What Is Dalia?
Dalia is simply broken wheat or cracked wheat. It can be made from different grains such as barley, wheat, or corn. But in many Indian states, it is made from wheat and in a variety of ways. For adults and kids, you can make thick dalia; however, when making it for your baby make sure the consistency of dalia is thin. If you are just getting your baby started on solids, thin dalia will be easier to swallow and digest.
When Can You Start Giving Dalia to Infants?
One of the primary reasons parents are eager to give dalia to their babies is that it is filling. It is very nutritious and provides a lot of energy to babies. It also stimulates the digestion system. This is why many parents start giving dalia to their babies by the time they turn 7-8 months of age. However, the best time to introduce dalia in your baby's diet would be when he is between 10 and 12 months of age. By this time, your little one will be able to digest solids and reap the maximum benefits from it.
Health Benefits of Broken Wheat for Babies
When starting off the baby on solids, make sure you start off with foods that offer a variety of health benefits which a child might not have otherwise received from breast milk. Dalia provides some of the most important benefits in this regard.
One of the major benefits of dalia is that it helps increase the appetite of babies. While breastfeeding your baby, you can start off with dalia helps keep the child full and is in a way, a better option than rice or flour-based preparations.
Broken wheat is a good source of minerals, primarily phosphorus, magnesium, and iron. All of these are extremely vital in the development of the child, both physical as well as mental, and provide the support to be a healthy individual.
The process of breaking whole wheat releases specific compounds and substances that are rich in fibre content and various nutrients as well. These can provide the necessary strength to the developing digestive system and improve the metabolism too.
Healthy Dalia Recipes for Babies
There are a lot of recipes that you can make with dalia. We’ve put together some of the healthiest and tastiest dalia recipes that you can make for your little one.

Dalia - 1 cup
Peas - 1/2 cup
Carrots (finely chopped) - 1
Medium-sized potato (cut into small pieces) - 1
Onion (finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
Urad dal - 1/4 cup

Chilli (optional)

Once the mustard seeds start popping, add the curry leaves and onions, followed by the urad dal and sauté them for a while.
Then add the vegetables and turmeric and mix well.
Add a pinch of salt then cover the pan with a lid, and let it cook for a few minutes.

Simmer until all the water is absorbed then give it to your baby.
2. Dalia Kheer
If you want to make something sweet for your child, make dalia kheer. Dalia kheer is an all-time classic sweet dalia recipe for babies. This is pretty much how most of the kids of the current generation are introduced to dalia, and it can never go wrong.

Cook it on a low flame for about 15 minutes. Keep stirring and add water and milk to adjust the thickness.
Once done, mix in the nuts and cardamom powder and serve in a bowl.

Then add some hing to the mix and follow up with all the chopped veggies and peas.
Add a little water along with salt and let it start boiling.
Pour the dalia in it and stir to prevent the formation of lumps. Keep stirring until the dalia softens.
Make sure the water gets evaporated and dalia is cooked well before you serve it to your baby.
4. Dalia Lapsi
An age-old recipe that is generally given as the very first solid to a baby is a must-try for your baby!
Ingredients
Dalia - 1 cup
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Jaggery - 1 tbsp
Water as required
Method
In a pressure cooker, heat some ghee then add the dalia to it. Sauté the dalia properly until its colour changes slightly and the aroma rises.
Take the jaggery in a pan and add water to it. Let it boil until the jaggery dissolves completely.
Once the jaggery dissolves, add the jaggery water in the cooker and stir well. Close the cooker and let it sit on medium heat. Cook it for three whistles.
Release the pressure, take out the cooked lapsi in a bowl and serve it to your child while it is warm.
Introducing solids to your baby can be quite an experience and dalia is one such food that you can definitely introduce once your baby reaches 10 months of age. Dalia is tasty and healthy and very easy to cook. So make tasty dalia recipes for your baby and watch your little one enjoy it.

