Tips to Help Your Little One Take His First Steps
That feeling when your little one comes waddling towards you with that sweet smile and with a feeling of pride cannot be explained in words. Walking is one of the biggest milestones, and it gives your baby a feeling of independence. Every mom wants her baby to walk before he turns one. Here are a few tips that might help you encourage your little one to take his first few steps.
1. Ready or not
First, we need to be sure if your baby is ready for it. Are his leg muscles strong enough? Is the babysitting on his own? Is he able to stand holding on to furniture around the house? All these will strengthen his muscles and make him ready for that first step.
2. Encourage him
Try out different activities to build confidence. These are a few activities to help him overcome his fear. Arrange chairs in a queue, one beside the other, and use one of his favourite toys to help him walk, holding onto the chair. Watch him smile once he is able to grab the toy. Slowly increase the gap between the chair and let him cover the gap.
3. Place things at the appropriate height
Keeping stuff your baby likes to get a hold off at appropriate height to help him challenge himself to stand and grab it. This develops his muscle strength.
4. Say 'good job'
When your little one is trying to take that first step, always show your excitement and happiness by clapping and boosting him by saying 'GOOD JOB baby.' Though it's too early for him to understand your language, your expressions are enough for him to understand that he is doing the right thing.
5. Use a soft mat
Laying a soft mat around the room might help your baby overcome any fear of getting hurt.
All the best, moms and dads. This is an important milestone, both for the parents and the little one. Enjoy every moment!

Toys for a 1-month-old Baby
Though it may seem like all your baby likes to do is drink milk, sleep, poop, pee and repeat, he is actually observing his surroundings and learning more about the world around him.
Keeping their developing senses stimulated helps babies develop better skills, so it is important to give them that opportunity. It is quite important for your baby to have the right materials and experiences at the right age in order to gain the most development during playtime. Here are some baby toys for 1-month-olds that you can consider:
Hand-held Toys
While he may not be able to hold the toy himself, having you hold it close to him gives him the chance to observe it.
How do they help?
Your baby is nearsighted right now and cannot really see things that are far away. He can only see things that are maybe 12 to 15 inches away from his face. Not only that, he won’t be able to do much and will appreciate something interesting to look at, especially if what he's looking at has a face.
Recommended Toys
Rattles
Stuffed toys
Dolls with different textures and embroidered faces
Musical Toys
Using musical toys is one of the best ways to soothe your infant, as babies love music. It is very helpful for calming your baby down whenever needed.
How do they help?
Music is something that is soothing for both adults and children as it can be very therapeutic. Not only does your baby enjoy a bit of good music, but it helps him relax as well. You can also play soft music on your phone or on the radio and see how he enjoys it!
Recommended Toys
Baby Mobiles
Wind chimes
Soothers
Also known as pacifiers, soothers are common toys that babies can use to help calm themselves down or just to keep themselves busy, as some babies have strong sucking tendencies.
How do they help?
Soothers are great for babies who are teething, and for those who depend on nursing for comfort a bit too much. They are far better than allowing your baby to suck on an empty bottle, and some mothers say the habit is easier to break than if your child develops the habit of sucking on his thumb.
Recommended Toys
Bracelet binkies
Orthodontic or flat pacifiers
Cherry Pacifier or soother
Soother toy clips
Infant Play Gym
These are often padded quilted mats with an arc fitted with fun attachments and toys for your baby to observe and play with.
How do they help?
Your baby may accidentally stumble upon an action that he may want to repeat, such as batting at a toy and seeing the result, teaching him the very basics of cause and effect. He also gains visual benefits from these toys as they are quite colourful. Your baby can have safe 'tummy time' on these play gym mats under your watchful eye as he grows older.
Recommended Toys
Basic playmat
Play gym with overhead arches and hanging toys
Play gym with lights and music
Portable Toys
Portable toys are great as you can carry them around with you much more easily; so if you have to go somewhere with your baby, you have something to keep him engaged.
How do they help?
They are great for stimulating your baby's various senses, whether visual, auditory, tactile and so on.
Recommended Toys
Rattle-teether toys
Squeaky toys
Stuffed animals
Sensory Toys
Toys that react when your baby touches them will help them develop their senses as they will begin to understand that an action of theirs resulting in something happening.
How do they help?
