Home Remedies to Remove White Patches on The Face of Babies and Kids
White patches on the skin are a common problem among children. However, there is no reason to be alarmed about this, as many of the issues that cause the patches can be fixed easily. There are many misconceptions about the white patches that appear on a child’s face. Here is all you need to know about them.
What are The Common Causes of White Patches on a Child’s Face?
1. Vitamin Deficiency
This is a very common reason for the appearance of the white patches on the face of many children. We all know that a balanced and healthy diet is essential and that many kids refuse to eat properly. This will result in many deficiencies, and vitamin deficiency is one of them.
The vitamin that is responsible for the production of melanin is vitamin B12. Deficiency in this vitamin can lead to white spots. They might appear not only on the face but anywhere on the body especially the forearms. A very high deficiency might lead to itching and further lightening. The skin might also turn red or pink in some cases.
Providing the child with a healthy and a balanced diet is the best way to treat these spots after you consult a doctor.
Zinc and calcium deficiency could also lead to this problem.
2. Birthmarks
There are many cases where these spots on the child’s face turned out to be birthmarks. If such is the case, then there is no need to worry.
3. Tinea Versicolour
Tinea versicolour/ Pityriasis versicolour is a fungal infection caused by Malassezia. The way this fungus affects the children is by producing an acid that will interfere with the melanin production inside the body.
When this happens, the patches could either be lighter/ darker than the usual skin colour of the kid. At times, they are itchy and scaly too. They appear mostly on the torso and shoulders but might also be seen on the neck, face, and the stomach.
People who live in a humid or hot climate are affected more. Exposure to the sun can make the patches more pronounced since they are not prone to tanning. All you need to improve this condition is to make sure the kid does not have any immunity problems and consume a well-balanced diet.
The lack of hygiene is also known to cause this problem.
4. Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a skin condition that scares many parents though they are harmless. The white patches on the skin are caused due to the loss of pigmentation. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder. This means that your body attacks its melanocytes. The cells that produce melanin are called melanocytes.
These spots are usually seen on the parts of the body that are exposed to sunlight but may also affect any other part of the body. The condition is more noticeable in children with a darker complexion though it can affect kids of various skin types. Vitiligo is not contagious, so there is no need to worry. Why this condition scares people is due to the way the patches look. The appearance, along with the lack of knowledge about the disease causes a stigma.
5. Spots Caused to Injury/Burns
Many times, trauma to a particular part of the skin can cause a lack of pigmentation or a delayed pigmentation at the site of the injury.
6. Worm Infection
This reason is a bit questionable. Some people claim the white patches are due to worms in the stomach. Though this reason is not sure, you can still deworm your kids once in a while.
How to Get Rid of White Spots on Your Child’s Face at Home?
Here are some home remedies for white patches on face of a child.
A broad spectrum sunscreen can be applied on the face before the child goes outside
Ensure that your kid eats a lot of vegetables and fruits
Although it is not sure that worms cause patches, there is no harm in deworming the child. You can do this every six months
Many paediatricians advise using non-perfume and non-dye emollients. This will prevent dry skin which might sometimes lead to Pityriasis Alba
In case the white patches are due to a fungal infection, then you can use antifungal creams which will work against the infection
How to Treat White Spots That are Caused due to Pityriasis Alba?
When the causes are not known it is hard to prevent them. You can make sure your kid eats healthy fruits and vegetables. You could also do this
1. Use Sunscreen
Make sure that your child goes out having applied a broad spectrum of sunscreen. This will help to prevent any sun damage and will protect your child.
2. Use Non-scented Emollients or Moisturisers
The patches that appear are sensitive when compared to the skin around it. This is why it is better to use moisturisers that are not filled with artificial fragrance or chemicals. Your paediatrician will know the best moisturiser you could use on your child.
When to Consult a doctor?
Any of the reasons mentioned above could be a reason for the appearance of white patches. Though most of them are harmless, at times, they could also be dangerous. So the best thing to do is check with a doctor for a proper conclusion.
Apart from that, do consult a doctor if you see any of these symptoms accompanied by the patches.
Severe itching
An alteration in the colour of the spots (usually to red)
Loss of sensitivity on that area of skin
How to Help A Child with White Patches so That It Doesn’t Affect His Self Confidence?
Little children do not care about the way they look. But when they grow older, their self-awareness increases. This condition might hit their self-confidence.