15 Months Old Baby Growth and Development
Your toddler is developing at an amazing rate and before you know it he/she is over a year old.
15-month baby milestones are many, and your baby will achieve them in order to be a healthy and happy child. From small smiles to full-hearted laughter you as parents will witness the many wonders of life as your toddler grows up.
15 Months Old Toddler Development
Your 15-month-old toddler is developing fast with his cognitive skills, motor skills and language skills shaping up. There are several milestones he will achieve around this time and begin to understand and grasp the world around him.
Physical Development
Running behind your little one can be both healthy and difficult at the same time, but you will have to learn how to keep up with your baby will be all over the house soon. Every day you will watch your child accomplish more physical goals than the previous day. Your 15-month-old baby weight will be around 21-24 pounds provided he/she has received nutritious, healthy food options including breast milk
Some of the things your cutie will be able to do are: -
Be able to walk slow and steady steps with or without help
Will be able to hold himself/herself up and sit up with no support
Will be able to grab toys and things with their hands with a firm grip
Will have developed hand to mouth coordination to a certain extent, i.e. will try and put food and anything else in sight into his/her mouth
Your baby will try to participate in activities by trying and helping you around the house either by picking up the phone and talking or by using the mop
Your child will also be learning to use all his/her five senses such as touch, smell, examination, sight and sound and begin making associations with them
Social and Emotional Development
Your child is developing various abilities to interact with his/her environment including social skills and emotional development.
Here are some sure signs of emotional development in your child
Loves being the centre of attention
Can identify himself/herself in the mirror
Will start smiling and recognising people in her environment
Starts getting their own likes and dislikes
Boldly explores and tries new things
Hugs and kisses you
Dislikes sharing toys
Has temper tantrums about things
Cognitive and Language Development
By the time your toddler has reached 15 months, he/she is capable of simple sounding words such as ‘Ma’ and ‘Pa’. His language and cognitive abilities are developing rapidly, and your baby will be more independent and willing to participate in the conversation in his/her own way
Most 15-month-olds will be able to
Recognise the tone of voice, i.e. angry, upset or happy
Will be able to use simple works such as ‘ball’, ‘dog’ ‘cat.’
Your toddler will be able to understand the word ‘No’ and will also use it effectively and frequently
He/she will also be able to grasp action-based words such as ‘Show me’, ‘Look here.’
Your toddler will be able to understand more words than he/she can speak
Behaviour
As your toddler approaches what is popularly termed as the ‘terrible twos’, i.e. 24 months or 2 years, he or she will start developing a personality of their own and may subject you to some of his/her temper tantrums. Your child will also be very curious about his/her environment and will be quite participative in everything. Your 15 month old also might start exhibiting a bit more stubborn behaviour when it comes to a lot of things. At this stage, it is important for you as parents to be more assertive and get him/her to calm down first and not encourage destructive behaviour. While don’t go too easy, also don’t be too hard on your baby. Moderation is the key to manage his/her behaviour.
Food and Nutrition
While your toddler grows, his/her food and nutrition is extremely important, and one of the key components of their diet will be breast milk. Breast milk contains all the nutrients required for a 15 months baby food. Not only that it also helps raise the baby’s immunity thereby protecting him/her from most illnesses.
The World Health Organisation recommends to continue breastfeeding till the age of 2, but it also needs to be supplemented with solid foods and formula milk. Although, remember to never substitute formula with breast milk. Mothers of 15-month-olds should try and get at least 3-4 times feeding done. This can get a bit tough especially if you are working, so you can then prepare a pumping schedule to ensure your baby is getting enough breast milk. It is also important to give different textured food to your toddler so that they can learn to use their molars and chew their food. Prepare a food schedule for them which also includes two snacks through the day so that they can start getting used to solid food. If you are trying to wean your baby off breast milk, let them take the lead and decide when they can confidently give up breast milk.
Sleeping
Your baby is developing his/her personality and having little nuances of things that they like and dislike. Your toddler is also teething and maybe a bit restless when it comes to sleeping continuously. Your baby will also love to cuddle and sleep for 3-4 hours at a stretch. Napping in the afternoon will also become a common recurrence, but also make sure you make these naps shorter so that he/she can fall asleep well at night. It is important to create a routine before bed-time and start regularising the same so that your baby can fall asleep at the same time every day. Keep your baby’s sleeping environment as consistent as possible in terms of temperature, placement and toys so that he/she can put their fears at rest and go to sleep peacefully.
Play and Activities
Bonding with your baby is integral to growing up in a healthy fashion. Your baby will also start asking to help out around the house and will try to learn new skills. One of the best way to introduce new activities and learning is by playing games with your 15-month-old. Your baby would have become an expert at pee-a-boo so make it a habit to continue that. You can also teach your kid about word association by teaching them about animal sounds.
Another fun activity to do with your baby would be to play hide and seek. Since toddlers this age love peeks a boo, this will be a hit. While playing with your toddler, tire them out in the afternoons so that they can sleep soundly at night.
Bath time is also a great opportunity for you to play with your kid. Introduce toys and bubble baths and essential oils so that your kid can have fun. You can also plan play dates with your toddler and a friend so that they can learn how to share and play with other kids and develop their social skills further.
Tips for Parents
Silly songs and games should become a part of your bonding routine with your toddler
If you are travelling, make sure you have a separate baby seat for your child where he/she can be strapped in securely
Make sure you have a fully stocked diaper bag handy which includes extra diapers, bottles, toys, tissues and extra underwear
Start creating a stable and regular routine which your toddler can get used to. For example, you can include a bath routine before bedtime
Keep your toddler busy through the day especially during the afternoon with games and toys so that they can tire themselves out and fall asleep easily at night
Keep your paediatrician number handy in case of any emergency
Be patient and start teaching your toddler manners from very young. Be assertive but not to an extent where the child develops a fear
Make sure you and your partner takes time to do all the chores evenly, and you get some ‘me time’ for yourself
Start introducing healthy food options and different kind of fruits and vegetables so that they do not become fussy eaters.
Consult a Doctor If
While you may have taken your kid to the doc for their regular vaccines such as measles and mumps and Hepatitis, it is also important to prepare a chart with regular check-ups in mind for your toddler. If your toddler is doing anything out of the ordinary such as not being able to poop for days or pee for days, then it is time to consult your doc. As parents its also important to watch out for any redness in the eyes, any ear pain which may be making them uncomfortable. Some of the sure signs to watch out for is your baby is uncomfortable and crying and has difficulty falling asleep. Your baby also tries to touch inside his/her ears frequently or in the case of an eye infection tries to rub his/her eyes frequently.
If your baby has fever or cold and cough for more than 48 hours, it is important to call your doctor. If you spot blood either in his/her stools or anywhere else, do consult the doctor. If your child is allergic to something, take him/her immediately to the doctor. Make sure to ask plenty of questions, show his/her medical history and have a regular check-up.
Your toddler has already crossed many milestones till now and 15 months is one of them. Make sure to document this journey in pictures and videos.

