21 Best Role Play Ideas for Kids
In the initial phase of education, every child needs engaging and fun ways to learn. Preschoolers pick up many of the basic, but important life lessons during this phase of their life. Kids love to mimic adults, and in the process, they learn about life. Role-playing activities help them do just that. This article lists down 21 of the best role-play activities for preschoolers that can help gain an understanding of life and the World.
21 Creative Role Play Activities for Your Child
Role-playing games for kids is a fun and interesting way for the kids to learn and to strengthen their imagination. Here are some ideas of such games for your kids.
1. Bakery
Kids can create their own bake-house and bake goodies and sell them to other kids who would be their customers. You can make goodies like cookies and cakes using cardboard paper cutouts and crayons and double baking oven using bookshelves. You can also buy ready-made baking playsets for the same.
2. Fairy Tale Plays
Fairy tales are a great way to spark the imagination of children. Kids can easily relate to fairy tales, and enacting the same by making sets out of coloured cardboard paper can help them memorize the stories as well as inculcate the morals imparted by them. Renditions of ‘Three Little Pigs’ or ‘Goldilocks’ are excellent dramatic play ideas for kids to learn and memorize the story as well.
3. Flower Shop
Recreating a flower shop during spring is an excellent role-play idea for kids. The kids will learn about different flowers, the seasons they usually bloom in, and their alternative names too. Take this activity a little further by asking them to make flower cutouts and arrange them in beautiful bouquets with attractive ribbons. This role-play could also strengthen their math skills when they count flowers, and sell the bouquets to their customers.
4. Pizza Parlour
Kids love to eat pizzas! This role-play will help them understand how pizzas are made and delivered to their customers. They can make pizzas slices, ovens and the delivery boxes out of cardboard and coloured chart paper, and pretend to have ridden several kilometres to deliver the pizza on time. Children will be interacting a lot with each other for this activity. They will also learn how eateries and pizza parlours operate.
5. Soda Vending Machine
For this role-play, a soda vending machine can be made with a cardboard box cutout, styrofoam cups and some coloured tissue paper. This can be a great addition to various dramatic role-playing scenarios such as restaurants, pizza parlours, hospitals and so on.
6. Baby Care
Kids often imitate parents taking care of babies and they also care for their toy babies like they are real ones. They are very imaginative and can play with a stuffed toy or a doll, dress them, feed them, take them to school, etc. for hours altogether. This role-playing game doesn't require a lot; just a doll or a toy and some imagination can help them build a perfect world for themselves. However, nowadays there are kits available in the market that come with dolls resembling babies and accessories that kids can play with. This is one of the most effective role-playing scenarios for kids for it teaches them how to care and protect.
7. Ice Cream Counter
Kids can make their own ice cream parlour with different flavours of ice cream by just using felt or playdoh (clay), some empty transparent plastic boxes, an ice cream scoop and a few cones painted out of paper. This helps children enjoy and understand different colours while pretending to eat one of their favourite snacks in the world. If they are old enough to operate their pretend ice-cream counter, they can even have their family and friends visit as customers and get some experience of selling ice cream and keeping accounts.
8. Castles
This one is the most famous role-playing game for kids. They can make their own castles out of bed linen, a few cushions and some sticks. This lets them enjoy the medieval times of being royals in their castles. Each kid can take turn ruling the kingdom, while others are either his courtesans or the people living in the kingdom. Take this a step further by telling them a historical story and allocating roles to enact in the make-belief castle. Sometimes, this game can also be used to teach kids to strategise, a life skill they will need when they grow up.
9. Tea Party
Kids can play with ready-made teacup sets and recreate a scene of high tea or a tea party with their parents, siblings, friends and even their toys. Encourage them to bring all their new friends home for a tea part. This way they will learn to communicate and make new friends. Sometimes, this game can also work as a stressbuster and encourage your child to share their feelings over a cup of their tea.
10. Dinosaur Excavation Site
This activity will bring out the palaeontologists in the kids. You can create this pretend play idea with just a large rectangular tub, some sand to fill it and some plaster of Paris bone replicas which can be buried in the sandbox. Dress them in cargo pants, cotton shirts and large hats to keep them safe from the harsh sun out there when they pretend to excavate the bones. Also give them some brushes to remove sand, dig out the dinosaur bones and have their share of fun and education together. This is one of the most fun role-play ideas for kids.
11. Grocery Store
Kids love pretending to do what adults do while shopping and this role-playing game will help them get some experience shopping for grocery. You can make a pretend grocery store by making products out of empty cereal boxes, aisles out of empty bookshelves and make carts out of cardboard paper and tricycles. This is a highly fun and interesting way of keeping kids occupied in pre-school.
