7 Home Remedies for a Pest Free Household
Keeping mosquitoes, spiders and other pests from entering your house can seem like an impossible task. They're such a common sight no matter what you do! But while a number of products have been made to get rid of them, home remedies for pest control are your safest bet.
Are you sick and tired of seeing pests in your house? Unable to keep them from eating your food and books? Chances are you’re not applying the right method to stop them from entering. Fortunately, there are easy ways to keep different pests at bay and you have all of them at home already!
7 Natural Remedies for Pest Control at Home
1. Tea Tree and Eucalyptus Oil
Mix a few drops of tea tree oil in a glass of water and spray it in your garden as well as inside the house. Pests despise the smell of eucalyptus oil so much that as long as you do this regularly, their numbers will drastically reduce! You can also wipe cupboard doors and window panes with a cotton ball soaked in eucalyptus oil.
2. Lemon and Orange
The citrus smell of fruits like oranges and lemons drives pests away. Make a spray by adding lemon juice, orange essential oils and liquid soap to a glass of water. Spray this natural pest repellent all around the house and say hello freshness!
3. Cinnamon
Grind a few cinnamon sticks and sprinkle the powder in your almirah, bookshelvess and window sills to bar the entry of pests. Cinnamon essential oil is an equally effective natural pest solution. You can immerse a cotton ball in cinnamon essential oil and wipe areas where pests are common.
4. Scented Candles
Buy scented candles or prepare them at home by mixing essential oils and melted wax. Light them near doors and windows during evening hours to keep bugs from entering. Try using oils like lavender oil, citronella oil and clove oil in candles to get homemade pest control for home.
5. Peppermint
Pick some dried mint leaves, crush them and place them across the house. It’s a natural pesticide for ants and houseflies! You can also prepare a spray by adding 10-12 drops of peppermint oil and a few drops of dish soap in one cup of water and spray it along cracks.
6. Garlic
if you don’t mind the smell of garlic, get a few fresh cloves, peel them, and place them on bookracks to repel pests. Make sure you replace them with fresh ones when they dry. You can even sprinkle garlic powder. It’s a natural pesticide for roaches and ants.
7. Flowers
Flowers such as marigold and rosemary repel mosquitoes. Citronella grass is also an effective home remedy for pest control. If the area around your home is a hotbed of annoying insects, grow these flowers in your garden. This will not only keep mosquitoes from entering your home but will also add to the charm of your outdoor space.
Using organic pest control methods, you can keep insects away without worrying about dangerous side-effects of store-bought chemicals. They may take time to work and require you to do them regularly, but they’re far safer and that’s a welcome trade-off, right? Read more

5 Fun Jumping Games for Preschoolers
Kids are filled with energy and love to jump around and play. While this certainly keeps them engaged, it also adds to the development of their gross motor skills! When you add games to the mix, the fun learning levels for the children increase manifold!
Here are some games you can try the next time your kids want to jump around the house!
1. Lilly Pads Jumping Game
The Lilly Pads jumping game can be played in groups as well as individually. Choose large objects such as place mats, hula hoops, or flat cardboard boxes, as Lilly pads. Place about eight Lilly pads on the ground in such a way that each Lilly pad should be placed one foot apart. Lilly pads are known to hold anyone on it safely above the river. Let your preschoolers jump from one Lilly pad to the next by taking turns in order, one at a time while play-pretending the Lilly pads are in water. The kid who misses jumping on to the Lilly pad and touches the ground outside the Lilly Pad is out or must start all over again.
2. Jump Rope Relay
In this game, gather some preschoolers and divide them into five to six groups. Provide each group of kids with one jump rope. Make all groups stand in a horizontal line with a specific distance of about 4-5 feet between two groups. Place the jump rope at about the distance of 30 feet in front of each group. Once you say ‘Start’, the first player of each group should run towards the jump rope, get it, do seven jumps, and return to their group. Then the second should do the same. Likewise, all players of the group should follow the jumping pattern. Whichever group finishes the first is the winner.
3. Water Splash Jump Rope
The ‘Water Splash Jump Rope’ game helps promote balanced jumping skills in your kids. To play this game, make a group of preschoolers and provide each kid one plastic cup filled full with water. Two grownups need to twirl a long jump rope and the preschoolers should attempt three consecutive jumps one by one, by holding the plastic cup full of water in their hands. While jumping, your preschoolers should try to maintain balance to not to let the water in the cup spill out. The kid having the most water left in his plastic cup is the winner.
4. Poison Balls on Trampoline Game
Introducing your preschoolers to trampoline games is a great way to hone their jumping skills. Place some balls on a trampoline. Tell preschoolers to treat balls as poison and jump on the trampoline by avoiding the balls. The balls will roll around as your kids jump on the trampoline. If any kid touches a ball on the trampoline while jumping, he is out. The preschooler who continues to jump without touching the balls and remains the last on the trampoline is the winner.
5. Jumping Game with Soft Ball
In this game, provide one small, soft ball to each preschooler. Tell all kids to hold the ball between their legs, such that it doesn’t fall down, and hop from one marked end on the ground to the other marked end to pass the ball to their team member present at the other end. If the ball held between the legs falls, that preschooler is out. Read more

Cheese-on-Toast Open Sandwich
Made with readily available things in the kitchen, this open sandwich is a convenience incarnate that would never let you down. Crispy toast with gooey cottage cheese i.e. crunch and melt combination, is something that is close to being one of the most perfect foods – with good reasons that is. First, it definitely rises above whatever ingredients we throw in. Second, minimal ingredients, zero fuss and absolutely delicious. We say, over-complicating things is just not for us!
Serves
Preparation
Cooking Time
2 People
20-25 Minutes
5-10 Minutes
Ingredients
100 g cottage cheese
2 tsps milk
4 bread toasts
1 tbsp cream, full-fat
Salt, as per taste
Veggies, for decoration
Method
Step 1
For preparing cottage cheese, squeeze one medium sized lemon in 500 ml warm milk. Keep stirring slowly for 5 minutes. Cover the vessel with a cloth and let it sit for an hour.
Step 2
After the curd seperates from the whey, pour this into a colander lined with thin muslin cloth. Let the whey drain for about 5 mins.
Step 3
Next, gather the ends of the cloth and rinse the semi-solid mass under running water. Do this for around 3-4 minutes so that the sour taste of lemon goes away.
Step 4
Now add 1 tbsp of cream, 2 tsps of milk, a pinch of salt, and mix thoroughly. Make it point to not make it very runny. It should be solid enough to stay on the toast. You can other spices at this time. Italian spices like oregano and thyme would make things more interesting.
Step 5
Now, take a spoonful of cottage cheese and spread it on the toast. If you find circular shapes in toasts, you can use the veggies to prepare the face of a fat cat as shown in the image.
Step 6
Otherwise use your imagination and conjure up these fantastic open-sandwiches.