If your kid has been affected by this condition and if they cannot be treated, the parents will have to help the child cope.
Here are some points you should keep in mind
Start by talking to them and make sure that they are comfortable about the way they look
If you feel like you cannot help them, then you can think about counselling
Ensure that they are comfortable enough to talk about stuff to you. This way, you can find out if somebody is bullying your child due to his/her appearance
If required, you can inform your kid’s teachers
To get rid of any misconceptions, educate their friends
If none of these points seems to work, you can always try using cosmetics to hide the spots on the face
White spots on a child’s face are more common than people think. Various reasons cause this, and most of them can be cured.

Life Insurance - Importance and Types
Getting life insurance is one of the best financial decisions a person could make, but only ten percent of Indians know the significance of getting life insurance. If the members of a family are financially dependent on one person of the family, their ability to pay debts, manage household expenses, and maintain a standard of living can get affected in case of unfortunate demise of the insured person, which is why taking life insurance becomes important. Life insurance can secure the financial future of the insured's family.
What is Life Insurance?
Life insurance is a contract between an insurance policy holder and the insurance provider (known as the insurer) that guarantees to pay the designated amount to the beneficiary in case of the death of the insured person. In exchange for premium payments, the beneficiary named in the contract will receive a sum from the insurer in case of sudden demise of the policyholder.
Reasons Why Life Insurance Is Important
Most people are unaware of the importance of life insurance. Here are some reasons why you must consider taking life insurance -
1. It Can Help You Deal with Debts
In case of a crisis, you would not want your family to deal with financial problems. If you buy the right life insurance policy, then any outstanding debts like a car loan, home loan, and other personal loans will be taken care of.
2. Your Family Will Be Taken Care Of
Nobody wants their family to face any financial problem if something were to happen to them. If something were to happen to you, you wouldn't want to let your family depend on someone else. Whether it is paying for the education of your child or making sure your spouse is financially secure, life insurance can secure your family's financial future.
3. Life Insurance Can Supplement Your Retirement Goals
We all want our retirement savings to last, don't we? And they will if you invest in a good insurance plan. With the right life insurance plan, you can get a regular stream of money every month. This idea is like a pension plan - you can get a steady income every month after your retirement.
4. It Can Help You Achieve Your Long Term Goals
Taking a life insurance policy is a long-term investment, which can help you achieve long-term goals. You can buy a house or plan your retirement. Before buying any policy, consider your options. Select the one you think would help you meet your long term goals.
5. It Can Save Your Business
Life insurance can not only protect your family, but also your business. There are some policies that can take care of your business. If you have a business of your own, and unfortunately something happens to you, then your portion of the business can be purchased by your partner. These business partners will enter a buy-sell agreement. Here, the payout will go to your nominees; however, they won't be given a stake in the company.
6. It Is Good for Tax Benefits
Irrespective of what plan you buy, you could save taxes with insurance policies. As per Section 80C of the Income Tax Act, 1961, the premium paid for life insurance policies is qualified for deduction, up to a maximum of Rs. 1.5 lakh a year. Also, the maturity/death benefit is tax-free as per Section 10 (10D) of the Income Tax Act.
7. You Might Not be Qualified for it Later
Life insurance policies always run on uncertainties. You may be healthy now and paying for life insurance may seem like an added financial burden. But if something happens to you all of sudden and on getting better, you'd realise that you should take a life insurance policy; however, at that time, you may not be allowed to buy a policy. This is why it is best to buy one policy as early as you can because it will still remain in force even if you start having health problems.
8. A Tool for Forced Savings
If you choose a traditional or unit-linked policy, the premium you will pay every month will be higher than the cost that is required to insure you. This extra money that you pay gets invested. You can choose to sell or draw income from it or borrow the cash against the policy.
Types of Life Insurance Policies in India
There are six types of life insurance policies.
1. Term Life Insurance
Term life insurance policy can be purchased only for a fixed period of time like 10 or 20 years. It is a type of life insurance that provides death benefits to the beneficiaries if the insured person dies during a specific time. A term life insurance policy does not offer any maturity benefits as it does not have any cash value but it is the most affordable type of life insurance policies.
2. Endowment Policy
The only difference between this policy and the term insurance policy is that this policy comes with an extra benefit. The policyholder will receive an amount in lump sum if nothing happens to him until the date of maturity. If the insured person dies during the term of the policy, the nominee will receive the assured sum.
