15 Effective Parenting Tips for Parents of Preschoolers
Preschoolers are known for their brimming energy and curious minds which keeps you on your toes all the time. This is the stage when they get to learn more and acquire new skills. As wonderful as it may sound, but as a parent of a preschooler, you know how challenging it is to match with never-ending energy levels.
Best Parenting Tips for Preschoolers
Here are some parenting tips for parents of preschoolers.
1. Polishing their Communication Skills
Communication skills of toddlers are equally important. Clearer their communication skills are, better they will fare with other kids and teachers once they start commuting to a preschool.
2. Teach her to be a Good Listener
We all know that it’s challenging to contain the capricious mind of a toddler. However, at preschool she will have to take part in various activities such as singing, drawing, listening to her teacher’s explanation and so on. All these will require her to sit still and pay attention. Being a good listener will help her proactively take part in various activities at her preschool.
3. Encourage Teamwork
Again, apart from spending time at home, she will be spending a good 4-5 hours with other kids and teachers at her preschool, taking part in various group activities. These activities require teamwork, and you can encourage this skill in her by playing games with her at home.
4. Teach her to Follow Instructions
At a young age, we learn through instructions and directions given to us. However, it won’t go that easy, if you don’t know how to follow directions. In preschool, your child will take directions from her teacher to take part in various fun activities. Guide her how to follow instructions by playing games with her, give her fun tasks and take part in it with her.
5. Helping her to Work with Stationery
Preschools offer various activities which require the use of objects such as pencil, crayon, scissors, wax or colour pencils. You can help her how to handle them correctly by encouraging her to draw and write more. You can teach her writing strokes of alphabets, numbers, etc.
6. Encourage her to be Independent
At home, you are there to wipe and clean her after various activities such as eating or playing. You are there to help her to wash her hands before and after her meal. However, while in preschool you can’t be there with her. Encourage her to be independent so she can wipe her mouth or nose, or wash her hands on her own. It also generates a sense of responsibility and independence in them, which will be helpful for them in the coming years.
7. Have a Set Routine
Having a set routine for various activities such as playing, meal, snack, sleep, etc., is important for both of you. Not only it will teach discipline to your kid, but it will also help you manage your own time efficiently. Another advantage is that you won’t have to run after them each time to remind them to have their meals on time or to put them to bed.
8. Try Not to be Too Strict
Discipline should not be confused with strictness. Children tend to be stubborn if you are too strict with them. Instead talk to them in a friendly manner, win their trust so they can communicate to you without fear. It will also help you to have a strong bond with them.
9. Don’t Give in to Their Tantrums
Having said that, you can’t be too mellow as well. Try to find the right balance that is neither too strict nor too soft. Don’t put a blind eye to your child’s tantrums, instead, direct them to do something else if they are throwing their tantrum over something. The best way is to identify the cause of their such behaviour. Is it due to hunger or sleep, or are they tired?
10. Don’t Treat them Like an Adult
Many parents expect way too much out of their children. Try to understand that they are still at a delicate learning stage, and, they are still kids. Don’t expect to understand everything you tell them immediately. Have patience and let them learn their own pace. The important thing is that you encourage them to learn and keep on trying. You may want to find out what interests and motivates them. Be creative when you give them tasks, and ensure that it’s fun for both of you rather than a chore which you have to go through.
11. Don’t be a “No” Person Always
It might be challenging, but there are ways to go about it. Try not to say, “No” very often. A kid’s heart is quite sensitive, and they may feel unloved, or undesirable if you say no to them often. Moreover, it might also lead to a rebelling attitude in them. Try talking to them at their level, and nicely explain the situation if you have to say no to something.
12. Praise them for Being Good
Compliment them for their good work. It would positively encourage a child. On the other hand, if they have done something wrong then let them know why it is wrong. Such awareness will make them conscious of what they are doing and whether it will have a negative consequence.
13. Don’t Put too Many Things on Her Plate
Every child is different and learns at her own pace. As a parent, of course, you will have certain expectations of her. However, it is also a job of a parent to understand their child and accept their capabilities. Don’t try to put too many things on her plate at once, remember she is still a kid. Keep a balanced schedule which is comfortable for her.
14. Be a Role Model to Them
They will be spending most of their time with you. And how you behave, what you do, how you do things, etc., all of these impact on their development. Be a role model to them so they can look up to you.
15. Creating Strong Bond
Raising a kid can be challenging, but it’s a learning phase for both, i.e., a parent and child. It is important that you are engaged in fun activities together. Doing things together will help you create trust and a strong bond with your child. You should be a parent as well as a friend to them whom they can rely upon without hesitation.
