7 Best Running Games for Kids
Most kids like to run naturally, but having them run around a track just for the sake of exercise takes away the fun. Therefore coming up with organized games that will let them run around is a great way to get your kids do some exercise.
Why Should You Encourage Your Child to Run?
Running is good for health and kids love it. But there are many benefits of it. Know what they are:
Running is fun! Kids love to run especially when they run in a group. Running is not only a result of unbridled joy but also leads to it. So why not harness the energy and channel it into an activity?
Running is inexpensive, unlike other high energy sports. All the kids need are a good pair of running shoes and no other fancy equipment or class enrollment.
Running is the easiest sport out there. There are no rules to adhere to, except for some general safety and etiquette. All they have to do is stay in the lane, tie their shoelaces and run once they are asked to do so.
Running is the most basic movement involved in many other sports. So being a good runner helps kids build the core muscles involved in other sports and excel in them too.
Anybody can run. Kids who are reluctant to play other games can find running well within their comfort zones. There is no competition, just running at their own pace is all that’s needed.
Marathon running and sprints are some great example to show to children and develop their interest in running. It teaches them endurance and perseverance.
Running Games for Children
Here are some outdoor running games for kids that you can try:
1. Capture the Flag
This is a great game that works on team effort and involves plenty of running. It’s best when there are 8 or more kids and a big ground available.
How To Play
Divide the children into two teams with equal players. Mark the centre of the field with several cones or other markers and plant flags of two different colours belonging to each team on opposite sides of the field such that the flags are at least 50ft from the centre. When the whistle is blown the kids rush to opposite side to grab the other team’s flag. If a player gets tagged on the opponent’s side of the field, they go to jail (a designated spot on the field away from the game). The jailed player can only be back in the game when a teammate frees them.
2. Where to Run Next?
This is quite an intensive running game and all that’s needed are pieces of paper with run-to locations written on them.
How To Play
The game has to be played outdoors, preferably around large parks that have plenty of locations to choose from or in school premises. The coach or an adult supervising the game writes the names of different locations and landmarks in the vicinity such as a fountain, equipment shed, flower garden, sandpit and so on. The papers are put in a bag so that no one can see them. One kid pulls out a paper randomly and reads out the location. Then all the players have to run to the location. Once everybody reaches the location, another kid pulls out a paper and reads out the next location and everybody run there.
3. Candy Hunting Game
A fun running game for young children that involves retrieving candies.
How To Play
Take the kids out to an open field and spread out lots of individually wrapped candies on the grass. The game is to run from the starting point, find a candy and run back with it. The kids are allowed to come back with only one candy at a time and drop it at the starting line. Once they have done that, they can run back to get another candy. The kid who brings back the most candies wins the game.
4. The Puzzle Game
The game involves the thrill of hunting packages containing puzzle pieces and finally putting together the puzzle.
How To Play
A large floor puzzle containing about 40 pieces or so is put into several envelopes and placed at different distances from the base. When the whistle is blown the kids run to find and retrieve one envelope at a time back to the base. They need to run several trips to different locations to collect all the envelopes. Finally, the pieces are put together to complete the puzzle.
5. Water Balloon Relay
Water games are always a fun. And, any game involving water balloons is a blast! For this one, you’ll need plenty of water balloons and a bucket to hold them.
How To Play
The game is played similar to a normal relay, except, using sloshy water balloons instead of batons. The kids have to run fast while balancing the balloon, careful not to drop it. If one is dropped, they can run back to the bucket and pick up and other one and get back to the place where they dropped it to continue the run. The winning team gets one water balloon for each runner and 30 seconds to soak the losing team.
6. Marathon Challenge
Long distance runners start out young.
How To Play
Children are not physically equipped to run as far as 10 or 20km in one stretch. Therefore the distance is broken down into segments that can be achieved every day. Keep a distance log for each child and let them run as far as they can each day. As they reach levels such as 3 or 5Km, give them levels of experience like in martial arts. 2km can be a white belt, 4 km - a yellow and so on. When the marathon is complete, give them a marathon challenge T-shirt.
