10 Best Activities for 9 Months Old Baby
Activities are great fun for babies. It gives them a chance to play, interact, explore and learn new things thereby developing different skills. Here is an article to tell you about some of the best activities for a 9-month-old.
What Development can you Expect from your 9 Month-Old Baby?
A 9 month-old will have the following developments:
As your little one gets to the 9-month mark, she will start crawling through the whole house. Some become such expert crawlers that they can also crawl up and down the stairs!
Apart from being expert crawlers, a 9-month-old can easily change positions. From a crawling position to the standing position (with the help and support of chairs or something to hold on to).
Your little one’s fine motor skills improve making it easy for her to pick up small toys and which shape block goes into which shape hole etc.
She can babble non-stop and even pronounce one syllable words.
She may start understanding what you are talking about and reciprocate by a cooing sound or by passing a smile.
She can sit down without any support unlike her earlier months when she would require support.
Learning Activities for your 9 Month-Old Baby
These 9-month baby activities are easy and fun. Listed below are ten 9 month-old baby development activities.
1. Dropping in the Bucket
Drop a block or a toy in the bucket. When the toy/block touches the bottom of the bucket, you can say “dhap”(for instance). Repeat the same for a few more times. Then drop another block or a toy but this time remains silent while doing so. Just see whether she tries imitating the word. Let her also drop the toys or blocks inside the bucket or empty out the bucket. This activity develops fine motor skills as well as language skills.
2. Squeak and Hide
Take a squeaky toy and squeeze it so that it makes a squeaky sound. Hide it behind your back or under the blanket or behind the cushion. Let your baby try to look for it. You can do the activity until the time she does not lose interest in it. This simple game is great for cognitive development in babies. It also helps in developing auditory skills and object permanence.
3. Ball Rolling
Roll a medium sized blow-up ball towards your baby. See whether he stops it or not. Then encourage her to roll it back. Even if she does not, applaud her. You can ask your spouse to join in. This activity develops gross motor skills, teaches about taking turns and imitating.
4. Hide-and-Seen
Place a big carton and make sure it is comfortable without anything pricky inside. You can keep a soft towel or blanket inside. Place your baby inside and duck her in. Then pretend as if you cannot find her. On seeing her, give a squeal of excitement. Allow her to explore the box. This activity strengthens visual tracking, develops gross motor skills and social skills and teaches object permanence.
5. Clapping and Singing
Babies start clapping by the time they are 9 months old. Sing some nursery rhymes and clap along. Encourage her to clap to the rhythm. This helps the toddlers develop control of their muscles and hand-eye coordination. It also helps them to learn about rhythms.
6. Water Play
Bath time activity can be a great learning experience for the baby. When you talk to your baby, it helps in the little one’s language development, your baby playing with the bubbles can help her develop hand and eye coordination, your little one having fun while squeezing the water from a sponge or splashing water is a great way to develop her social-emotional skills etc. It is a time when apart from touch, a baby’s other senses also get activated.
7. Strolling on a Stroller
This is one of the best outdoor activities for a 9-month-old. Take your baby for strolls. It can be a stroll at the park, a stroll to the nearest supermarket to fetch groceries or just along the road. Let her watch people walking by, children playing, dogs barking etc. Let her just explore the play equipment in a park. You can also sit on a swing or slide down a slide with your baby in the lap. These “outside” experiences will help to stimulate her multi-sensory faculties.
8. Sand Play
Now that your baby can sit all by herself, make her sit on the sand pit and allow her to play with the sand. Let her pull out the small shovel, check out the small buckets, the spades etc. It is a great activity to develop your baby’s fine mother skills. However, be cautious enough not to allow sand to get into your little one's eye.
9. Treasure Basket
In a basket or a box (the size should be such that your baby should be able to sit and see the things inside the basket/box), put a wide range of things. Some may be natural like fruits or vegetables; some may be man-made (non-toxic). The things should be of different colours, textures, shapes, and sizes. The things need not be expensive but something found in and around the house, in the garden, beach, park etc. Encourage her to pick up something, explore the basket by examining the things in it, putting them in her mouth, feeling the texture, banging them against other objects or on the floor etc. This is a great activity to stimulate the baby’s senses, and also develop the different skills like fine motor, cognitive and gross motor.
