6 Beautiful Karva Chauth Celebration Ideas
In spite of the exhaustive fast and the long rituals, many married women especially in North India observe Karva Chauth stringently. They welcome it with extreme fervour and excitement. Find out how to celebrate Karva Chauth in an awesome way this year.
If you're a Bollywood fan, you definitely know what is Karva Chauth! It is a Hindu festival where a wife fasts from sunrise to sunset, for the long life of her husband. It is an opportunity to show your unconditional love for your husband. The long hours of fasting are proof! The Karva Chauth date 2015 is October 30 in India, when eyes will ardently wait for the Moon to rise.
Ways to Celebrate Karva Chauth
1. Write Cute Notelets or a Love Letter
Think fun this Karva Chauth. Don't just get up for 'sargi'; express your love and respect for your hubby. Leave cute notelets by his bedside, which he can find out when he wakes up. On one note card you may write why you love him along with a honeymoon picture. In another, write down some flirty notes and tape them on the car's steering and also decorate the bathroom mirror with kisses. This will definitely give a romantic start to the day.
2. Create an Artsy Video
Videos are super cool to relive the bygone days and cherish those memories together. Create a video that captures the glimpses of your wedding, honeymoon, a vacation you would never forget, and some fun collages. A wonderful memento would be recording a video to let him know how much you appreciate his presence in your life.
3. Surprise Him with Thoughtful Gifts
Traditionally, husbands are suppose to shower their wives with gifts for all the prayers and the tough fast. But, you can also return his love with some thoughtful gifts. They need not have to be expensive, but should carry your heart's message. Fill a box with his favourite treats and reminders of special dates.
4. Dress Up for The Date Night
Dressing up like a newly bride is the best part of celebrating Karva Chauth. So, dress up gorgeous and look compelling so that your hubby will go gaga over you. And, you know what follows the rest! Include love trails to lead him to the place where you'll wait for him to break the fast.
5. An Outdoor Retreat with The Stars
Who said you have to break the Karva Chauth fast at home? Instead, plan a romantic night just under the stars. Go on a boat ride or maybe just a candle night dinner near the poolside. Sometimes doing nothing is the best way to celebrate togetherness.
6. A Lone-Time at The Place where You First Met
Recreating your first date is the most romantic ways to celebrate Karva Chauth. Build up a store of happy memories. End this mesmerising day with a massage or a romantic movie. A simple way to show your love is kissing his forehead and hugging him to sleep.
Karva Chauth is all about shopping, looking gorgeous, and reinforcing the bond of love between you and your spouse. Despite the austerity, it's an occasion of gifts, lights, sweets, and togetherness. Go ahead and celebrate! Read more

Dealing with Sprains and Strains in Toddlers
Children with their zeal to explore are always on their toes. They run around, jump and stretch their bodies. In certain cases, stretching too hard leads to minor injuries. When a child ends up over-stretching his muscles, it causes him strain.
When children are at play, they move about and stretch their bodies. Sometimes, over-stretching a muscle can lead to a strain, while over-stretching a ligament can lead to a sprain. As parents, it is vital to be careful and essential to treat the injuries immediately. Some basic strain relief medicines and creams should be kept handy in the first-aid kit.
Bones in our body meet at joints, like knees, shoulders and elbows; it's only then that our body bends and rotates. Ligaments, which are strong elastic tissue bands, hold the bones together at these joints. Sprain happens if these ligaments are over-stretched or torn. Over-stretching may cause a mild pain, but if your child’s ligament is torn, it needs immediate medical help. Commonly, wrists, knees and ankles are found to develop sprains.
Difference between a Strain and Sprain
Though both these conditions would hurt your child in terms of the pain caused, strains don’t become too serious. This is because, strains are muscle pains, and may stay for sometime or for some hours. The affected area feels sore and can also get a little swollen. At times, it might appear to be bruised too.
On the other hand, a sprain would hurt your child right away. The injury usually looks swollen and bruised. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to move the injured area; it often feels like a broken bone.