7. Sharks and Minnows
A fun running game where kids have to run while avoiding getting tagged.
How To Play
The kids are split into two groups and start out from either side of the field. In the centre of the field is one kid who is a shark, the rest are minnows. When the whistle is blown, the minnows sprint across the field to reach the opposite side without getting tagged by the shark. If a minnow is tagged, it becomes a shark and goes after other minnows. The last minnow remaining is the winner.
Running games not only boost physical fitness levels of kids but are also fun and enriching as they learn to play as a team and adhere to rules.
Running games help kids work on their physical strength, body mobility, and endurance level; and are PERFECT for body smart-oriented kids. If you want to know more about your child’s other ‘smarts’ and make sure that his development is taking in all sense, do try FirstCry Intellikit - active learning for little ones.

How to Teach Kids to be Respectful towards Others
Parents need to remember that children are very observant; that's how they learn, and being a good example of what you want your child to learn is one of the most important things that you can do for your child. If your child sees you give up your seat for an elderly person, they are likely to ask you why you did it, giving you an opportunity to explain to your child about respecting elderly. There are so many opportunities that you can grab on a daily basis and turn into your own respect lessons for kids.
How do Young Children Behave during their Growing Age?
Two sisters sitting in a park on a summer day.Below are some of the behavioural traits of children as they grow-up:
New Born Behaviour: Newborns are helpless and cannot do anything for themselves. You must satisfy their need to feel loved.
Infant Behaviour: Infants learn to recognize people and love to be doted on by family. As they near the one-year mark, they begin to crawl and explore the world around them. Under careful supervision, infants should be allowed and encouraged to learn how to interact with the world.
Toddler Behaviour: Toddlers long to please their parents and often try to do so by imitation. During this time, they act rather impulsively and find it hard to control themselves. They are also quite self-centred and may not like to share.
Preschool Behaviour: Children of this age tend to be less self-centred and more helpful. They also become more outgoing and friendly. At this age, they start to realize when they make mistakes. Teaching respect to preschoolers is easy as they want to please their parents and imitate them.
School Going Child Behaviour:Children become close to their peers and start to become more influenced by them. They may start to take less interest in family activities. Children of this age want to be more independent and socialize more with others of their age.
Adolescence: Teenagers are going through many changes in their physical and sexual growth. They are at an age where they are transitioning from childhood and into adulthood. They try to act like adults, often resulting in them behaving in a rebellious manner. It is during this time when they are perceived as kids with no respect.
At What Age Should you Teach Kids about Respect?
Teaching your kid's respect can never be done too early. By behaving the way you want your kids to behave, you set a good precedent for them to follow. It is especially damaging to a child if they are not treated in a respectful manner by adults as they learn to treat others the way they themselves are treated.
Pre-schoolers are at the age where they are beginning to have more consciousness of their mistakes. This is the ideal time to really start teaching them good manners and how to behave in a respectful way towards others. This is especially important since they are now starting to have more interaction with others outside the home.
How to Teach a Child to be Respectful and Good Manners?
How to explain respect to a child? This is a question on every parent’s mind. Below are some tips to teach kids to respect others:
1. Be Sensitive
Being sensitive to the needs of your child often results in them learning to be sensitive towards the needs of others as they grow.
2. Speak Well
Always use a respectful tone when speaking to children. If you speak rudely to them, they will learn to speak rudely to others!
3. Positive Reinforcement
It is important to not only correct your child but to also reward them for the right behaviour. For example, if their grandmother was to bake them cookies and they thanked her, you could respond with, “It was nice of you to thank grandma. I’m sure she worked really hard and felt appreciated.” As they have managed to earn your praise, they are more likely to do it again.
4. Be Patient
Most children are self-centred and do not want to listen when they are being corrected. Instead of losing your temper, be patient with them as this teaches them to be patient with others in difficult situations in the future.