10.Reading
Toddlers may benefit from picture reading books. These books have more of pictures and less of writing. Try and modulate your voice a bit while reading it out to your baby. Children who start reading early in life (even if it is picture reading books), develop a love for reading and inculcate a habit of reading, both of which are great qualities!
Tips to Consider
Make sure she has interest in the activity. If she shows disinterest, do not force your baby to participate in it. Instead, try doing something else that she may enjoy.
Make sure that the toys or objects used in the activities are non-toxic.
Do not leave her unattended even for a second during an activity. Always be alert. A little carelessness on your part could result in (god forbid!) harming your little one. For instance, during sand play, sand may get into her eyes if you are not careful or swallow something which she should not.
In case of activities where she may have to move around, she may hurt herself by knocking herself against a wall or by falling down.
Keep her barefoot always. It helps her to get the correct posture while learning to walk. Moreover, 9-month-olds feet have higher tactile sensory processing which plays a big role in the baby’s neurological development. In case, it is too cold; then you could make her wear anti-skid socks which will spare her from skidding or falling down while moving around.
Every baby grows at its own pace. Children developing new skills need lots of practice, so each activity can be done over and over again. You need not buy fancy toys for these fun activities. All you need is a lot of patience and the zeal to help your child develop the essential skills.

Late Bloomer Child - Causes and Parenting Tips
If your child isn’t hitting his developmental milestones at times most parenting books or websites say he should, don’t worry too much. They are just guidelines for the average development of children. Every child is unique and is going to develop at his or her own speed. Some develop early, and some are late bloomers. If your child is a little late, it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with him.
How to Tell If Your Child is a Late Bloomer
Watch out for the following to know if your child is going through late bloomer child development:
Has not rolled over on his own by the age of five months
Can’t sit up with support by the age of eight months
Is not interested in experimenting with crayons and does not even try to feed himself by the age of one year
Has not yet attempted to walk by the age of eighteen months
Has not spoken a single comprehensive word by the age of two
What Factors Influence a Child’s Development
Some factors that may influence a child’s development include:
1. Temperament
The nature of your child will directly affect the way your child develops. For example, children with a more persistent nature may refuse to relent until they have mastered a certain skill, say rolling over. This means that they will reach their milestones faster. However, some children may not have such persistent natures and are more likely to give up faster, slowing down the speed at which they master a certain skill and reach a certain milestone.
2. Environment
Babies who are pampered by adoring family members may not reach their milestones as fast because they are being coddled and not given the opportunity. They are rarely given a chance to reach for their ball as someone will always reach out to give it to them or they rarely learn how to communicate properly as someone is always there to ensure they have everything they need, leaving them with no need to try and call out for his or her mother. Children need to get the opportunity to try things for themselves as it will help them to reach their milestones faster.
3. Muscle Tone
If your child has low muscle tone, it will make it much harder to initiate or even maintain movement. Children with weaker muscle tone may be floppier than others, and when you try to move their limbs when he is relaxed, there is no tension, and it is very easy to do so. Consult with your doctor for the best kind of physical exercises you can do for your child to help strengthen their muscles. If done so regularly, you will see a change quite fast.
4. Personal Interests
Children all have different personal interests, just as adults do. For children who love to stay close to their mommies, learning how to walk may make them soon realise that it is taking them further away from her and separation anxiety may begin to show. Some children may become so fascinated by drawing with pencils or crayons that they may not really take an interest in learning how to walk as they are more content with their art. Those who are more apt to enjoy their mobility may focus on that and not be very interested in verbal exercises.
5. Parental Interactions
It stands to reason that a lot of your child’s development will also depend on the time they spend with you. Children who are not given enough time by their parents will have to learn on their own, which will slow down their development. Those whose parents opt to spend more time with them, playing and encouraging them to speak, will reach their milestones at a greater speed.