Some toys light up in bright colours and some play music; others simply move around when your baby touches it. Still others give your baby a chance to explore different textures, giving your child the opportunity to understand that his own hand can be responsible for making something happen.
Recommended Toys
Baby rattle bracelets
Squeaky toys
Toys with different textures
Balls
What Do Age Recommendation Labels on Toys Mean?
The age recommendations are there to help parents, and others buying gifts for babies, pick the right gift for the baby’s age. These are based on the following guidelines:
Safety
Development of the child
How children of the age group have been observed to play with toys
What parents have to say regarding the age-appropriateness of the toys
Safety Tips for Babies
Toys that are given to babies must be safe for their age to avoid any accidents such as choking or injuries. Here are things to keep in mind with regards to their safety:
Follow the age recommendations on the packaging as some toys will have small parts that can easily choke your infant.
Avoid small toys in general.
Make sure the toys are not easily breakable.
Avoid toys with strings or long parts that your baby can accidentally swallow.
How to Choose the Best Toys for Your One-month-old Baby?
Shopping for toys for your baby can sometimes be a bit difficult as there are a lot of things to keep in mind. You need to consider the following while shopping for toys for your little one:
Stuffed toys should be washable.
Any toys with paint should have lead-free paint.
Toys that are made from cloth or fabrics should be flame resistant.
Toys should not be too loud and damage a child’s hearing.
Toys should be in bright colours to stimulate their senses.
There are umpteen things that can be done by you to help with your baby’s physical and mental development, so do not lose out on the opportunity for some early learning. Remember that at this age, babies do not yet understand the concept of gender, nor are they able to play very complicated games. This makes worrying about specific toys for 1-month-old baby boys or toys for 1-month-old baby girls unnecessary as both boys and girls will need toys with the same functions. Just make sure that you engage in play with them so that they will learn how to play and interact!

10 Reasons Amarendra Bahubali Is a DREAM Husband Even For a 21st Century Woman!
On April 28, 2017, people rushed to the theatres to find out why Kattappa killed Bahubali after all. But we are sure more women than ever before walked out of the theatre and completely forgot about everything else... except how awesome Amarendra Bahubali is. That smile. Those eyes. That body! But there are more than those very obvious reasons why Amarendra Bahubali is the perfect husband, even for the modern Indian woman.
10 Reasons We Need More 'Amarendra Bahubalis’ in The 21st Century Than Ever Before
1. Amarendra Bahubali is chivalrous and romantic.
Amarendra Bahubali could have very easily told Devasena who he was and (as quite aptly put by Kattappa), the King and Queen of Kuntala kingdom would have 'washed his feet and married their daughter off to him. But he chose to win the princess over through his actions and deeds. His conduct was respectful, a tad bit naughty, and absolutely romantic and chivalrous.
However, in being so, he did not at any point snub Devasena away. He didn't 'protect' her, he joined her in the battle against the Pindaris. That's what the new-age 21st century woman wants, isn't it? A man who will respect and join her in her endeavours, without making her feel weak or ill-equipped to achieve whatever she wants to.
2. Amarendra Bahubali is principled.
Amarendra Bahubali, when the time came, did not flinch while going against his mother, the great Rajmata Sivagami. Amarendra was convinced that his mother had made a mistake in promising Bhallaldeva that he would be married to Devasena, and he did not falter in pointing it out to her. Not only that, he did so respectfully, and while maintaining the decorum of the relationship.
His principles cost him his mother, his kingship, his family... and yet he didn't bat an eyelash in standing by what was right. God knows we need more men like Amarendra Bahubali – who have the courage to stand by what's right, and who are not such “Mumma's boy”s.
3. Amarendra Bahubali is hot.
Let’s be honest! We all secretly drooled at him, didn't we? There is something very earthy about his sexiness.
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Source: GIPHY[/caption]
When he fought valiantly in the war against the Kalakeyas, when he pulled the bow and shot the arrow right into the demon effigy, when he came to Devasena's aid during the Pindari-attack and taught her how to shoot three arrows in one go, when he held the boat and placed his arm out for Devasena to walk over his shoulder and into the boat... we saw... and we lost our hearts.
Who wouldn't want to get with that man?!
4. Amarendra Bahubali is virtuous.
Amerandra is an exemplary example of the best of a man: brave, honest, humble, and a true ruler. He cared about his people beyond the role of a king. He fought with honour, without compromising the lives of civilians. In spite of being declared the would-be-king, he did not throw around attitude. He always treated Bhallaldeva with respect. His doting love for his mother must have pulled at every woman's heartstrings.