12. Hospital
Kids absolutely love emulating doctors by wearing stethoscopes, prescribing medicines and treating other kids. Hence, this role-playing scenario is a must-try for preschoolers. This game also teaches them to care and nurture, inculcating a sense of compassion in them. They can take turns playing doctors, nurses and patients and even think of what ailments they will cure. Sometimes they come with incredible ideas to progress the game.
13. Band
This is another favourite among kids wherein they pretend to have a band, make instruments out of used cardboard paper or use their toy instruments or be creative with other toys. Let them go all out by allowing them to sing their favourite songs as they play the instruments. You can also become their manager and take them on a tour, which will consist of live performances at his friends' place; with permission from their parents of course. This level of serious fun will push them to learn the songs and set up performances along with having loads of fun.
14. Construction Engineer
Most kids are fascinated by construction sites. The sheer size of the buildings and the cranes can amaze them. And, when it comes to role-playing this game, they get a chance to pretend to be construction engineers and build towers out of building blocks and Lego bricks. This activity helps the kids to have fun as well as understand spatial orientation and sequence in the process. Hence, this activity is an assured hit with the kids.
15. Sailors
This is a fun activity for kids as they are inspired by lovable cartoons like Popeye. The ship and the mast can be recreated with a few empty suitcases, some boards, some sticks and used bed linen. Kids can also use paper tubes for telescopes and create sailor hats, flags and maps out of paper which can be coloured accordingly. One can also make fishes out of coloured paper and use a stick and some threads to make fishing rods. The kids can learn colour recognition as well as how to use a compass with this interesting activity.
16. Camping
Children can recreate a camping scene by making a tent with used bed linen and a stick and stay inside it. They can also share stories with each other to make the experience even closer to actual camping and have lots of fun in the process. If you want to add some thrill to the game, you could become an animal coming to hunt in the night and the kids and keep themselves safe by hunting down the beast instead.
17. Police or Detective
Kids can put their Sherlock hats on for this activity where they can be asked to investigate for a missing object with the help of clues. This can help in fueling the inquisitive minds of children by boosting problem-solving skills while keeping them engaged in the activity.
18. Veterinarian
Kids can act as veterinarians with a doctor’s play set and trying to treat stuffed, toy animals in this activity. Kids could actually learn to have compassion towards animals with this activity.
19. Airplane
Children love to recreate this scene as they imagine themselves to be pilots and passengers flying in the sky by pulling chairs together in two rows and recreating the scenes that they regularly encounter on flights. Kids could also learn about new places and how far it is as they pretend to fly from one destination to another.
20. Bank
Kids can create currency notes out of paper and recreate the scenario of a bank where they can give and take the money and learn how to deal with money as well as counting and addition. For older kids, you can also have them borrow money and return it with interest. The kids also inculcate collaboration and cooperation and learn to work with other kids through this fun activity.
21. The Explorer
The explorer is for those who want to instil curiosity and a will to learn about and see new places in the world. This game is recommended for older kids who can read and write. The kids can learn how to read maps, research about them, and then pretend to cover distances via the various mode of transport. This activity could also help your children understand the preparations required for travelling and the various places they can explore when they grow up.
These fun activities can foster the imagination and creativity of kids and also inculcate core lessons for life and help them excel into bright young students in school. They can definitely be tried out to make learning highly engaging and interesting.

Homeschooling in India - Pros and Cons
Homeschool options are considered by parents for reasons such as discontent with the schooling systems, the rising crimes in the schools, the ever-rising fee structures of schools, the belief that their kids are not gaining much from traditional schooling system and it could also be due to various religious superstitions of parents.
What is Homeschooling?
Parents nowadays are more educated than before. They hold the capability to teach their kids the values and lessons taught at school. With this, the idea of educating children at home has also gained momentum. And, this is what homeschooling is all about, teaching kids at home rather than sending them to any education providers.
The advent of homeschooling education has its roots back in time as prior to the introduction of the education laws, parents used to educate their children at home itself. It must be noted here is that home teaching is legal in some countries only, and not all nations officially permit this type of education.
Is Homeschool Learning in India Legal?
In India, there is certainly no awareness regarding homeschooling. The government of India has an RTI Act in place that states that compulsory education to every kid between the ages of 7-14 should be provided. However, the government has failed to clarify on any fact regarding homeschooling. This, in turn, has forced some parents to ask for clarifications or even file petitions to get their stance cleared regarding homeschooling.
