How to be Your Spouse's Best Friend
Do you, like most married couples, wish to be your spouse’s best friend but don’t know how to? Is it that tough to be one? Definitely not; after all, you married your partner to spend an entire lifetime together; to share the good and the bad times. Isn’t this what friendship is all about? So how can your spouse be anything different than your best friend? Read on and learn how you can be a best friend and not just a spouse.
Why is Friendship in Marriage Important?
Nothing can be better than having a spouse who is your best friend. After all the basis of a happy and everlasting marriage is a strong bond of friendship between the husband and wife.
1. Because You Have to Spend Your Lives Together
It is essential for couples to understand the importance of friendship in marriage. After all, you cannot share your life or spend your entire life with someone whom you cannot relate to or do not have an “emotional connect” with. When you accept someone as your best friend, you do so knowing his “good” and the “bad”. Therefore, the acceptance level is much higher, and you can forgive each other for small mistakes made which makes a marriage last longer.
2. Because You Have to Share Each Other’s Life Experiences
When you both are each other’s best friend, you tend to share even the smallest of things and life experiences with each other. Through this exchange, you get to know each other better, and you also learn from each other’s life experiences. This enriches you and your relationship with your spouse.
3. Because It Helps You Open Up
If you are best friends with your life-partner, you have the liberty of being open; this means you can talk and share anything and not be judged. This openness with each other creates an emotional bond and also serves as a foundation for a strong, ever-lasting relationship of trust, love and respect which makes marriage even more strong.
4. So That You Do Not Take Marriage for Granted
When a married couple is best friends, they tend to give more preference to each other. They prioritise each other’s needs since caring for each other comes easily to them. This also brings in a feeling of security in the marriage and which further on seals the marital bond.
5. Because It Makes Marriage Enjoyable and Not Burdensome
It is important to do and enjoy activities together. This becomes easy when you have a spouse as your best friend, and you both don’t mind accepting each other’s likes and dislikes. In such a marriage, every activity, every life event, every hurdle and every hardship does not make you feel overburdened; it brings both of you closer to each other and nurtures the bond that you share.
6. Because It Creates Marital Peace and Satisfaction
A marriage cannot flourish if there is no peace and satisfaction in it and of course, this is not possible if both partners are not in sync. Being together in almost every thought and process makes it easy to take decisions and creates a sense of satisfaction and peace in the marriage.
Ways for Becoming Best Friends with Your Spouse
Everything fades away with time but not being friends, and that is why being best friends with your better half becomes imperative. It can restore and rekindle love and respect in an otherwise lifeless marriage. So you may be wondering how to be best friends with your husband or how to be best friends with your wife? Listed below are the 15 best ways to become your spouse’s best friend.
1. Acceptance
What mars a relationship is pinpointing imperfection in your partner. You have to realise that nobody is perfect; not even you. Just as much you find those small annoying things in him, he too may have found in you. Therefore, accept the way your partner is; love him for who and what he is. This will also help your spouse to open up, and it will eventually bring him more close to you. Appreciate him for all that he does for you. Remember, without support, appreciation, love and respect, friendship and marriage cannot flourish.
2. Give Space
Being with each other or doing things together is important, but that does not mean you suffocate each other. At times, when you both feel like doing two different things, do it. You don’t need to curb your desires and likings to be your spouse’s best friend. A little space is always considered to be healthy in a marriage. It also helps you to be yourself, which is important in making your spouse see the real side of you. Finding the right balance between doing things you want to do and doing things together is the key to a healthy relationship. Moreover, a little “me-time” will not just rejuvenate both the partners, but will also make you crave for each other’s presence.
3. Don’t Try to Control
One of the best ways to become close to your spouse is to stop controlling him. Restrain yourself from telling your partner what to do and what not to do, more so in front of his friends or outsiders. Doing so may only make him feel stifled in the relationship, and he may try to keep away from you. Instead, let him do what he feels like (remember you both are two different individuals). If in case, you need to tell him what you feel, tell him when he is alone and say it without blaming him for something or making him feel guilty.
