7 Indian Babies Who Beat the Odds to Survive and Will Make You Believe in Miracles!
For nothing is stronger than the will to survive!
Life works in very funny and mysterious ways. It picks you up when you are at your worst, helps you bounce back from your deepest hiatus, humbles you when you are floating in the sky... and gives you hope just when you are about to give up! For a mother, especially, hope is among her strongest emotions – hope that her baby will be just fine and healthy, even when circumstances suggest otherwise…
What the words 'hope', 'faith', and 'miracle' mean to someone will differ with each person – for some they may give strength, to some they may sound like elusive concepts. But to a mother, hope, faith, and miracles about her baby can lead to only good things – primarily gratefulness, and happiness!
7 Indian Miracle Babies Will Restore Your Hope and Faith
Indeed, being told you are pregnant and are finally going to be a mother is one of the most special moments in the life of a couple that is trying to conceive. No one can imagine what it must be like to lose a baby... however, these 8 stories curated from all over the country, will give you renewed hope about life.
If these miracle babies could bounce back at life and get a second lease on it, anything can happen!
1. This baby suffered 6 HEART ATTACKS right after birth!
At 45 days, Vidisha fainted in her mother's hands after her feed. Although she regained consciousness a while later, she fell unconscious again. On being taken to the B. J. Wadia Hospital, it was discovered that Vidisha had been born with a heart defect called 'transposition'. In this condition the two major arteries of the heart – aorta and pulmonary – are swapped in position.
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="430"] Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com//city/mumbai/miracle-baby-survives-12-hour-operation-six-heart-attacks/articleshow/58618201.cms?[/caption]
The correction surgery for transposition should ideally be performed immediately after birth. However, since the defect went undetected, Vidisha had lived for 1.5 months with a 'reversed' heart.
After undergoing a 12-hour long intense surgery at the hands of Dr Biswa Panda, paediatric cardiac surgeon of Wadia Hospital, Vidisha was kept under observation in the hospital. While the operation was successful, during her time in the hospital, Vidisha suffered 6 instances of cardiac arrest! The longest episode lasted 15 minutes, after which Vidisha was successfully resuscitated.
Adversity truly brings out the best in people: while parents Vishaka and Vinod Waghmare managed to raise only INR25,000 for her surgery, the entire bill of INR500,000 was taken care of through various donations that came pouring in from around the country.
2. This baby had just 20% BLOOD IN HIS SYSTEM!
A 36 week pregnant mother in had to undergo an emergency C-section because her baby's breathing pattern was detected to be abnormal. However, that wasn't half of the problem.
After delivery, doctors found the baby to be severely anaemic, with only 20% of his total blood left in his system! Normally, a mother's body supports that of the baby's growing inside her. This means, the baby derives everything to sustain its life from the mother, mainly from her blood. However, in this bizarre case, the baby's blood was flowing out of his body and into his mother's!

Known as feto-maternal haemorrhage, babies born in this state appear almost white and are sometimes called 'ghost babies'. After three rounds of blood transfusion, and being kept on respiratory support system, the condition of the baby was stabilised.
3. This premature baby had a pacemaker fit in her just 2 HOURS AFTER BIRTH.
We have all heard of old people being fitted with pacemakers, when they suffer from heart conditions such as arrhythmia, and others. However, can you imagine a pacemaker being fitted to a 2 HOUR old baby girl? Yes! That's exactly what happened in Mumbai last week.
Born with a congenital heart blockage, this Mumbai baby girl was suffering from a condition that prevented electrical impulses from being conducted from the upper to the lower chambers of her heart. This resulted in her having a heartbeat rate of only 42 beats per minute (as compared to the normal 120-140 beats per minute rate for newborns).
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="430"] Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/Born-at-23-weeks-Indias-miracle-preemie-goes-home-healthy/articleshow/48930402.cms[/caption]
Along with the health complications that arose by virtue of her condition, one practical problem was: there was no pacemaker battery available that was small enough to be fitted to a newborn. So the hospital had to accommodate the regular sized pacemaker-battery, which they then placed in her stomach.
However, doctors say the baby girl will be able to lead a normal life, baring a few lifestyle decisions that will have to be taken for her good health and safety.
4. This baby was born at just 23 WEEKS!
We are sure you have heard of premature babies, but have you ever heard of a micro-preemie baby? It is a term used for babies that are born within 26 weeks of gestation and/or weight less than 800gm. Unbelievable? Well, this story will turn you into a believer.
Trupti and Santosh Mhabrey welcomed their micro-preemie baby Sakshi 2 years ago, at only 23 weeks, measuring about a foot head-to-toe, and weighing less than half-kg (460gm only).