The government of India has been quite divergent on homeschooling option as they have not taken action against parents who don’t prefer sending their wards to school and also they have stated in the past that parents who are dissatisfied with the schooling system can choose to homeschool as a teaching option.
According to RTI Act, 2009, every kid should be attending school, but if for any valid reason, parents choose not to, the government is not going to interfere. The only idea behind all this is schooling children, whether at home or at school. And, as far as education need of kids is getting fulfilled, there is no issue with homeschooling as well.
But the dilemma lies in the fact that government has in the past and is changing stances on homeschooling. They legally do not allow homeschooling, and on the other hand, if someone wishes to put his or her children through home teaching, the government would not interfere or act against them.
The whole picture is quite confusing putting homeschooling in India in a contradictory spectrum.
Advantages of Homeschooling
The following are the benefits of homeschooling:
The parents have control over what their children learn
Helps build good relationships and bond with the children
Provides flexibility over teaching timings
Provides an opportunity to make learning exciting through your innovative learning ideas
Helps provide necessary attention to your kids
Provides an opportunity that aids in practical learning experiences
Protects your wards from the negativity of the society
Provides an opportunity to pass on your values and beliefs to your children
An opportunity to provide attention to subjects where your kid lacks attention
Helps in conveying your self-earned tricks and shortcuts for easy and fast learning
Helps in teaching your kids in a better and an effective manner by developing a one-to-one relationship with them
An opportunity for your kids to learn great lessons from your life experiences
Helps make your kids believe that education can be exciting and fun
Helps in making parents aware of their children’s hidden talents
It also helps initiate discussion between parents and kids where the parents can also learn from children
Disadvantages of Homeschooling
The following are the drawbacks of homeschooling:
Face the wrath of people who do not support homeschooling
It can lead to frustrations in kids as they can’t enjoy school and make new friends
This can sometimes make kids go into depression as they have no or minimal interactions outside their home
There will be days when you will not be able to give entire attention to kids. At that time they may lag behind in studies
You will be in constant worry about your kid’s education and not be able to relax much even after coming from long hours of work
Large costs are involved in homeschooling as the study material, and other resources need to be bought, and parents have to bear all of it on their shoulders
Sometimes parents may lack patience when teaching kids. This, in turn, may lead to your kids getting distant from you
No overall knowledge of all the subjects as parents may not be good at teaching each and everything
No further opportunities as colleges ask for schooling certificates when seeking admissions
Irregular learning as parents may have their personal commitments that may prevent them from daily teaching sessions
These were some interesting facts regarding homeschooling. Though homeschooling is a good and a viable option one should read through the advantages and disadvantages of the same before taking any life decision for their kids because their future and success lie in your hands.

The Three Stages of a Mother-Daughter Relationship
A mother becomes a mother when she conceives. Her journey of motherhood starts from there itself. She doesn't know whom she is going to give birth to; a little beautiful princess or "maa ka ladla", a mumma's boy. I read a line somewhere "lucky are those mothers whose first child is a daughter". I am one of them. I gave birth to my little princess 20 days ago and welcomed goddess Laxmi into my life.
Initial Stage
According to me, the initial stage of raising a child begins when you give birth to your child until the child becomes eleven or twelve years old. In this period, parents treat both, the baby girl and the baby boy in the same manner to raise them. Their food, school, games, toys are decided. But yes, a girl parents need to be extra careful and protective while raising them because of today's environment and surrounding. In this stage, as per my experience, a mother grooms her daughter and lives her childhood all over again while taking care of her daughter.
Responsibility
A child is our first priority, and with this, a time comes when a mother has to be responsible for teaching them about periods, menstruation cycle, and reproduction (sex education). A mother wants her daughter to be perfect. It is easier said than done. I know this because I have seen my mother struggle when she was guiding me and my younger sister. It is a big responsibility, and I can say this now because I already started thinking about how I will treat my daughter at that time.
Daughters - Friends For Life
When I saw my daughter for the 1st time, the thought that came in my mind was "yes! I got a companion, a friend for life!". I have said this before that a mother grooms her daughter in the initial stage, but in this stage, both Mother-Daughter groom and take care of each other. They share everything and can talk about anything. There are no limitations. I remember a shop owner admiring the bond my mother and I have. That's a sign of a successful relationship, and I hope to achieve the same bond with my daughter.

How Many Calories are Burned in Breastfeeding
Breast milk is your baby’s only source of nutrition until they are six months of age. And when a newbie-mommy breastfeeds her baby, her body needs more nutrition and energy to produce the breast milk and provide for her baby’s nutritional requirements. However, are you aware that how many calories you may be losing if you are breastfeeding? Find out how many calories are burned during breastfeeding and more.
