How to Confirm Pregnancy Without Taking a Test?
Finding out that you are pregnant is usually a joyful moment. There might be many signs that you are pregnant from the day of conception, but you may not notice them.
While pregnancy tests are the sought after option, there are a few ways by which you can know with reasonable certainty that you are pregnant. In this article, we will look at how to confirm your pregnancy without a test, for the benefit of expecting parents.
22 Easy Ways to Confirm Pregnancy Without Taking a Test
There are a lot of ways to confirm pregnancy without tests - some involve observing the functions of the body, and others involve understanding how the mother is feeling. Let us take a look at a few ‘symptoms’ of pregnancy.
1. Missing Periods
In most cases, this is the reason women suspect that they are pregnant. When fertilisation occurrs in the uterus, it stops releasing eggs consequently, the woman stops menstruating. Even though missed periods may also be caused due to overeating, stress, and sudden weight changes, it is worth taking a look at if you have been trying to conceive a baby.
2. Spotting
Spotting refers to the phenomenon where bleeding occurs between a woman’s menstrual cycle. When the fertilised egg implants itself on the wall of the uterus, light bleeding occurs through the vagina. This is usually a couple of weeks after the woman’s last period. Spotting is usually a concrete sign of pregnancy, so it is best to consult the doctor if you observe blood at a different time than expected.
Spotting can sometimes also be accompanied by light cramping, which indicates that the egg has implanted itself along the lining of the uterus. Since spotting and cramping can be easily mistaken for the start of another period, here is how you can assess if your cramps are a result of implantation occurring in your uterus:
Your cramps might feel like pricks
Your cramps might feel like pulls
You might have a tingling feeling as a cramp
Implantation cramps may occur 6-12 days after your ovulation has occurred, which is usually also when a period begins, so make sure you assess what your cramps feel like. Remember that these cramps are not severe; if you feel severe cramping in your abdomen, call a doctor immediately.
3. Vomiting
Another common sign that a woman is pregnant is morning sickness. It is when a woman gets sick right after waking up and ends up vomiting for the slightest reason. It is caused due to the rising levels of the hormone in the woman and occurs around three weeks after fertilisation has occurred.
4. Feeling Full
Very early during pregnancy, women might feel unnaturally full even without having consumed a small amount of food. This feeling may be accompanied by excessive belching, flatulence and intestinal cramps. As the progesterone levels in the body rise, it affects the digestive tract and results in bloating .
5. Sensitive Breasts
Another early sign of pregnancy is sore breasts. They become tender and swollen and the nipples become tingly at the lightest touch. The colour of the nipple might also turn darker, and there may be small spots around the area. These spots are usually white in colour.
6. Urination
Hormonal changes occur in a woman’s body whenshe is pregnantbecause of which they feel the need to urinate at a much higher frequency than normal. A pregnant woman might have to rush to the washroom every half an hour, owing to increased blood circulation and higher levels of water retention in the body.
7. Pain in the Back
Periods are commonly accompanied by pain in the small of the back, which also happens during the early stages of pregnancy. The cause of this pain might be stress and hormonal changes, so they do not go away in spite of rest and massages. However, you can reduce this pain with light exercises and yoga as the pregnancy progresses.
8. Headaches
Headaches by themselves do not indicate pregnancy, but you have to be alert if it comes with any of the other symptoms mentioned here. Headachesare common as the first trimester progresses, and continue throughout the second trimester. The main cause is usually stress, so the headaches can be treated with rest .
9. Mood Swings
Mood swings become common when a woman is pregnant. The change in your mood is sudden and quick- you might be feeling happy at one moment, and irritable the next. These occur due to rising levels of the hormones in the bloodstream and can be reduced by trying to consciously maintain a cheery disposition.
10. Changes in Food Patterns
This can go both ways you might feel cravings towards a particular type of food and aversions towards others. This occurs due to rise in the levels of estrogen in the blood and can happen any time throughout the pregnancy. Food cravings can be satisfied, provided that the items are safe and that you do not overeat.
11. Fatigue
Expecting mothers go through a lot of changes in terms of their bodily functions, and all of this can result in loss of sleep and fatigue. This is caused in part due to progesterone in the blood, and nausea that occurs constantly. The fatigue usually subsides by the second trimester, but comes back during the third trimester.
12. Sensitive Gums
Sensitive gums can be a sign of pregnancy as well. The gums may be pain and bleed even when you brush really slowly. You need to consult the doctor anyway if you have bleeding gums.
13. Redness in Palms
The medical name for this condition is palmar erythema - the palms of an expecting mother get a a reddish hue early during pregnancy. This condition occurs due to the increase in estrogen levels in the body of the mother.