A baby that arrived after 5 miscarriages and 12 years of marriage - indeed the couple felt blessed when Sakshi was born. However, they were not allowed to even touch the baby after she was born. Can you imagine the agony of the couple? Sakshi, however, was determined to light up her parents' lives and braved multiple complications, including brain haemorrhage, fragile bones, underdeveloped lungs, and multiple infections.
Close to 85,000 hours of efforts later, Sakshi went home at a healthy 1.9kg in the arms of her loving parents!
5. This baby had NO PULSE for 45 min after birth!
Mumbai Baby Aaradhya was born with a hole in his heart – a condition that is no longer 'rare' or 'unheard of'. However, what makes his story that of a brave fighter spirit, is the fact that post-surgery, Aaradhya's heart had stopped beating for a complete 45 minutes!
Aaradhya was admitted to the hospital after having shown the cardinal sign of a hole in the heart soon after birth: his skin had turned blue. This happens primarily because the heart is unable to provide oxygenated blood to the entire body. The condition had been detected during the pregnancy itself, however, his mother was determined to give birth to her baby.
A day after the surgery was performed, Aaradhya's heart stopped beating. It was soon connected to an artificial circulation-support system, which helped revive and stabilise the organ. The entire procedure took 26 hours. Within 2 days, normal functioning of all her body parts and organs was restored.
The surgery was performed free of charge, considering the meagre economic background of the family.
6. This baby boy who was ABANDONED only FEW DAYS AFTER BEING BORN!
While a lot of babies go through life-challenging odds to come into this world, it is sad to know that many a time couples are not ready to have the babies they have been blessed with. Even today, cases are still reported of babies being abandoned and left to die.
Something similar happened with this baby boy. Left to die in a sewer in only a couple of days after he was born, baby Ansh was rescued by Nimesh Bhansali, a civilian who refused to become a by-stander to the unfortunate fate the baby-boy had been left to.
When Nitesh discovered Ansh (whom he named himself), the baby was lying covered in mud, with ants crawling all over his face. Not only did he rescue the baby by cleaning him up and taking him to the hospital, he and his wife are now also thinking of adopting the boy as their third son. Adding to this, the hospital also treated Ansh for free. Nimesh said, “Ansh is lucky for me. Ever since I found him, he has brought goodness into my life. I will try my level best to keep him with me.”
7. This baby girl in Odisha survived in spite of being BURIED ALIVE!
Another similar, horrific tale is of a baby girl who was buried in a compost pit, face covered in a cloth, and still survived!
The incident occurred in Odisha. A little girl walking past a compost field walked close to something weird she saw in the field, only to discover it was a baby leg sticking out of the ground! She rushed for help to the nearby houses. Soon the locals discovered a baby girl buried in a shallow compost pit who – in spite of having her face covered in a cloth – was alive and breathing!
Dharitri, as the baby girl was later named, had been buried only hours after being born. The umbilical cord and vernix of the baby was still intact when she was discovered. The district administration adopted the girl post her discovery.

Altitude Sickness in Babies & Kids
Kids and altitude sickness have known to coexist for a long time but the connection might have been observed in recent times. You might have heard incidents of children having a tough time when they go to a hill station, or your own child might be suffering from it, too. While a nice trip to a high altitude place might seem like the best vacation plan ever, a condition of altitude sickness in your child could cause you to put the plans on hold or change them altogether. Thankfully, altitude sickness can be prevented and treated effectively, with a few tips and tricks.
What is Altitude Sickness?
Altitude sickness is a proper medical condition that plagues people and children when present significantly above the sea level. There is an entire range of symptoms that can indicate the presence of discomfort ranging from nausea, headaches, vomiting, or even mild ones such as loss of appetite. This usually occurs when the height is more than 2.4 kilometres above the sea level. While some instances can only be mildly discomforting, there are possibilities of some reactions being extremely fatal to the person.
Types of Altitude Sickness
Amongst the various symptoms that can emerge at a high altitude, the phenomena of altitude sickness are usually divided into three major categories.
1. Acute Mountain Sickness
Generally abbreviated as AMS, acute mountain sickness is strongly categorised by the presence of nausea and vomiting, combined with strong headaches and a loss of appetite. Most people also complain of fatigue as a result of this condition. This is the most common sickness experienced at high altitudes.
2.High Altitude Cerebral Edema
Abbreviated as HACE, this condition usually has all the symptoms of acute mountain sickness, along with a sudden onset of lethargy, an inability to have proper gait, and a complete sense of utter confusion about the situation. HACE, if left untreated, can be quite fatal.
3.High Altitude Pulmonary Edema
Just like HACE, this condition termed as HAPE, also contains all symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, headache, fatigue, as well as a focus on the respiratory activity, leading to constant breathlessness, cough and extreme weakness. Though HAPE is quite rare, it is just as fatal as HACE, if left untreated.
What Causes Altitude Sickness in Children?