Causes of Strains and Sprains
Strains happen when your child puts pressure on a muscle or pushes it too far, for instance, when he lifts up heavy objects. It can also happen when a child does intense activities without warming up the muscles properly. Playing some sport games or with soft-ball for the first time immediately after winters can strain your child’s calf and thigh muscles.
Sprains happen due to injuries, like having your ankle twisted. These injuries are common during sports, or when your child trips and falls.
Dealing with Sprains and Strains
Stop your child from doing any kind of activity for a while. Rest his injured body part if you feel it’s a strain or sprain. Don’t let him move the injured body part. This means that he should avoid walking with a hurt ankle or avoid using a hurt arm.
Apply cold packs to the injured body part. This helps in reducing the swelling.
Put on an elastic compression and elevate the injured part to reduce and prevent swelling.
Most of the times, it is difficult to differentiate between a sprain and fracture. It is best to consult a doctor immediately. Your child may need emergency help. You will be able to make that out from the injured area, or through the extreme expressions of pain. So, the next time your little one has strained or sprained his limb, be ready to take the necessary steps! Read more

My Experience of Having a Second Baby
The birth of my second child, Vatsal, proved to be a unique and happy event that I will cherish my whole life. I was in the operation theatre, and my anaesthesiologist Col. Singh was continuously patting my forehead. He was trying to keep me calm. My gynaecologist Col Bhadauria was narrating the entire procedure from the moment of incision and to my surprise, I was in complete senses. My eyes were stuck on a clock so that I would know the exact time of my baby's birth. I am incredibly grateful to Col. Singh and Col. Bhadauria for such a happy delivery. I was enjoying the surgery, and I was not in any pain.
Then, the paediatrician brought my baby and showed me his face, and Col. Singh congratulated me. The paediatrician pumped out the colostrum and helped my son feed for the first time. That day will always remain vivid in my memories. My older son is very close to me, and suddenly he felt the was unimportant, neglected. But I made sure that he is and will always be my baby. Everyone from home was giving gifts to newborn and my older son Rishabh, who made me a mother and called me Mumma for the first time, was running between everyone. Seeing him this way, I started sobbing and told my father to give a part of my gift to Rishabh. But then I collected myself and pledged that I would not let my children feel alone or neglected.
I will do everything possible to love, care, and protect them. My affection and love will always protect them from everyone's evil eye. I seek blessings for all mothers and children as this life as a mother; the role of a mother is incomparable. She is the only one who never gets tired or falls ill when it comes to taking care of her children. Now, my younger son is nine months old, and both brothers share a good bond and enjoy each other company. This is what I wished for. Gauri & Shankar, my prayer to you is to bless my sons with good health, prosperity, happiness, success and immense love for each other.

Breast Feeding, Formula Milk and Motherhood - Advice for New Mothers
If you have stepped into the shoes of motherhood recently, you must have come across the phrase “Mother’s milk is best for the baby.” This sentence may have been repeated multiple times by your In-Laws, or women in you family. Although, there is no denying the fact that Mother’s milk is the best, as it contains a lot of nutrients, Colostrum, anti-bodies and enzymes for good digestion along with countless benefits. But what if the Mother is not able to produce enough milk or sometimes no milk? Does that mean one is failing to be a good mother, or that her baby will not build that bond with her? Sometimes, a mother may not be able to produce enough breastmilk as per the demand of the newborn baby due to various reasons. But then the question arises, “Can I give formula milk to my baby? Is it safe for newborn? Does it have any side effects?”What is formula milk? Formula milk is milk powder for babies that contains all types of nutrients that a newborn needs. Although there is no comparison between breastmilk and Formula Milk, but it is safe to say that it is the best alternative for breast milk for newborn baby. It should also be noted that only breastfeeding doesn’t define motherhood. A Baby is connected to mother from the very first day through umbilical cord. It is true that skin to skin contact strengthens your bond with your baby but other than breastfeeding one can give skin to skin contact through cuddling, hugging and many more ways.Formula milk is good but why not cow milk or buffalo milk. Cow milk contains high proteins and minerals which is not good for babies immature kidney. It also contains high concentration of sodium which is sometimes toxic for the babies. Formula milk is made up of processed skimmed cow’s