How Many Calories are Burned by Breastfeeding?
If you are feeling drained out after a breastfeeding session, it is because without even moving much of your limbs your body has lost a substantial amount of calories and that is all because of breastfeeding. The average calories burned from breastfeeding in a day may range from 300 to 700 calories. As soon after the birth of your baby, you may be roughly burning some 300 calories in a day because of your baby’s limited milk demands but as your baby grows the milk supply increases and thus you may burn up to 700 calories in a day. In other words, the amounts of calories that you may burn may depend on your nursing stage. The milk your body produces is directly proportional to your baby’s demands. Your body may burn calories to produce milk, and if your baby is a big feeder, then you may burn more calories in comparison to a mother whose same age baby does not breastfeed that much.
Why does Breastfeeding Burn Calories?
Breastfeeding is great for you to get rid of all the extra pregnancy weight. If you think that it is breastfeeding makes you lose weight, then you are highly mistaken because it is the strenuous process of milk production that requires so much work. Many women may wonder how something that does not involve any physical strain makes them lose so much weight. It is because in order to make an ounce of milk your body burn approximately 20 calories and if you are feeding roughly 20 to 30 ounces of milk in a day to your baby then you may easily let go off 400 to 600 calories, which is quite a substantial amount of calories. Therefore, to compensate for the lost calories, a breastfeeding mother is required to consume extra calories.
Mothers not only burn calories from breastfeeding but they also derive many health benefits from it too. It is seen that mothers who practise breastfeeding for more than six months are at a lesser risk of having breast cancer later in their life. Also, the mothers who suffer from gestational diabetes are less likely to have type 2 diabetes later in life if they practise breastfeeding soon after birth.
How Many Extra Calories Should a Breastfeeding Mom Consume?
A breastfeeding mother requires a whole lot of calories because she is producing milk for her baby and that drains her body to a great extent. So, the question here is how many calories per day does a breastfeeding mother require? We have learnt from the above section that on an average a breastfeeding mom burns some 300 to 700 calories in a day through breastfeeding. This means in order to pep her body’s lost calories she needs to consume extra calories. A regular woman, who is neither breastfeeding nor pregnant consumes roughly 1800 to 2000 calories in a day, though this may vary according to her age, height and how active she is. However, as soon as a woman becomes pregnant, the doctor may advise her to include approximately 300 more calories in her diet in a day, and this may further increase to 500 calories a day when she begins breastfeeding her baby. Therefore, when you start breastfeeding, you should consume approximately 2200 to 3000 calories in a day. When you are nursing a newborn baby 8 to 10 times a day your body needs more calories, and then you may gradually decrease your calorie intake as your baby grows and when he may start taking solid foods or formula milk.
Will Breastfeeding Help You Lose Weight?
When you breastfeed your baby, your baby is not only protected against respiratory problems, allergies, cavities etc. but it also helps your baby build a better immunity against various fatal illnesses. Breastfeeding offers immense health benefits for the mother too, as it not only reduces postpartum depression but also reduces the risk of diabetes, breast cancer, cardiovascular diseases and some cancers too.
Apart from all this, breastfeeding a baby is a nature’s way of getting the mother to lose all that extra pregnancy bulk and get back into shape too, but there is not enough scientific evidence that state the same. In one of the studies conducted on breastfeeding moms, it was observed that mothers to exclusively breastfed and those who breastfed partially lost considerable amounts of post-pregnancy weight in comparison to mothers who fed formula milk to their babies. Also, only relying on breastfeeding and not controlling what you eat and not doing enough exercise may affect your health adversely. Thus to lose all that extra pregnancy pounds, you not only have to eat a healthy diet, but you also need to exercise your way through the healthy weight loss. On the other hand, if you have seen an upward trend in your weight that is you may be gaining weight in spite of breastfeeding, this may indicate that you need to lower your calorie intake.
Healthy Diet Required during Breastfeeding
A breastfeeding mother is required to make healthy choices when it comes to adding calories to her diet. Hogging on unhealthy foods and snacks is not only bad for your health, but your baby may not get enough nutrition for his optimal growth and development too. You should eat a 300 to 400 calorie snack every few hours to replenish your body’s energy resource. A cup of unsweetened yoghurt, a glass of milk, a fruit or a handful of nuts is a great snacking option in between the meals. Also, keep yourself adequately hydrated because breast milk is mostly water. If you do not consume ample amounts of water not only will it hamper your milk supply but it will also make you dehydrated. Keep drinking water and other fluids at regular intervals. Keep a tab on the colour of your urine, in case it turns a darker shade of yellow, you may be suffering from dehydration. Also, your doctor may recommend you some multi-vitamin tablets to compensate for your added nutritional requirements.