6. Nutrition And Health
A child’s nutrition and health will directly impact their minds and bodies. A healthy child is much more likely to reach the developmental milestones than a child who is sickly or undernourished. A child’s eating and health in early childhood may have long-lasting effects.
Parenting Lessons for a Late Bloomer Child
Here are some lessons a parent should keep in mind while dealing with a late bloomer:
1. Everyone is Different
You may have more than one child, and if your second is not reaching milestones at the same time the first one did, you may panic, but no two children are alike, and each will get to the same stage by the age of three, even if he or she did it slowly differently.
2. Don’t Be Pushy
There is a difference between encouragement and being pushy. While it will benefit your child greatly to be encouraged, do not try to push your child to do things faster. Children must go at their own speed so that they can truly grasp what it is they are learning.
3. Do Not Label
Children should never be labelled and called unintelligent as each person and child has their own strengths and weaknesses. Studies show that negative labelling has a negative impact on children and their sense of self-worth. This, in turn, will impact their development.
When to Worry
Despite children developing at their own pace, there is a certain age bracket by when most children should reach certain milestones. A very young child may take some time to respond to something, but as time passes, the response is meant to get faster. Children should be making eye contact and smiling at their caregivers and parents, they should be trying to interact or move about in some way, and so if your child is not showing any of these signs, and is not even making an attempt, you should consult your doctor.
Late bloomer baby and the early bird will become indistinguishable by the age of five. Until then, if your child seems to be taking his own sweet time with something, don’t fret. As long as you see your child developing, even if it is slow, you can be sure he will be just fine.

This Sitting Posture Can Seriously Damage Your Child's Health - Correct It with These 5 Tips!
When your little one learns to sit, it is a moment of great pride and accomplishment both for him and his mom! Sitting exposes your child to a whole new world and perspective on things, letting him play with his toys better and gain more control over his body language. However, did you know that there is a common posture many kids adopt in their early years that can seriously damage their health?
As parents, this is the sitting posture you must guard against: w-sitting. It involves children sitting on their bottoms with their knees bent. Their feet are tucked under while their legs are out to the side. The overall posture looks like a “W” as shown below. This style is very easy to follow and comes naturally to many kids who are learning to sit. You too may have noticed your little one playing with her toys sitting in a w-position. It appeals to kids as they can balance themselves easily in this position.
[caption id="attachment_192197" align="alignnone" width="759"] Source: https://www.davidwolfe.com/[/caption]
However, sadly, there is a risk of your child developing nasty orthopaedic problems thanks to this position! The most common problem associated with this posture is hip dislocation. It also restricts trunk rotation, twists and turns that prevent the development of mature movement patterns. In the long run, it impacts motor skills, balance and coordination in your child and exposes him to a lifelong risk of weak trunk muscles! Keeping this in mind, you must learn smart ways to encourage better posture habits in kids.
How to Correct Improper Sitting Positions in Children
1. Sit Criss-Cross!
Every time you see your child sitting in a w-shape, teach her to sit cross-legged. One of the most important cross-legged sitting benefits for kids is free torso movement, which accounts for flexibility in them. Your little one might take a little time to get used to sitting criss-cross, so help her by holding her knees together when she sits, till she can comfortably sit criss-cross on her own.
2. Break her Habit
Toddlers have a natural tendency of sitting in a w-position. So, act before it becomes a firm habit. The moment you notice her sitting in a w-shape, immediately ask her to fix her legs. If your child is sitting with legs crossed comfortably, then you have nothing to worry about. In case, she isn't yet comfortable in that position, teach her long sitting i.e. stretching her legs straight in front. You may also teach her to bend both her legs on one side and sit on the floor.
3. Booster Seat
W-sitting in a child should be discouraged as it might lead to orthopaedic problems very soon, such as hip dislocation. Make your toddler sit on a chair at the time of eating, playing, art-work etc. See to it that your kiddo is not kneeling on the chair. To prevent such a situation, use a booster seat along with foot support. Such a seat provides the necessary comfort to the little ones and helps in developing correct sitting posture.