5. Be A Good Counsellor
Sometimes young children have problems in social situations, and it is up to you to hear them out and help them through any difficulties that they may be experiencing.
6. Correct Your Child On The Spot
A lot of the time, a young child may not even realize that what they are doing is not acceptable. For example, your child may interrupt you while you are having a conversation. The best approach is to excuse yourself, take your child aside and politely let them know right then that what they are doing is wrong and why.
7. Set Realistic Behavioural Expectations:
Explain to your child the way you expect them to behave in different situations. If you are at a restaurant, explain to your child that they need to sit decently at the table and mind their table manners as it is not appropriate to run around while people are dining.
8. Teach Table Manners
People love to celebrate by having feasts and can be sensitive towards proper dining etiquette. Teaching kids respect with activities makes things more interesting for your kids. Try pretending the queen is coming for dinner as you teach them table manners.
9. Story Telling
You can use stories for children to teach them respect. Ask them to figure out which of the characters in the stories that are respectful and the ones that are not.
Ways to Handle Disrespectful Behaviour in Young Kids
Here are some effective ways of handling your child if they are disrespectful:
1. Provide Consequences
If your child is indulging in bad behaviours, like interrupting your conversation, firmly warn your child of the consequences if they do not stop. E.g., “If you do not stop interrupting when I am having a conversation, then you will have to go to your room.”
2. Follow Through
Follow through on any consequences your child was warned of if he persists in that behaviour.
3. Restitution
Children need to be taught that they need to take responsibility for their behaviour. If your child purposely throws things around while angry, make the child clean up the mess he made as a consequence of his bad behaviour.
Despite the bustle of this fast-paced life, make time to spend with your children and really listen to them when you do. Get together regularly for a family night and just have fun. When you give your child your time and take them seriously, they do not develop feelings of loneliness and resentment, which often causes them to act out in defiance.
Parents must also remember to treat each other with respect as this is vital in teaching children to respect their parents. If children feel connected to their parents and their parents to each other, feelings of mutual trust and respect are promoted. Read more

5 Types of Kitchen and Pantry Must-Haves for Your Baby This Winter!
Winter is coming! We’re all waiting for it, aren’t we? ‘Tis the season of joy, hot cocoa, and glittery, tree-filled holidays! And, if you’re living in a tropical country, that slight dip in temperature is solace after all the warmer months.
Winter is also the time for staying indoors, cosied up with warm soup and baby cuddles. So, here’s a thought – why not take one big grocery trip for those essentials that you will need for your little one this winter, so that your pantry and kitchen are well-stocked! This will be particularly helpful for expecting couples, so that when the baby comes, all that the new parents will need to focus on is food, poop, clean, and sleep - and repeat!
There are a few types of kitchen and pantry essentials that all parents of newborns and toddlers need for long term use, such as storage bottles, baby-friendly utensils and cutlery, and breast pumps. Now, we’re not saying that you don’t have them at home… But who can say no to a sweet little shopping opportunity, right? (wink wink)
Let’s gear up for a wonderfully wintry season!
1. Milk Storage Bottles
To answer your question, yes, these are different from feeding bottles! Milk storage bottles are meant exclusively for storing milk.
Storage bottles come in either glassware or food-grade, heat-able plastic, which makes for easy storage and warming. Be sure to choose BPA-free plastic bottles! And, don’t worry, baby milk storage bottles are built to withstand the temperature range from freezing cold to nourishing warmth, so go ahead and invest in a set, of which you can make the most for a long time to come.
Check out these adorable (and aptly-named!) storage bottles, and this sturdy and classic bottle set.
2. Bottle Warmers
Bottle warmers are an easy and convenient alternative to heating up cold-stored baby milk. They are usually electric, and come in a variety of forms. Some are quite simple, and pack only a heating element and a temperature gauge. Some others come with timers, cooling sections, and additional compartments for baby food jars or containers. You can get a portable one, a solid and sturdy one, or a compact, travel-friendly one (What? Yes!).