Some Mistakes Parents Make with Preschoolers
No parent wants less for their kids, every single one of them thinks best in their child’s interests. However, many a time, those good intentions of parents backfires, or demotivate their child. Below are few parental tips for preschoolers to avoid some common mistakes.
1. Setting Bad Example
As the saying goes, monkey see monkey do, kids at a young age tend to copy you. You are their live example of almost everything. If you want to teach them a good habit, then start the change from within yourself first. You can't expect them to eat a healthy meal when you are living on potato chips and cookies. Positive parenting for preschoolers will have a positive impact.
2. Being a Yes-Man
Everyone adore their child and usually, it’s hard to say no to those puppy eyes. However, you can’t be a yes-man always. Don’t let your child manipulate you when it’s time to say no, say it, clearly. Also, let them know that why it’s a no.
3. Being Overprotecting
It’s natural for parents to be protective of their kids but being overprotecting hinders their growth. They start to rely way too much on you for almost everything. When parenting preschoolers, you should let them initiate things which they are capable of doing on their own. They will fall down while playing or walking, etc., you don’t have to rush to them each and every time. Let them learn how to stand up on their own.
4. Bribing them
Bribing kids with chocolates or other treats to make them do something is a common approach by parents. However, it won’t solve the problem for good, for example, offering a piece of cake for eating veggies won’t help them like veggies. It might backfire as well, they might start to hate it.
5. Comparing with Siblings
Many parents forget that every child is different and unique in her own way. Don’t compare your child with her siblings. Such behaviour will discourage them and will them feel unloved. They may start to harbour hatred towards their siblings as well.
Parenting a preschooler is challenging, but it’s full of fun as well. You will witness a lot of developments in your kid. Ensure that you don’t force your ideas on them, instead, do your research and find out what motivates them and have a friendly relation with them.

5 Awesome Reasons to Thank Your Dad This Father's Day
Your Dad is your first superhero. Chances are he's your idea of the perfect man and you're his little miss sunshine forever. The way he makes you smile, protects you, and walks you down the aisle on your wedding - there are so many unique reasons to appreciate your dad this Father's Day.
Did you want your Prince Charming to resemble your father? Do you seek your Dad's qualities in your husband who jokingly calls your Dad your first love and role model? For a daughter, her Dad's pride and joy is one of life's best blessings. While your mom's efforts and sacrifices tend to be more conspicuous, your father's love keeps you quietly protected. This Father's Day, say "Thank you" to your amazing Dad.
A Few of the Innumerable Things You Can Thank Your Dad for
1. For Working Hard and Being a Happy Provider
Whether it was new shoes at the start of school, piano lessons, your wardrobe makeover, or your wedding celebration, Daddy made sure you got the finest things. Fathers lead by example to teach their daughters to be happy providers in their families. Get Dad some flowers and show him your appreciation with a big hug.
2. For Taking Time out to be there on Special Occasions
No matter how busy he was with work, he made it to your annual day performance at school. He clapped the longest at your graduation ceremony and cheered you on at your sports matches. He taught you to set priorities and balance family life with work like a pro. It's little wonder that you're doing such a swell job too!
3. For Teaching You Life Skills
While mommy shared her kitchen secrets with you, Daddy helped you build a tree house in the garden and change your bike's flat tyre. He showed you how to unclog the sink and guided you with homework. He taught you to ace sports and those times at the beach were so much fun for his antics! There are many more things a daughter can thank her dad for and these are just a few!
4. For Being Your Protector
Your dad carefully balanced discipline with love. He taught you to stand up for yourself and speak your mind. As a young girl, you proudly told bullies that your dad could beat their dad! You could and still trust him to make things right no matter what turn life takes. Promise to protect your Dad now that he's turning older.
5. For Teaching You to Look at the Larger Picture
Appreciate your father this Father's Day for his big and brave heart. He taught you to be broad-minded, to dream, to think, to not get caught up by petty things in life. He showed you the importance of sticking up for friends and always being honest. Together with his and mom's guidance, you grew up with values that you pass on to your children.
Dad's encouragement and love have motivated you to aim high and you are grateful to him for always being there for you. Though you don't really need reasons to thank your father this Father's Day, this is a good opportunity to express your love and make his day. Watch Dad smile from end to end and be thoroughly proud of his princess!

Cheese-on-Toast Open Sandwich
Made with readily available things in the kitchen, this open sandwich is a convenience incarnate that would never let you down. Crispy toast with gooey cottage cheese i.e. crunch and melt combination, is something that is close to being one of the most perfect foods – with good reasons that is. First, it definitely rises above whatever ingredients we throw in. Second, minimal ingredients, zero fuss and absolutely delicious. We say, over-complicating things is just not for us!
