They tell you to skip dinner, ditch carbs, load up proteins... have no salt till noon... eat only fruits for breakfast... impossible things that we should do to lose weight, but which we may be able to follow only for a short while. And then comes the inevitable frustration of having gained back all that weight that you had somehow managed to shake off. But what if we told you that something as simple as water could help speed up your weight loss?
Hot Water For Weight Loss – 5 Ways It Works
While people may have told you time and again that drinking hot water – or rather warm water – will help you shed those kilos fast you might be wondering how this humble drink actually does the trick. Here are the answers you have been seeking!
Hot water boosts metabolism. It is the ideal way to kickstart your slowed down body processes.
Hot water breaks down fat. The temperature of the water helps to mobilise fat molecules, making them easier to be burnt.
Hot water curbs appetite. So one way to use hot water for weight loss is to drink a cup of hot water about 30 minutes before a meal.
Hot water curbs cravings because it makes you feel full. So the next time you crave for something and find yourself fighting an uncontrollable urge to binge, have a cup of hot water and hold on for 20 minutes.
Finally, hot water maintains body temperature. Of course, if the water is too hot (or too cold for that matter), it is going to hamper your digestive system. But warm water (up to 50-degrees Celcius) is, in fact, beneficial in maintaining body processes at an optimum rate. This helps in proper digestion of food, assimilation of nutrients, and excretion of waste.
9 Health Benefits of Drinking Hot Water
Now that we know how drinking hot water speeds up weight loss, let us look at a few other benefits of drinking warm water.
1. No more constipation
Warm water is perhaps the best and most natural laxative that is cost-free and does the job better than any other commercially available laxatives! It’s easy, and requires no effort, and has no side-effects! So why not give it a try?
2. Clean insides
Warm water has the same effect on the intestines that it does on greasy utensils – it helps clean out all the oil and gravy and masala that we Indians so love, but that is so bad for us health wise! The original, oldest detox drink, get in the habit of drinking a glass of hot water after a particularly heavy Indian meal.
3. Better circulation
Ever noticed the glow that comes to your skin – especially your face – when you have something hot? Warm water has the same effect on your skin... but in a healthy way. It boosts blood circulation and keeps your skin looking fresh.
4. Anti-ageing strategy!
Yes, ladies! Instead of spending big bucks on those expensive anti-ageing creams, just get in the habit of drinking warm water through-out the day. Warm water helps in flushing the toxins out of the body more efficiently than normal or cold water can, leaving you looking younger!
5. No more dryness
While water is important for proper hydration of skin (and we all know it), it is warm water that’s the best solution for skin dryness.
6. Bye-bye acne
As mentioned earlier, warm water flushes toxins out of the body. No toxins mean no acne and pimples!
7. Clear nose and throat
Along with inhaling steam, it also helps to drink warm water when you have a cold and/or a cough. Not only does it soothe the irritated throat, it also helps in decongestion of the nose. Colds can have a surprisingly dehydrating effect on the body, and drinking warm water takes care of that too.
8. Relief from menstrual cramps
Many women will be familiar with the practice of using a hot water bag when those menstrual cramps seem hell-bent on ruining your day! A better solution, however, is to drink hot water, rather than place it on your womb. Let the magic happen from within!
9. Better hair growth
Warm water, as explained before, boost blood circulation, and that is how it promotes hair growth. The reason hair growth is poor in most women is due to poor blood circulation (which in turn means poor nutrition for the scalp and hair).
4 Tips To Use Hot Water for Weight Loss Plan
So now you know how drinking warm water benefits not only your body but also your weight loss goals! But how should you go about actually incorporating this habit and making it a part of your daily routine? Here are 5 tips to use hot water for weight loss.
Start your day with a glass of warm water. It is the easiest and safest way to ‘wake up’ your body.
Consider additives like lemon, mint leaves, etc. for additional benefits. Particularly for weight loss, squeezing half a lemon into a glass of warm water is recommended.
Drink warm water 20 minutes before a meal, and 30 minutes after a heavy meal. Before a meal, the warm water cuts back calorie intake up to 13%. After the meal, the warm water helps aid digestion and also prevents the oily and spices in the food from causing any digestion problems.
Drink warm water before bed. This helps to calm down nerves, and ensure deep sleep. Sleep is very important and closely linked to weight loss.
Precautions When You Drink Hot Water
Now that you know all the benefits of drinking warm water, let us look at what precautions you need to take while adopting this healthy lifestyle change.
Do not drink excessively hot water!
Do not drink water while standing – whether hot, warm, or cold. It can give stomach cramps and sharp, shooting pain in the limbs.
Do not substitute your morning hot water cuppa with hot tea or coffee instead (even if it is black tea/coffee, without sugar). Tea or coffee will not do for you, what a cup of warm water will.
Never gulp the water down in one go. Doing so will cause your body to simply throw it out, without really absorbing it on a cellular level. Always sip on your water.
FAQs
1. Does hot water help in reducing belly fat?
Yes. However, it is important to remember that you cannot merely depend on your water to move your fat – you have to move it too, through proper nutrition and exercise! 1 cup of warm water (around 250ml) burns only about 12 calories. However, the habit of drinking warm water brings about a lot of positive bodily changes, which actually bring about the anticipated weight loss.
2. Is drinking hot water beneficial for the skin?
Yes. As explained earlier, warm water improves blood circulation, giving your skin a natural healthy glow.
3. How much hot water should I drink a day for weight loss?
About 3 cups of warm water through the day is ideal. There are a lot of people who drink warm water throughout the day, on a daily basis. This is, of course, a wonderful lifestyle change to adapt. However, in summers this might be difficult to abide by. On hot days, try and drink water that is at room temperature. Finally, if that too cannot quench your thirst, consider using a cube of ice in a tall glass of water (instead of dunking an entire glass of cold water).
When you are trying to lose weight, every single tiny step counts. Take one today, by adopting drinking hot water not just as a habit to lose weight, but as a positive lifestyle change. Read more