There are no specific reasons to understand why altitude sickness might be triggered in some children while not in others. One of the strongest reasons behind that seems to be the presence of lower oxygen levels as compared to that at ground level. This usually causes the body to exert more effort in carrying out the same functions, which also ends up using more oxygen than before. Furthermore, any activity causing exertion, such as hiking or trekking, can lead to an increased demand for oxygen, worsening the sickness.
Possible Symptoms of Altitude Sickness In A Child
The symptoms of altitude sickness in babies or children are pretty straightforward and can be spotted by any person easily. These usually are:
Erratic moods ranging from crankiness to sudden periods of silence
An onset of depression resulting in an absence of activity and energy
A strong sense of fatigue and exhaustion
A sudden drowsiness that can be uncontrollable
The sensation of being dizzy, similar to vertigo
Signs of indigestion and a complete loss of appetite
Extreme nausea combined with bouts of vomiting
How To Treat a Child's Altitude Sickness
In most children, altitude sickness is rarely quite severe and can be treated or reduced with some quick methods. Most of them work towards making the body feel better and instilling a sense of mental peace and calm.
Give your child a sweater or gloves to protect from the cold mountain air. Cuddle up against your baby in multiple layers if you can.
Stay hydrated. Let your child drink as much water as possible to feel better. Allow your baby to breastfeed as well since that could make him feel better.
In case the symptoms get severe, get your kids to the hospital as soon as you can.
How to Prevent High Altitude Sickness in Kids
Preventing altitude sickness in toddlers and kids can be achieved by adhering to some simple basic precautions.
Avoid going to places located at high altitudes if your baby is younger than 3 months or your child has had unresolved issues earlier.
Make sure your kid rests extensively once you reach your destination and not indulge in any activity right away.
When in a vehicle, try to drive slower while crossing hills and avoid taking sharp turns.
If on a long journey, take enough breaks in between to allow periods of rest and refreshments.
Let your kid sip water throughout or even some juices if possible.
Be aware of any symptoms and take corrective action immediately.
Babies and high altitude locations do not always go hand-in-hand, especially when they are too young. Most altitude sickness symptoms fade away once children grow up. Any other instances can be checked by the doctor to diagnose any rare conditions.

Motherhood or a Solitary life?
Every thing has a cost!
The princess when born is introduced to this world like a fairy tale only if not born in a family of so called underprivileged people. The world is competitive and hence, the upbringing of our kids being a boy or a girl. The parents shower them with all the goodness of their life more than their own worth. A girl also grows up aspiring and living her own dreams, her own life, her ambitions, her career and above all her own rules of living life but the word 'Motherhood' is that beautiful word in a girl's life which molds her completely!
“Mother” word in itself encompasses the feeling of warmth, love and care but like any other good thing, it too comes with its own cost. In the journey of becoming a mother, certain changes are expected like a new baby, physical changes, responsibilities, etc. but one may not anticipate all the ways that motherhood changes you from within; your own inner-self! Being a 'mother' is an exhilarating experience and children bring a new meaning to every moment of your life and depth to your experience as a human being. As a 'parent' your life has a revolutionary change in the way not only your day to day life but it alters your very identity as a person! You life is no more of your own. The happiness of giving it all to your little bundle of joy energizes you to keep doing it day and night but at times you feel like running away from everything. Sometimes you really want to reanimate your earlier days. But the motherhood word is so deep that even a smile on your baby's face makes you forget everything, you want to play with him, feed him, see him growing, and wake up all night to watch him asleep and may be you feel proud realizing the worth of being a mother, a creator of another life on this Earth!
The motherhood becomes like an invisible job.You keep grappling the entire day but when you count, you are actually not able to sum it up! All this causes a huge emotional fluctuation and many times a woman is not able to balance herself due to both physical and mental changes. But no one understands that this is indeed a very big change in her life. After becoming a mother, we realize that we not only held a new baby, we owned a new identity! Somewhere I read "Marriage was a minor blip but having a child was something different." People look at her just as a mother. Now the ambitions of a women, her dreams, her style of living, her choices everything needs to go in sync with her child. Forgetting those lazy weekends, those only 'me' outings, reading, writing, anything you want to or like to, you need to create a balance with the preferences of your child.
Being called a "Dad" makes you feel proud and yes you should feel so but for all this you need to respect the 'mother' of your child, love her the most and support her in all the ways during this important transition. When a child is born , a mother also gives birth to various relationships and make the entire family feel privileged but in most cases it is only the mum who bears all the responsibility, put in her best efforts and sacrifice everything for his/her upbringing! Keep loving her and go ahead to at-least calm her during these emotional fluctuations!
So, the “motherhood” even at a cost makes us feel privileged that the God above has chosen us as a creator on earth. It makes you understand the real meaning of two words ‘Love’ and ‘Care’. Let her not realize that her solitary life has come to an end but together we can discover the new dimensions of this beautiful feeling of parenthood instead of just motherhood!
