Government Schemes for School Education That Parents Should Know About
Education is very important for economic, political, and social transformation. In the twenty-first century, a population that is well-educated and equipped with relevant skills, attitudes, and knowledge is needed for the overall development of society. Education plays a key role in creating a just and equitable society.
India’s population is around 1.32 billion. The education system in this country has gone through a lot of changes over the years as per the growing needs and demands. The standard of education in India has been getting better and many children are securing higher marks through quality education. This is because the government is trying to encourage children with the help of various schemes that provide better facilities. They have implemented many changes that are aimed at improving the standard and style of training and teaching. Many state governments have taken steps to send a few teachers to foreign educational institutions to update their skills and knowledge and to improve their teaching quality.
Schemes That Have Motivated Kids to Go to School and Learn
To achieve the universalisation of elementary education, the government has started numerous projects and programs. In keeping with the principles of the National Policy of Education, the government has brought about various schemes that ensure equitable education for all. The main aim of these schemes is to improve access to good education by expanding good schools, to promote equity and to improve the basic quality of education. Here are a few schemes for elementary education in India.
1. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)
This program was introduced in 2001 and is one of the biggest projects in India. The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is a flagship program for the children to get Universal Elementary Education (UEE). This program covers the entire country and works in partnership with local and state governments. SSA is mainly useful for children between the ages of 6 to 14. The program aims to universalise education and improves its quality by time-bound implementation strategy and context-specific planning. It includes children from all social classes.
2. National Program for Education of Girls at Elementary Education (NPEGEL)
The NPEGEL program has been initiated by the Government of India to reach girls, especially the girls that are not enrolled in a school. The program was started in July 2003 and this program is a significant component of the SSA. The program provides extra support for improving the education of girls. Some objectives that come under this scheme are the development of learning materials that are gender-sensitive, gender-sensitisation of teachers, provisions like stationary, uniforms, and workbooks. The main focus of this program is to break gender stereotypes and to make sure girls get a good education at the elementary level.
3. Midday Meal Scheme
Otherwise known as the National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education, this plan was launched in 1995 to provide mid-day meals to children studying in primary class. The main objective of creating this scheme was to eliminate classroom hunger of children and to increase attendance and enrolment of children at schools. This scheme also aims to improve the interaction between children of all castes and religions. It also addresses the issue of inadequate and improper nutrition among children. Women are also socially empowered since the scheme creates employment opportunities. Thus, this scheme can help in developing children emotionally and socially.
4. Right to Education (RTE) Act
This was another amazing step taken by the government. The Right to Education (RTE) Act was enacted in 2009, and this Act made education for every child between 6 and 14 years a fundamental right. It also set the basic norms that must be followed by every elementary school in the country. Thus, children got the right to receive free elementary education. This means that no child has to pay any kind of charges or fee to complete education up to elementary level. The RTE act also aims at the development of a curriculum that makes sure the child receives the benefit of all-round development, building their knowledge, talent, and potential. The Right to Education Act has made it compulsory to reserve 25 per cent in private schools for children from economically weaker families.
5. Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao
This scheme initiated in 2015 is one of the most famous central government schemes for girl education. The main aim of this government scheme was initially to protect girl children from female foeticide and infanticide and later, provide assistance for their education. Other objectives of the plan include stopping the practice of gender-determination tests and discrimination against girl children. The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme ensures the protection of girls and their survival and makes sure that girls participate in educational activities alongside boys. This scheme thus spreads the awareness that girl children are not a burden.
6. Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya
Launched in 2004, the KGBV scheme aims at setting up residential schools for girls belonging to minority communities at the upper primary level. This scheme is mainly implemented in the parts of the country where girls aren't enrolled in school. This scheme provides reservation of 25% to girls from families below the poverty line and the rest 75% to the girls belonging to ST, SC, OBC, and other minority communities. The main idea behind this scheme is that by setting up residential schools, girls from disadvantaged groups of the society can access quality education.