milk with added emulsifiers and stabilisers. It also contains plant based oils such as rapeseed oil, palm oil etc, amino acids, enzymes, lactose while some formula milk powder also contains probiotics.Formula milk is sometimes helpful along with breastfeeding for the babies with low birth weight to increase their weight. In some occasions if breastfeeding is not possible then infant formula milk powder is the best option. Other pros of formula milk is that anyone can feed baby so father can also feed baby in the night and mothers can get extra rest time, don’t have to worry about your eating habits as compare to breastfeeding mother who have to avoid some type of foods. It is also good for lactose intolerance baby as lactose free milk powder are also available in marketWith so many pros of Formula milk there might be some cons also. It can cause digestive problem sometimes such as gassy babies. One should be extra careful regarding the milk temperature and extra care is needed regarding hygiene, sterilised bottles, nipples and boiled water. While expenses for milk powder, bottles and sterilisers may increase, but the advantages are not something that can be ignored. To conclude, formula milk is good. It can not substitute the breast milk, but it is no way inferior to mother’s breastmilk in comparison. So, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. In the end, its all about enjoying the motherhood. Enjoy the sleepless nights, the stinky diapers and the smiles of your newborn when they look at you. You are doing a great job Mommy ! Read more

11 Surprising Reasons Why You Should Try French-style Parenting
French-style parenting is slowly becoming a norm - one of the reasons for it can be that new-age parents are increasingly developing the belief of 'self-improvement'. The French style of parenting boasts of possessing the secret of bringing up children correctly - it believes in treating kids like they are adults-in-training rather than helpless beings, and advocates doing things guided by a set of rules.
Benefits of French-style Parenting Techniques
Some of the benefits of French parenting practices are:
1. It Develops Coping Skills
The French-style parenting system is convinced that frustration is good - allow your kid to experience it because it may help her cope in unfavourable situations. French parents maintain that praising often might dilute its effect, making it meaningless. Most parents tend to praise everything their kids do, because they are afraid of hurting their feelings. However, French parenting encourages the use of praise when a kid does something truly worthwhile, giving her a sense of accomplishment. Similarly, kids should be expected to eat whatever has been cooked for the family and not demand something different, thus teaching discipline.
2. It Promotes Patience
Patience is an important virtue that can help kids overcome stress and anger. It allows the delaying of judgement so the she can make informed decisions, paving the way for a happy and peaceful life. A kid's aptitude to resist an instant prize and wait for something better predicts improved social, educational and health outcomes. Thus, French parenting maintains that kids must wait their turn to speak in the middle of a conversation, for their parents' attention, for dinner, or for the teacher to answer their query. It teaches them to tolerate delays sans anxiety and indignation.
3. It Endorses the Balancing of Needs
The French-style technique of parenting helps a kid understand that parents have a life beyond him and his needs - adult time is not only valid but also necessary, and requires no justification. It encourages parents to take time off and spend it as they desire and not believe that they are slaves to their kid's schedule. This attitude is highly likely to encourage your kid to get things into perspective - if she observes you and your partner taking some time to do things you enjoy, it might develop a sense of needing to balance things in her own life as well.
4. It Fosters Responsibility
French-style parenting does not consider sugar-coating for kids. If your kid forgets her permission slip signed for her trip, or misplaces her belongings, or scores low marks, she needs to deal with it. Suffering penalties for little misfortunes will make your kid think twice before overlooking or forgetting something important. It can prepare her to handle real-life situations and mishaps in a mature way. French-style parenting upholds that difficult experiences can be great learning opportunities as they can make kids resilient. In fact, trying to shelter your kid from painful events can only disrupt her emotional development.
5. It Furthers Physical Endurance
The French pay heed to physical activity among kids. They encourage kids to engage in quality time outdoors for a healthy body and mind. So, motivate your kid to get out her scooter, bike or sneakers and get moving! You can walk her to school, take her with you to a market nearby, and enrol her to practice a sport. French-style parenting discourages convenient pick-ups or drops by parents in their cars, especially if the distance is short.
