Eating Guavas During Pregnancy - Is It Safe?
If you are pregnant, your diet must have changed for the good. Your doctor must have suggested that you increase your intake of fruits, veggies, dry fruits and nuts, and other healthy foods during pregnancy for the proper growth and development of your baby. You must have started making healthier choices, but not everything that is healthy otherwise is safe for consumption during pregnancy. In this article, we will tell you whether or not you can consume the very nutritious fruit guava during pregnancy. Many people believe that eating guavas increases chances of appendicitis in a pregnant woman. However, there is no medical proof of the same. So, let's find out if you can eat it during pregnancy!
Nutritional Value of Guavas
Guavas are very nutritious and experts believe that eating guavas during pregnancy can be very beneficial. Guavas are rich in vitamins, minerals, and folic acid. Read on to know about the nutritional information about guavas.
Guavas are rich in essential vitamins.
Guavas are rich in vitamins like Vitamin C, A, B2, and E. It is believed that guavas contain more Vitamin A and Vitamin C than oranges and lemons.
Guavas are a rich source of folic acid.
Ascorbic acid and folic acid are very important for the proper growth of the foetus. These two acids are found in guavas. The folic acid present in guavas also benefits the circulatory system and aids in the development of the nervous system in babies.
Benefits of Eating Guavas During Pregnancy
Eating guavas during pregnancy can be beneficial for your overall health. Eating guavas in the morning is an excellent remedy for morning sickness. Due to their high fibre and water content, guavas should be an integral part of a pregnancy diet. Eating guavas during pregnancy can also help in maintaining blood pressure and prevent gestational diabetes, a common condition affecting pregnant women.
Apart from these benefits, guavas offer several other health benefits. Read on to know why this delicious fruit is a wonder fruit!
Helps Control Blood Pressure Levels: One of the benefits of eating this tropical fruit during pregnancy is that it controls blood pressure and prevents clotting thus maintaining the fluidity of blood. As a result, eating guavas can help prevent the chances of a miscarriage or premature birth.
Helps Control Cholesterol Levels: Being a rich source of fibre, guavas also keep blood cholesterol levels under control. High cholesterol can lead to cardiovascular complications which can be quite dangerous especially during pregnancy. So eat guavas and keep your cholesterol levels in check.
Lowers the Risk of Anaemia: Iron deficiency is the most common cause of anaemia during pregnancy. In iron-deficiency anaemia, the blood cannot carry enough oxygen to tissues throughout the body. This can affect the health of the mother and the baby. But the chances of anaemia can be lowered by consuming Vitamin C-rich foods like guavas that help in the absorption of iron.
Helps Relax Muscles and Nerves: The magnesium content in guava can help keep the muscles and nerves relaxed during pregnancy.
Prevents Infections: Guavas are known for their antioxidant properties and are rich in Vitamins A, C, and E. They also contain polyphenols and carotenoids. The presence of these vitamins and antioxidants help fight and prevent bacterial infections and lower the risk of illness.
Prevents Gestational Diabetes: Guavas not only help in lowering blood sugar levels but also help in regulating the same which eventually can help prevent gestational diabetes.
Regulates Digestion: Eating guavas can help keep digestion problems at bay and ensure the smooth functioning of the digestive system. The presence of potassium in guavas can also help tackle acidity and heartburn.
Helps in the Healthy Growth of the Baby: A rich source of folic acid, calcium and Vitamin B9, guavas can help in the healthy development of the baby’s brain and bones.
Prevents Constipation: Constipation and haemorrhoids are a common problem during pregnancy. Hormonal changes usually lead to this problem but eating guavas can solve this problem of constipation. Guavas being rich in fibre content and water can treat constipation. Eating guavas with the seeds can also prevent haemorrhoids.
In addition to the benefits mentioned above, eating guavas can also strengthen the immune system, increase energy levels, and decrease the stress hormones in the body. The very fact that guavas are rich in vitamin C, lycopene, and antioxidants make the consumption of guavas highly favourable for skin and hair.
Side Effects of Eating Guavas
Although guavas taste delicious and offer numerous health benefits, there are a few complications that may arise if you eat guavas in excessive amounts during pregnancy:
Guavas are rich in fibre which can help keep digestion problems at bay but if consumed in large amounts, it may cause diarrhoea.