4. Keep No Secrets
There should not be any secrets between best friends. If you wish to be best friends with your spouse, make sure your relationship is transparent. Communicate as much as possible and tell your partner everything. However, you cannot just talk and not listen when he speaks. You will get to know him better which will bring you closer to each other.
5. Support Your Spouse
Every individual needs a support system and what better than a spouse’s support in trying times. You should be able to stand by him at all times and be a constant support system. This will not just help in developing a strong bond of friendship between you and your partner but will make your marriage strong and profound.
6. Make Your Spouse Feel Cared For and Loved
After marriage, the spouse should always become your priority at least until you both become parents. Looking after each other especially when one is sick, eating at least one meal a day together, protecting each other and standing up for each other are few things that will make your spouse feel loved and cared for.
7. Trust
Trust is important in every relationship and more so between a husband and wife. Have faith in your partner. There is no reason to be overtly possessive about your partner. This will only ruin your relationship and marriage. It is important that you trust your partner but at the same time be trustworthy too.
8. Speak Out if Something Bothers You
You do not need to turn a blind eye to your partner’s every fault. Friends do have disagreements, and that is also healthy for a good relationship. However, if you see something about your partner that annoys you, always be vocal about it. However, you need to be tactful and speak without accusing or blaming him.
9. Spend Quality Time Together
This is the best way to get close to your spouse. Do things that you both enjoy doing. If travelling is something that you both enjoy, take a few days off from work and set out on vacation or go on a long drive once every week. At times, you may even do things that make your partner happy and vice versa.
10. Be Respectful Towards Each Other
Be careful of what you say to your spouse. Disrespect towards each other could ruin not just the friendship between spouses but also their marriage. Behave with your better half the way you would like your better half to behave with you. Remember never to bring your partner down, not to say anything disrespectful about their respective families or friends or talk about mistakes that were made by your partner earlier. This may hurt not just their ego but can also take a toll on the marriage front.
11. Sacrifice and Compromise for Each Other
At times making small sacrifices or compromises like watching the TV program that your spouse wants to watch or forgoing the desire to buy something you want can go a long way in bringing the life partners together.
12. Do Not Allow Ego to Come in Between You and Your Spouse
Best friends should not let any ego come in between them, and if you want to be your spouse’s best friend, you have to let go. It is not important who started the fight or why there was a fight in the first place; what is more important is that you should just say sorry and give your partner a tight hug. After all, you do not want to stay away from your partner or maybe, even drift away from each other for some silly fight.
13. Be a Part of Your Partner’s Family
In India, marriage is not just between two individuals but between two families. Therefore, accepting your partner’s family and friends and making them your own will make them feel closer towards their partner. The very thought of not having to juggle between their spouse and their family will put them at ease.
14. Treat Each Other as Equals
In a marriage, the husband and wife are but equals in every respect. Do not decide things for your partner; let your partner decide what is best for them. Do not stop your partner from speaking out; instead listen carefully and then acknowledge and respect whatever your partner has told you. This will make your partner feel at par with you, and there will be mutual respect and love between you two.
15. Appreciate Each Other
Just as you would pinpoint your partner’s faults, appreciating them for their good qualities is equally important. This will make their morale soar high and make them appreciate the goodness in others better.
Try out the above points and see how from being just a spouse you become your better half’s best friend.

Reading Nutrition Panels And Food Labels For Child Safety
Food labels and nutritional panels are present on every packaged food product except, small packets of food and products from the local bakery. They give information about the various ingredients in the food. Nutritional panels are also a part of the food label and tell us about the nutrients present in the food.
Nowadays, many packaged food items are available for babies. These packaged foods make the life of a parent easy and convenient. However since you are buying these items for your baby, it is essential that these items have high nutritional content to facilitate optimal growth.
Reading nutrition panels and food labels is very important because you come to know about how much nutrition your baby would get and would also alert you to the allergens present. .
The following categories are usually mentioned in the nutritional panel:
Energy
Fat
Carbohydrates
Sodium
Serving size
Energy
Dietary fibre
Food Labels
The food label contains the names of ingredients that are present in the baby food. The ingredients are usually written in percentage form and in the descending order of weight. This means that the ingredient that is mentioned first is present in the highest quantity. However, if an ingredient is present in a very small quantity i.e. less than 5 percent of the total weight, it might not be mentioned in the list.