Bottle warmers are great for new parents who haven’t gotten the hang of using traditional milk-warming methods, working parents, and stay-at-home parents who’d like 15 minutes to themselves. Pick a machine within a comfortable price range for you, and say goodbye to worries about getting to that perfect milk temperature for your hungry little one!
Get this Babyhug bottle warmer that also acts as a steriliser, either of 1-bottle capacity or 6-bottle capacity. Get a baby milk plus food warmer, or a compact little bottle warmer that’s designed for tight spaces and plenty of travel!
3. Breast Pumps
This little piece of equipment has been a game-changer for moms who want the breast milk diet for their babies, but are unable to directly breastfeed. This can be due to various reasons, such as nipple issues, latching problems, lack of privacy or space, the need to go back to work after maternity leave ends, and so on.
A breast pump can be manually operated, battery powered, or electric. It can also be a single (used for one breast) or a double (for both breasts). Breast pump flanges or shields (the part that fits over your nipple and areola to create a vacuum) come in a few general sizes, but it’s important to understand what size will best fit your nipple, to maximise efficiency and minimise pain or stress.
You can start with Babyhug’s classic manual breast pump, or its dual-function, manual-cum-electric pump If you want to avoid manual pumping completely, go for its super-cool electric breast pump. Most electric pumps have at least two modes – stimulation and expression. That’s awesome, right? So, make sure to choose one that has plenty of functionality!
We can go on and on about breast pumps and their usefulness. But, we’ll leave you with this: find a good breast pump that works best for you, and you’ll suddenly feel ready to take on the world!
4. Baby Cutlery
Baby cutlery is the cutest. Little spoons and forks made for tiny hands, and in so many shapes, colours, and themes – why do adults have to use such boring silverware?
Cutlery for babies usually comes in safe plastic, and stainless steel. Plastic spoons and forks are also usually heat-proof. But, the best part? Baby cutlery is specific to age and developmental stage! If your little one is just starting to use his little hands for grasping, then these training spoons will be perfect. For classic utility and faster feeding times, these Babyhug dual-scoop spoons will serve you well.
If your little one love colours and animated characters, try this adorable cutlery set, and this quintessential set of colourful baby spoons (you can never have too many!), both from the sweet world of Babyhug.
5. Baby Feeding Bowls
Just like cutlery, baby utensils are one of the most adorable items that our tiny tots use! They, too, come in a myriad of shapes and themes. (Wow. Babies are so lucky.)
Feeding bowls and plates are available widely. Always choose food-grade and BPA-free plastic, melamine, or steel. Try not to go for glassware, as babies are full of energy and movement, and you wouldn’t want to keep cleaning harmful glass shards off the floor.
Check out this engaging honeybee plate and bowl set that is sure to make mealtimes fun! For classic yet colourful bowls, this is a must-have set from Babyhug. And, who can leave out a novelty Disney Mickey Mouse bowl from essential baby feeding equipment!
Schedule that shopping trip soon, and let the goodies come pouring into your home! Did someone say Santa Claus is coming to town?

Your Baby This Week : 10 Month Week 3 Old
Your child’s ability to vocalize is improving, and he will say his first words any time now. First, the words don’t always have an exact definition.. The “dog” may mean anything with four legs, and “ba-ba” can mean a water bottle, teddy bear, bye-bye or all three. A scream may sound awful to you but to your baby, it’s just another way to flex your vocal cords. Many children go through a phase in which they are crying out loud and for a long time, sometimes just for the fun of it. (Lucky for you!) Please be patient these screaming episodes are soon to become less intense and less frequent. Usually, the target of screaming is to get something from you. Ensure that the essential requirements have been met, and he’s not hungry, tired, cold, etc), and provide a lot of non-verbal, physical signs of affection, like holding his hand.

Therapeutic Touch - The Healing Power of 'Touch Therapy'
In a world that is dominated by technology, it can get easy to lose touch with our inner selves. We lose our intuitive abilities and get desensitized to the beautiful everyday sensations of nature, our surroundings, and various visual and auditory elements. Therapeutic touch is an ancient Ayurvedic self-massaging technique that connects your body to your spirit.
