vomiting and nausea soon after ovulation. This sickness might occur only in the morning and occasionally, throughout the day.
6. Unusual Smells, Tastes, and Cravings
Early pregnancy can heighten your senses, and you can have a low tolerance or become overly sensitive to certain things. Some of the drinks and foods you usually consume might no longer appeal to your taste buds and might even start to taste funny. Some women even complain of a metallic taste in their mouths. You might also crave new foods. For instance, you might be a coffee drinker, but now you will not be able to tolerate the flavour and suddenly prefer tea.
7. Increased Urination
Despite the fact that you are not drinking more liquids, you might find yourself constantly running to the bathroom to urinate. This is another early symptom of pregnancy.
During your pregnancy, blood flow increases to your kidneys. This response is responsible for making the kidneys produce more urine which can start very soon after conception.
Increased urination slows down within the first trimester but increases again when you are towards the end of the third trimester. During the third trimester, increased urination is due to the enlarging uterus putting added pressure on the bladder.
8. Fatigue
During pregnancy, your body will produce more of the hormone progesterone. This hormone prepares the uterus for pregnancy. Higher levels of progesterone will make you feel more tired than usual. Heartburn is also caused by this hormone.
You might wake up feeling tired even though you may have gone to bed early and slept throughout the night. Extreme exhaustion and fatigue might only occur during early pregnancy, or it could even last the entire pregnancy. In such cases, it is important to listen to your body and take rest.
You could also exercise for 30 minutes every day to increase your energy levels, avoid stimulants like caffeine, and eat a balanced diet.

600 g minced chicken
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
Salt to taste

1/2 cup maida dissolved in 3/4 cup water
2 eggs
1 tsp pepper
1 pack chicken masala
1 tbsp maida
Oil to deep fry
For the burger

Mayonnaise

Method
For the patty
Step 1
Pressure cook or boil chicken with salt, turmeric powder and chilli powder.
Step 2
Drain the water and shred the chicken finely or grind it in a blender without water.
Step 3
In a bowl, mix the chicken, chicken masala, pepper, salt, shredded vegetables (or finely chopped), onion, tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste and maida well. This should be thick and dry but should also hold well together.
Step 4
Make balls out of this mixture and pat into a flat round patty.
Step 5
Now beat the eggs in a bowl. In another bowl keep the bread crumbs ready and in another bowl keep the maida dissolved in water.
Step 6
Heat oil in a pan for frying the patties and keep ready.
Step 7
Now, pick a patty, dip it in the eggs, followed by maida and then the bread crumbs.
Step 8
Drop it into the oil and fry till the patty becomes a dark golden brown.
For burger
Step 9
Place the patty in between the buns and spread the mayonnaise.
Step 10
Place a slice of tomato, cucumber, onion or veggies of your choice.

Poke a toothpick through the burger to hold it in place and serve.

So you are about to get into your 2nd or 3rd Trimester. It’s now a great time to plan your maternity leave. The Maternity Benefit Amendment Act 2017, passed in March 2017 -which is applicable to organisations having over 10 employeesentitles a working womeninIndia-
apaid maternity leave for 26 weeks (approx 6 months).
So what you do and how you plan? Here are few points that should help you maternity planning the next 6-12 months.
1- Know the HR policy’s:
Companies have implemented 26weeks maternity leave, but there can be some silver lining here. Based on your profile of work , there can be additional options & benefits such as WFH ifyou are in final trimester. Also companies offer medical reimbursement upto an amount which can differ for both normal/C -section.
Reach out to your HR and go through the complete maternal policy & benefits. Also understand the supporting documents like medical bills, test reports etc. which will be required to claim the leave as well as other benefits later.
2- Speak to your manager:
Generally when you are passed your first trimester(i.e.first 3 months), you can use this time to break the news to your manager. Don’t delay further as the bump will begin to be visible towards the mid of your 2nd trimester. If you need flexibility in time or WFH towards the end of your 3rd trimester give him/her the intimation so that the required planning can begin. Important thing is to remain professional and not let the work suffer when you are not around during your leave.
It’s alright if you are not comfortable to share this news with other colleagues yet at office. They will know in few weeks and that’s totally fine!
3- Speak to your colleagues:
Once aligned with your manager - you can begin knowledge transfer of the critical task your colleagues will handle when you are away during the maternity leave. Better if you can prepare a SOP & share with the concerns (including your manager) so that you are least bothered during your maternity leave.
4- Speak with your family :
So since 6 months or more you will be on at home ,plan with your partner, parents, in laws and friends of who all would be there to ‘support you’ when you are home and when you would be going back to work. Include nanny hunt as well to the task list!
5- Save up the leaves :
In case you have Privilege leaves available , avoid clubbing it with your maternity leave if possible . You have already spend 6 months away from office and I am sure you would be looking forward to go back to work. You can later utilise those leaves for travelling & exploring with your little one. After all you both need a break and exploring after being at home for so long. Or worse , God forbidden if the little one falls sick - atleast you don’t have to worry about loss of pay because you wouldn’t have used up all the leaves.
6- Be worry free :
You are pregnant- a very unique & beautiful journey that any women you google about will say. Your body is going through rapid changes each second so don’t get bothered about anything. I know it’s harder than me just saying so but try to focus and be organised and everything will be just fine.

1. Start your day with atleast 15 minutes of yoga or meditation to relax your mind.
2.Drink a glass of water the first thing in the morning preferabally lukewarm water helpful for constipation which is common during pregnancy.
3.Dont skip breakfast I opt for small meals my breakfast include (chilla,1 egg and toast , veg sandwich ), soaked almonds and glass of milk with protein powder.
4. After 2 hours of my breakfast i eat a fruit that rejuvenated my inner self.(avoid papaya and pineapple )
5.After two hours i have my lunch which includes 1 bowl dal, seasonal veg, 2 wheat chappatis , curd , salad (i overeat during lunch time so that I have enough time to digest it .)
6. During evening i take tea or coffee with handful of roasted makhanas (rich source of protein and calcium ).
7.I have my dinner max by 8 pm my dinner includes chapatti dal/ veg or sandwich.
Then at 10 pm i have glass of milk with protein .
Trust me i don't at all feel like I am overeatting or eating less this diet helps me to feel full and allows me to eat balanced diet in intervals.
I have skipped my cravings and some homemade junk which i occassionaly eat .I will share some healthy recipes soon .

usually this problems improves with increasing age of the child and usually no medicines are given until and unless recommended by the doctor( you can easily wait for ten years of age of the child)
usually treatment of medicines (if started) gives only symptomatic relief and the problem goes away only with increasing age with the strengthening of the muscles of the bladder which control the urination.