Why Sleeping With Some Soft Toys is Dangerous for Your Child & How to Keep Him Safe
It's only natural to see a baby sleeping soundly surrounded by his teddy bears and other cuddly toys, right? But what if that congestion and runny nose are coming from those very toys?
Teddy bears and soft toys are pretty much the first toys every baby is presented with. These cuddly toys go on to become a source of security to kids as they are growing. In fact, some kids refuse to go to bed without their teddy bears and this “friendship” may even extend to meal-time or travelling. As much as it seems harmless to let your child snuggle up to his soft toy as much as he likes, perhaps you should consider certain risks.
What's the Harm in Sleeping with Soft Toys?
'Parents had better not let their children sleep with their favourite soft toy'. This strong warning was giving by pulmonologists for one simple reason – children who had extended proximity to these furry toys had a bigger chance of developing rhinitis and other allergies.
Rhinitis makes the inside of a person's nose swollen and feeling sore and is caused by an infection or allergic reaction. Rhinitis can be caused due to a number of factors like genetics, dust mites, exposure to tobacco and early exposure to pets (though there are conflicting studies on the same.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFC3RP2jvxE
Who is at Risk?
Your child! While wide prevalence of rhinitis has been reported among children ages 3 – 15, babies are at an even higher risk of developing it. A Hyderabad study reported that 29 percent of kids suffered from inflammation in their noses from allergens. The source was narrowed down to our popular children's gift – the teddy bear. What is alarming is that allergic rhinitis may even be what is leading to asthma in kids.
While it is already well-known that dust mites breed on the dead skin we shed on our pillows and sheets, teddy bears and soft toys also trap these dead skin cells and in turn trap the dust mites too. Because children are at a closer proximity to their soft toys, they breathe in these allergens through the course of the night, increasing the risk of rhinitis.
What is the Solution?
Washing your toys is one way to keep his beloved soft toys harmless. However, simply washing and drying them won't do. Ensure you wash them well enough to kill the dust mites. This can be done as follows:
If the soft toy is machine washable: Wash the soft toy in hot water every other week and dry them in the dryer on high heat for 45 mins or more.
If the soft toy isn't machine washable: Using mild detergent and warm water, wash and scrub the surface of the soft toy well. Let it dry in the sun before putting it in a freezer bag and into the freezer for 72 hours.
Other Things You Can Do to Keep Your Child's Soft Toys Safe for Him Include
Vaccum the toys once a week to keep them relatively cleaner
Try buying allergy or asthma-friendly toys
Check the washing labels to make the hassle of washing these toys easier
Keep the soft toys stored if they aren't used much
Limit the amount of wooly soft toys your child has
Did You Know: There are two types of Rhinitis -
Seasonal - Common during spring or fall season and are known as 'hay fever' and caused by pollen.
Perennial - Allergies that can occur year round
How to Prevent Rhinitis in Children?
Because the risk of rhinitis only increases in countries like India where pollution levels are higher than before and industrial waste is also increasing, parents need to take many more precautions these days. In addition to washing your soft toys regularly, there are a few simple measures you can take to prevent rhinitis in children:
1. Breastfeed
A study on the efficiency of breastfeeding in preventing rhinitis states that breastfeeding exclusively for the first 3 months reduces the risk of rhinitis in kids, regardless of a family history of the same.
2. Quit Smoking and Reduce Exposure to Tobacco
Even if you don't smoke near your child, doctors state that third-hand smoke can still cause tobacco-related health problems in your child,, including rhinitis.
3. Reduce Exposure to Dust Mites
As simple as it sounds, dust mites aren't as easy to stay clear of and there are quite a few measures you need to keep in mind, including washing your carpets, sheets and pillow cases regularly. While the dust mites on the bedding may not be of high risk as they are washed regularly, your crawling baby may ingest all the mites breeding on the carpets. Therefore, ensure the carpets are cleaned regularly.
4. Keep your Little One Safe from Pollutants
Avoid taking your child out during peak hours to keep him safe from the worst of the pollution. You can also use a face mask for him to breathe better and stay safe.
5. Keep your Home Clear of Pollutants
Invest in an air purifier to filter out any pollutants from the house. Also, make sure your home has plants that filter out the air. You can find a list of purifying plants here.
Change in weather conditions too are causes of allergic reactions in kids. The truth is that the risk is large either way. The best we can do is be well-informed and do all we can to keep those terrible dust-mites and pollution at bay. Perhaps its time for good ol' teddy to take a much needed hot bath? Read more