Nutrition Panels
All the food products have a list of seven nutrients mentioned in the nutritional panels- total fat, saturated fat, energy, total carbohydrates, sodium and sugar. There may other nutrients included as well. By comparing the information present on this panel of various food products, you can choose which one to buy for your baby. This way you can make the healthiest choice.
Things to Look for and Compare in Packaged Food
1. Energy
Carbohydrates, fats and protein provide your baby with the energy required for his daily activities and growth. Lower energy might imply low fat content, which might be a good choice for adults but not for babies. Babies should be given full-fat food items.
2. Fat, Sugar and Salt
These nutrients and ingredients are usually mentioned on food labels under different names. Fats may take the name of cream, vegetable oils, shortening, sour cream, butter, etc while sugar might be present in the form of fructose, glucose, corn syrup, honey, lactose, etc.
3. Food Additives
Many food products contain additives and it is mandatory that all the additives which are present in the food be listed on the food label. Babies might be sensitive to additives like preservatives and artificial colours. These should be read very carefully before buying the food.
Best Before and Expiry Dates
All food products have a shelf life and must not be consumed after the shell life is over. The “best before” and “use by dates” mentioned on the packaging tell us the date before which we should consume the product.
The next time you buy packaged food items for your baby, make sure that you are equipped with all the above information. This way you can make the best nutrition choice for your child. Read more

Is Your Child Tensed Before the Maths Exam?- Here Are Some Stress-Buster Techniques!
When exams knock on your door, it's common to be paranoid. Is your kid a math whiz or does she feel anxious at the mere mention of the word "Maths"? Does her heart begin to race when she's given a maths question paper in his hand? Does she get sweaty palms while dealing with simple multiplication of 9s?
If this happens, your kid is suffering from something known as "Maths Anxiety".
Let me tell you a story about a girl who happened to suffer from math anxiety as well.
There was a girl who feared maths so much, that she found studying maths no less than a horror. She trembled with fear while dealing with simple equations like 2*2, 4/2, 4:5, 1/2*2/3. The only concept of maths she understood was algebra. Time flew and she left maths after her tenth standard. That was the happiest moment of her life. It never crossed her path ever after that. Till Aug 2015.
She became a teacher after a few years and she was given class 2. The first day of her school as a teacher, second-lecture Maths. She felt that tremor in her life again but took a deep breath and taught the tiny tots, who were about to build their basics of maths.
She was scared that she might destroy the little ones' basics. But she had the confidence in herself that made her teach them well. She taught the kids with lots of fun-filled activities and started enjoying teaching and learning maths.
After a few days, it was her first Parent-Teacher Meeting and parents met her and said, "Ma'am, the children are very happy with you, they especially enjoy your maths class a lot".
That teacher, that girl who once feared maths is me.
So if I can teach maths and become the students' favourite teacher, so can your kid give her maths exams without any stress.
Here are a few tips or stress-buster techniques you should tell your kid so that she scores a decent grade:
Practice Questions: Try and try until you succeed. Practice makes you perfect.
Always check your sums and answers: When you make a mistake, understand where you went wrong.
Never say, you can't do it: Try giving it a shot, try solving at least.
Master the concepts you are most comfortable with: Like I was very good at algebra, so I mastered the technique. You can become the master of your favourite concept, be it Trigonometry, Geometry, anything.
Don't have a cloudy mind: Anxiety has a tendency to reduce focus. So don't stress. You will not be able to focus and focus is necessary for maths.
Create a strategy to solve a question.
If you don't know a problem, try solving the next one.
Have a personal relaxation technique.
Make an extra credit available: In case maths is not your cup of tea and you are scared of your percentage going down, think about other subjects where you can score a better grade and manage your percentage.
You have all the support you need. With patience and perseverance, you can achieve anything. Be positive.
Approach maths as a language and not a problem.
Have sound sleep, relax your mind, listen to good music and have constructive breaks in between your schedule.
