Is Watching TV while Eating Harming You and Your Kids?
Eating in front of the television is common these days, as is checking phones, watching laptops and other screens. While most of us don’t really think twice about it, and some even claim that it has its advantages, watching TV while eating is a bad habit that does more harm than good.
Why is Eating in front of the TV a Bad Idea?
If you and your family included screentime in your mealtime, here are some side effects of watching TV while eating
1. Causes Overeating and Obesity
Studies have shown that we tend to eat more while watching TV as we have not been paying attention to how much we are eating. Eating too much will eventually lead to obesity.
2. Distraction
When eating food and watching TV, the brain is distracted and sends out the wrong signals to the body and does not process the taste or satisfaction of the palette.
3. Unhealthy Eating Habits
Unhealthy eating becomes a habit while watching television as you are unable to appreciate the food you eat if you are concentrating on the TV.
4. Lower Metabolism
Watching TV while eating lowers the metabolic rate leading to the food being digested slower and the fat being burned slowly.
5. Indigestion
Eating while watching TV and digestion are linked as you are unable to process how much and what you are eating. This, in turn, will lead to problems with digestion as your body is unable to properly digest the amount or the kind of food being eaten.
6. No Satisfaction
When your mind needs to concentrate on two things at once, it is unable to enjoy either of them properly.
7. No Family Interaction
If everyone is more interested in watching TV while eating, the conversation that families usually enjoy during meals will not take place, and there will be even less time for family bonding in this busy time and age.
Is Your Kid Only Eating while Watching TV?
Children who are fussy eaters may be able to be fed better while watching something. The distraction makes it easier for parents to get them to eat. Unfortunately, this can form a habit, and your child may not want to eat without watching something. Children can be weaned off this habit, and while they may fuss and throw tantrums at first, they will eventually learn to eat without watching TV.
Tips to Keep Your Kids Away from the TV while Eating
Here are some tips on how to stop your toddler from watching TV while eating.
While weaning your child from a TV, make sure that you are not distracted by the TV, mobile or laptop. Give them your complete attention so that they know that mealtimes are for food only.
If your child already has the habit and you want to wean them off it, you will need to make sure that your child is hungry, but not starving at mealtimes. This means that you need to ensure that you do not allow their snack times to be too close to their meal times. If your child is comfortably hungry, he will not be that bothered about whether he has the TV in front of him or not.
Start weaning with foods that he or she likes. This way it becomes easier for them to eat their food, even if their favourite TV show is not playing.
Start with smaller mealtimes. You can start by having a five-minute mealtime without TV, and then you can end mealtime. If they have been fussing and did not eat enough during their mealtime, you can always give them a snack again later, but make sure that it is not done in front of the TV. This will help break the association that children have formed with eating and TV.
Ensure that the whole family eats meals without including the television otherwise, it won’t matter if you are trying to form good habits in your child. Children will observe the habits of their parents and will follow in their behaviour.
If your child still refuses to eat without the TV, you can consult a therapist or professional for help.
At first, it might seem difficult to get your child to stop eating while watching TV, so the best thing to do is not to form this habit at all. Remember that these days, our lives are very busy and sometimes mealtimes as a family are the only times that a family gets to really bond with each other and share how their days were. Keep mealtimes as family time and enjoy the meal that you have spent a lot of time preparing, but most of all, enjoy each other’s company.

Traits of Scorpio Toddlers
At times, it may seem that Scorpio kids are too much to handle. But raising one doesn't have to be like being on a roller coaster. Learn the art of handling your little one and make bringing up a Scorpio child a rewarding experience.
Being responsible for someone who’s completely dependent on you can be challenging and even a little frightening. Raising a child whose sun sign is Scoprio, however, is said to be even tougher! For anyone who believes in astrology, they know that Scorpios are not the easiest of people to deal with, and neither are Scorpio children. They can be stubborn and moody and tend to withdraw into themselves. Fortunately, with a little insight, you can learn to handle your little one better.
Understanding a Scorpio Child’s Personality Traits
1. They’re intense!
Scorpio children exhibit a lot of intensity and extremes of emotions. They’re passionate and can love and hate with equal fire. They don’t do anything by half measures! Either they give it their best, or none at all. This can make them difficult to handle, and also makes them competitive by nature.
2. They’re intelligent
Scorpio kids are highly intelligent. They have a keen mind, which shows through in their singularity of purpose and dedication to a task. This intelligence is displayed very early on, and many Scorpio children tend to stand out in class.
3. They yearn for meaningful relationships
Children born under the sign of Scorpio make deep emotional connections, especially with their loved ones and care givers. They need to be taken seriously, whether it’s by having heart-to-heart conversations, or by being as honest with them as you can. Talk to them openly and share your thoughts.
4. They can be secretive
A characteristic of the Scorpio zodiac sign is secrecy. Scorpios tend to withdraw into themselves and keep their thoughts and feelings inside. As a parent, you need to teach them the joys of communicating early on. They cherish a strong connection with a loved one, and once they trust you, they will share their innermost thoughts and feelings with you.