7. Scheme for Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutes (IDMI)
To improve the quality of education, the scheme has been started to improve infrastructure in unaided/aided minority schools. The salient features of this scheme include expanding facilities that will help the education of children from minority communities. The entire country comes under this scheme, but preference is given to places that have a minority population above 20 per cent. The scheme also encourages educational facilities for children with special needs, girls, and others who are mostly held back in society.
In recent decades, the implementations of these schemes have made it easier for accessing school and the enrolments rates in the primary schools have gotten higher. India also sees a decrease in dropout rates. Largely due to these programs, primary education in India has turned out to be a success story even in the remote parts of the country.

Post-delivery Recipes for New Moms
When you have to take care of an infant, food preparation and coordinated meals can seem like a daunting task. But you need not stress any more. Here are a few after-delivery recipes that you can try to make your life a bit easy:
1. Roasted Pumpkin Soup
This super healthy soup is the ideal comfort food with its smooth and creamy texture. This delicious soup gets its sweetness from carrots. It may be considered as one of those wonderful recipes for new moms to freeze. You can prepare it ahead of time and freeze for later use. So, when the hunger pangs strike, you simply need to defrost and reheat it!
Prep time
It takes approximately an hour to prepare this soup.
Ingredients
1 large pumpkin
2 carrots
1 onion
5 cloves of garlic
3 celery stalks
Herbs of your choice
Pepper and salt to taste
Olive oil
Three cups of vegetable stock
How to Make
Peel, pit and slice the pumpkin into small cube-sized pieces.
Chop the onions, carrots, celery into big chunks.
Take a large pan and pour some olive oil.
Put it on medium heat and add the chopped pumpkin, onions, carrots, celery to it.
Add the cloves of garlic too after finely chopping them.
Then add the herbs, pepper and salt.
Roast the veggies until they are soft and tender.
Transfer the cooked vegetables to a blender. Add some vegetable stock to it and puree until you get the desired consistency.
It may take a few batches to puree all the vegetables. Also, keep in mind to remove the stems of the herbs before pureeing them.
Empty the pureed mixture into a saucepan. Pour the remaining vegetable stock.
Stir this mixture well and let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes or until it becomes thick and smooth.
2. Vegetable Pulao
This yummy dish infused with the goodness of vegetables can be a good meal for new mom. It's easy to make and does not require much time.
Prep time
It usually takes around half an hour to cook this tasty and healthy pulao. You may also pressure cook the rice to save some time.
Ingredients
2 cups of basmati rice
1 tablespoon of ginger-garlic paste
1 onion (chopped)
1 cup of mixed vegetables, chopped (beans, carrots, peas, cauliflower)
2 tomatoes (chopped)
Green chillies as per choice
Mint leaves (optional)
Salt to taste
Ghee
Water (4 cups)
1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
Cardamom
Bay leaves
Cloves
Cinnamon stick (1/2 inch in size)
Raisins and cashew nuts to decorate (optional)
How to Make
Soak the basmati rice in some water for 15 minutes.
Heat ghee in a pot/rice cooker.
Add the whole spices (cumin seeds, bay leaves, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon stick) one by one to the heated ghee.
Then add the ginger-garlic paste. Sauté for a few minutes.
Now add the chopped onion.
Add the vegetables when the onion turns pink or golden brown followed by chopped tomatoes.
Cook the vegetables for about 5 minutes and transfer the drained rice to it.
Mix well and add the mint leaves, salt and water.
Cook this on low heat with the pot covered until the water evaporates and the rice gets cooked.
Stir the rice from time to time and check the water level. Sprinkle some water if required.
When the rice is cooked, allow it to sit for 6-7 minutes with the pot uncovered.
Garnish with raisins and cashew nuts.
3. Coconut Panjeeri
This traditional healing and nutritional food is an essential part of Indian meals for new mothers. Panjeeri is essentially warming and energising which helps promote lymphatic and circulatory flow. New mothers are usually recommended to have panjeeri with milk.
Prep time
This simple recipe can be prepared within an hour.