Guavas, like most other fruits, are stored using lots of chemicals. These chemicals can cause bacterial infections that can have an adverse impact on health during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to wash guavas well before consumption.
Drinking Guava Juice or Eating the Fruit Itself – What Should You Choose During Pregnancy?
Most fruits, when consumed in their raw and natural form, offer more health benefits. Guava is one such fruit, but there are many other ways to consume this fruit. Guavas can also be consumed in the form of jellies and jams. It can be consumed in the form of juice or in a fruit salad. However, during pregnancy, you must avoid drinking guava juice. One should also avoid consuming guavas in preserved forms like jelly and jam during pregnancy.
You should opt for the fruit, and while consuming the whole guava, you must pick ripe guava without any blemishes on it, wash it well, cut it into slices, and eat. Ripe guavas have a unique flavour. You can also add guava to a bowl of fruits and eat it as part of a fruit salad.
FAQ
1. Ripe or Unripe Guavas – Which Is a Healthier Choice During Pregnancy?
Many people like eating unripe guavas, and there is nothing wrong with eating unripe ones. Eating unripe guava can be equally nutritious and offers various health benefits if consumed in the right quantity. However, during pregnancy, eating unripe guavas is not recommended. It is suggested that you eat ripe guavas as they contain Vitamin C in higher amounts as compared to unripe ones. If you have dental problems, then again you should avoid consuming unripe guavas as you may suffer from a severe toothache while trying to bite into hard unripe guava. Choose ripe guavas over unripe ones and make healthier choices.
Guavas are very nutritious and are absolutely safe to consume during pregnancy. You can eat ripe guavas or drink guava juice. Just ensure that you take necessary precautions before eating guavas so that your body absorbs all the essential nutrition from this juicy fruit. However, before you include this fruit in your pregnancy diet, do consult your doctor about the same. Also, discuss how many guavas should you eat in a day or a week. Your doctor or nutritionist will be able to recommend the right quantity as per your body’s requirement. So make healthy choices and have a healthy pregnancy! Read more

How to Play Monopoly - Basics, Rules, and Tips
Monopoly is a favorite among families and friends, so you need to learn how to play it. Many people are familiar with the game's fundamentals, while others have only played the simplified version. Keep reading for some basic guidelines and rules of the game.
What Is Monopoly and What Is the Objective of the Game?
Monopoly is a board game whose goal is to buy and develop the property while driving competitors bankrupt.
The objective of Monopoly is to become the wealthiest player in the game by buying, leasing, trading, and receiving payments on properties. It is possible to play until one player owns everything or when the wealthiest participant is declared the winner after a predetermined time limit.
Monopoly Game - Setting it Up
Monopoly is a lot of fun to play, but it can be challenging to set the board up. Setup guides may be helpful if you've never played Monopoly or haven't played in a long time. As a reminder, the faster you can set up and play the game, the more you'll enjoy it!
What You Will Need
Before starting the game, double-check that you have all the supplies – the dice and all gaming components. Ensure you have the following items ready before your game:
The game board
Money with a monopoly
Tray for a banker
Cards for the Community Chest
Cards of chance
Title cards
32 homes and 12 hotels
Three dice
Number of Players
How many people can play monopoly? Well, the answer is simple! A minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 8 are required to play the game.
Time Needed
Game setup time - 2-5 mins
Game playing time - 20-180 mins
What You Need To Do
If you’ve never played before, go over the rules and ensure that other players are familiar with one of the essential questions - ‘In monopoly, how much money do you need to start with?’ Here are what you need to do to play the game:
1. Organize the table
Place the board on a flat surface to play the game, such as a table or the floor. Place the game board on your preferred surface and unfold it.
2. Place board at easy access
Place the game board in a place where all players can readily reach and enjoy the game.
3. Toss the cards into a pile and reshuffle them
There is a specific place on the board for each kind of card. Each stack is shuffled individually, and then the piles are placed on the board. Make sure that the cards in the monopoly deal are placed face down.
4. Make sure your finances are in order before you start spending any money
When starting the game, ensure all of the money is neatly arranged in the banker's tray before you begin. Organize your cash by bill type ($500, $100, $50, $20, $10, $5, and $1).