Crooked Teeth in Babies - Reasons and How to Deal
A person’s teeth are an important factor in the physical beauty of a person and every parent wants to see their children’s happy bright smiles. Though in most cases crooked teeth happen only when the permanent teeth come in, there are chances that they could happen to your little one as well causing you to worry about if they will also develop crooked permanent teeth. While there are some who do, most others develop perfectly normal teeth in the future.
Why Are Your Baby's Teeth Growing Out Crooked?
If you may be wondering “why is my baby teeth growing crooked” wonder no more. Here we have a few reasons for why your baby may be developing crooked teeth.
1. Wrong Dental Habits
Babies tend to put everything they find into their mouths as this is one of the ways they explore their worlds, unfortunately, this could be a habit that causes your little one to develop crooked teeth. Some other bad dental habits that contribute to your baby developing crooked teeth are pacifiers, thumb sucking and prolonged bottle feeding.
2. Undeveloped Jaw
Your baby’s jaw is still growing and developing, so its small size makes it hard to hold all the teeth without looking overcrowded and slightly crooked.
3. The Role Of Genetics
If you or your partner have crooked teeth, the genes for crooked teeth are likely to pass on to your baby. It is most prominent if your baby inherits a small jaw from mum and large teeth from dad. Those who inherit small teeth will have gaps between their teeth at first, but when more teeth start to grow, the teeth come closer together making the teeth look a bit fuller and straighter than before.
4. Sleeping on The Stomach
Allowing your baby to sleep on his tummy is not a good idea for many reasons, one of which is that it encourages crooked teeth as it puts pressure on their cheeks and mouth. While you may not notice the change immediately, over time the crookedness becomes more evident. So, if you notice that your baby is falling asleep during tummy time, make sure to turn him over onto his back.
5. Tumour Or A Cyst
In the rarest of cases, there may be a tumour or cyst inside your baby’s mouth, leading to protruding front teeth. Consult with your dentist on this matter so that you will be able to get treatment for your baby.
What Must Parents Do If Their Child’s Teeth Are Crooked?
Crooked baby teeth, is this unusual? It is quite common for most children to develop crooked teeth due to their small jaws. Even normal sized teeth may sometimes make the mouth look overcrowded. If you want to do something to help your baby develop better teeth, here are some ways that you can help:
1. Better Oral Habits
It’s time to start developing the habit of brushing teeth as soon as your baby starts to teethe. Ensure that all the cavities get cleaned, and all the food particles get removed. Make it a habit that you check your baby’s teeth if they prefer brushing them by their own.
However, you can start getting them used to the process much earlier if you use some moistened gauze wrapped around your index finger, you can gently clean the inside of their mouths. You can use a Xylitol gel to clean your baby’s mouth.
2. Correct Bad Habits
If you are in the habit of using a pacifier to soothe your baby, it is alright. However, you need to ensure to start weaning your baby off the pacifier by age two to prevent your baby’s teeth from growing crooked. Thumb sucking should be corrected as well and can sometimes be harder to wean your child off than the pacifier.
3. Consult A Professional
It is best to consult a professional in cases like this so that you will be able to find out if there is treatment required or if your baby is experiencing the crooked teeth due to having a small jaw, something that will sort itself out as your child grows.
Can You Prevent Crooked Teeth In Infant?
Crooked teeth can be prevented in kids by developing good habits early in life. Follow the mentioned tips to prevent the chance of developing crooked teeth:
Do not let your little ones suck their thumbs
Take your kids for regular dental check-ups.
Teach your kids to brush gently on the gums.
Why Consult A Dentist?
As the saying goes “prevention is better than cure” so ensure to start taking your child’s dental health seriously from the beginning if you want to prevent them from having any problems with crooked teeth. While you may be contemplating “Is it normal for baby teeth to come in crooked”, your dentist will have all the answers you are looking for, especially since each child develops in a unique way.
Book an appointment with your dentist even if your baby doesn’t have any dental issues. Your dentist will be able to examine your baby’s mouth and jaw and advise you on how best to look after their oral health.
Your dentist will also be able to identify if your child has crooked teeth due to medical reasons such as a cyst or a tumour causes your baby to develop crooked teeth. This will enable you to discuss a plan of action and start treatment in order to heal your child of whatever the problem is.
Remember, most children who have crooked teeth develop a beautiful set of teeth in the future so ensure to keep up with their dental appointments so that you have expert advice on your child’s oral health and development. Rather than waiting for things go sour, develop good dental hygiene habits in your children from an early age. This will prevent many problems in the future and will prevent the need for braces later in life.

