25 Surprising & Interesting Pregnancy Facts
One of the most fascinating experiences a woman can go through is pregnancy. Imagine a new life growing inside you, breathing the air that you breathe and drawing nutrition from the food you eat. But there are many more surprising and weird things happening during pregnancy and the subsequent delivery, that even experienced mothers are not aware of.
Amongst one of the most amazing facts about pregnancy, this one surely ranks pretty high. Your unborn baby in your womb can see, hear and feel all that is going around it. You can talk to your baby and even stroke your belly to give it a similar feeling.
You should be careful about what you eat during pregnancy since babies can taste your feed. This is probably why doctors ask mothers to be vigilant about their diet. Strong flavours like onion and garlic can be passed to the womb through the amniotic fluid.
Pregnant women and new mothers can lactate automatically when they hear babies cry. It can even happen if the baby does not belong to them.
Your uterus is capable of handling extreme pressure. The force generated in the uterus due to pushing translates into about 397 pounds per square foot on the baby’s head. That’s amazing.
The first time a woman delivers her child, her pelvic bone separates in the middle as the cartilage stretches to its maximum. Although the bone does not break, it doesn’t go back to its original position ever.
Although sex during pregnancy is supposed to be free of risk, a woman can get pregnant while she is already pregnant. On rare occasions, a woman can carry two babies with two different due dates.
You will be familiar with that dark line known as linea nigrea which appears out of nowhere in the middle of the stomach during pregnancy. This line was always there but the pigmentation because of hormonal changes makes it visible.
After you enter the second trimester, your baby releases about a litre of urine every day. If you are wondering where all this urine goes, well, the baby drinks it. Weird! And you thought you had to visit the bathroom so many times.
Increased blood flow in that pregnant body, by almost 50% and overactive oil glands are responsible for the glow and the soft, shiny look. However, this enhanced blood flow can cause your gums to bleed and lead to bloody noses too.
You know that your body produces large amounts of oestrogen during pregnancy. But did you know that the placenta produces more oestrogen in one day than a woman could produce in three years?
A normal pregnancy lasts for approximately nine months. However, it is possible to remain pregnant for over a year. The record for the longest pregnancy is 375 days, way back in 1945. Modern mothers are induced as soon as they are a few days overdue.
Baby faeces are known as meconium. This is made by the 21st week of your pregnancy, but it won’t pass until after the baby’s birth.
Contractions are common during pregnancy, but they do not stop even after the baby is born. They continue for a few days after delivery and helps the mother’s body in stopping excessive blood loss.
The first woman to survive a C-section was during the 16th century in Switzerland. Her husband who was a pig castrator by profession performed this operation on his wife.
Pica is a peculiar disorder that affects pregnant women in which they crave for non-food items like paper, hair, ice, paint, metal and glass. The word Pica is Latin for magpie the bird, who is known to eat anything.
Carrying a baby high or low is considered to be one of the facts about pregnancy gender, but it is just a myth since it is more related to your body type, uterus structure and abdominal muscle strength.
A woman’s uterus can expand to nearly 500 times of its normal size during pregnancy.
A pregnant woman develops a completely new organ in her body, known as the placenta and is the only transient organ in the human body. It releases hormones like oestrogen, progesterone and hCG while acting as a protective barrier.
When a pregnant woman’s partner experiences symptoms like weight gain, morning sickness and growth hormone levels, it is known as Couvade syndrome or sympathetic pregnancy.
During the Middle Ages, childbirth was considered fatal which is why women often wrote their wills as soon as they realised they were pregnant.
Rarely, women suffer from “Pregnancy Denial” when women refuse to acknowledge they are pregnant. They ignore all the pregnancy symptoms that they experience.
The world’s highest fertility rate is 6.76 children per woman in Niger, and lowest is 0.86 in Singapore.
In 1591, a woman called Eufame was burnt alive because she asked for pain relief while giving birth to her twins. Religious leaders thought that God wanted women to feel pain for Eve’s act in the Garden of Eden.
One of the baby boy pregnancy myths says that if a woman craves for salty foods like chips and pickles, she is likely to give birth to a male child.
Male seahorses are the only species in the animal world to become pregnant and develop embryos like female mammals.
There are quite a few mysteries and myths surrounding pregnancy and childbirth but with growing awareness and knowledge, it is easier to dispel them. As a modern mom, you should check the facts and verify the truth before acting on them.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BjiMyc5jzzZ/?utm_source=ig_embed
Priyanka's fashion tips for day wear is pretty simple. Just go for a tee-shirt teamed with a pair of skinny jeans and a pair of sneakers or funky flip-flops. If you are going out for a lunch date with someone special, instead of jeans and a t-shirt, opt for cotton dresses. Add a finishing touch to your ensemble with a sleek belt, strappy footwear, and some subtle bracelets. You'll also see her experiment with prints and patterns, but mostly solid colours when it comes to her outfits.
2. Night-out Fashion