5. Invite friends to join you in the game
Assemble your team for the game. It's best if the players are 8 years or older, but you can always pair younger kids with older kids or adults to make sure everyone gets a chance to play.
6. Select a piece of art for everyone
As of now, there are only eight pieces to select from in the monopoly: top-hat (or cape), shoe (or boot), battleship (or ship), racecar (or vehicle), Scottie dog (or dog), wheelbarrow (or cart), or cat (or cart).
7. Select randomly
Each player may select one piece at random from an assortment of components in a cloth bag if they cannot agree on the same piece. Players must put their token on 'GO' before the game begins.
8. Assign a banker to your project
While playing, the banker should be ready to do more than other players since they will be responsible for passing ‘Go’ and managing property transactions.
9. Choose a trustworthy banker
Because the banker may cheat more readily than the other players, you should choose someone you can trust.
10. The banker should have all real estate properties
Before the game starts, the banker should have all the real estate (houses, hotels, and money) in front of him.
11. Distribute the initial capital
Players must be given their money before they begin playing.
12. Each participant starts with a small amount
Each participant starts the game with a small amount, like $1,500. The $1,500 should be divided into the following amounts:
2 * $500s
4 * $100s
1 * $50
1 * $20
2 * $10s
1 * $5
5 * $1s
13. It's time to play
Monopoly is ready to play after you've completed all the necessary preparations.
How to Play the Monopoly Game?
The game's rules vary based on the variant, but the objective is to amass most of the property and cash to become the wealthiest player in the game.
1. Start the game
As the Banker dictates, each player follows their lead. The highest-scoring player is the first to play.
Each player rolls a die as the next step to determine how many spaces they will go forward.
They remain there until a player's following turn, at which point they are removed.
In some instances, players may place two or more tokens in a single slot.
One or both dice must be in contact with a card deck for the roll to count. They should be re-rolled.
There are a variety of ways that tokens may be used. Players can use them to buy real estate and make you pay to rent and taxes.
Token duplicates move your token to a new location and are subject to any benefits or penalties relevant to the region they fall on. Once your token has been hurled, move it as you usually would.
You'll get arrested if you throw three doubles in a row.
2. ‘Ready and Go’
Tokens that land on or pass over the 'GO' are worth $200 each time.
However, each board is only charged $200 once.
On 'Chance' or 'Community Chest,' if a player lands 2 or 7 spaces beyond 'Go,' he earns $200 for the first pass.
And another $200 for the second pass, respectively.
3. House purchase
Property that is not owned may be purchased from the Bank for the published price shown.
Otherwise, the bank auctions the item to the highest bidder if you don't want to keep it. The buyer pays the Bank in cash and receives a copy of the property's Title Deed document.
An individual who has rejected the indicated pricing option may still bid.
4. Leasing
A player's Title Deed card specifies how much rent you'll be charged if you land on their property.
Players cannot collect rent from a mortgaged property, but they must show the title deed.
Unimproved properties in that color group are worth twice as much when you possess all of the Title Deed cards in that group. No matter how many properties are mortgaged, this rule still applies.
Having a house or hotel on a property makes more sense since rentals go higher.
5. Chest of Chances
Select the top card from the deck and follow the instructions.
Return the card to the deck, face down, with the back of the card facing up.
Until you use it, the "Get Out of Jail Free" card is kept on hand.
Someone who has drawn it may sell it to another player for an agreed-upon price if they don't want it.
6. Taxation
When you choose "Income Tax," you have the following options:
7. Going to jail
While in prison, you will not be able to receive your $200 salary. When you go to jail, your turn is also over for the day.
It's "Just Visiting" if you don't get "sent to jail" but arrive on that square during regular play.
8. Avoid being in prison
When you are in prison, you can get out of it by buying and selling real estate, including houses and hotels
9. Pay-back time
No money, property, reward, or penalty is given to a player landing on a "free" resting place in the game.
Try to stay away from this area early in the match.
10. Debts
Players may take out mortgages on unimproved land at any time. This value is printed on each Title Deed card.
Tout building on the land must first be sold for half its value.
Players cannot rent foreclosed homes and utilities.
Any mortgages must be paid off with 10% interest and 10% principal.
When a color-mortgage group's mortgages are paid off, the owner can start buying back houses or hotels.