Ingredients
1 cup of desiccated coconut
¼ cup coconut oil
¼ cup almonds
¼ cup melon seeds
¼ cup gond
¼ cup mixed seeds
¼ cup raisins
1 tablespoon of fennel seeds
1/2 teaspoon of cardamom seeds
1 teaspoon of ginger powder
1 tablespoon of Kamarkas (flame-of-the-forest)
Jaggery (optional and as per preference)
How to Make
Soak all the seeds and nuts in some water for a few hours.
Drain the water and peel off the skin of the almonds.
Lay the drained seeds and nuts on a baking tray and put it in the oven for about half an hour. Next, chop them roughly using a chopper. Alternatively, you could roast them all separately in ghee and blend them together in a mixer-grinder to form a coarse powder.
Grab a pan and place it on low heat.
Add cardamom seeds and fennel, and dry-fry them.
Transfer them to a blender and grind them into a powder.
Take another pan and pour the coconut oil.
Put it on a gentle heat and add the gond to the heated oil.
Fry it until the crystals turn crisp and puff up.
Remove the fried gond and add kamarkas to the same pan.
Fry the kamarkas for a couple of minutes in the remaining coconut oil.
Remove the fried kamarkas. Allow it to cool and then grind it to a fine powder.
Pour more coconut oil into the pan if necessary and add the desiccated coconut.
Gently fry the coconut till it is browned and nicely toasted.
Then add the fennel and cardamom seeds powder and ginger powder to the toasted coconut.
Switch off the flame. Add the powdered Kamarkas.
Next, mix the raisins and chopped seeds and nuts along with fried gond to the coconut mix.
At this stage, you can add some powdered jaggery to the Panjeeri to sweeten it.
You can eat Panjeeri by itself or sprinkle it on your porridge or yoghurt as well.
4. Super Paratha
This wholesome paratha can easily qualify as one of your favourite easy dinner recipes. This paratha goes well with raita or any curry. It tastes best when eaten hot and steaming!
Prep time
The usual prep time for making these delightful parathas is under 15 minutes.
Ingredients
1 cup of leftover cooked moong dal or any other dal available
1 cup of whole wheat flour
1/2 cup rice flour
1/2 cup powdered oats
1/2 cup Besan (gram flour)
1/2 cup grated bottle gourd
1/2 cup grated carrots
Salt to taste
How to Make
Mix all the flours (wheat flour, rice flour, gram flour) and powdered oats well.
Add the dal, grated carrot, grated bottle gourd.
Knead into a smooth dough and make parathas.
5. Beetroot Sambar Curry
This high-protein tangy recipe tastes great with steamed rice or rotis of your choice.
Prep time
The prep time for making this delightful curry is around 45 to 55 minutes.
Ingredients
1 beetroot (peeled and diced)
1 cup of split toor dal (arhar dal)
1 cup of tamarind water
1 tablespoon of sambhar powder
1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
Few curry leaves (roughly chopped)
A pinch of asafoetida (Hing)
1 dry red chilli (optional)
Coriander leaves (chopped) for garnishing
Sesame oil
Salt to taste
How to Make
Add Toor dal to a pressure cooker with about two cups of water.
Allow two whistles and then switch the heat to medium.
Let it simmer for 5 minutes before switching off the heat. Permit the pressure of the cooker to escape naturally.
If the cooked dal appears mushy and thick, add some water and whisk well to get a pouring consistency.
Next, transfer beetroot and tamarind water to a pressure cooker.
Add salt and sambar powder and cook till the beetroot turns soft and tender. It usually takes around three whistles on a high flame to do that.
Turn the stove off and let the pressure escape naturally.
Take a large pan and pour the cooked toor dal and beetroot curry into it.
Place it on a gentle flame and bring it to a boil.
Check the salt levels and adjust accordingly.
Grab another pan and pour some oil.
Add the red chillies and mustard seeds.
Once the mustard seeds start crackling and spluttering, add some curry leaves and hing.
Stir for a few seconds before turning off the flame.
Sprinkle this seasoning on the simmering beetroot curry.
Scatter the coriander leaves and give it a good mix.
The days following the delivery can be a whirlwind of activities. New mothers should take good care of their health and diet for faster recovery. Nevertheless, they can still treat themselves to some delicious and nourishing meals by smart planning and easy-to-prepare recipes.