Serves
Preparation
Cooking Time
2 People
20-25 Minutes
5-10 Minutes
Ingredients
100 g cottage cheese
2 tsps milk
4 bread toasts
1 tbsp cream, full-fat
Salt, as per taste
Veggies, for decoration
Method
Step 1
For preparing cottage cheese, squeeze one medium sized lemon in 500 ml warm milk. Keep stirring slowly for 5 minutes. Cover the vessel with a cloth and let it sit for an hour.
Step 2
After the curd seperates from the whey, pour this into a colander lined with thin muslin cloth. Let the whey drain for about 5 mins.
Step 3
Next, gather the ends of the cloth and rinse the semi-solid mass under running water. Do this for around 3-4 minutes so that the sour taste of lemon goes away.
Step 4
Now add 1 tbsp of cream, 2 tsps of milk, a pinch of salt, and mix thoroughly. Make it point to not make it very runny. It should be solid enough to stay on the toast. You can other spices at this time. Italian spices like oregano and thyme would make things more interesting.
Step 5
Now, take a spoonful of cottage cheese and spread it on the toast. If you find circular shapes in toasts, you can use the veggies to prepare the face of a fat cat as shown in the image.
Step 6
Otherwise use your imagination and conjure up these fantastic open-sandwiches.

Married and Living Apart: Stay Connected from the Heart
Married but living apart? It could work well for couples who still hold each other close through emails, voice notes, and video calls. But all's not hunky dory always. Distance can play havoc and create uncomfortable spaces between a people too. Find out about all this and more.
Married couples are now increasingly choosing to ‘live happily ever after’ by staying apart. Making every possible move for a stronger, happier relationship, they're finding more love by not staying cheek-to-cheek. They claim that by putting geographical miles inbetween them, they're able to understand each other better, as opposed to those sharing the same roof. Take a look.
To Live or Not to Live with Your Partner
1. Living Together - A Good idea?
As per relationship and psychology experts, living together for the sake of it may not be a good idea for couples interested in keeping their bond fresh perennially. By being married but living apart they avoid the common trap of observing too closely and taking their spouses for granted. The arrangement allows each partner the freedom to pursue interests at will and spend their time as they wish.
2. Not Accepted Everywhere
Those who're married and living apart may have gained popularity in the West, but this momentum is yet to catch up in other countries, like India. It's because couples here still nurture the responsibility of their elderly parents, and unless they have a very problematic marriage, they rarely live apart. Mostly, having separate bedrooms in the same house serves to be the way out. As living separately may make the commitment wither away, such situations are best avoided.
3. What The Current Generation Thinks
While those who're old school may find the idea of being married and living apart a bit difficult to digest, younger couples find nothing wrong with it. In fact, the ones in their early 30s feel that it's a grand way of keeping the spark alive, which may have gone south otherwise. With workplace stress, frequent travelling, diverse extra-curricular activities and separate sets of friends fast becoming an order of the day, it makes sense to create that much-needed space. And yes, the arrangement works exceedingly well for those wading through troubled waters of marriage.
4. Be Aware
Along with having a clear idea about reasons behind staying apart, the couple should evaluate the consequences of running two separate households at different locations. There should be no cause to harbor any suspicions or expect ulterior motives to linger behind this choice. It’s best they discuss things out, accepting the marriage as undergoing a state of crisis.
5. Take Stock of The Situation
You shouldn't stay separately while fighting financial constraints; matters will only turn worse. Also, if you have any deep suspicions regarding your partner's fidelity, have children or parents to take care of, or feel the marriage can fall apart, then living away from each other will only elevate misery.
You're in the same boat and instead of getting influenced by others or relying on general discussions for the way forward, take stock of your marriage situation and act accordingly. If you feel distance will make you appreciate each other more, then go ahead with the married couples living apart arrangement. Else, stay close to mend what's broken. Read more

Hrithik Roshan Shares a Beautiful Poem on Conquering Fears
They say we never really grow up, we just learn how to act in public. No matter the number of candles on your cake, there is still a child in all of us. And Hrithik Roshan just reached out and gave a gentle nudge to that child in all of us.
From planning the entire film so that his second thumb will never be caught on camera, to becoming forthcoming about his dyslexia, his stammering, and how he has overcome all that to become the heartthrob of an entire nation, Hrithik Roshan has come a long, long way. It has not been an easy journey, but it has been very vividly fruitful. So who better than Hrithik to talk about conquering your fears?
In a candid and raw free-verse poem, Hrithik Roshan recently shared a powerful thought with all the young minda of the country, addressing the fear that remains alive in all of us, even as we grow up. As a child, it is about small, practical things – fear of falling down from the swing, stage-fright, etc. But as we grow older, this fear can have the power to change the course of our life... if we let it.
Instead, Hrithik says, “Kuchh alag kar.” (Try something different.)