The property of a player is secured by a mortgage that cannot be withdrawn from the bank.
This means the owner can resell his mortgaged property to a third party for any price agreed upon, and the new owner can pay off the mortgage plus 10%.
11. Getting bankrupt
Unable to repay a debt to another player or the bank, a player goes bankrupt.
A player who owes you money must pay it in full.
Homeowners and hoteliers must sell their properties to the bank for half the purchase price.
As a result, you must immediately pay your creditor 10% of your property's value in interest.
If you owe the bank more than you can pay back, your assets will be seized. As a result, the bank sells all its properties except buildings at auction. The bank does not lend or borrow money.
How to Win in the Monopoly?
Check out these tips, techniques, and secrets to guarantee or improve your success chances.
Develop your property as soon as possible and as aggressively as possible.
Buy orange and red properties since they are the most often landed-on.
Do not deposit your money in a savings account.
Avoid wasting time on utilities.
To optimize earnings, build three houses or hotels as quickly as possible.
Avoid trying to get out of jail as quickly as possible later in the game.
Create a housing shortage by using all available homes
Monopoly is a popular game that is still played and enjoyed by many people. But to become a master of the game, you must be well-versed in the tactics and movements involved. The game plan method comes into play at this point to help you achieve your goals. Take notice of the comprehensive instructions above to become a Monopoly Pro!

How to Raise a Tech Savvy Child
Most parents were brought up without the internet, unlike this generation. Kids these days have changed and have become extremely tech savvy owing to the widened exposure to the internet. This is why many parents find it hard to keep tabs on what their kids are browsing, and this has made it very difficult for them to restrain their access from a young age.
How to Incorporate Your Child’s Tech Skills in Real World Learning?
You can use these tips to tap into your kid’s curiosity and help him combine those digital skills and real-world learning.
With the use of a digital camera, you can ask your kid to interview any senior citizen about some historical incident. You can help him share it with other people by having him make a video of the interview with a film-editing program.
If you plan a garage sale, you can make your kid design flyers using different softwares like word-processing or draw-and-paint, and you can post those around the neighbourhood.
Every child has hobbies that excite him. Your kid can make a collection of this by creating books describing his favourite hobbies with digital photos and fun softwares like iPhoto.
If your child has ever thought about setting up a cookie or a lemonade stand, you can encourage him by asking him to design and make the signs using a computer. He can also use the computer to keep track of his expenses by using spreadsheet.
If you've ever wanted to organise your recipes, you can ask your kid to make a well-structured database for you.
Family trips are always fun. The next time your family is planning to go on a vacation or an exciting weekend trip, let your kid research online for what places you can visit.
You can always ask your kid to check out educational websites if they want help with their homework, or are looking for other fun activities.
Many other resources are available to help your child with their projects and assignments.
Why is Parental Involvement Necessary in Raising a Tech Savvy Kid?
Though parents want their child to be savvy enough for this technologically advanced world, they do not want him to become a screen time zombie. There are many ways to help your child explore and discover things on the internet.
1. Engaging in Digital Activities That Teach Real Skills
Technology has become very pervasive in the lives of kids, and they are using the internet to build a creative world, mastering codes, or even studying a foreign language. Experts recommend exploring these worlds together instead of letting them roam alone in the digital world.
To come up with a new rhythm for the family, it is better to consider rethinking your assumptions on what is good and bad technology. Activities that involve movement or dancing, math, logic, and problem-solving are highly recommended.
You can also find many other activities that include the whole family, like watching classic movies made by directors and then discussing it. Explore different ways like learning to code, constructing a computer together, or even working on graphic design projects that can help in increasing his imagination. Focus on what your child is achieving instead of counting the number of hours he spends.
2. Being Involved
Most parents ask questions about their kid’s teachers, classmates, and friends. This practice should not be abandoned in the digital world. When kids spend time online, you should know the games they play, the videos they like, the programs they use, and even who they are talking to online.
You can sit with your child so he knows that you are going to be involved, and get him to show the activities he does online and why he likes it. This only means that you are keeping a watchful eye, and this is better than spying.
This is also a perfect way of letting your kid know that you will not panic if he comes up with a problem, because it is essential for him to feel comfortable with you.