Stay clear of these 7 home remedies that don't really work or can do you more harm than good.
1. Treating Acne With Toothpaste
A common home remedy for pimples is to dab a bit of toothpaste on them to make them disappear. While toothpaste helps dry out acne, which is why this home remedy is recommended, it also dries out the skin. Ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium fluoride, which are found in toothpaste, irritate the skin and strip it of its natural lipids. It may even lead to dark pigmentation of the skin. Simply put, toothpaste was designed for your pearly-whites - and should be used just for that!
What to do instead: Moisturise with aloe vera gel or apply diluted apple cider vinegar onto the affected area for desired results.
2. Exfoliating Skin With Homemade Nut Scrubs
Exfoliating your skin is an important step required for removing dead skin cells and making your face glow. Nut scrubs are a common natural exfoliator used to achieve that fresh glow. However, using crushed nuts (even when mixed with honey or oil) can pose certain side effects – the small sharp edges, when rubbed onto your skin, can result in wear and tear…literally. You don’t want the healthy pink glow you wish for to be highlighted with mini red bruises, do you?
What to do instead: Try a ground coffee and sugar scrub, or a scrub made of oatmeal and milk. Ensure that when you apply the mixture on your skin, you do not rub it too vigorously, as over-exfoliation (even with a gentler scrub) can cause damage to the skin.
3. Butter or Toothpaste for Burns
Not only does butter NOT help with treating burns, but it could also make it much worse by retaining heat. The butter could also harbour bacteria. As for toothpaste, it’s not sterile and could lead to infections. The chemicals in toothpaste can irritate the skin as well. These remedies do not have much evidence to back the claim of them treating burns, so you’d do best to avoid them!
What to do instead: Run cool water (not cold water or ice) over the affected area for at least 20 minutes. You can also use a cold compress or rub aloe vera gel over the burn for relief.
4. Petroleum Jelly for Vaginal Dryness
Having intercourse without enough lubricant can be quite uncomfortable. Petroleum jelly is a common alternative to lube used by women who experience vaginal dryness. However, its usage may increase the risk of infections ‘down there’ because petroleum jelly sticks around for longer than traditional lube. Do you really want to use something that could take a couple of days to get completely washed out of your body? We didn’t think so!
What to do instead: Personal lubricants, either water- or silicone based, that are available in local pharmacies, are better suited for the delicate environment of your personal areas.
5. Orange Juice for a Cold
Busting one of the most popular myths that orange juice is the healing elixir to gulp down when you’re down with a cold, here’s what you need to know. Vitamin C hasn’t really been proven to treat colds, not unless the people trying the remedy were in really good physical condition. If not, then it hardly does much to get rid of a bad case of sniffles!
What to do instead: Chicken soup or hot herbal tea is what you need to drink up if you’ve caught a bad cold. Stay hydrated with plenty of fluids and of course, stay warm as much as possible!
6. ‘Walking Off’ an Ankle Injury
If you’ve hurt your ankle but the injury doesn’t seem very severe, the advice often imparted is to ‘shake it off and just walk’. Wrong remedy! If your ankle hurts, it needs rest, and loads of it! Putting pressure on the sprain or injury is just going to make things worse for your ankle.
What to do instead: The first order of action should be to follow the ‘RICE’ method, to ease the pain of the injury, and bring down the swelling.
Rest the injured area.
Ice should be administered to the affected area.
Compression. Wrap the area firmly with a bandage to reduce swelling.
Elevate the injured ankle by propping it up on a couple of pillows while you sit down.
7. Applying Lemon Juice to Dark Spots on the Skin
Natural has been the buzzword for quite some time now, but all that’s natural may not be beneficial (for several purposes) – in fact, they may be downright harmful! Applying lemon juice or rubbing a slice of lemon directly onto the skin has recently been touted as a great home remedy for skin lightening. Well, NOT for people who face the sun a lot! A. I think after completing your first trimester you can start having Iron and calcium supplement you should have them till the time you do not deliver deliver after delivery you should have them for another six months to 1 year depending upon what your doctor suggest