How to Handle Your In-Laws to Make Your Own-Laws
Every woman has a lot of emotions after childbirth. But when it comes to in-laws, she is confused about whether to follow every advice ( which they expect) given by them. As generations change, every mother feels to give her child the best of facilities of that time. Whether to follow all the suggestions coming from all around especially in-laws or concentrate on advice from your age mothers is a choice to be made. So here are my tips on how to deal with in-laws so that you make your laws.
1. Suno Sabki, Karo Apne DIl Ki
God has given mother's some extra sense other than five senses. So be it anyone in the world, always follow your heart when it comes to making decisions for your child.
2. Give Examples of Other Mothers
It's always better to have some examples ready when you want others to listen to your deal.
3. Doctors Magic
If in-laws are stubborn on some practice which you feel is bad for your child, always let the doctor come and explain the repercussions of that practice. The doctor always does magic in such situations.
4. Patience is the Key
Sometimes it's better to let others observe by themselves as to consequences of not listening to mother. The child will automatically prove you right.
5. Knowledge is the Solution
To have confidence in your upbringing of the child, you ought to have some knowledge about motherhood and childcare. This will only happen if you read articles of other mothers and communicate with them.
6. Politeness as a Weapon
When everything fails, one has to be wise enough to be polite and influence others to make the best choices for your child. Remember your child is entirely dependent on you, so it's your duty to protect your child.