3. Unit-linked Insurance Plan
In addition to life security, this plan allows the policyholder to build wealth. As per this plan, the premium paid is divided and invested in debt funds and equity - one for building wealth and the other for life insurance.
4. Money Back Policy
In a money back policy, the insured person receives a stipulated sum during the policy tenure. By taking this policy, you will receive a percentage of the assured sum at regular intervals. And if you live beyond the policy term, you will be eligible for the remaining amount plus bonus at the end of the policy period.
5. Whole Life Policy
This policy provides coverage to the insured person throughout his lifetime, unlike all the other policies which expire after their term. The policy also provides a survival benefit to the policyholder. This policy allows the policyholder to partially withdraw the sum insured.
6. Annuity/Pension Plan
In this policy, the amount collected is accumulated as assets, which is distributed to the policyholder in a lump sum or in the form of annuity depending on the instructions of the insured.
Filing for a Death Claim Under a Life Insurance Policy
Find out how you can make a life insurance death claim.
The beneficiary must send a claim intimation form to the insurance company.
The claim intimation form should contain details like place, date, and cause of death of the insured person.
When you submit the form, the insurance company will ask for additional information like the certificate of death, a copy of insurance policy, deeds of assignment, and legal evidence of title in case the insured did not appoint a beneficiary.
Once all the necessary documents are submitted, the insurance company verify the claim and settle it.
What Are the Major Insurance Principles Applied in India?
Life insurance operates on some basic principles that are common for many individuals. These principles are mentioned below:
1. The Principle of Insurable Interest
This principle is related to a level of interest the person is expected to have in that certain policy. Based on this level, the company chooses to reject or accept the application to avoid the misuse of policy.
2. The Principle of Good Faith
As per this principle both the parties should have faith in each other. You must disclose all the relevant information to the insurance company. The insurance company must also explain all the aspects of the policy and make sure there are no hidden clauses.
3. Nature of Contract
A fundamental principle of an insurance contract is the nature of a contract. This contract comes into existence when a party accepts the offer or proposal of a contract made by the other party. It must be a valid contract and the person should enter with his free consent.
4. Law of Large Numbers
This theory makes sure you have minimum losses and long-term stability in the long run when a large amount of money is involved.
5. Risks and Minimal Losses
This principle states that the individual is expected to take certain actions to limit any hazards. This includes a healthy lifestyle, going for a regular check-up, etc.
6. Principle of Contribution
When more than one policy is taken to cover the same risk, it is known as double insurance. As per this principle, all the insurers contribute the actual amount of losses as per the amount assured by each of them. When the insurer’s financial position is doubtful, the double insurance policy is adopted.
7. Principle of Subrogation
This principle allows the insured to claim the amount from the party who is responsible for the loss. The insurer can take legal actions to recover his loss. For example, due to reckless driving of the third party, if you get injured then the insurance company will sue the third party to recover the money and will also compensate for your loss.
Important Points to Consider While Buying a Life Insurance Policy
Here are some points you should consider when planning to get life insurance.
1. Research
There are so many policies to choose from. It is best that you research before coming to a conclusion as it might help you save some money and receive maximum benefits.
2. Read the Terms and Conditions
Read the terms and conditions of the policy. The contract will contain all the relevant information regarding the policy. Ensure that you read it in detail and completely understand it.
3. Remember the Lock-in Period
Some insurance companies offer a lock-in time frame where the policyholder can return that policy and buy another one. This is for a short time, usually 15 days, so if you are not convinced the policy you purchased, you can return it in that time.
4. Consider Premium Payment Options
It is essential that you go for electronic check system payment. Through this, the premium amount will be debited from your account periodically and will save you time.
5. Do Not Mask Information
Whenever you decide to buy a life insurance policy, present your medical records and personal credentials to the company. Disclose all the relevant information to the insurance company.
The advantages of buying a life insurance policy are many. We can never predict what our tomorrow will be like, but we can always be prepared for any unforeseen situation. Life insurance is a financial cushion that can protect your family in bad times. So, give it a good thought and buy a life insurance policy soon.

Overcome Your Miscarriage Fears
It is said that with pregnancy, a woman completes all her roles. The ability to give birth to a child is a special and life-changing experience. Unfortunately, due to certain unforeseen factors, some pregnancies terminate spontaneously.
