Overstimulation in Toddlers: The What, Why and How
Does your toddler feel unsettled and cranky when strangers try to carry him? Does your toddler feel cranky at social events? Is your child feeling exhausted after a long day, full of learning and play? Then chances are that your child is reacting to overstimulation.
Overstimulation occurs when a child is exposed to more sensations, experiences, situations and noises than he or she can deal with. Each one of us has a threshold limit for tolerance, and children are no different. Over-stimulated children end up feeling tired and overwhelmed. Providing a calm environment is just one of the things that help parents to deal with overstimulation in children.
Effects of Overstimulation
Broadly, there are two types of effects of overstimulation on children; one is physical, and the other is behavioural. These effects manifest in the following ways:
Physical Effects of Overstimulation
1. Color
The skin of a child may seem pale or bright red.
2. Breathing
You will observe changes in breathing from slow and regular to quick and choppy.
3. Movement
Movement changes from smooth movements to jerks and tremors.
Behavioral Effects of Overstimulation
1. Spacing Out
A child begins suddenly looking away from the parents and caregivers and staring into space.
2. Switching Off
Turning away repeatedly when there is an attempt to engage him or her.
3. Shutting Down
In case of persistent overstimulation, kids might suddenly move from the state of alertness to the state of drowsiness.
Overstimulation Cues
Tired and Cranky
Over-stimulated children tend to be cranky or tired. They are prone to crying much more than usual.
Rejection
When they are feeling upset or overwhelmed they might turn their heads away from you.
Jerky Movement
Baby’s movements might become jerky.
Aggressive Body Language
Clenched fists, waving arms or kicking are the common sign of this.
Behavioural Problems
You may experience behavioural problems like temper tantrums, going into a shell, refusing to cooperate, refusing to engage even in activities that they otherwise find pleasurable.
How to Deal with Overstimulation
Providing a calm environment to an over-stimulated child is the best way. Take him or her to a quiet place to help the calming process. Wrapping the newborns helps as it reduces physical sensations. Carrying the baby also proves to be useful. In case of toddlers, it is wise to listen to your child in order to understand what he or she is feeling. This will help you come up with better solutions to deal with the problem.
Even if your child does not speak out, you can look out for subtle body and behavioural signs of overstimulation. You can increase support by swaddling the baby, gently swaying, or encouraging her to suck something like a pacifier, your breast or finger. Alternatively, you can decrease stimulation by speaking more quietly and holding the baby still for a few minutes. These techniques should help your child calm down.
When you try these interventions, you will immediately notice that your child’s skin color returns to normal, jerky movements stop and breathing becomes more regular. All children experience overstimulation at some point of time. The key to dealing with the problem is to be watchful and work towards calming your child. Read more

1 tbsp oil
¼ cup hot milk
¼ cup hot water
4 tbsp cheese, grated

Steam the carrots and beans. Heat butter in a pan and add oil as well followed by crushed garlic. Now add the flour and cook it for 2-3 minutes.

New Born Routine in the First Month of Time and Care
On the first week of the newborn, the baby will sleep all the time, and they require one to two tablespoons of milk every 1 hour. In the first month, the baby only requires frequent feeding (10 to 12 in 24 hours) and a lot of sleep. To keep newborns comfortable, they need a warm bed that mimics the womb environment.
Make the baby accustomed to your daily routine; for example, if it's morning, make him feel bright by turning on the light if the room isn't well ventilated. Switch off the lights at night and keep a dim bed light on to give the baby the impression that it is night. Start doing the things listed earlier to help the infant establish a better sleep habit. This will help the baby and the mother feels comfortable with enough rest and sleep.
No one is allowed to enter the baby room during the first month since the newborn lacks the necessary resistance to fight any infection. Allow the baby to wear light, comfortable clothing during the summer. If it's cold outside, dress the baby in clothes that keep them warm. Before going to bed, make sure there are no mosquitos in the baby's room. To keep the baby room clean, make sure you clean it twice a day. Give the baby an oil massage twice a day, in the morning and evening, to help him become stronger over time.
Note: Make the baby's bed warm, but not too warm, as this can affect the baby's health. If you're a breastfeeding mother, feed the baby by sitting instead of bending down throughout the first month to avoid milk getting into the ears, which can cause health concerns.

Kids need Attention and Time of Parents To Grow and Bloom
Time together is what makes people feel most loved especially with the kids. In this period of uncertain lockdown when we the working mothers are struggling between the home, job work, the innocent kids are also locked down within the four walls of a house with no outdoor activities.
So its our responsibility to balance the household chores, job, along with keeping the kids engage in different activities like reading and writting, art and craft, story telling, different innovative games, small projects.
The task is not easy to keep them busy and enthralled them with curiosity, enthusiasm and passion.
Me, a moma of 3 yr old twins, a boy and a girl try to follow some routine activities to keep them engaged.
*10 mins simple basic exercise and 5 mins chanting of Jain Shloks.
Exercise to keep them fit and Shloks for Meditation and to make them know the chores of their religion.
* Story telling which all the kidos generally love, Aarav and Aahana also loves it.
* Drawing to paint the colours of their choice in the books and sometimes when I get busy in other things, I can see the rainbow of colours in the walls and in the tiles also.
* Playing with kids is of utmost important. Play and learn makes the things easy for us and kids also. Cricket, Building blocks, playing with cars, memory games, and other toys. Moreover they love to play with the kitchen utensils like bowls, plates and spoons.
*Art and craft work where they draw, cut, paste and get amused.
*Culinary activities where they cut, peel, make juice, bread-butter, jam- bread and other simple but different activities in kitchen with the help of their mumma.
* Alexa play this song, Alexa play that song and had to groove along with them to different dance numbers. A good workout with the kidos.
*Ludo, Carrom, cards, hide & seek to play and become kid with kidos.
*In this digital era mobile phones attract the kidos. We cannot keep them away from the charisma of phones. So in a day for half an hr they watch poems, cartoons, stories in phone.
We have to keep in mind the digital era also and should come up with the effective way to enhance the growth of kids. The micro moments of positivity, kind words, compassion, play and learn activates the Seeking System and makes the child more happy and healthy.
The Kids are born with sharp and smart minds. Their grabbing power is much more than we can imagine. They learn from the actions and perceive it gradually from what we speak. The kidos just need the full time attention of parents. The childhood once gone will not come again and we as a parent are lucky to cherish each and every precious moments with them. So love, live, and enjoy every moment with kids and make them memorable for future. Read more

A. many times and the most common cause would be due to accumulation of milk clots and sometimes it can be neurogenic pain and sometimes it might be a partx any local mass like lymph nodes or tissue pain.
if it is not improving with simple massage as well as simple hot compressesx and expression of accumulated milk then meet your doctor at the earliest for local examination.
