Health Benefits of Consuming Soaked Almonds
Wondering what a handful of almonds can provide with? It's not the end-of-the-day results that matter but the long-term benefits. Don't be surprised, because here is a list of the amazing benefits you get when you get start adding them to your diet-
1. Loaded with Nutrients
A handful of almonds packs a punch, in terms of nutrients. These nuts give you healthy fats and up to 37% of the Recommended Daily Amount (RDA). Your body won't absorb 10 to 15% of its calories since the fat cannot be accessed by digestive enzymes. Despite this, almonds pack an impressive amount of magnesium, manganese, monosaturated fats, and protein. Vitamin E content in almonds has been shown to give you smooth and shiny hair. Besides that, the antioxidant properties of almonds are known to prevent free-radical damage and reduce the risk of development of colon cancers. Soaked almonds have benefits for pregnancy as they have folic acid which has been known to prevent birth defects.
2. Protects Your Cardiovascular Health
Almonds contain flavonoids and healthy fatty acids which are monounsaturated acids or MUFAs. These improve your cardiovascular health and complement the antioxidant content in your body. Flavonoids are known to prevent inflammation while Vitamin E and various other nutrients regulate your cholesterol levels. In fact, there's a study that shows how almonds lower your LDL "bad" cholesterol levels and build healthier arteries, unclogging them and preventing the buildup of plaque. What does that mean? Lesser plaque equals more regulated blood pressure levels which are good for you.
3. Beats Overeating Tendencies
Almonds pack a lot of protein, fats, and fibre which are known to reduce cravings and promote satiety. Many studies have shown that eating almonds reduces a tendency to overeat which is great for you. Less overeating and more satiety mean you lean towards a calorific deficit, thus promoting weight loss. So yes, eating soaked almonds for weight loss works. If you want to gain weight, you can also eat soaked almonds by just increasing your calorific intake.
A 2003 study by the International Journal of Obesity was conducted on women who ate almonds for six months. The study revealed astonishing results on weight loss and regulation of their BMI.
4. Improves Mood and Memory
Almonds have been shown to contain L-Carnitine and a host of other nutrients which lead to the production and growth of new brain cells. Phenylalanine, a chemical in the brain which is tied to cognitive capabilities is proven to improve memory. The Vitamin B6 in almonds is known to enhance the bioavailability of proteins to brain cells. This stimulates neurotransmitter chemical production in your brain and improves the neuroplasticity factor. When your neuroplasticity improves, your brain is able to create new synapses, make more connections between cells, and learn new things faster. That translates to better retention, easier learning, and most important of all - a good working memory.
5. Boosts Bone Density
Eating almonds will help you meet your daily calcium intake and strengthen your bones. As we age, osteoporosis develops as our bone density decreases and our bones get brittle or weak. But with a bit of strength training and the goodness of almonds, you can reduce or eliminate that early on.
6. Develop Probiotic Bacteria
Almonds promote the development and growth of gut-healthy probiotic bacteria. Without these, your digestive system would be a wreck and you would face a lot of health issues. Probiotic bacteria in your gut is also responsible for beating nutritional deficiencies and making sure that the nutrients get absorbed and utilized by your physiology efficiently whenever you eat a wide variety of foods. One of the advantages of eating soaked almonds in the morning is that it improves your gut functions.
7. Balances Your pH Levels
Acidic bodies serve as breeding grounds for cancer-causing carcinogens, illnesses, and various diseases. Almonds are known to alkalize your body and give you a nice detox with its host of nutrients. This translates to a healthier and optimally functioning digestive tract and a stronger immune system.
8. Improves Blood Sugar Regulation
Type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome are two medical conditions occurring throughout the world. Since almonds are low in carbs, they regulate blood sugar for diabetics. Plus, insulin function improves and the nuts supply the body with a key nutrient 'magnesium' which is responsible for over 300 bodily functions. If that's not enough, you'd be surprised to know that most people around the world are deficient in magnesium or don't require the minimum intake. But with a handful of almonds every day, you'll be all set.
9. Lowers Incidence of Stroke and Blood Pressure
Magnesium, a mineral found in almonds, when deficient in the human body, may lead to high blood pressure cases. And high blood pressure is one of the top reasons of stroke, heart attacks, and cardiac arrests. Thankfully, the answer to this problem is eating a handful of almonds daily.