Sometimes, a pregnancy can go awfully wrong. When this occurs, it is called a miscarriage. Approximately 15% of known pregnancies conclude with a miscarriage. In a majority of these cases, 80% of them occur in the first trimester and are least likely to occur past the 20th week mark.
What is a Miscarriage
A miscarriage is a medical condition that is termed spontaneous abortion. However, it is not an abortion, as it is commonly understood. It is the loss of an unborn baby, which occurs prior to the 20th week of gestation. If the miscarriage occurs past the 20th week of gestation, then it's called a late miscarriage. This type occurs in very rare circumstances.
There are some common symptoms women experience while having a miscarriage. These are:
Severe abdominal pain
Cramping
Bleeding that systematically progresses to heavy
Passing of tissue
Fever
If you are pregnant and experience such symptoms, please contact your obstetrician/gynecologist immediately or visit your local emergency room.
Currently, the actual cause of miscarriage is not completely understood. Miscarriages that occur in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy are usually caused by chromosomal abnormalities within the infant. Chromosomes are minute cellular structures, which carry the body’s genetic information. Genes are responsible for determining an infant’s physical attributes such as hair and eye colour, gender and blood type. These chromosomal problems are a chance occurrence and are unrelated to the parents’ health.
In some cases, miscarriages may also occur due to the following factors:
Hormonal problems
Uterine bleeding
Infection.
Exposure to workplace or environmental hazards such as toxic agents or radiation
Kidney disease
Incompetent cervix
Lifestyle choices such as drinking alcohol, smoking, consuming drugs
Radiation
Thyroid disease
Congenital heart disease
Medications such as Accutane
Severe malnutrition
Uncontrolled diabetes
Currently, there is no evidence, which suggests that sexual or physical activity leads to a miscarriage.
How Are Miscarriages Diagnosed And Treated
Your obstetrician/gynecologist will request for an ultrasound test and also perform a pelvic exam to confirm that a miscarriage has occurred. If the uterus has cleared, no treatment is required. Sometimes, the uterus does not completely empty out, in which case dilation and curettage is performed. In this procedure, dilation is induced and any placental or fetal tissue left behind is removed. Medications may be administered as an alternative dilation to perform the same procedure.
What Are Some Ways To Avoid Miscarriage
In most cases, the miscarriage cannot be prevented because the cause is difficult to determine. However, most women can lower their risk of a miscarriage by taking the following precautionary measures:
Not smoking while expecting
Not consuming illegal drugs or alcohol while pregnant
Eating a well-balanced and healthy diet which includes at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables
Preventing certain infections such as rubella
Being at a healthy weight before becoming pregnant
Your Weight And Preventing Miscarriage
Women who have a body mass index (BMI) of more than 30 are at an increased risk of miscarrying. The best method of protecting your health and that of your unborn child is loose the excess weight BEFORE becoming pregnant. A healthy weight is the best to reduce your risk of miscarrying. Even during pregnancy, it is absolutely vital that you maintain some level of activity just as swimming or walking. Perform all exercises only after consulting with your physician.
Learning that you are expecting can be an elating experience but then finding out a few weeks later that you have miscarried can throw you into an emotional tailspin. For many women, dealing with a miscarriage often sends them into depression. Some develop a fear of miscarriage and feel they won't be able to carry a baby to term. Others may feel inadequate and feel a deep sense of loss. It is at this time that women need a lot of support and comfort from their family and friends. Speaking to a doctor about getting pregnant again and how to avoid miscarriage in the future can also help. Read more

Is Pregnancy Possible After Endometrial Ablation?
As per statistics, the chances of getting pregnant after undergoing an endometrial ablation is less than 1%. If you want to get pregnant later, you should not consider endometrial ablation as this procedure would make it harder for you to conceive. Women who undergo endometrial ablation are suggested to use birth control precautions after menopause. You may also consider “Sterilization” as a further treatment for prevention of pregnancy after an ablation procedure.
Endometrial Ablation - What Is It and Why It Is Done?
The procedure of removal of a very thin layer of lining from the uterus is known as endometrial ablation. Women experiencing bleeding in between their menstrual period cycles, a heavy flow, or periods that last for more than a week may be suggested to undergo an endometrial ablation in case oral medications don’t give relief.