Breastfeeding requires you to consume more calories than you may have been consuming in pregnancy and before that. Get in touch with your doctor to know more on your ideal calorie intake while breastfeeding.

Contribution – Am I a bad momma who can not take care of her kids ??
So my topic itself tells the whole story. I am mother of 2 daughters (3.7 years old and 2 months old) and I am also a working mother though at present on maternity leave.
What went wrong with me is my elder daughter, I love her the most and now at this age people say that I spoiled her as she has some bad habits like drinking milk from bottle, nt eating frouts and veggies. Since starting she is with domestic help and they haven’t taken proper care of her also in between my in-laws and my parents have also taken care of her but all in vague. As when some good things will happen they will take the credit that it’s cz of them and all these habits which is bad is cz of me, for her every single thing which is bad I am the one who is to be blamed. As a guilt stricken mother who doesn’t give her more time so I use to pamper her a lot, I agree that I hv spoilt her but in the whole process I am alone even my husband also do not support me.
This all resulted in my baby not taking medicine, not stopping bottle feed as she is 3.7 years old, not eating proper meals, not trying anything new food. I am literally pissed of all the allegations made by them. Tumhi bigadi ho ! Sometimes out of anger I also hit her to uspe bhi I have to listen that ab kyun maar rahi ho bla bla bla.
I want to ask all the mommies out there is the child everything is only responsibility of a mom and does that tag her to be a bad momma. Is working a crime ? I agree that there are some bad habits in my child but she is a well behaved child, she is not underweight also, her overall development is completely fine.
Sometimes her acts also worries me but then I think she will not alws be a child and I keep trying each and every possible way to make her do things which is important.
So does this makes me a bad momma ?

We Need to Give Some Space to Our Kids
It was a beautiful winter morning. Our daughter was 18 months old then. After having our breakfast, my husband suggested to go to the nearby park with our daughter. I agreed and got her ready. She wore a beautiful pink cardigan, that was her dad's favourite. And we went to the park. As soon as we reached there, my daughter just slipped out my arms and started running on the grass..we could see the joy on her face. She was running here and there..shouting, playing with her ball, laughing...we just sat on a bench and saw her enjoy. And then she saw a muddy area and ran towards it, till the time my husband would have caught her..she was already in there..making a splash!! Gosh..that was a scene to see.. My husband shouted " Baby..come out of that, that is not hygienic...your dress shall get ruined." And I was laughing to my fullest... He came and said " Why are you laughing? That is such a costly cardigan..and that mud is not at all good and safe for her. Just look at her..what has she done to herself."
I calmed him down and said "Dear husband, just see her face and her joy. And nothing else. This is the first time she has come into contact of earth. Let us GIVE HER SOME SPACE and let her enjoy to her fullest. You shall see the difference in her when she she is back home". And that entire day she was so happy, did not make any fuss while eating, slept peacefully...
Just as we as an individual want some space, want to have some fun, want to break certain boundaries, want to be alone and spend time ..similarly our kids also. We should always remember that our children are also a growing individual, having their own thoughts, beliefs, habits. And so, to nurture them in a way they do not becoming defensive, we as parents need to give them some space. And I believe that there is no harm in it. Just try these few things with your child once or twice fortnightly..and you shall see the difference..
You can fix the days in consultation with your child;
1. Let them enjoy watching their favourite programmes on TV any day that they chose.
2. Let them follow their own routine (Like waking up late, not havin breakfast, and all the daily chores) on any two holidays in a month
3. Let them eat what ever they want on any of the Sundays that they chose.
4. Let them hear loud music, dance, shout, whatever they want to..on any of the days they chose..
5. And if they permit, join them in their gang and enjoy.
6. Leave them alone if they want to be, they shall themselves come back to you to tell.
This can be applied and modified according to the age group. It shall be tough at the beginning..but then we shall see our children coming close to us, follow our routine and time table, listen to us and shall not be very fussy.. The bottom line is that we should try giving space to our children for nurturing a healthy parent child relationship.

A. yes
whenever you give any new food to the child you have to take care of two things.
you should give in small quantity. if the child doesn't develop any digestion problem in next 24 hours to 48 hours and the child is able to digest that food then that food can be given again.
but if the child is not able to digestc or there is some problem with vomiting or loose motion or colic pain then kindly avoid that food.
we wait for 2 to 3 days to confirm whether the child is having any problem to that particular food or not