10. Good Source of Riboflavin
Your body needs riboflavin to produce energy and transport it to various organs. Vitamin B2 is known for preventing migraines, improving cognition, and lowering depression. Besides that, this nutrient maintains your eye health and leads to increased haemoglobin production in the body. This prevents anaemia and beats that fatigue or dizziness people experience.
Why Is It Better to Soak Almonds in Water Before Eating?
Almond peel has a compound called tannin which is known to inhibit nutrient absorption. What this means is that when you eat almonds raw, without soaking them, the nutrients don't enter your bloodstream or don't get used by your body efficiently. However, when you soak almonds and eat them without the peel, they get absorbed well.
How to Soak Almonds in Water?
Soaking almonds in water isn't that difficult. Here is how you do it:
Get a large bowl.
Add two cups of water for one cup of almonds.
Make sure the water covers the almonds fully.
Let the bowl sit on the kitchen countertop for overnight or roughly 6 to 12 hours.
Drain out the water and rinse.
You can eat the almonds as they are, with their peels after soaking or de-skin and eat just the nuts
If you're planning to refrigerate, make sure to store it in an airtight food-grade container.
FAQs
Here are some frequently asked questions about soaked almonds and how to go about consuming them.
1. How Long Should I Soak Almonds in Water?
The soaking time depends on when you want to eat it. If you're planning to eat it in the morning, then it's a good idea to soak it overnight. The minimum soaking time for almonds, in general, is 12 hours prior to consuming them.
2. Are Soaked Almonds Better Than the Raw Ones?
Soaked almonds are better than raw ones because the peels come off easily and the tannin doesn't get in the way of nutrient absorption. They are also easier to digest and don't add any weight to your body.
3. How Many Soaked Almonds Should I Eat Daily?
How many soaked almonds you should eat in a day will depend on your appetite, your calorie requirements, activity levels, and overall diet or lifestyle. However, for optimal results, just enjoying a handful or a tablespoon of these is enough to give you the benefits. If you want a specific number, eat at least 8 to 10 soaked almonds every day.
Almonds are good for your skin, hair, weight, and health. What more evidence do you need to start eating them? And the good news is that you don't just have to eat them raw after soaking. You can make your own nut butter and non-dairy cheese using these nuts. Or maybe swap out cow's milk for almond milk for that cup of lactose-free coffee. The options are endless but one thing's clear, they are definitely worth the eat.

10 Best Ways to Have Better Family Communication
The best families are often ones that have good communication. If you envy how your friends' families get along so well and you have issues with your own, here's the secret - it's communication.
It's a simple concept that's often overlooked. But don't worry, we'll tell you how to work on it and make sure you craft good memories. More on that below.
Why is Good Communication in Family Important?
Having good family communication skills is important because of the following reasons:
You Get to Know Each Other Better
Sometimes our busy lives prevent us from interacting. And when you get swept up with that, you feel like totally different people who never knew each other when you finally talk. It creates a sort of disconnect and a good way to prevent this is by talking to your family.
It Prevents Gossip
When you ignore conversations or don't make the time to talk, gossip spreads. Maybe they think you're avoiding them or ignoring intentionally when that's not really the case. You can prevent this by developing good communication with your family members.
It Eliminates Assumptions and Negativity
Healthy communication between family members is a good way to eliminate assumptions and negativity from floating around the house.
How to Improve Family Communication?
Here are 10 good ways you can foster good communication between family members:
1. Dine Together
Don't let your kids and wife have meals while being cooped up in their own rooms. Make your family sit at the table and make that a routine. Enjoying meals together is a good way to open up the lines of communications and get your group talking. Plus, it makes meal times a lot more fun too.
2. Schedule Family Time
You can't get family time if you don't make time for it. Schedule an hour a day for a sit together at the table or just idle talk. It doesn't have to be an hour; just 20 minutes will work as well. Either way, plan out some activities during this time or get ideas for conversations ready such as what's going on, what's trending, or anything your kids or family members feel like sharing.
3. Do Activities Together
Doing activities together is a proven way to bond and interact with your family members. Activities could include playing videogames, golf, or anything that can be enjoyed as a group. Don't make this optional but a ritual instead. Plan out movie nights on the weekends and go out together. Other simple activities could include reading to your kids before bedtime or just tucking them in and spending a few minutes with them.
4. Go for the Problem, Not The Person
It's natural for us to explode when weird things go around in the house. Sometimes your child may break stuff, or your wife may mess up a few chores. It happens, we're human. Maybe even you got something wrong and got blamed for it. It's important to shift the attention from the person to the problem. Make it a point not to accuse or complaint about anyone but focus on how to fix the problem. IF there are leaks in the house, don't blame your family members for it. Focus on what can be done to fix it. It's a lot more positive that way.