You become mindful of yourself and eventually, this deep connection evolves into something similar to being one with your soul/body. Your body and mind can do powerful things when tapped into and Snehana essentially dives deep into that.
What is Therapeutic Touch?
Fast forward to the 21st century and we have millions of people being treated with the ancient art of touch therapy. In a nutshell, therapeutic touch involves the art of gently massaging and feeling your skin from top to bottom. You use circular motions and feel your skin, bones, and press gently, with the intention to be healthy and live a mindful life.
During this massaging phase, you could slowly ask your mind questions about any aches or pains or even tune in and listen to your body. If pain makes itself felt, you soothe it by massaging yourself in that area until you get relief. The key takeaway here is you don't just stop after the relief. You harmonize your energy fields by working your whole body with your hands, irrespective of whether the pain goes away or not.
How Does Touch Therapy Work?
Touch therapy works on the belief that humans are energy beings. Essentially, we have energy fields that surround our bodies and are connected with the universe. When there are any imbalances in this field, we end up getting disorders or health illnesses. Some examples of physical pain manifesting from energetic imbalances include back pain, a sprained nerve, hypertensive disorders, poor blood circulation, and fractures. Also, when restoring energetic imbalances, we tend to view the body bilaterally or asymmetrically. If one side of your shoulder has an energetic imbalance while the rest of your body seems fine, you're going to eventually feel it and that's just the way it works.
Benefits and Uses of Touch Therapy
Some of the benefits and uses of touch therapy are-
1. Helps Eliminate Cravings
Do you struggle with overeating, food addictions or have a lack of appetite? Touch therapy will help you deal with these and work towards a healthier you. Many people around the world are using touch therapy for weight loss transformations.
2. Beats Depression
One of the biggest benefits of touch therapy is mental and physical relaxation. Simply setting aside the time to connect with yourself can do wonders for your physical and emotional self.
3. Helps Dementia
A 2009 study published involved 65 test subjects who were home residents diagnosed with dementia. Touch therapy was given to them for 3 weeks after the test subjects were split into three groups. One was given with contact, the second group with sham treatment and the third group was provided with routine healthcare. The group with touch therapy treatment had reduced impulsiveness and forgetfulness compared to the other two.
4. Activates Your Deep Relaxation Response
Just like how your body has a fight-or-flight response when driven by anxiety and panic, it also has a deep relaxation response. Touch therapy triggers this and lets your nerves and tendons relax. Relaxing your muscles and organs also means you'll release stress and any negative blockages which may eventually develop into health problems later in life.
5. Balances Your Energy Fields
Humans are said to be magnetic beings. Have you ever wanted to open your third eye or increase your intuition? This is possible when you feel a sense of connectedness with the universe. And that starts with balancing your energy fields which touch therapy does.
6. Provides Pain Relief
If you're suffering from chronic illnesses or any incurable diseases, then touch therapy helps alleviate some of that pain. It helps patients relax, and let go.
7. Promotes Deep Healing
Sometimes you have energy blockages which manifest into physical health issues when left unchecked. Touch therapy tackles these areas in a way that they're fixed even before they manifest. This means any possible health complications which have gone undetected by medical diagnosis in the early stages can be addressed.
8. Balances Your Emotions
Have you ever wanted to feel emotionally healthy? Ever wondered why you're gloomy or constantly negative? Touch therapy will help you unlock your subconscious mind and clear it from negativity and self-doubt. This translates to you being a healthier and happier version of yourself down the line. And who wouldn't want that?
9. Gives You Restful Sleep
A session of touch therapy before going to bed is exactly what you need to beat insomnia and get restful sleep. You will find yourself waking up feeling refreshed, energized, and vitalized to face the day.
10. Works on Animals Too
The benefits of touch therapy are applicable to more than just humans. If you have any pets in the house who are facing discomfort, be it physical or mental - try touch therapy.