4. Her Own Table-Chair!
Children sitting in w-position need to be taught to sit properly in her chair. This will help her in adapting to her school environment, easily. Get a preschooler chair and table, which is usually half the average height of a pre-schooler. Show her how she should keep her tummy away from the table and pull her chair well under the table. Also, make sure her feet are lying flat on the floor. She will soon get habituated to sitting properly at her ‘work table’.
5. Need Help?
If you witness kids sitting criss-cross uncomfortably you might want to consult a paediatrician. If your little one has flat feet, then she might not be able to sit cross-legged as you would want her to. In spite of your efforts, if your child seems to not get the correct sitting posture, consider consulting a specialist. Read more

Tackling Persistent Sleeping Problems in Babies
Persistent sleep problems can take a toll on the baby's health. It is therefore important for parents to spot the symptoms of any sleep related issue at the earliest and take necessary actions accordingly.
The most challenging aspect that new parents face is to make their baby sleep through the night. Newborn babies have a tendency of waking up at night on a regular basis. This is very common and healthy too as most babies will need their parents at night to feed them and assist them in settling down, for the first six months. However, it is vital for the parents to develop a sleep pattern for the baby as he grows older. For babies who are not able to sleep properly at night, there can be some severe effects on their health.
Methods to Reduce Baby's Sleep Problems
1. Controlled Comforting
Controlled comforting means putting your baby to bed when he is sleepy, but waking him up on time and also leaving him alone for short spans of time, even if he cries. This technique includes spending short spans of time to settle your baby. Put him in his cot and then let him self-settle. To start with, you can leave your baby for two minutes and wait for him to settle down. Even if he hasn’t scettled, go back again and comfort him, but do not take him out of the cot. Once he settles, leave the room for 5 more minutes. Repeat the pattern and increase the time when you both get used to it. It could take about a fortnight for this technique to work. If you have tried it for over two week, and there are no significant results, it is unlikely to work and you should look for other alternatives.
2. Camping Out
Camping out has been proved to be effective with infants. It involves sitting next to your baby as you see him settle-up. But do not remove your baby from the cot. You can start with stroking or patting your child till he falls asleep. After several nights, you can simply sit beside without physical touch. Once your child is used to this, you can move your seat a foot away and gradually move to the doorway and out of the room.
3. Systematic Ignoring
This is similar to controlled comforting but needs a tougher approach. This involves putting your child to bed so that he settles down on his own. If your child cries, you can go inside to change his nappy or to check if he is sick, but you mustn't soothe or interact with him. Once done, leave the room but do not return till your baby stops crying. This method may sound harsh, but this is for the babies who cry because they want the parent’s attention all the time, which can be tiresome and inconvenient for the parents.
4. Waking up on Time
This is important for children, who have persistent night terrors and also those who wake up in the middle of the night. Wake your child up an hour before he is likely to wake up, re-settle and put him to bed again.
Some Common Ways to Deal with Baby’s Sleep Problems
Although babies face a lot of issues in dealing with sleep problems, parents can try the following techniques to tackle with them:
The baby should be exposed to day time activities and the day light. He should be a part in the day’s hustle-bustle
As the bed time of the baby approaches, switch from energizing activities to little sleepy and passive activities. Start reading bed time stories and lullabies to the baby and keep the lights dim.
Give the baby a bath before it is time for him to sleep. This will help calm him down to some extent.
The baby should be fed well before sleep. This way, they sleep for long stretches with their tummies full.
We can't approach baby problems, in the same way, as we tackle sleep issues with older children and adults. The above said methods are safe and will give good results. So try them out and let your little enjoy a sound sleep and good health. Read more

9 Creative ways to Decorate Easter Eggs
Easter is back and it’s time to collect those eggs and brainstorm hard to find the ideas to decorate them. It’s true that there are conventional ways to decorate them, but here we present some innovative and simple Easter eggs decorating ideas, that will steal the show. Get ready to celebrate Easter with a bang this March 27!