5. Appreciate Your Family and Be Kind
It really helps to show some appreciation and kindness to your family members. This could be something as simple as attending your son's high school football game or making time for your daughter's concert. When your kids are struggling, show some positivity by appreciating their talents and never discourage them. If you want to critique them, go ahead but make sure it's positive and constructive, not the type that makes a person feels bad about themselves.
6. Use Technology to Connect
Although it's a good idea to interact and communicate in-person, sometimes life happens, and that's not possible. This is when interacting with your family over social media, your own family website, email, or Skype is important. Pick one to two digital communication channels and use them. Share songs, art, or any event going on there, comment, and socialize with your family.
7. Listen Intently
When a family member talks, don't cut them off mid-sentence. Listen to them actively and intently. Let them speak and articulate their thoughts verbally. Hear them out because the backbone of communication is this. If you don't listen, how will you know what's going on inside their minds?
8. Talk in the Car
If your family travels a lot, and you find your members glued to their devices, it's a good idea to turn off electronic devices and just chat while enjoying the scenery. You have to make opportunities like this, no matter where you go, especially when you're on the move with your family members. This helps create a positive communication environment too.
9. Schedule "Me" Time
"Me" time is just one-to-one time with your family members. Sometimes your kids may want to talk about things with you but can't because they're too embarrassed. By spending some alone or one to one with them, you strengthen bonds and literally help them open up. It's also a good way to get to know people on a personal level, and that's what you should want.
10. Put in the Time
The final ingredient to bettering your family relationships is simply putting in the time. You have to invest time into improving this, especially if things look like they've come to a standstill. There's no other way besides this, and you have to be patient. Be positive, make an effort to interact, show that you care and build family communication patterns- and your family members will start responding eventually. That's just how relationships work; it's a two-way street.
And there you have it. Just work on these tips and let us know how it goes. Communication is a wonderful thing an when you feel the positivity building; you really feel like you're at home.

The Silent But Dangerous Risk Many Unborn Babies are Facing
A balanced diet, regular exercise, the right skincare and healthcare products – you do everything in your power to stay fit during pregnancy. After all, this is a highly sensitive time for your little one’s growth and development. But despite all your efforts and caution, there is still a threat lurking silently in your house. It exists without making its presence felt but that doesn’t mean it is something you can ignore. Behind your back, this threat can damage your unborn baby’s brain and trigger a number of other medical conditions…
Ongoing research has now established without much doubt that wireless radiations can do untold damage to the foetus. These radiations emanate from most of the electronic devices you use at home – mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and even wireless routers. The World Health Organisation (WHO) in a 2011 report has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B)! Other researchers agree. The BioInitiative Working Group in a 2012 study has also concluded that there is increased evidence connecting health risks and electromagnetic fields (EMF). Worse, young children and pregnant women are at particular risk.
"There is now much more evidence of risks to health affecting billions of people worldwide. The status quo is not acceptable in light of the evidence for harm."
Understanding The Risk to Your Unborn Baby
Let’s understand in more depth what makes unborn babies especially vulnerable to EMF and the resulting radiations. The reason is simple: these radiations react continuously with the embryo. Your growing foetus is tiny and gentle, his skull also very thin. The softer brain tissue allows radiations to penetrate more easily. This constant exposure poses a number of problems.
At the outset, it can interfere with the electrical impulses that connect synapses in the developing brain. In the long run, this can set off developmental malformations. In fact, it has also been linked to nervous system disorders, behavioural disorders such as attention deficit hyper-activity disorder (ADHD), autism and asthma.
It is the seriousness of this risk that has prompted several doctors, scientists and health experts from around the globe to come together. Medical practitioners have now started warning pregnant women of these risks and making them aware of the right approach toward gadgets, especially at this sensitive time.
How You Can Keep Your Baby Protected
Since prohibiting the usage of gadgets is not a feasible option, you need to explore an alternate solution. Luckily for expecting moms, radiation protection chips are now available to avoid exposing yourself and the baby in your womb to wireless radiations. Try Envirochip’s protection chip for all your household devices; these are very easy to put together and quite affordable too. Envirochip is made of inert materials which operate at a higher frequency than the radiations from your gadgets. This means that the nature of the waveform gets changed from constant to random, which is no longer harmful for the human body.