3. Modeling Your Own Digital Engagement
It is best to show your kid how to use a phone for running a family life. This will help him understand and connect with you. He will also start imitating your choices sub-consciously when he watches you sort and prioritize important information.
You should also show your kid how and why you use social media like Twitter and Instagram to set a model for good digital citizenship. You can explain how group selfies can be fun, but posting mean comments are inappropriate.
4. Finding Balance and Establishing Boundaries
It is important to unplug from time to time as a way to recharge ourselves. It is essential to find what is best for your family instead of following a universal guide. You can either have a phone-free hour during dinner, or have a day-by-day approach. Either way, your child will surely benefit from these limits and boundaries. He will also appreciate having you to help him navigate the digital world.
Although change is unavoidable, habits rule humans. Every parent is sure to deal with changes as their child grows. It is important to set aside phones and the internet and have healthy family time on a regular basis. When the children get to know the beauty of self-restraint, they will have a better outlook on life.

My Myth: Me and Depression- No Way, I Am Such a Positive Person!
We had been planning to start our family for a few months, and after many negatives (urine pregnancy tests) I was overwhelmed to find a positive one. I couldn’t believe my eyes so did another test, and it was positive too. It was the best day for me.
Then came the hard part. Morning sickness, no, it was 24-hour sickness and vomiting. They said it should go away after the first trimester, but it was my companion in all the nine months. In the later months, it was accompanied by a migraine which could only be relieved by vomiting. From being a happy, friendly and fun loving woman, I stopped my job and preferred staying at home all day. Even car rides made me vomit. Not only, did I not like going out but I did not like people coming home to meet
me too. I wanted to stay alone. And everyone said why you are depressed; it was a planned pregnancy. Yes, I wanted it. But my dear family and friends, though it was very much what I wanted and I was happy to conceive I was still under pregnancy depression. It is then I realised that depression is not with what you have and what desires are fulfilled, but it is to do with hormones in the body. The day I delivered my baby, I was back to my old self with a bang. Thankfully postpartum depression did not get to me but trust me that is very common too. I openly discuss with family and friends as when I was in distress and realised that many of my friends were in the same phase but never disclosed to anyone as they knew they would not
be understood. The most common response is that " oh! She has everything in life then why is she depressed. We are struggling but still happy."
We need to understand depression is not about having things in life. It is a medical disorder, and it needs family and friends support and doctors help. I am a doctor, but it took my depression to realise this. Be supportive friends.

My First Breastfeeding Journey and the Problems I Faced
I have been blessed with a baby girl recently. During pregnancy, I planned that I would breastfeed my baby for 2-3 years. After my baby was born, the nurse handed her over to me to feed her. However, to my dismay, I couldn’t feed her as my breasts were not generating milk. I examined after 2-3 hours but was again disappointed. The following morning, my husband told the nurse about my condition. She suggested I feed the baby with formula milk.
My mother-in-law consoled me, saying that milk would come out with massaging the breasts. On the third day, my breasts felt heavy, and I later found from the doctor about breast engorgement. I purchased a breast pump, and my mother-in-law massaged the breasts with oil to reduce the engorgement.
After five days, I could finally feed my baby with pumped milk; however, the milk pumped was insufficient for her. I almost cried all day and wondered how it could happen to me. I was sad as my daughter could not feed on breastmilk while I knew that was the best form of nutrient for her. I researched this on the internet and consulted and pediatricians who suggested I avoid formula milk. It was a greater concern as I did not want to allow my baby to go hungry. She cried a lot throughout the day for food, and I was unable to bear that pain.
Later, one of my friends suggested using a nipple shield, which turned out to be a blessing for my baby and me as she started latching the shield. After some time, the milk started coming to the breast. However, another problem that persisted was my little child was latching the shield and not my breast. I was anxious and extensively researched on the internet to find a solution to it. Finally, I bumped into a great idea in a YouTube video which I started following. I prepared formula milk in a bottle and then brought my baby girl close to my breast as if to feed. My husband or mother-in-law poured a few drops of formula milk on my breast. This worked like magic as my little girl started latching. The technique proved to be a blessing, and now she latches on my breast by God’s grace. I could finally stop feeding her formula milk and continue breastfeeding her for as many days as possible.