Easter eggs decoration is a great way to involve your kid in crafting out his creativity. Give him these simple ideas and let him rejoice seeing his Easter eggs one step ahead of his friends’. All of these are simple and materials used are easily available at your home. So, why wait? Get going and have a blast this Easter.
The eggs have to be hard boiled first, so that your kid doesn’t find it difficult to portray his artistic talent on the egg shells. Make sure that the eggs are cooled before handing it over to your kid.
Easter Egg Decorating Ideas
1. Using Crayons and Paints
Use of crayons is the simplest way to decorate Easter eggs; one that your kid himself can try without much effort. He doesn’t need to prove his artistic talent for this; a simple floral design or may be a scribble will do. While using crayons, see that you use hard boiled eggs that are warm but not too hot. This will help in getting a brighter design. This is because the wax will melt as soon as the crayon touches the warm egg and you wouldn’t need to press hard to make the designs dark. Poster paints are also a good option for older children. The final outcome will also be neater.
2. Egg Smileys
Why not keep tradition away this year and try this simple yet modern way of making Easter eggs? Paint the eggs in yellow and leave them to dry completely. Draw faces with black sketch pen or a marker to create expressions of ‘happy’, ‘oh no!’, ‘sad’ ‘tee hee’ and so on. Your kid will really love doing it!
3. Using Rice
Dye rice with food colour and leave it for about 20-30 minutes. Let the eggs cool completely, after which you can apply glue to it. Roll the eggs on the rice and your pretty Easter eggs are ready.
4. Blackboard Eggs
Does your kid love writing on the blackboard? Then, here is a creative way of doing it. Paint the eggs black and let them dry. Next, draw designs with a chalk. You may also write Easter messages on it and then let the eggs do all the talking for you.
5. Finger Print Eggs
Interested in playing with colours? Then here is a simple but cool way of decorating Easter eggs. Just dip your kid's hands in paint and then create fun, colourful impressions on the eggs. Simple, cost-effective but a great deal of fun!
6. Pressed Flower
Choose some pretty bright coloured flowers- bellflower, amaranth, carnation or lily. Also, look out for some lovely leaves and arrange them on a flower presser or to make it simpler, just place them in a hard bound book. You’ll have to leave them for at least two weeks, so plan accordingly. Place the flowers in a book at least 2-3 weeks before Easter. Later, you can stick these pressed flowers on the egg shells. You can also draw out floral outlines to create unique designs!
7. Elastic Bands
Get some pretty elastic bands and wrap them around the eggs. Leave the eggs immersed in food colour and let it dry. You can also repeat the same procedure with different colours and bands. Once you remove them, you’ll see bands of white portion alternatively with coloured bands on the eggs.
8. Leaves Print
This is another way of decorating the eggs in a cool way. For this you need raw eggs, a net cloth and some pretty unique shaped leaves. Place these leaves on the egg properly and tie it tight with the net cloth. Place these eggs in boiling water, which contains the food colour of your choice. Leave it for around 10-15 minutes, so that the colour is absorbed in the eggs and cooked as well. Remove the eggs and allow them to cool. Discard the cloth and there you have it, your dainty and unique Easter eggs!
9. The Goose That Laid Golden Eggs
Have you shared the famous story with your kids? Create these eggs by wrapping them tightly in gold foil, and use them as a brilliant prop to teach your kids about the ill-effects of greed. Also works as a great ploy to keep them from eating too much Easter chocolate!
There are numerous ways when it comes to decorating eggs for Easter. You can help your kid work out his creativity, using these easy ideas. If you are not comfortable using the artificial food colours, you can make natural colours at home using vegetable, fruits and other ingredients like beet, raspberry, blueberry, turmeric and so on. A. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. You can take pregnancy test after 1 month of missing your period. If the test comes negative then please try again after one week. Also it is advisable to get yourself evaluated by a gynaecologist and follow doctors advise properly.
Thanks and take care