Does Touch Therapy Help You Connect with Yourself?
Yes. Touch therapy helps you connect with yourself. When you first start practising touch therapy techniques, you will inculcate the habit of connecting mindfully to your surroundings. What this means is that you'll become more aware and your consciousness will expand. You will notice the vibrant colours in your surroundings, hear noises you couldn't hear before in the background, and really know what it feels to touch things with your skin and feel the textures. It's a relaxing sensory experience that offers you a host of health benefits. The Snehana technique follows this self-realization of touch to become aware of your body and connect with yourself.
Steps to Do Snehana at Home
Here are the steps on how to do Snehana at home:
To do Snehana, you need a quiet spot in your home. A nature backdrop works and if you have a lawn to relax and let loose, that's great too. Pick a spot where nobody will disturb you and you get an uninterrupted block of time.
Start by getting some sesame or plant-based oil (like olive oil) and gently apply it to your hands and skin. Begin by massaging from the top of your head to the arms, shoulders, and down your body. Use gentle circular motions and don't go fast when stimulating these touch therapy points.
When covering the chest, be gentle and never work from bottom to top since it places a strain on your heart and taxes your organs.
The order in which you do touch therapy massage does not matter as long as you massage in the same rhythm and motions.
Just make sure you cover your whole body
Take your time and enjoy the relaxing sensation.
Breathe mindfully throughout the process and when you're done, get up and go for a bath to end your relaxing moment on a good note.
You can even practice touch therapy for couples to rekindle your physical intimacy and foster a deeper bond of love.
FAQs
Here are a few common frequently asked questions by our readers. We answer how touch therapy makes a difference, how it compares to Reiki and much more below.
1. When Can Touch Therapy be Helpful?
You can incorporate touch therapy time as a daily healthy routine or for treating a disease or for pain relief from chronic conditions.
2. Is Therapeutic Touch Different From Healing Touch?
The two have a slight distinction. Although both work with the energy field, therapeutic touch stimulates the natural healing ability in the body, while the healing touch alters and enhances the energy field of the individual to speed up the healing process.
3. Does Connecting with 'Self' Require Special Skills?
No, it doesn't. The only special skill you need is blocking out some time for the practice. Really, that's it. Everybody has the ability to connect to themselves and feel their spiritual side. And touch therapy helps you make that connection and foster it. It's an absolutely natural process and doesn't require special training, diet, or remedies - it's as natural as breathing.
4. Is Therapeutic Touch the Same as Reiki?
No, it isn't. There are some distinct differences between the two. No attunement is needed for applying healing touch practices on the body. The concept behind healing touch is to transfer life energy and kickstart the healing mechanism. In the case of Reiki, we deal with building up, storing, and using chi (life force energy) to remove blockages. You could think of healing touch as energy medicine that works from outside to the inside, with the inside fostering deep healing capabilities over time. Whereas, in the case of Reiki, it's more about building up your healing mechanism from the inside by gathering and circulating chi. If you combine Reiki and Healing Touch together in your energy medicine therapies, you're bound to experience fantastic results which many people across the globe swear by, despite insufficient medical investigations and data-backed evidence.
Although therapeutic touch works for many, sometimes the results won't be immediate. You will feel a relaxation response though and just have to give it enough time to work. With enough time and a consistent ritual, you'll notice your emotions becoming healthier, feel lighter, and slowly notice any physical illnesses which aren't life-threatening repair or melt away. Another way to fast track results is to watch what you eat as diet also plays a part in energy medicine and various physical therapies.

A. Antibiotics may be necessary if you have an infection. Over-the-counter pain medications and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines relieve discomfort if the lump is painful or the area around it is swollen. Removing the lump may be necessary if it's due to lipomas, cysts or other skin issues.

A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. Please take Shatavari powder with milk twice a day to increase breast milk supply. Also feed the baby often which also helps in increasing breast milk supply. Masaage your breasts gently before feeding the baby. You can also use breast pump to take out milk which also helps in production of breast milk.
Thanks and take care