5. They’re moody
Scorpios are known to be moody. When something’s not going right for them, they tend to brood and their mood can change at the drop of a hat. They are also very sensitive to vibes, which means they’re attuned to the feelings of their loved ones. You can’t hide a lot from your little Scorpio!
6. They’re wilful
Raising a Scorpio child means being prepared to deal with a strong will. They know exactly what they want and will try to get it. You need to be firm, yet loving, and you need to enforce discipline gently with them. Force and might will get you nowhere. They’ll only turn more stubborn.
A Scorpio child’s horoscope can give you some extra tools to understand your little one’s moods and thoughts. Forget the dictatorial style of parenting and learn to handle them with patience and love. Let them eat on time and get enough sleep otherwise they tend to get cranky. And, no matter the age of your child, help her connect with nature to soothe and calm her. Give plenty of hugs and kisses, and make sure she knows she’s loved. Read more

Teaching Planning Skills To Toddlers
By teaching toddlers to develop planning skills, moms are able to set their priorities correct in life. With the ability to plan well, children excel in their academics and sports alike. They end up being smartly organised all through. Learn the various ways of teaching planning skills in your child.
Developing planning skills in children is very important. It helps them achieve success in the fields of academics, professional, as well as personal life. It is through channelised thinking that a child is able to plan and develop strategies to attain any given goal. By paving the path for them to self-learn and develop the necessary planning skills, parents actually prepare them for future assignments and exams.
How To Teach Planning Skills To Toddlers?
1. Using Vision Charts
A good way of teaching toddlers to develop planning skills is by introducing them to the concept of ‘goal setting’ using visual charts. Start with simple, real-life examples. Create a chart along with your child depicting the various activities and items involved while getting her ready for school. Here the goal is ‘leaving for school on time’. So, help your child plan the activities(such as brushing, bathing, wearing school uniform etc.) that she carries out at the time of getting ready every morning.
2. Encourage Team Activities
Make your child participate in group activities. This way, your child will learn to plan along with her friends towards accomplishing the same mission. Also, it will help in developing her social skills. You could invite your little one’s friends and give them small puzzles to solve. With team mates, your little one will be able to plan and solve the given puzzles on time.
3. Using A Calendar
Show a calendar to your child and tell her about exciting events such as birthdays, anniversaries in your family. It could be yours, her father’s or her sibling’s. Ask her what she would like to gift to the birthday boy or girl? Does she have any special plans for the cake? What would she like to wear on that particular day? This will teach her the importance of planning in advance.
4. Game Time
Spend some quality time with your child by playing board games with her.To make it interesting, get some time management games for kids. Such games require players to complete particular tasks within a stipulated time frame. Such indoor games work really well towards developing bonding and a child’s strategic thinking abilities.
5. Bake Together
One of the most fun time management activities for children is baking. When you have free time, bake some muffins or cookies with your little one. Tell her about all the ingredients required, mix in the ingredients together, and then show how you put the cake tin in the oven after setting the desired time for baking. This is indeed an enjoyable activity through which your child learns to plan(with arranging and mixing the different ingredients) and understand the value of time.
With these hacks in place, you now know more about what are planning skills essential in toddlers. Without them, kids may find it difficult to cope with classroom learning or in finishing their homework in time.
Do share your tips for making time management an easy to learn milestone in toddlers. Read more

5 Month Sleep Regression – Causes and Signs You Should Know
Parenting is a beautiful journey, filled with many joys and new experiences. However, it also comes with its fair share of challenges, one of which is dealing with a baby’s sleep pattern changes. One particular phase that can be difficult for many parents to handle is the “five month sleep regression”. This term might seem alarming, especially if you’re a new parent, but understanding what it is and how to navigate it can significantly ease your worries.
What Is The 5 Month Sleep Regression?
Sleep regression refers to a period when a baby who has been sleeping well suddenly starts waking up frequently during the night and has shorter naps during the day. The “5 month old sleep regression” specifically refers to this phase when it happens around the baby’s fifth month. Babies go through several sleep regressions in the first two years of their life. While each baby is unique and may not follow a strict timeline, the most common sleep regression periods occur around 4 months, 8-10 months, and 18 months to 2 years of age.
Can Sleep Regression Happen At 5 Month?
Yes, sleep regression can happen at five months, although it’s important to note that not all babies will experience it. Some may go through this phase earlier, at three or four months, while others might experience it later. However, the five-month mark is often a time of significant developmental changes for your baby. These changes can disrupt their previously established sleeping patterns, leading to what is referred to as “five month old sleep regression”.
What Are the Causes of 5 Month Sleep Regression?
Several factors can contribute to the occurrence of a 5 month sleep regression:
1. Physical Growth: Rapid growth and physical development can cause discomfort and disrupt a baby’s sleep. Teething, for instance, can start around this age and might cause sleep interruptions due to discomfort.