6. It Avoids Overburdening The Child
The French-style parenting approach does not support involving kids in too many extra-curricular activities to the point where they have no breathing space! It believes in keeping leisure time for kids which can help boost creativity and inventiveness.
7. It Encourages Involvement in House Management
French parents coax their kids to get more involved in household activities like setting the table, shopping for groceries, mowing the lawn, and taking out the garbage. Kids are part of the family, and therefore must contribute and participate in the everyday functioning of the house.
8. It Teaches That Family Time is Valuable
Families that spend quality time together are likely to help children shape an optimistic sense of self-respect. For example, family dinner time is special - everyone must make an effort be present for it. In case it is not possible for everyone to be together every evening, members must schedule a lunch or dinner, followed by a walk, bike ride, or simply a chatting session with each other. Family activities need not be luxurious or expensive to be meaningful. When your kid feels valued by you as a parent, she is more likely to feel confident about herself.
9. It Solidifies Sibling Relationships
French-style parenting encourages family to help each other. For instance, older siblings walking their younger siblings to school, helping out with school work, or serving them food on the table - all this serves to cement the bond between siblings as they learn to be supportive of each other. It may not only make your kid more self-sufficient, but also lessen her demands from you.
10. It Inculcates Good Manners
French parents are huge on manners - they are simply non-negotiable. They raise their children to be well-behaved under all circumstances. Thus, every kid is expected to introduce herself, use courtesy words like 'thank you' and 'please' while dealing with others, greet everyone, maintain eye contact, and exhibit table manners. Developing social manners right from childhood can benefit your kid in becoming a good human being and construct healthy personal relationships with others. The sense of discipline spills over to dressing too. Parents ensure that kids always dress suitably for the occasion. For example, kids need to dress correctly even in the absence of a uniform. If they attend a birthday party, they must wear their best.
11. It Nurtures Autonomy
Kids often discover ways in which they can do things, but well-intentioned parents may thwart her budding autonomy by offering to do everything for her. French parenting, on the other hand, proposes that your kid is likely to feel self-assured when she does things on her own. By rushing to her help every time she is stuck, you might be preventing her from learning how to do things and gaining self-confidence in the process. Providing a sense of autonomy to your child may also strengthen her toughness and determination.
Some people believe that the French-style of parenting is too authoritative and strict as compared to parenting styles that support soft behaviour moulding. But what works for some parents may not necessarily work for others. Regardless, all parents strive to perform their duty and play their part in the best way possible. Exploring the French way can be a means for you to do the best thing for your kid.

Contribution – Am I a bad momma who can not take care of her kids ??
So my topic itself tells the whole story. I am mother of 2 daughters (3.7 years old and 2 months old) and I am also a working mother though at present on maternity leave.
What went wrong with me is my elder daughter, I love her the most and now at this age people say that I spoiled her as she has some bad habits like drinking milk from bottle, nt eating frouts and veggies. Since starting she is with domestic help and they haven’t taken proper care of her also in between my in-laws and my parents have also taken care of her but all in vague. As when some good things will happen they will take the credit that it’s cz of them and all these habits which is bad is cz of me, for her every single thing which is bad I am the one who is to be blamed. As a guilt stricken mother who doesn’t give her more time so I use to pamper her a lot, I agree that I hv spoilt her but in the whole process I am alone even my husband also do not support me.
This all resulted in my baby not taking medicine, not stopping bottle feed as she is 3.7 years old, not eating proper meals, not trying anything new food. I am literally pissed of all the allegations made by them. Tumhi bigadi ho ! Sometimes out of anger I also hit her to uspe bhi I have to listen that ab kyun maar rahi ho bla bla bla.
I want to ask all the mommies out there is the child everything is only responsibility of a mom and does that tag her to be a bad momma. Is working a crime ? I agree that there are some bad habits in my child but she is a well behaved child, she is not underweight also, her overall development is completely fine.
Sometimes her acts also worries me but then I think she will not alws be a child and I keep trying each and every possible way to make her do things which is important.
So does this makes me a bad momma ?