https://www.instagram.com/p/BPB1gW_jRxH/?utm_source=ig_embed
If you really want to adopt Priyanka Chopra's dressing style, then for an evening or night out, opt for a short dress that fits you perfectly. If you notice carefully, you will mostly find her looking ravishing in a short and fitted dress for interviews and parties. Occasionally, she wears gowns too. Her recent appearances at public events have made jaws drop; whether it's this year's Met Gala outfit, where she stayed true to the theme, or the ethereal white gown at the Oscars in 2016, her outfits are memorable, to say the least! Pick up a stellar piece that's classic with a modern twist, and watch those heads turn in your direction!
3. Six Yards of Fashion
Priyanka Chopra wears sarees and anarkalis quite often. Mostly, you will see her in sheer sarees paired with metallic blouses. For Priyanka's style saree draping, settle in for a subtle and revealing drape. See to it that your blouse has a plunging neckline and is everything sexy. It'll definitely add to your sensuality and “oomph” factor. But if that's not your style, fret not; you can pick great conventional blouses, which are full or quarter-sleeved, and work with those too! To look as graceful as her in a saree, remember to put on large earrings and multiple bangles, they will give you that complete saree look you deserve.
4. Risk-taker
You'll occasionally see her flaunting a totally unconventional design or pattern or a style of outfit, that's just so bold - but then see her kill it with her confidence! Case in point - her Met Gala outfit from 2017 that served as fodder for plenty of memes as well! But the jetsetter took it in her stride and her look definitely shot her up to the top of the 'Best-Dressed' lists. It just goes to show, that a little risk could take you quite a long way! Take a step outside your comfort zone once in a while - start with tiny steps, such as a change from regular jeans to distressed ones, or a risque collar; who knows, you may have just found yourself a new trademark look!
5. Accessorise, Accessorise, Accessorise
For making that impressionable Priyanka Chopra style statement, pay adequate attention to your accessories. You'll seldom notice her without her sunnies and a statement ring or necklace. To sport the celebrity look, try the Ray-Ban aviators with your casual day wear. For example, a designer watch, a huge ring, or some silver bangles, will add that final touch to your look too.
6. Invest in a Statement Piece...
PC's Instagram feed will show you that some wardrobe staples can bring various looks together. The weather conditions in NYC cannot really be compared to that of India's, but who doesn't love a smart jacket that can tie your look together! You'll see her sporting an array of styles - denim, trenchcoats, structured, printed, solid! While Indian weather doesn't really call for a warm and fuzzy jacket all year around, a sturdy jacket adds a touch of class and oomph to your casual outfit; and if the air-conditioning in your office is a bit too cruel, here's the stylish (yet useful) piece you need!
7. ...and the Right Shoes!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BBLdzjNJs0g/?utm_source=ig_embed
Have you seen the shoes that Priyanka rocks even with her most casual outfits - they instantly boost the aesthetic appeal of her looks! 'Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world' - Marilyn Monroe has spoken the truth! It's no coincidence that we feel a surge of confidence when we have on our favourite pair of heels. The right shoes can make or break your outfit - so make sure you have a bunch of amazing options to hold on to. A pair of flats or sandals that go with anything, and any pair of dressy options for more formal outfits, and you're good to go!
8. Keep Up With the Trends

Baby Gear Items Worth Investing for a Happy and Comfortable Baby
It's true that on arrival of your newborn you will be overwhelmed to purchase many baby gear items which you might think will be needed for your baby by looking at other babies. But let me tell you good news is every baby is different and so is his or her needs. One baby might love to use stroller while the other would always love to be in parents hand. So it's up to you to see your baby's need pattern and age and accordingly decide what best fits your little one. You can give a try and see how your little one reacts. But it's true investing in this product is expensive so proper analysis needs to be done for the same
Things I Found Wworked for My Baby and It's Worth It
1. Playpen
I never purchased a Cradle for my baby as I found it's useful only for the first three months and in those months we prefer our baby to sleep next to us. Even I did the same. After 4 months I started to put her in playpen slowly as I found her to be safe as rollover period was also nearing so the danger of letting baby sleep on bed and hurting gets avoided. Playpen should have a firm mattress and bed sheet. I purchased both from first cry and got them at a very good price. During daytime you can put toys around the playpen and let baby play.
2. Car Seat 3 in 1
Rocker carrier and car seat. This product is ideal for a newborn to 2.5 years. I'm using it since my baby's arrival from hospital to home it's very convenient easy to use and a must buy. It's also a safe option for long distance travel
3. Car Bed
This works well if you got to travel long distance. You can put toys around the bed and lie down comfortably along with your baby. You can even use it for feeding your little one.

Handling Preschoolers with Fussy Eating Habits
If your kid refuses to try new foods most of the times, he is becoming a fussy eater. This has nothing to do with his temperament. According to a study, kids take time to adjust to new tastes and dishes that are presented to them.
The strange textures and flavors can be troubling for them, and therefore they are resistant to trying new foods. In such situations, resorting to fast food to keep his stomach full is not a good idea. It is important to establish healthy eating patterns for your child to avoid problems such as obesity or eating disorders later in life.
Parents often find it difficult to deal with fussy eaters and end up losing their temper or getting frustrated. Force feeding or unhealthy snacking does not help either. Therefore, it is vital to introduce lumpy foods as early as possible and get them acquainted with new foods in a friendly manner. Children are the best judge of their hunger and fullness signals, so don’t force them to eat.
Be calm and concentrate on making meal times fun for your kid by engaging him. One important thing to remember is that you must not threaten them or yell at them. If you do so, they will be fussier. Also, don’t bribe them as it will spoil them and make them act fussy every time they sit to eat.
Tips for Parents of Fussy Eaters
Here are some tips for the parents for handling fussy eaters.
Let them eat the same food as the rest of the family. Eat meals together.
Give them small portions of new dishes and praise them for eating it, even if they only eat one or two bites.
If they reject the food, don’t force them to eat it. Just take the food away.
Don’t let them leave the meals until they have finished it all. Again, don’t force them, instead encourage them to eat properly.
Your kid might be a slow eater, try and stay calm.
Avoid giving too many snacks between the meals. Limit it to a glass of milk and some fruit slices or some other healthy snack.
Learn about their eating habits and make sure they get the appropriate amount of nutrition.
Sit and chat with them. Make mealtimes an enjoyable experience. It should not be just a race to finish.
Children’s tastes change frequently. One day they will hate something, the other day they will be enjoying it. So be patient.