2. Developmental Milestones: At around five months, babies become more aware of their surroundings and start developing abilities like rolling over, sitting up, and maybe even starting to crawl. These exciting developmental leaps can cause them to wake more frequently.
3. Changes in Sleep Cycle: As babies grow, their sleep patterns begin to resemble those of adults. This means they start cycling between deep and light sleep. This can cause them to wake up more frequently, particularly if they haven’t yet learned how to self-soothe and fall back to sleep independently.
4. Separation Anxiety: Around this age, babies begin to understand object permanence – the concept that things still exist even when they’re out of sight. This can lead to separation anxiety, especially when they wake up and find you’re not there.
5. Changes in Routine or Environment: Any major changes in a baby’s routine or environment can also lead to disruptions in their sleep. This could be anything from travelling to starting daycare or moving to a new home.
Signs of 5 Month Sleep Regression
Identifying a sleep regression can be a bit tricky, as it can sometimes be confused with other issues like illness or teething. However, here are six signs you can look out for:
1. Frequent Night Waking: If your baby, who once slept soundly through the night, starts waking up frequently, it could be a sign of sleep regression.
2. Resisting Naptime: Difficulty falling asleep for naps, short naps, or skipping naps altogether are other signs.
3. Increased Fussiness: A baby undergoing sleep regression might be more irritable or fussy, especially during the times when they should be sleeping.
4. Changes in Appetite: Some babies might eat more due to increased periods of wakefulness. Others might have descreased appetite.
5. Clinginess: Due to potential separation anxiety, babies might become more clingy during a sleep regression.
6. Practicing New Skills: If your baby is using their wake time to practice new skills like rolling over or sitting up, they’re likely experiencing a sleep regression.
How Long Does 5 Month Sleep Regression Last?
The duration of a sleep regression can vary greatly from one baby to another. Typically, sleep regression periods last between two to six weeks. Remember, this phase is a temporary one, although it may not feel like it when you’re in the midst of it!
How Can You Manage 5 Month Sleep Regression In Your Baby?
While sleep regression can be challenging, there are strategies you can use to help your baby through this phase:
1. Establish a Sleep Routine
A consistent bedtime routine can signal to your baby that it’s time to sleep. This routine can include activities such as bathing, reading a book, or singing lullabies.
2. Encourage Independent Sleeping
Gradually teach your baby to fall asleep on their own. This can help them self-soothe and go back to sleep if they wake up during the night.
3. Make the Environment Sleep-Friendly
Ensure the baby’s room is dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature. Using a white noise machine can also help promote better sleep.
4. Feed Your Baby Before Sleep
A full tummy can help your baby sleep longer stretches. However, avoid creating a sleep association where your baby needs to feed to fall asleep.
5. Offer Comfort
If your baby is experiencing separation anxiety, offer comfort but try to avoid creating new sleep associations or habits that you’ll have to break later.
6. Be Patient
Remember, this phase is temporary and part of your baby’s natural development. Be patient with your baby and yourself.
7. Take Care of Yourself
Parenting a baby going through sleep regression can be exhausting. Don’t forget to take care of your own needs and rest when you can.
8. Seek Professional Advice
If you’re struggling to manage your baby’s sleep regression, don’t hesitate to seek advice from a paediatrician or a sleep consultant.
When to Call A Doctor?
While the 5 month sleep regression is usually a normal part of a baby’s development, you should reach out to a healthcare professional if you notice any of the following:
Your baby is excessively irritable and nothing seems to soothe them.
There’s a drastic change in their feeding habits or weight.
Your baby has difficulty breathing, high fever, or shows signs of illness.
Sleep problems persist beyond six weeks or are causing significant distress.
FAQs
1. How Much Should 5 Month Old Baby Sleep?
At five months, a baby typically needs about 12 to 15 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. This usually includes two to three daytime naps totalling three to four hours, with the rest of the sleep occurring during the night.
2. How I Can Get My 5 Month Old To Sleep Through The Night?
Establishing a consistent bedtime routine and encouraging independent sleeping can help your 5 month old sleep through the night. Additionally, making sure they’re getting enough to eat during the day and the room conditions are optimal for sleep can also help. Remember, every baby is different, and what works for one may not work for another. If you’re struggling, don’t hesitate to seek professional advice.
In conclusion, while dealing with a five month old sleep regression can be a challenging time for parents, understanding its causes and signs, and knowing how to navigate through it, can make this phase more manageable. Remember, it’s a temporary stage in your baby’s development and a sign that they’re growing and learning new skills. With patience, consistency, and a few helpful strategies, both you and your baby will be able to get the rest you need.

A. Nasal blockage is very common, specially in small children because of the narrow nasal cavity. Any kind of saline drops like nasal clear will be helpful in dissolving the stuffy secretions, which can be taken out by vnasal aspirator gently also steam inhalation will be helpful also, try to avoid keeping the child directly under the fan.