What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy Post Endometrial Ablation
Pregnancy is not likely after undergoing an endometrial ablation, but it can still happen. Many women have reportedly had a successful pregnancy after endometrial ablation, but they also come with a lot of risks associated with them. If you become pregnant after getting this procedure done, you are at high risk of suffering a miscarriage. Women who prefer to get pregnant later should never undergo this ablation procedure. Can you get pregnant after an ablation and tubal litigation? Yes, you can, as tubal litigation is not a 100% guarantee to contraception. In this case, the chances are that you might suffer an ectopic pregnancy in which the eggs get attached to the fallopian tubes instead of the uterus.
Effects of Endometrial Ablation Procedure On Pregnancy
Endometrial ablation removes most of the endometrial tissue from the uterus. The lining left after the procedure is not adequate for the implantation of the foetus and its consequent nourishment needs. Due to this reason, a woman cannot conceive after she undergoes endometrial ablation.
Pregnancy Risks And Complications After Endometrial Ablation
Every procedure comes with a certain amount of risk associated with it. Women who undergo endometrial ablation should know the following risks and complications they might face during and after the procedure:
1. Risk of perforations
The tool that the doctor uses for your ablation could puncture your uterus or harm nearby organs.
2. Foul Smelling Discharge
If you notice any bad odour from your vaginal discharge you should immediately consult a doctor.
3. Fever
Some of the women who undergo endometrial ablation experience fever after the procedure.
4. Chills
Few women have also reported having chills after their ablation procedure.
5. Infection
This is a very common risk that is associated with an endometrial ablation procedure.
6. Heavy Bleeding
You may experience heavy to intense bleeding after this procedure. If you are not feeling well or experience giddiness, please reach out to your physician immediately.
7. Intense Cramping
Sometimes after undergoing endometrial ablation procedure, some women have complained of excruciating stomach pains or cramping of the lower abdomen.
8. Continual Bleeding
A small percentage of women experience continuous bleeding which can last for more than two days after the procedure.
9. Nausea
Some women have experienced nausea in the first few hours of the endometrial ablation procedure.
10. Trouble Passing Urine
There can be an urge to pee for the first 24 hours of the procedure.
11. Risk of Burns
There are various methods to perform endometrial ablation. In some of the procedures, there are chances of burn injuries to the vaginal areas and bowel.
12. Fluid Absorption in the Body
The fluid that is used in the expansion of your uterus during the process of electrosurgery might result in getting absorbed into your bloodstream. Though this happens in the rarest of rare cases, this can be a very dire condition. To prevent this from happening, the fluid used is carefully monitored throughout the procedure.
Things To Consider If You Get Pregnant After Endometrial Ablation
Although pregnancy after undergoing endometrial ablation is very rare, it does happen sometimes. These pregnancies have a certain amount of risk associated with them. If you are pregnant after undergoing the endometrial ablation procedure, you should consult your doctor for an evaluation of placental adherence and your subsequent delivery. Below are some facts that would provide you with insights on what things you should consider if you get pregnant after the ablation procedure:
1. Premature Delivery
The birth of the baby may take place more than three weeks before the baby’s estimated due date, often resulting in complicated medical problems.
2. Uterine Rupture
The endometrial ablation procedure raises the risk of uterine rupture in pregnant women who have previously undergone the ablation procedure. This may result in compromising the maternal and foetal life.
3. Caesarean Delivery and Caesarean Hysterectomy
You may have to undergo two simultaneous operations. A) Caesarean delivery and b) Caesarean Hysterectomy: This procedure is the removal of the uterus at the time of caesarean delivery.
4. Perinatal Mortality
Preterm birth is the most common cause of perinatal mortality leading to almost 30% of the neonatal deaths.
5. Morbidly Adherent Placentation
In the rarest of rare cases some of the pregnancies result in morbidly adherent placentation in which the placenta grows too deeply into the uterus walls and is unable to detach during childbirth.
Endometrial ablation procedure is used for treating women who experience heavy and prolonged bleeding time during their menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle cannot go away completely, but it can be made normal or lighter with this procedure. Women who want to conceive later in their life should not consider this procedure as this makes pregnancy very difficult. To reduce the chances of pregnancy, it is advisable for you to undergo a sterilisation process after endometrial ablation is done, along with using the usual birth control measures.
