What Is The Best Age To Start Preschool for Kids
Determining the best age for the pearl of your eye is quite crucial and hence, needs lots of thought and consideration on parent’s part. While most preschools start the enrolment for the children in the age group from 3 years to 4 years old, there is no predefined best age as there are other factors apart from children’s age which determines the appropriate age to start preschool for your kid.
At What Age Should The Child be Sent to Preschool?
Every parent faces the confusion of deciding the right age for preschool for their children. It is absolutely normal since as a parent you always want to give the best to your child. Majority of preschools will allow children of at least 2 and half years of age to attend but this practice ipso facto, does not indicate that every child can attend preschool as soon as they reach this age. We all want a quick answer to this universal issue faced by every parent at some point in their life. However, there’s a need to understand that age is not the only factor which determines the right age for preschool. Every child grows differently not only physically but also socially and emotionally. Hence, all factors should be considered carefully.
Is Your Kid Ready for Preschool?
Commuting to preschool will translate to spending a couple of hours away from you. In other words, certain basic self-care is required on your kid’s part since you won’t be there to help your kid with his/her usual routine, such as washing hands after playing, drinking water, sleeping alone.
You will have to check whether your kid is ready for preschool on all the fronts discussed above. He or she might be physically and emotionally ready but might not have developed social skills yet. Commuting to preschool would mean interacting with other kids as well. Below are few points which will help you decide whether your kid is ready for preschool.
Basic Self-Reliant Skills: A little self-reliance is expected from your kid when once they start attending preschool. For example, you have to observe whether your kid can carry out basic skills on their own such as eating, drinking, using the toilet, sleeping alone, etc.
Comfortable With Other People Alone: Often kids, at a young age, do not feel comfortable in the absence of their parents, partially because you had always been there with them. For example, if you have a babysitter who looks after your kid then it will likely not be a problem for your kid to fit in preschool for a couple of hours in your absence.
Group Activities: Preschool has a lot of group activities, wherein all kids are required to participate together. Interaction with other kids, will, of course, be a good step to learn new things. However, such group activities might be little difficult for kids under 3 years of age who are mostly in high spirits and adventurous. You can start introducing them to group activities if they aren’t used to it yet.
Physical Stamina For Preschool: A preschool is an active place, involving activities such as art and painting, field trips, playground to enjoy, etc., which means moving around a lot actively. If he or she is still not at that level yet or does not like to move from one thing to other or still loves to take frequent naps then maybe it’s not time for preschool yet.
Keeping A Standard Schedule: Kids tend to be more comfortable with a routine and that’s why usually, preschools follow a standardized timetable: circle time, play time, snack, playground and finally lunch. If your kid does not keep the same routine then probably there is a need for you to work on before they can start their preschool.
Solo Player: Apart from group activities, preschool also has numerous individual tasks involving arts and crafts, which require a good focus and concentration power. If your kid likes to enjoy working on his own on puzzles or drawing at home, then it’s a good sign that he or she won’t have any difficulty at preschool either.
Health Condition: Another factor which should be considered is your child’s health condition. Before you decide to send them to preschool, take a moment and think whether he or she is sensitive to infection or prone to get sick easily. If you kid is vulnerable to infections such as ear infections or bronchitis, then it is better not to start their preschool just yet.

Even if your kid is ready for preschool, you should first give a long thought whether he or she really needs a preschool. What’s your motivation behind sending him or her to a preschool? Timing Contractions during Labour - Importance and Procedure
When you are reaching close to the end of your pregnancy, every prick in your stomach starts to feel like a contraction. You may wonder each time, “Am I having a contraction or is that just gas”? Let’s see how you can differentiate.
What Do Contractions Feel Like?
Contractions are a major sign of going into labour. There are three types of contractions, out of which you need to time only the real contractions. The three types are:
1. False
False contractions can happen up till the time of labour. They occur just to make the cervix ready and will not cause it to dilate. They usually stop if you change position.
2. Practice
These are also called Braxton-Hicks contractions and are experienced by some women but not all. They can occur mid-pregnancy and usually prepare you for labour.
3. Real
If your contractions continue and become more intense as the minute's pass, then they are definitely real. These contractions won't stop even if you change your activity or position. They can cause some bloody mucus to appear or pain in your lower back which can give you cramps, an upset stomach, or diarrhoea.
Real contractions will first start in your lower back and slowly move to your abdomen. It will start with a feeling of pain that you get during constipation or menstrual cramps. The pain will rise and then reduce, making your abdomen stuff. Contractions feel different to every woman but usually last for 60-90 seconds and increase in frequency as labour approaches. Closer to your delivery date, your contractions can form a pattern, telling you when you are going into labour.
Why Should You Keep a Track on Your Contractions?
Contractions are the main clue that tells you that you are ready to give birth. Even if your water has broken, you will be generally instructed to wait till your contractions form a regular, close pattern before heading to the birthing room in the hospital. Keep a track on your contractions because it will tell you which stage of labour you are at.
1. Early Labour
This is when your cervix has dilated to 3cm in diameter, and your contractions are mild (similar to menstrual cramps). Each one will last 30-45 seconds and will happen from 5-30 minutes apart.