14. Nasal Congestion
When the hormones in the bloodstream increase in quantity, it results in the membranes of the nose becoming swollen and dry. This leads to nasal congestion in pregnant women, - your nose might start to feel stuffy or runny.
15. Basal Body Temperature
Basal body temperature is a great way to check if you are ovulating. Most couples who are trying to conceive chart the woman’s body temperature so that they can ascertain when she is ovulating. However, if the temperature remains high for around two weeks after ovulation, it almost always means that the woman is pregnant.
16. Sex Drive
Owing to the large quantities of hormones in the woman’s body , she might not have much of a sex drive after she becomes pregnant, at least in the initial stages. Sexual interest can also decrease in the woman due to fatigue , the stress of pregnancy, or medication.
17. Discolouration
Pregnancy causes changes in the pigmentation of your face and body. Your nipples may turn dark, and you may get dark spots around the forehead, upper lips and the bridge of the nose. The medical term for this phenomenon is melisma, also known as the ‘mask of pregnancy’. However, this change in colour goes away after delivery.
18. Dark Line of Hair
Pregnant women also grow a dark line of hair, starting from the top of the uterus to the pubic bone. This line might appear earlier if the woman is getting pregnant for the second time.
19. Pimples
The hormonal changes that take place in the body during pregnancy are similar to puberty, so it is no surprise that acne makes a reappearance during pregnancy. The woman’s skin becomes oily and patchy, and pimples start appearing all over the face. If the condition worsens on using sensitive skin products, talk to your doctor .
20. Itching
When a woman is pregnant, she might feel itchy on some parts of her skin. This occurs because the amount of blood supplied to the skin increases during pregnancy, making the skin more sensitive. To combat the feeling, you can wear comfortable clothing and maybe use a few types of pregnancy creams - if it becomes unbearable, you may have to pay a visit to your doctor.
21. Spider Veins
Pregnancy results in the release of excess amounts of estrogen into the bloodstream, and this can result in the formation of spider veins across the skin. These usually fade away after the baby is born- talk to your doctor if they do not go away.
22. Dry Skin
This occurs due to a combination of factors like the hormonal changes, fatigue and the lack of sleep that occurs during pregnancy. Speak to your doctor about how it can be treated if the condition worsens. Remember to be hydrated at all times, and keep your skin moisturised so that it does not affect you.

10 Benefits of Oiling Hair - Here's Why You Should Oil Your Hair Regularly
Hair care is a tricky affair. Several commercial products are supposed to help but they just don’t. This is because some of these products are only performing bits and pieces of what your hair actually needs. One addition to your routine to help hair health is oiling it. Apart from providing your hair with a source of hydration, oil can also provide the minerals and vitamins required to keeping it healthy.
10 Advantages of Oiling Your Hair That You Might Not Know About
While adding oil to your hair maintenance routine is beneficial, it is important to know why. Here are 10 major benefits to oiling your hair.
1. Helps Soften Curls
Curly hair dries much faster than regular hair. When it does dry, it becomes frizzy and hard to manage. Regularly oiling your hair with almond oil, olive oil, or coconut oil can help manage the frizz and give you soft, buoyant curls.
2. Hydrates the Hair
Hair tends to lose hydration due to the exposure it has to the elements, dry hair can lead to extensive hair fall. One of the most potent ways to avoid this is by applying oil on your hair the night before and showering the next day. Doing this three nights a week with coconut oil or olive oil is recommended.
3. Nourishes Your Hair
One of the main daily oiling hair benefits is that different oils possess minerals and vitamins essential to hair health. Almond oil has Vitamins B, K and E, Olive oil has Vitamins B12, B6, B3 and Vitamin K as well as Vitamin E. These are all essential to hair maintenance because of the deterioration your hair faces when it is exposed to the elements.
4. Prevents Hair Fall
A hair oil massage once a week is extremely important to your hair health. This is because hair oil massage benefits include exfoliation of the scalp, cleaning of dead skin and nourishing and revitalizing fine hair. All this helps prevent hair fall.
5. Helps Improve Hair Growth
Coconut oil is used in Thailand, Indonesia, Hawaii, New Zealand and Brazil for hair growth. Almond oil is commonly used in Europe, the United States of America and Japan for the same. Wherever you go, oiling for hair growth is considered a sure-fire thing.
6. Reduces Risk of Lice
Lice are attracted to a dry flaky scalp. They are also attracted to the bacteria caused due to the dead skin on your scalp. Different oils prevent the dryness and also remove dead skin and exfoliate the skin. Some hair oils like olive oil have anti-bacterial properties too, and a combination of these factors help prevent hair lice.