Not only that, he did not ridicule Kumar Verma for not being able to 'be a man', nor did he use this fact to his advantage to win over Devasena. Instead, he empowered Kumar Verma, and befriended him. He knew the right things to say to his people during the war to give them the strength and courage to face the adversity that lay in front of them. And as his father Bijjaladeva points out – Bahubali kapat nahi jaanta (Bahubali has no concept of deceit).
Who wouldn't want such a strong and virtuous man as her life-partner?
5. Amarendra Bahubali knows how to keep a promise.
When he swore to Devasena 'I am yours', he did so with conviction. And he kept his word. Even when it meant losing everything and everyone that were dear to him. He also stood by his word of coming to the aid of the kingdom, should such an occasion or need arise. Even when he was banished from the family, he did not let that affect his loyalty to his people and his kingdom.
However, what's more important is – he knew which promises to break too. While he had promised his mother his unflinching and unconditional love, it didn't blind him to her faults or prevent him from doing the right thing.
6. Amarendra Bahubali is not insecure.
Not only did he befriend Kumar Verma, the guy who had a massive crush on the love of his life and wanted to marry her, he also gave him a place in his heart, his life, and his family. He did not once ever doubt Devasena over her integrity. He did not even once try and create a rift or distance between Devasena and Kumar Verma.
In fact, Amarendra had such unflinching trust and faith in Devasena, that he never doubted her about anything. He did not expect obeisance from her – neither towards himself nor his mother. He gave her room to be her unapologetic self, and did not even once try to 'mold' her into a submissive wife. He knows he loves her, and he knows she loves him. He did not let anything ever make him feel insecure – neither Devasena's archery skills, nor her confidence, nor the guys who were crushing on her hard!
7. Amarendra Bahubali respects women.
When he requested Devasena to return to Mahishmati with him as his captive and she refused, he did not try to convince her to do it. No ma'am! Amarendra honoured her feelings, and instead promised to guard her honour and dignity till death do them part.
Not only that, Amarendra also has tremendous respect for his wife's family. Remember what he said when Devasena's brother and his wife bowed to Amarendra out of respect and reverence? “Sambandhi ek dusre ke gale lagte hai, unke aage jhukte nahi hai Maharaj.” (Relatives embrace one another, they do not bow in front of each other, Sir.) What more could a girl want?
8. Amarendra Bahubali does not let any man disrespect his woman.
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="480"] Source: GIPHY[/caption]
Remember what Amarendra said when he stood up by Devasena's side in the middle of the court, in the presence of his elder brother the King, and his mother Rajmata Sivagami?
“Devasena ko kisi ne haath lagaya to samjho, Bahubali ki talvaar ko haath lagaya.” (Anyone who touches Devasena must know he is incurring the wrath of Bahubali's sword.)
“Aurat par haath daalne vale ki ungliyan nahi kaat-tey, kaat-tey hai uska gala!” (You do not chop off the fingers of a man who molests women, you behead him!)
Of course every 21st century woman needs a man like Amarendra Bahubali.
9. Amarendra Bahubali understands 'consent'.
This is a very important point.
Remember the song love song when Devasena, Amarendra Bahubali, Kattappa, all board that insanely beautiful ship and set sail for Mahishmati? Amarendra knows he's won Devasena over. Devasena is more than willing to consummate their marriage.
And yet – Amarendra Bahubali, being the true blue gentleman that he is, waits for Devasena to make the first move.
Yes, ladies.
Consent is important, even in a marriage. And Amarendra Bahubali understands this. This single quality in itself certifies him as the most eligible husband of the 21st century.
10. Amarendra Bahubali is perfect.
Isn't he?
We strongly recommend this movie to be used as training material to induct every man into the role of a 'husband'. What do you think?

A positive cesarean: even a difficulty could be a blessing
'The baby is oblique!' exclaimed my gynaecologist during my 32 week scan. It was my first pregnancy and I couldn't comprehend anything. My doctor explained that my baby is in breech position and I have to undergo a cesarean if the baby doesn't turn to head down position by 38 weeks. She also hinted that the chances for the breech baby to turn are very less.