It's all about prayers, patience and positivity! And of course support from your partner! Do not loose your hopes...
I've been married for 6 years. After few months of our marriage I was having PCOD. At that time that was the reason for me finding it difficult to conceive. But after lot of medication and proper care everything was normal and again we were trying for baby. We also started treatment and tests with the help of gynaecologist. Got pregnant in 2018 but unfortunately had a miscarriage due to fetal bicardia (no heartbeat of baby). It was very difficult after that but we still didn't lose our hopes. We were still praying & trying. In 2020 we found of a blockage in my ovary and a polyp. Went trough the hysteroscopy and laproscopy surgery. Finally everything was fine. After trying again for a year after surgery and By God's grace I finally got pregnant in 2021 and we welcomed our rainbow baby in November 2021. All these years of trying and not succeeding were very difficult and emotionally challenging too. But it's just these few things that kept us through was our prayers, patience, positivity and support from your partner. Me and my husband just supported or cheered up each other through thick and thin whenever any of us felt low for any reason.
Infertility doesn't make any of us less of a woman. We just need to be positive in every aspect. Consult your gynaecologist be quite open with them regarding your problems. Do take their suggestions into consideration. Keep track of your menstrual cycle and ovulation days. Trying on ovulation days increase the chance of conceiving more. Start folic acid and vitamins tablets that your doctor recommended. Have a good and healthy diet. Not all days are same. Speaking your heart out with someone close to you is very helpful during such low days. All I can say in end is just stay positive and keep trying. You'll definitely succeed when it's the right time✌ Read more

We're Loving How These 3 Moms Celebrated Their Birthday With Their Kids - Super Cute!
If a mom is asked to state one moment she will remember till the very end, she will not think twice before answering. Yes, that time when you walked hand in hand with your parents, when you graduated from school, and when you married your husband are all extremely special. But when you have your baby in your arms – a little human being you have actually created – that is right UP THERE in your list of wondrous moments. As your baby grows from an infant to a toddler to a teen, you too get reborn. Three of our favourite moms from Bollywood, who just celebrated their birthdays, exactly voice these sentiments.
How did you celebrate your birthday before becoming a parent? While some of us went out with family, others had a wild time with friends. Yes, we would get surprises and birthday greetings, but guess what? Your birthdays after becoming a mom are tinged with that extra bit of magic – just like everything else in your life.
August has been the month of birthdays so far. Today, August 5, is when Genelia Deshmukh and Kajol share a birthday! While this is Genelia’s first birthday after the birth of Rahyl, her second child, Kajol is quite the veteran Mamma to 13-year old Nysa and a little son Yug. Goes without saying, their kids make their world and their approach toward their life also depends on this. The carefree days of your pre-baby time now get replaced by a lot of responsibility and caution, but also many new emotions you hadn't experienced before.

Genelia and Riteish have always been great friends and partners, and the birth of their children has only cemented their bond further. It has made them realize the expanse of their love for each other which in turn lets them be better parents. Today, on her birthday, Riteish posted this adorable birthday wish for his wife, the mother of his kids. The family, we think, is planning to have a sweet celebration to mark the day, and the three men in Genelia’s life, two of them still too small, will go all out to give her a special time.
Happy Birthday Baiko @geneliad - nothing makes me happier than seeing you smile. Have the bestest one. #HBDGenelia
— Riteish Deshmukh (@Riteishd)
Thank you Navra.. Ur the reason I smile always .. Love you so much
— Genelia Deshmukh (@geneliad)

Kajol, on the other hand, is planning low-key birthday celebration at home along with the kids. With husband Ajay Devgn very tied up with the post-production for his new movie, she wants to make sure her birthday is a nice, peaceful time for everyone. However, the kids reportedly have a surprise planned for their mother. When your children grow up, their little efforts to make you something creative are often the highlight of your birthday. Ditto for Nysa who is now a teenager and an intelligent, lively one at that. Recently, when Nysa had a birthday, Kajol called her “my funky, funny and fabulous baby turned teen”– now that nails it! While these two moms have had a fair share of the motherhood experience so far, newbie Mamma Arpita Khan also had a birthday recently, on August 1. Her son Ahil is still so little to understand the meaning of the occasion but he went along with her to celebrate Mamma’s birthday in London. Together with her husband, family and friends, this mommy had quite a crazy first birthday after becoming a parent. That yummy cake with marshamallows and chocolate is testament enough. Well, our advice would be to make the most of it before Ahil becomes a toddler and develops a special love for messing around with birthday cakes, especially conical ones…Well, we will leave these moms to enjoy their birthday moments with their bundles of joy. A birthday is a terrific time to demand some pampering and finally take out some me-time. In case you have a birthday coming up, we’d recommend asking your husband for this special gift – ensuring the baby is in a good mood and showing Mom a lazy, fun day! Ah, plans! Read more