7. Prevents Dandruff
Like with lice, dandruff is attracted to an overtly dry and sweaty scalp, this can be difficult because dust and pollution can cause the dryness. Applying castor oil three nights a week overnight can help prevent dead skin cell build-up which is another reason for dandruff.
8. Strengthens Roots
By applying hair oil on your scalp regularly, it exfoliates the skin and removes harmful toxins from your hair. This clears hair follicles of harmful bacteria and strengthens your roots immensely. Additionally, applying hair oil also replenishes lost minerals and vitamins to your hair and scalp which also strengthens roots.
9. Prevents Bacterial Infections
Most hair oils have anti-bacterial properties; these oils when applied on the scalp can help prevent dangerous bacterial infections caused by exposure to the elements. Another cause of bacterial infections is residual bacteria from dead skin and hair, and hair oils help remove this from your scalp.
10. Prevents Anti-fungal Infections
Like with anti-bacterial properties, most oils have anti-fungal properties. These properties keep fungus growth away and keep fungal infections at bay. It is important to remember that fungal infections grow due to excess moisture, oiling and shampooing regularly can help balance the moisture levels on your scalp and hair.
Oiling Tips to Help You Maximise the Benefits
Just applying the oil and washing it off doesn’t help much. These tips can help you maximise the benefits of your hair oil.
When oiling your hair, massage the oil deep into the scalp for at least 10-15 minutes.
Use different hair oils during the week, this will help balance the benefits out and prevent over exposure of one oil.
Let the oil rest in your hair for at least 30-45 minutes before washing off.
Uses SLS free shampoos and conditioners.
Try hair masks at least once a week while oiling your hair.
Avoid washing your hair with hot water.
Let the oil rest in your hair for an entire night once a week.
Don’t condition your hair if you oil your hair regularly.
If you have coloured hair, use olive oil to treat the damage and use colour-friendly shampoos.
Curly hair needs frequent oiling, oily hair needs less. Figure out your hair type and plan your routine according to your hair’s requirements.
FAQs
1. How Often Should I Apply Oil on My Hair?
The frequency with which you oil your hair depends on the kind of hair you have. If you have dry hair, oiling it twice every week is great. However, doing it daily will help the frizzy, dry hair fare much better.
2. Which Oil Should I Use for Oiling My Hair?
The type of oil you use for your hair depends on the area you live in and the purity of the oil available. In most cases, the best oil for your head might be extra virgin almond oil but this can be expensive, as can extra virgin olive oil, so cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil is recommended.
3. Does Oiling Hair Regularly Cause Hair Fall?
Hair fall due to excessive oiling can occur depending on the type of hair you have. For extremely oily hair, you should oil it no more than two times a week. For dry hair, oiling daily is recommended to help hydrate the scalp and improves the follicles and body of your hair as well as overall hair health.
Applying hair oil is a healthy part of a routine, it shouldn’t be mistaken for the only part of it though. To learn more about hair care and how to care for your hair specifically, you can visit a dermatologist.

14 Innovative Ideas Moms Are Using to Potty Train Children Quickly!
Potty training is an important phase in our lives as parents. We want our little ones to be diaper-free (finally!) and use the toilet by themselves. But we also know that it isn't easy at all! Since this is the stage when kids love to run around and explore, the chances of a mess all around the house are pretty much inevitable. But wait - some parents have learned perfectly amazing ways to toilet train their kids! You've got to check out these really superb ways to potty train your baby quickly and successfully
Poop! That's probably one of the very few things about your baby that you do not find quite so pleasing (and you'll be lying if you said you do). As mothers, we have a lot of diaper-changing and cleaning to do, for several years in our babies' life. As an infant, cleaning your baby is still manageable. The cute gurgles and the new-found bond between you and your baby make even bum-cleaning fun! But come the terrible two's and your little one running around: the mess is now too much! That's when you know it's time to potty train.
Many moms start potty training their kids in toddlerhood (2-3 years of age). And it would be an understatement to say that it is difficult. Babies take time to switch from diapers and understand when and how to use the toilet. There will be a lot of mess, day after day, and it can get really exhausting for any and every mother. This is why moms all over the world are looking for and creating new hacks to potty train their little darlings.
14 Creative Potty Training Ideas
Check out the six most creative and effective ways parents across the world are potty training their kids. These methods have done very well for fellow parents and we recommend you definitely give them a try!