2. Active Labour
You will have stronger contractions which will last between 45-60 seconds, 3-5 minutes apart and your cervix will dilate to 7cm. When you feel these contractions, then you have to call your doctor and leave for the hospital.
3. Transition Phase
This is the last stage of labour, and your cervix will have dilated to 10cm. Your contractions will be long and intense, each between 60-90 seconds long and 30 seconds to 2 minutes apart.
When Should You Ideally Start Timing Your Contractions?
How to know when to time contractions? Ideally, you should wait till you have two or three contractions at regular intervals. Then you’ll know that it’s the real thing and then you can start timing them. They will feel like a combination of a period and constipation, starting in your lower back and going around to your abdomen.
What Are the Methods to Keep a Track on Labour Contractions?
There are different methods of timing contractions. They are as follows:
1. Using a Timer
When you feel your stomach tightening, start the timer and stop it when the feeling subsides. Start the timer again when your next contraction starts to measure the time between each contraction.
2. Measure the Average
Calculating the time between each contraction will tell you if they are regular or the time between them is fluctuating. If you start feeling regular contractions, then you don’t need to rush to the hospital immediately. You can call your doctor, inform him and wait until your contractions become stronger to leave for the hospital. Your doctor will coach you and tell you what you should do from there.
3. Using Technology
These days, there are millions of apps available. Download a contraction timer app or install it on your computer. You can start or stop it when you feel your contractions. This works the same as a stopwatch.
How to Time Contractions in Labour
To measure uterine contractions or to count Braxton Hicks contractions, if you are not using an app, just grab a timer and a notepad and pen when you start feeling the contractions with some degree of regularity.
Note the time when a contraction begins.
Write down the time when it ends.
Calculate how long the contraction lasts by subtracting the beginning time from the end time.
Note the time the next contraction begins. Also, calculate the time between the end of one contraction and the beginning of the next one to see how far apart they are.
Continue to time each contraction if they occur regularly. If they don’t, take a break until they do again.
How Long Do Labour Contractions Last?
During labour, contractions will be about a minute each. But it is important to note not only the time but also the intensity of each contraction. Extreme strong contractions signal that the baby is coming.
At What Point Should You Head to the Hospital?
Usually, the best advice is to wait till your contractions are 5 minutes apart and occur that way regularly for an hour before you head to the hospital. Call your doctor as soon as your regular contractions begin; he can coach you from there as he would know best your risk factors and pregnancy history.
The most important thing when you feel contractions is to stay calm, take deep breaths, and start counting. Have a happy delivery!

Here, I want to share my Yogic experience during my pregnancy that helped me a lot.
I hope my Yogic tips help every pregnant lady to feel the blessings of motherhood. Please remember that Yoga is always related to our mind and body, and thus calming the mind would really help you in this journey.
Every single morning, I used to refresh myself by repeating two lines - "I am pregnant and I accept my pregnancy. I am very positive about it."
I started to live in the present and not in the fear of the future. Being totally absorbed in the present moment gave me peace of mind and happiness.
I surrendered everything to the Supreme. Every morning I used to take a sun bath and prayed to the sun to bless us with its energy. Surrendering to the almighty really helped to be confident that everything would be fine.
As body and mind are related, I started taking care of my body. I made a diet chart of each month and it really helped me to eat healthy. I am very proud to say that my healthy diet lead me to have no constipation and no gas problems to this day.
Relaxation was a challenge for me. I couldn't relax during the whole first trimester. I tried to chant 'aum' but couldn't do it as my head started spinning. So, I just took extra rest and tried partial shavasana. You can also try this simple method of relaxation. Just lie down comfortably, close your eyes and take deep, gentle breaths. Once your breaths become slow, gently 'command' your mind to relax by repeating "relax, relax, relax" slowly. And if you want to relax a particular part of your body (like during scans, I used to relax my tummy), try the same method and focus on that particular body part. I am sure it will help you a lot.
I cut myself off from the digital world as much as possible. One status update on Facebook would surely lead us to want to check the likes and comments. So, to give full attention to my baby I uninstalled all the apps from my mobile. In yoga we call it aparigraha (non attachment). Though it's not possible to do it completely, I believe such small efforts would lead to great results.
Depression is common during pregnancy and I was not an exception. I used to seek the help of my husband and a good discussion of my problems helped me come out of it. So, whenever you are depressed, talk to your partner and family about it. Otherwise it may cause serious problems to you and your baby.
Exercising regularly helped me a lot during my pregnancy. It's not only related to your body, but also to a better state of mind. You don't have to know every asana or pranayama, but a simple walk of 15-30 minutes at home will help you both physically and psychologically.
Yoga is all about realising your beauty; it's a way of thinking and doing. It's not only about different poses, but also about every action that leads to the betterment of one's soul. Every single thought of the human mind matters when it comes to Yoga.

What You Need-
2 roughly chopped onions
1 chopped red capsicum
1 chopped yellow capsicum
1 cup chopped mushrooms
1 cup blanched and chopped spinach
1 cup other vegetables
1 tsp ginger paste
Green chilly paste and salt to taste
How To Make-
In a large saucepan, add the vegetables and ginger paste.