Cesarean? The term had been a nightmare since my childhood. My mum underwent 2 cesareans and as a consequence 5 hernia surgeries. I’ve seen her undergo a lot of pain during each surgery and it took a long recovery time. Moreover, I had witnessed my friends and relatives grumble over their never-ending back pain caused by the spinal anesthesia injected during a cesarean. All these thoughts stressed me and I was clueless of what next.
My mum and relatives were equally bothered. They poured in a lot of suggestions to naturally turn the breech baby to head down position. Right from crawling on the ground and trying yoga poses, to exposing my baby bump to different temperatures, light variations, music beats, we turned all the stones to make it happen. But God had other plans!
At 38 weeks, the situation was still the same. I was advised am emergency c-section due to low fluid levels. I was unhappy with what was happening to me.
I unwinded myself at the end of the day to accept the situation and find peace. As I sat down with my eyes closed, a scene which happened early that day flashed in my brain. That morning when I went for the final scan, I met a married women of my age. She was trying to help me grab my slippers post my scan. As we had a casual talk, I came to know that she had huge masses in her ovary and she have to undergo a surgery to remove them.
As I was recollecting those moments, an unknown distress struck me. A woman of my age, with a lot of dreams for having a baby, must undergo a huge procedure to set things right. It immediately dawned on me that my problem is just like a drop in the ocean. There are many women facing huge complications in conceiving a baby and are fighting bravely to experience the bliss of childbearing. That’s when I realised that I shouldn't be complaining of cesarean, instead be thankful for my motherhood. I then braced myself happily to welcome my little charm via cesarean. Read more

Encouraging your Child to Become a Nature Lover
Nature nourishes the body and nurtures the soul. It’s in the folds of nature, a child should learn his first lessons. Yet in these days of play stations and increasing screen time, children are losing touch with the bounties of nature. We share some tips about making your child a nature-loving individual.
Are you worried that your child is spending too much time indoors- surfing channels and playing video games? Would you love to see him go outdoors instead and spend some time soaking in the sunshine or chasing butterflies? Would you like him to know the names of various little birds that fly across the sky? Do you often wistfully dream of pointing to him the stars, moon and the various clouds? Do you wish to see his face light up with joy as he catches a rainbow after the first rains? Most of the children have not witnessed a just born calf prancing joyfully in the green fields; nor are they familiar with the melodious song of the nightingale.
Hence hold your child’s hand today and bond with him under open, inviting skies. As your child embraces nature and begins to witness its many miracles, you would find him turn into a more compassionate, kinder and sensitive individual.
Ways to Encourage Your Child
Here are some ways in which you make your child embrace nature and its glorious ways:
1. Let Your Child Witness The Changes in Nature
Go on a hiking trip with your child to a farm or a sanctuary every season and let him witness how the colors of leaves and branches change with spring, autumn, winter and summer. Put up the pictures in his room or on the refrigerator. Encourage him to make seasonal greeting cards with those pictures to send it across to his friends.
2. Witness The Miracle of Birth
Your child still faithfully carries around the belief that storks deliver babies. How about dispelling this myth a little bit and make him aware of birds and bees? Call your local farmer to know if there are any pregnant cows or goats around. Take your child to the farm and show him the “Mommy” goat. Tell him there’s baby waiting to come out. Take him again after the birth and show him a little kid. This will increase his awareness of biological rhythms and fill his mind with questions.
3. Plant Trees
Bring a young sapling for your child and let him plant it. Let the tree be his pride. Show him how over a period of time, the tree starts developing slender branches, blossoms and fruits.
4. Camping and Star Gazing
A back yard is all that is needed for camping and a spot of star gazing! No expensive trips and elaborate planning is required to take your child into the lap of nature. Camp a night in your backyard and your little one will know how it becomes cold during nights and what it is to be woken by birds. Show him the dew on leaves and the paw prints of chipmunk.
5. Cloud Watching and Weather Foretelling
Nothing is more calming than lying down on the soft grass on a clear day and watch the clouds pass by. You and your child might have loads of fun deciphering various shapes of clouds or you can teach him about high clouds, low clouds, and rain clouds. Before long your child would be able to predict weather just looking at the clouds.
Being a nature-lover is not only invigorating for a soul, but it’s also the need of time today when the living-beings are confronted with the threats of global warming and natural calamities. It’s high time to extend some gratification to the mother nature, if we want our future generations to survive. Read more