1. The Art Pot
Recently, a mom shared a photo of her little boy in the toilet. He was sitting all put and not fidgeting at all, like many children do when forced to sit on the toilet seat. Guess what made him learn to sit on the toilet so well and so patiently? An erasable marker!
What this clever mom had done was made her son sit backwards on the toilet while she kept giving him markers. It worked! He sat there drawing doodles and was perfectly happy about it. Sitting in this posture also ensured that there was less chance of missing (read: less mess to clean from the toilet floor). It also saved her tons of time chasing after him like she usually had to.
2. The Toilet That Changes Colour
This trick is captivating many little kids worldwide and creating more willingness to use the toilet. Just use food colouring to dye the toilet water with red or blue. When your child takes a leak, the water will change to orange or green. Needless to say, this will be super exciting and encourage your child to actually use the toilet.
Tip: You can make a little game out of it, based on how many times in the day your child can change the colour of the toiler water (more practice means quicker learning!)
3. Three-day Potty Training
Sounds unbelievable, right? But believe it or not, some moms have actually seen success with the three-day potty training method. There are three 'drastic' things you have to do for this:
Remove all diapers from home
Dress your child only in underwear
Make sure your child drinks a lot of liquids
As per fellow moms, the situation of being diaper free and having a tendency to pee more often (due to the liquid intake) teaches little ones to use the toilet! You just have to guide them along gently as far as using the toilet is concerned. And yes, try this method only if you are prepared for lots of accidents!
4. The Praise Pot
This one is simple but very effective: just make your child feel appreciated and like a grownup when he uses the toilet correctly. It can work wonders for his overall morale and interest in using the toiler. Try using a little compliment the next time your child uses the toilet successfully:
“Wow, what a big boy/girl you've become!”
“Let's call daddy and tell him?”
Praise goes a long way in motivating your child to use the toilet correctly. It may seem like a little thing to us but it's a really big milestone for the child. Watching his mom so happy about it will encourage him to try and please you more often.
5. Take a Shopping Trip
Prep for this phase with a shopping trip and involve your little one by asking his opinion or choice when buying potty training gear like a potty seat, underwear, rewards (like stickers and chocolates), etc.
This will not only help build excitement in your little one but also make it easier for you to get through the potty training time.
6. The Sticker Chart of Success
Create a daily chart that is colourful, maybe featuring your child's favourite cartoon character. Keep 'success' stickers ready. Each time your child has a successful bathroom trip, let her put up a sticker of success! Once the daily chart is all colourful and filled in your child will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment and you can heave a huge sigh of relief.
Why not take a leaf out of these moms' books and create your own way to quicken potty training? Just remember the key element that was present in all the above tricks and tips – positive reinforcement. Praise and reward is always the way to go to tackle a difficult situation with children. It is, after all, a very stressful time - both for you and your child - and a bit of fun, creativity and patience is key to setting things right.

7. Get Daddy Involved
This one is for the boys. Get daddy involved to help train your little one and take out a weekend for potty training! Get some ‘big boy’ underpants and ask your hubby can get his little one to go the bathroom by simply helping him do it ‘just like daddy’. You can even make a game out of it & see who goes to the bathroom at regular intervals!
This is not only an excellent way for potty training your child but also helps you get some quality family time!
Tip: You can even make a game out of it & see who goes to the bathroom at regular intervals!
Real Mom Rhea Swears by This Idea!
Mommy Rhea, a specialist in Child Psychology, states that she used this trick when it came to potty training her own child. She says, “You can keep a family competition around this time, as to who goes to the toilet each time they feel like going to the potty. Once your child connects with this thought that every member goes to the toilet each time they feel like going to the potty, they will develop a habit soon.” For potty training, she also adds,“ Appreciation is the key to the whole exercise. Each time your child even attempts to go near the toilet, praise him/her. If there is a caretaker who takes care of your child during your absence, instruct her as well to do the same.” Read more about her tips and tricks for positive toilet training here.
8. Tackle the Fear
From being scared of ‘falling in’, to being fearful of the flush noise, there is a range of reasons why kids are reluctant when it comes to potty training. Some kids even feel that their potty is part of themselves and flushing it can be a scary prospect. Try understanding what your little one’s fear is and tackle it by talking it out with him and explaining the natural process of potty in a fun way. When your child understands that there is nothing to fear about potty training, it will make it easier for both of you to get through this milestone.
Pro Tip: You can take a little quiz to understand your child’s personality. The Pull-Ups Potty Training Program is designed to help you determine your child’s personality – which can be one of 5 types: Owl, Puppy, Bear Cub, Turtle or Squirrel and share a custom potty training program based on the same

9. Set Fun Alarms
Use fun sounds that your little one loves as alarms at regular intervals to signal that its time to go sit on the potty! With your child looking forward to his favourite tune, he will gradually look forward to potty time as well.