Being a mother of a one year old child now, I could sail in the same boat of my mother and feel how much she loved, cared and sacrificed to bring us here! Kudos to all the mothers of this world! Read more

Are you More Competitive Than your Marriage Can Take?
Disagreements and arguments over small issues are commonplace in marriage. But if you're constantly competing with your husband, things may go from normal to bad! From household chores to money matters, competing with each other may just bring downfall to your marriage.
A healthy competition in marriage can help you strengthen your bond but it’s important to draw a line and remember to respect each other. Too often, couples forget that they’re supposed to create a balance in their marriage. They begin trying to one-up the other till their relationship sours.
Dealing with Unhealthy Competition in Marriage
1. You’re Not Rivals
A competition that becomes unhealthy creates a rift in marriages and eventually couples who were once madly in love start drifting apart. To avoid straining your relationship, it’s important to work together as a team. A common factor that makes you compete with your husband is money, especially if the one who isn’t earning much is under-appreciated. Look for ways to tackle materialism while still enjoying the comforts of life. You’ll be amazed by the difference it makes in your marriage.
2. Learn to Compromise
Don’t earn to outshine your husband but earn to help him instead. Remember that whatever the two of you do is for the betterment of your marriage. If you plan to have a child, you’ll need to work together even more. It’s not necessary to excel in each and everything you do. Relax and let your better half shine every once in a while. Let him have the last say from time to time.
3. Respect Each Other
One way to work a relationship without changing your personality and his is to have mutual respect. Take things more easily and be as generous with one another as you can. You may have a valid point about something and your husband may not agree with you at times. Respect his decision to disagree. Sometimes, looking at things from another’s perspective can be very eye-opening.
4. Appreciate His Efforts
A little appreciation and encouragement goes a really long way to let him know that you’re happy with him and proud of him. Value his efforts as a husband, a father and as a man. Be as loving and understanding as you can even if you aren’t in your best spirits. If there’s something you want to say, do so in a positive manner and try to find a solution that’s best for both of you.
A wife can compete in her marriage without straining it. You don’t have to show your leadership skills to your husband; save them for the workplace. A healthy relationship is all about balance and remembering what’s important–respect and love. Read more

Positive Attention and your Baby: Conquer the Hurdles
Offering positive attention to your child is the best way to encourage his development. It is a healthy way to communicate the behaviour you expect from them. Also, giving an encouraging response boosts a child’s confidence.
Children, who get a positive response to their needs and demands at home, feel more valued and turn out to become progressive individuals. Criticism or negligence can make them withdraw into a shell and become a cynical adult.
In the same way, babies can also feel unwanted and unloved, if you do not respond to their cries and little gestures. Thus, it becomes vital for parents to connect with their children on a regular basis in a loving manner. There are different verbal and non-verbal means of expressing positive attention to your child.
Importance of Positive Attention
Positive attention is nothing, but a way to show appreciation and delight towards your child’s behaviour. This fosters warmth in the relationship with your children and they feel loved and cared.
A child’s self-esteem is built with positive remarks, responses and loving messages from his parents and other key family members. This makes him feel capable of bringing pleasure to others and boosts up his morale and confidence.
A child faces challenges in different spheres of his life. If he gets intimidated by any unfamiliar situation, he looks up to his family members for support and assurance. This faith, in turn gives him the strength to face the challenges in a more organised way.
Overcoming Obstacles in the Path of Positive Attention
Life in present times, is full of personal and financial responsibilities. Unforeseen changes in lifestyle like job change, shifting to a new place or even planning a family occasion, drains the energy and leaves you distracted or depressed. If you feel overwhelmed with these negative emotions, instead of distancing yourself from your child, discuss your problems and situations with your partner or friends to let the emotions out. Do not let your relationship with your baby suffer because of any of these problems.
Work related stress is another common obstacle in the way of building positive attention with your children. Always make sure that you leave your work stress at office and try to spend quality time with your children. Make positive interactions with them and get energised with the warmth in your relationship.
Show Positive Attention to your Baby
Children like getting attention right from the time they are born. Even newborns tend to learn from and communicate with their surrounding environment. Positive interaction during this time is very beneficial for the baby. In the infant stage, you can communicate your love by hugging, comforting, smiling back and responding to the sounds of your little one. Your baby is going to love every bit of it and this will make him feel secured in the environment.
As your baby grows older, the positive attachment takes the form of encouraging words and actions. Engage in constructive activities with your children and encourage them with affirmative remarks. Pay attention towards them and show your participation through smile, eye contact or even thumbs up.
Positive attention gives a form of security to the child, that helps him to become a responsible and compassionate adult. By learning to build positive interactions, you will be able to nurture the bond of love and trust with your child. Read more
