Boon of becoming mother is indeed a blissful phase in every woman's life. The moment, you get to know the good news, you and your the family is bound to be super excited and happy, but at the same time you have to be extra careful. Now, you deserve some pampering to enjoy the phase of 9 months, to the best possible ways. You have to now take care of yourself and the baby in your womb. Every mother has different journey and different circumstances to be faced. It includes both challenges as well as happy times. I share few struggles and solutions, based on some of my experiences, and some that I saw among friends and family.
Now, the first thing you look forward is to hear the heartbeat. Usually, you get to hear the first heartbeats of the baby as early as in 5th week but sometimes it may take long and its completely all right as long as your doctor doesn't raise any concern. Your doctor may ask to wait two more weeks and then in 7th week you may get to hear that. So this would require patience and you must remain calm rather than worrying. There is no other choice than wait. Fruits of patience are always sweeter. Keep faith that All is Well.
In first trimester, some women may face morning sickness. Lucky you if you do not have to face this for much period. As this really takes a toll on your health. You can't put anything in mouth without medicines. Nothing will sustain in your stomach without medicines. Otherwise, once you would start getting nauseous, you will completely be exhausted in bathroom trips. Though you may be nauseous, keep taking liquids and food intake, along with medicines as instructed, to avoid dehydration and weakness and lack of nutrition.
Pregnancy cravings, as they say, are at the peak level. All may face different kind of cravings from simple ones to weirdest ones ever heard of. Said that, your doctor may prohibit you to take certain foods like street food, junk food, Chinese, excessive caffeine, too spicy, etc. Now, the dilemma will be that you would crave for something from the same food group that you are asked to avoid. Remember, you must eat healthy and fresh homecooked meal to keep your self and your baby healthy. Its for your good as well as for baby's good. So you must learn to control your cravings.
As you would move forward, your doctor may prescribe HCG injections but it is completely normal nothing to worry. It is kind of hormone required upto certain level and if the level is low the injections are required to sustain pregnancy. Also, for maintaining progesterone hormone levels, you may be advised the medicines to be taken orally or vaginally. The later one is very discomforting I tell you. Well, you must not skip any medicine prescribed, as it is required for the pregnancy sustainability.
If your age is beyond 30 then you may be asked to undergo some scans and reports for eliminating and nullify the high risks involved if any. Now, the duration, the reports are handed over to you, is pretty much high, around a week or more. So this will make you tensed and you may have sleepless nights. This may also take toll on your health. But don't worry and keep faith in God. Stay happy and positive. All will be good.
All to be moms have different health conditions to be faced. So never compare yourself with others. Some of the medicines, that are prescribed by your doctor, might be based on your health conditions, so this is subject to individual. You'll be required to take different supplements as well like for Iron, Calcium, Protein, zinc, folic, vitamins, etc. Each one would have its own purpose to be fulfilled and to be taken for particular duration. So you have to remember all, take those on time and always refill before it runs out of stock. Also, do not take any medicine on your own during pregnancy, even if you used to take before pregnancy, but not now. Do not take it without your doctor's approval. It may have adverse effect on baby.
Pregnancy is also followed by many underlying health conditions like Urinary Tract Infections, Gestational Diabetes, High or Low Blood Pressure, Swelling, Constipation, Thyroid, etc, to name a few. You may face these during pregnancy. So you must keep check on this and take required medicines regularly to keep the condition under control. If by chance you skip any dose then don't take it in odd hours without confirming with your doctor.
Now, by the time your first and second trimesters are over, you would now have a baby bump growing. You may consider now sharing the good news with your relatives and friends. Then you will see there will be flood of advices, that would keep pouring in, with all do's and don'ts. Now, the more you hear, more you will remain in confused state like what to do and what not. Listen to your heart and do what you feel is best for you and your baby, and if in dilemma, discuss and confirm with your doctor.
There would also be limitations to the daily chores that you can do, exercises that you can do. Certain posture and pressure exerting tasks are avoided. Going forward, you may also find difficulty in walking or climbing stairs. Do only as your doctor advises and don't push yourself into trouble. Listen to your body and take rest whenever needed. Only you can know your limits better.
Also, there will be lot many mood swings. You will see yourself at your best emotional side. Sometimes you will feel like crying as well. This is the time to bring out your creative side and do something that will give you pleasure. Pick up your hobby and do something that you like be it painting, music, art, cooking, etc, but it shouldn't put strain on you. This will be best way to fight the pregnancy blues. Talk with your near and dear ones, it will help. Also, doing meditation everyday will help alot.
You will also have sleepless nights. You may also find difficulty in sleeping due to your baby bump size, baby kicks, etc. Sleepless nights will make you more worse. So sleep whenever you feel sleepy even during day time. Quick Naps will help you alot and you will feel fresh. Take rest and be happy. Never stress to much.
Always remember, the journey is not so easy, so be yourself, take care and consider these points and you will find it smooth and be able to enjoy it.