Associating stuff that your child is fond of will help build a positive association with potty time, instead of the ‘fear’ or ‘forcefulness’ associated with it.
10. Create a Routine
From feeds to playtime to potty time, create a routine and help your child understand what’s coming next so he is prepared for what’s to come. Make sure to keep the routine in a manner that there’s some potty training time around 2 hours after every feed and a fun activity for your little one right after potty training.
This method will not only help you avoid accidents, but will also cut down on any fussiness or tantrums your child throws about potty training time as he has something fun to look forward to right after.
11. The Bag of Treats
We know most children aren't very gung-ho about potty training; who cares when there are diapers and the whole house at their disposal? This is when you get out the treat-bag! This is, in simple words, bribe, or in scientific words, positive reinforcement. ;)
Get a bunch of inexpensive gifts like stickers, candy and small toys and put them in a big colourful box or bag. Every time your child uses the toilet they get to pick a gift out of the bag and celebrate! This can go on for a week or so and by then the child automatically begins to use the toilet. Do continue to praise her even after the gifts run out. Many parents say that this was a quick and painless way to toilet train and is worth a shot!
12. Dress for Success
Opt for more functional clothing that is easy to remove (like trousers instead of dungarees) to make it easier and reduce the number of accidents. Additionally, get some ‘big kid’ underwear instead to help get your little one excited about this phase. If you opt for underwear with your kid’s favourite characters on them, you can better incentivize potty training by suggesting that their favourite character will be safe (“You don’t want to ruin your new underwear and pee on Elsa, right?’) if they sit on the potty seat.
13. Give the Gift of Choice
From letting them choose the location to asking them if they need to ‘go’ at regular intervals, give your child little chances to choose so he feels like he is in control of the situation. This will also help your little one be more prepared for potty training time
14. Finally, Get a ‘Potty-Whisperer’

Downstairs Climbing in Toddlers
Needless to say, going down the stairs takes more time and effort compared to climbing up. Follow these easy stairs climbing down techniques for toddlers and help your child gain confidence while climbing down steps. Here’s to an injury-free stair-climbing journey!
As soon as your baby starts crawling and walking, you can expect to see her fascinated by staircases. This is the time you need to be very cautious and put up proper gates near the stairs. You also need to teach her the right way of climbing up and down. Remember, it’s much easier for a child to learn climbing up the stairs. It’s down-climbing that’s trickier as it requires more balance. If you’re not watchful when your baby climbs down, she might hurt herself. Here are some easy tips that will guide you and your child when she’s descending.
Tips for a 22-month-old Going Down the Stairs
1. Reverse Crawling Down the Stairs
Before your little one starts experimenting on her own, introduce her to certain down-climbing lessons. You’ll be surprised to see how easy it is for toddlers to climb down stairs without assistance. Help your tot reach the milestone by encouraging her to go downstairs with the support of her tummy. She can do this while placing her knee on the lower step like reverse crawling. However, check that in doing so, she doesn’t slide down.
2. Scooting Down the Stairs
After your baby has mastered the art of reverse crawling down the stairs, you can teach her to scoot down. Encourage her to imitate you. Make her sit a few steps above you and use your hands to help her scoot to the next step. Continue doing this a few times. She’ll absolutely enjoy it!
3. Go Slow and Steady
After your baby confidently moves down the stairs in sitting positions, it’s time to teach her to walk down. One of the safest ways for toddlers to go down the stairs is by starting with the bottom three steps. Hold her hand and help her in getting down the last three. Once she gets a little comfortable, let her practice on her own but be alert.
4. Clap-clap-clap
Has your baby started climbing up the stairs? Learn the safest way for toddlers to go down the stairs too and avoid getting hurt.Place your child two steps above you and stand facing her. Hold her hands and help her come down one step at a time. She’ll initially put her feet on a single step. Slowly, she’ll learn to alternate her steps while climbing down. Every time she climbs down one step, appreciate her efforts by clapping.
5. Importance of Banister Support
By now, your child should be climbing up the stairs easily. To make sure she climbs down without losing her balance, stay close to her and prompt her repeatedly to hold on to the banister. Show her a few steps down and once she holds on to the hand rail automatically, you can allow her to climb down the stairs on her own.
These 5 down-climbing techniques are effective in giving your baby enough confidence to try the stairs on her own. However, don’t rush through the process. Take it one step at a time and keep motivating your little one. Has your tot started to try down-climbing? How have you helped her? Read more