Your womb is your baby’s home for several months at a stretch. It is a safe haven where he grows every day and prepares to enter the world. Make sure he is perfectly safe in there and protected from extraneous threats. Even this early in life, you have a responsibility toward his wellbeing. Make sure you deliver on it and also earn yourself much-needed peace of mind! Read more

A Baby is Too Fragile to be in a Maid’s Hand
When my baby was born, my happiness knew no bounds. I was reborn, he was my lifeline. But I was novice,I feared my lack of experience will prove harmful. Motherly instincts and hormonal imbalance were also at their peak that time. So, I desperately needed a support system. Hence, I had a professional hired for my baby's morning rituals. She massaged, bathed him and took care of him few hours a day. Life was so easy with her support. Until one day, the baby maid informed me that my baby is inconsolably crying.
To my horror, my sixth month baby had a pulled elbow episode while massaging. I ran to the paediatrician but he couldn't help. I felt helpless seeing him crying and not being able to use his hand. He was in immense pain. Luckily, that day a child orthopaedic doctor was visiting our city. I went to him but the queue was too long. A generous lady offered me to use her turn and I entered his cabin. He relocated the elbow in just few seconds but it was dreadful to watch. He advised me to get rid of all baby maids. He said everyday he comes across cases of necks and hipbone fractures in infants due to the wrong techniques of massage by these maids. Only SAARC countries propagate massage before bath theory. Massage does no good to the baby, its all misconception. Babies do not need massage, just our love is enough for them. He taught me the right technique of picking up a baby and advised to be extra careful with him till he is six. After that, bones gets strong. Since then, I have taken over all the duties of my baby and no massage for him ever. He is fine and fit. We blindly follow our elders methods of bringing up a baby sometimes as they are full proof but little introduction of science will not do any damage. Some traditions if harmful should be get rid off.

Find Out If You've a Strong Willed Child
You say the zebra has black and white stripes, but he says it has white and black stripes. No matter how much you try to reason that both are the same, your tot will not accept your answer. It is white and black and NOT anything else. Have you gone through such experiences? Well, you might be the parent of a strong willed child.
So, what's the strong willed child definition? Also referred to as a difficult or stubborn child, can be a challenge to your parenting skills. A sensitive approach can help them grow up to be self motivated, confident individuals with high integrity. These five pointers can help you ascertain whether you have a strong willed child.
Strong Willed Child Symptoms You Can Easily Spot
Catch Me if You Can
They are fast. Strong willed children are fast at everything – walking, talking, eating. As babies, they might even start walking and running, giving crawling a total miss! The incessant talking and running can drive you to near insanity when he’s a tot but is a boon once he grows up. He is sure to teach you one thing everyday - just what does it mean to be strong willed!
The Small Big BOSS
They generally ensure that they have their own way. This isn’t limited to parents and daily food, play or other habits, but it can also extend to friends wherein they set the rules of the games and the role of each player. The next time you give your child those yummy round cookies and she insists on the square ones, be rest assured that you have a strong willed child.
Little Ms./Mr. Right
It's difficult to convince strong willed kids that they are wrong. All your well meaning efforts can be met with a fit of rage. Children who aren’t strong willed will accept a parent’s explanation. However, children who are strong willed have very strong beliefs and thoughts which might be difficult for parents to change. In fact, this is one of the most distinctive characteristics of a strong willed child.
Power Play
If your tot is testing your limits by being disobedient, you might be seeing a strong willed child in action. Such kids like to be in control, make their own rules, and stick to their terms and conditions. They don't want their mom, dad or anybody else to dictate the whens, whats and wheres in any scenario.
Parenting The Strong Willed Child
Raising strong willed children can be complicated and frustrating. Keep the following tips handy when you feel like pulling your hair out!
Setting limits for your strong willed is crucial. TV time for one hour means exactly that and is not up to negotiation.
Reduce the number of small rules and keep broader ones in place. For example, a weekly reading target may be a better idea at first than a daily one. When your child gets into the habit, he will turn to books of his own accord.
When dealing with strong willed child, consciously avoid power struggle. Respect your child and don't baby-talk to him.
Acknowledge your child’s personality and never compare him with other children.
Connect with him every day, even if you are very busy and have only bed-time to do so. Discuss how his day was and tell him about yours.
Make sure you reward good behaviour and clearly state the consequences of bad behaviour. These don't have to be negative but need to be firm, say, a 15 minutes time-out.