Boil it for 10 mins.
Serve hot. You can also add noodles for some extra bites.
Sarson ka Saag
This is a famous North Indian dinner recipe made when the temperature starts dropping.
What You Need-
I bunch mustard leaves (sarson)
1/2 bunch spinach leaves (palak)
1 cup chopped radish leaves (mooli ke patte)
1 cup chopped fenugreek leaves (methi)
2 chopped medium-sized onions
3 chopped medium-sized tomatoes
2 chopped ginger
2 chopped green chillies
7-8 garlic
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1-2 pinch hing powder
2-3 cups of water
2 tbsp maize flour
Salt as required
Tempering for 3 servings
1 finely chopped onion
1-2 tbsp oil
3 bowls cooked saag
How to Make-
For Sarson ka Saag
First wash the greens thoroughly and chop them.
In a cooker, add all the above ingredients except maize flour
Cook for 6-7 minutes.
Pour this along with the flour in a blender.
Blend to a smooth paste.
In a pan, pour the pureed greens and simmer for 30 minutes.
For Sarson ka Saag
Heat oil or ghee in a small pan.
Add chopped onions and fry till they turn light brown.
The saag should be ready by now. Add it, stir and simmer for 2 mins.
Serve hot with makki di roti.
Methi Thepla
Thepla is an alternative to roti and is a well-known dish in West Indian cuisine.
What You Need-
1 cup methi leaves
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup besan
1/4 cup bajra flour
1/4 cup jowar flour
1/2 inch ginger
1-2 green chillies
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
Salt as required
1 tbsp oil
4-5 tbsp yoghurt
How to Make-
Kneading the Dough-
Rinse the methi leaves, chop and keep aside.
In a bowl, add all the mentioned flour, spices and herbs.
Add the chopped methi leaves.
Add yoghurt and mix well.
Knead into a dough- no need to add water.
Rolling Thepla
Make medium sized balls of the dough.
Sprinkle flour on it and roll to about 5 inches in diameter.
Making Thepla-
On a hot pan, place the thepla and flip when one side is partly cooked.
Apply oil to both sides in turn and flip a couple more times till fully cooked.
Serve hot with yoghurt or lemon pickle.
Tomato Rice
This is a speciality of South Indian cuisine and very simple to prepare.
What You Need-
1 cup basmati rice
3 finely chopped large tomatoes
1 finely chopped medium onion
1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 green chilli
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 inch cinnamon
2 green cardamoms
2-3 cloves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp pepper powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tbsp mint leaves (pudina)
1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
1.75 cup water
2 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
How to Make-
Soak rice for 30 minutes, drain and keep aside.
Chop the tomatoes and green chillies, onions, mint and coriander leaves.
In a cooker, heat 2 tbsp oil, add mustard seeds and let them crackle.
Then, add the onions, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves.
Stir and saute till onions turn translucent.
Then, add chillies and ginger-garlic paste and saute till its aroma goes away.
Add the greens and stir and saute for 1 min.
Add the tomatoes and other spices.
Now, add the soaked rice and mix well.
It’s time to add the water and salt.
Cook for 2 whistles.
Serve hot with appalam or chips.
Doi Maach
A fish preparation, Doi Maach is widely consumed in the Eastern part of the country during winter.
What You Need-
5-6 big pieces Rohu fish
200g plain curd
3-4 green chilli
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp mustard oil
Salt to taste
How to Make-
Wash the fish chunks and rub them with salt and turmeric powder.
Take the curd in a bowl and beat it with a spoon.
Now add the rest of the items and mix well.
Leave the fish in this mixture for 1 hour.
Transfer the contents to a deep pan and cook for 15 minutes. Don’t forget to add the green chillies.
Doi Maach is ready.
Dessert
Gajar ka Halwa
What You Need-
8-9 medium juicy carrots
4 cups milk
4 tbsp ghee
10-12 tbsp sugar
20-25 whole cashews
5-6 cardamom
1 pinch of saffron
Handful of raisins
How to Make-
Rinse, peel and grate the carrots first.
Add the carrots and milk to a thick bottomed pan.
Bring the mixture to a boil and keep stirring.
When the milk has come down to 75%, put the ghee, sugar and cardamom.
Continue to cook on low flame.
To garnish, add cashews, saffron and raisins.
Tandalachi Kheer
What You Need-
5 cups full cream milk
1/4 cup rice
1/3 cup sugar
10-12 raisins
4 cardamoms
10-12 almonds
How to Make-
Take a deep saucepan and boil the rice and milk in it.
Keep stirring over low flame till the mixture becomes thick.
Add the sugar, cardamom and raisins.
After it’s cooked, garnish with almonds and serve hot.

Haven’t when you having some kind of iron supplement because they’re very good during the time of pregnancy if you are not having one you need to start with and whatever tabs you take you should just take it with any good juice specially pomegranate juice that’s going to help in doubling the impact of the medicine that you’re taking secondly try and include more of Iron which diet like spinach broccoli beetroot pomegranate black rice sweet potato these things are exceptionally healthy for you to consume