When after scoring a 29/100 in my second pre-board exams, I can score a 65/100, which is a decent score in my final boards with the above-given techniques, so can your kid.
Tell your child, "Just try and believe in yourself. You can succeed in anything you want to achieve."
Note: Dear mommies please make your child read this or you can motivate him or her in your own way after you read this.
Please share more stress-buster techniques in the comment section.

Helping a Child Work on His Strengths
Many parents are worried that their children do not indulge in socializing or reading, but they need to understand that their children’s strengths might lie somewhere else. Every child cannot be a scholar; there will be children who will be good at performing arts, fine arts or even sports. The sooner the parents understand and accept this, the easier it will be for them to accept their child. Studies have proved that using your strengths in daily life will make your life more peaceful and happy.
Each one of us is born with special talents and strengths. Your own set of strengths could be different from that of your partner’s or siblings’. Similarly, your child has his own strengths. We always work on our child’s weaknesses rather than his strengths. If we start nurturing his talents and strengths during his formative years we will bring up a contented child. Here’s how.
Traditionally, parents tend to focus more on the weaknesses of their children. Some go a step further and taunt them for their ‘ineptness’ and embarrass them in front of their friends and other people. Not scoring well at school does not guarantee failure in life and vice- versa. Even when we look at our own family, we see that our brothers and sisters are probably good at different things and that has not made them any less successful in life. As parents, we need to recognise our child’s strengths as early as possible and try to make the best out of those strengths.
How To Discover your Child’s Strengths
1. Use play methods
Try and play different games with your child, so that you see where his interest lies and in some cases if your child is not interested in playing, do not force him into it.
2. Find out cues
Let your child reach for all the stuff he wants to play, find out his interests with the cues you get.
3. Make notes
Make notes of what your child likes and what he doesn’t like, it will help your family when you are not around.
4. Listen to your child
Make it a regular habit to listen to your child, chances are he will talk to you about his interests on his own.
5. Do not compare siblings
Comparing siblings leads to lower self-esteem in the child, so never compare. Instead, help both your children find out their own strengths and work together as a team.
6. Discover hobbies and strengths
Create a distinction between hobbies and strengths and help them with both. Let them spend time on both.
How To Find out Strengths in a Group
Collect up to 10 children and ask them about their strengths. This will not only help the children understand like-minded children, but will also help them see that different people have different strengths. This lets every child value everyone else’s strengths, so they can now work together as a team and succeed.
Working on our child’s strengths does not mean that we ignore his weaknesses and let him have his way throughout the day. Education is an important part of his life and we cannot neglect that. We need to balance academics and extra-curricular activities so that he excels in his life as a whole. Read more

Q. my baby girl is crying because of gas. can please tell how to relieve gas?
Dr Vandan H Kumar
Paediatrician
A. from your history it appears that your child is having colic pain due to gas in abdomen
in colic pain you can give anti colic medicines like colicaid 0.5 ml to the child and this medicine can be given maximum three or four times per day but to prevent this problem kindly do regular burping for 15 to 20 minutes.d
do not kee ep the child back on the bed after one burping (all gas is not removed with one burping)
during the cdolic episode you can do stomach massage and limb cycling movements and if the child is more than 2 months of age you can give tummy time also.
advisable to learn more about it from your doctor.

Q. my baby girl is not sleeping at night.
Dr Vandan H Kumar
Paediatrician
A. the sleeping pattern of the child changes from time to time and will improve with increasing age of the child. if the growth and weight gain of the child is proper along with proper urine stool then there is no need to worry regarding the sleeping pattern.
you have to just see that the child is not having any disturbance during the sleep because it can occur due to gas as well as due to digestion problem. aldso see for the comfort of the child and see the bedding on which the child is sleeping.
try to prevent temperature variations around the child that is from hot to cold and cold to hot weather because that also can cause disturbance in the sleep. d

A. Could be due to stomach pain and sometimes kids have an aversion to a particular breast and they do not like to take direct breastfeeding also since you haven’t mentioned the current age of your child I would recommend you to kindly consult a specialist one time
