Easy Tips and Tricks to Clean Combs and Hair Brushes
We use combs and hair brushes on a daily basis but rarely do we clean them. Hair brushes and combs get dirty over time and need cleaning once in a while. Just as you would clean your makeup brushes, you should clean your hair brushes and combs too. And believe us, cleaning hair brushes is not much of a task. All you will need is a toothbrush and a mild cleanser of your choice.
Why Is It Necessary to Disinfect and Clean Your Comb?
Germs, oil, dust and other free radicals tend to build up and can thrive on your brushes and combs. Many of us use hair products, then brush our hair, hence these products get transferred to the brush or comb. When we don't clean the brushes or combs, the products stay in place and build up over time. And as you use those uncleaned combs and brushes on your hair, you subject your hair to a host of hair and scalp problems like dandruff, scalp infections, hair fall, which is why cleaning the hair brushes becomes important!
Stepwise Procedure to Clean a Comb
If you are thinking of cleaning your combs and hair brushes, follow these steps. They work well for all types so if you want to clean a round hair brush or clean a wide tooth comb, read on.
What You Will Need
A tub
Shampoo
Toothbrush
Towel
Toothpicks
Tea tree essential oil
Warm water
Steps
Here is a step-by-step guide to clean your combs and brushes.
1. Remove the Hair
With your hands remove the hair and dirt stuck between the bristles of the hair brushes. If there is oil on the brushes or combs, use a tissue to wipe it off.
2. Put the Brushes in the Tub
Take a tub that is big enough to fit all the brushes and combs you need to clean, and put them all inside.
3. Add Water
Fill the tub with lukewarm water until all the brushes and combs are submerged in it.
4. Cleanser
Pour some shampoo or a mild cleanser in the water and stir it well.
5. Let Them Soak
Allow your brushes and combs to sit in the soapy water for about half an hour. This will help all the grime stuck at the bottom of the bristles of the brush or between the teeth of the comb to turn soft and lose.
6. Scrub
Scrub your combs and brushes one by one. For the brushes, you will need to be as gentle as you can so that you do not damage or break the bristles.
7. Clean with a Toothpick
If there is still some dirt stuck right at the bottom, use a toothpick and gently scrub it off.
8. Rinse
Rinse all your brushes and combs well to remove all the soap.
9. Sanitise
Add a few drops of tea tree oil to the tub (after cleaning it) and add some clean water. Soak your brushes and combs for about five minutes. This step ensures that your brushes and combs are sanitised as well.
10. Let them Dry
Place your brushes face down on the towel so that all the water seeps out. Place the combs next to them and let them dry.
Additional Tips for Cleaning Combs/Hairbrushes
Here are some additional tips that you can use to clean hairbrushes:
You can disinfect and clean a plastic hairbrush or comb by dipping it in rubbing alcohol or vinegar.
If you are trying to clean a paddle hairbrush, do not use the soak method. Instead, just clean them by brushing them down with a toothbrush and do a quick rinse once a month.
Clarifying shampoo is the best cleanser to use while cleaning your hair tools since it works best at removing grime and oil that is stuck at the bottom.
As soon as you are done combing your hair, remove the hair that gets caught in the bristles or teeth.
To clean electric hair brushes, remove any stray hair stuck between the bristles, then use a damp cloth to wipe down between them.
To clean straightening or roller hair brush use a cloth and wipe down between the bristles as gently as you can. Make sure the tool is completely cooled down before you start.

4 Ways to Forget The "Why Me?" Mindset
Self-pity is said to be a form of seeking attention from others. Are you craving pity from external sources for some sort of validation for your actions? For happiness and success in life, you need to up your self-esteem.
There are times when you face certain negative challenges that life throws unexpectedly. If you have a strong mental disposition to accept them easily, you’re safe. Else, you pause and ask “why me?” Here’s one tiny piece of advice for you - STOP pitying yourself. Get around your fears, apprehensions and negative thinking patterns - it's possible!
Ways you can Help Quit the "Why Me" Mentality
1. Analyse
In order to tackle such a problem, you must first understand what the causes are and when or how these feelings get triggered off. These feelings of self-pity can stem from anything from falling sick too often to not getting that promotion. It could be anything. Once there, you need to ward off all the defeating thoughts and actions that tend to put you on the self-pity wagon.
2. Face Your Feelings
Stop hiding from your feelings. Be it disappointment, grief, or loneliness, face them head-on. Avoiding emotions that make you feel uncomfortable will not reduce your problems. At the same time, stop convincing yourself that you've suffered more than your friends, colleagues or neighbors. You'll never know what one really faces in life unless you step into their shoes.
3. Beware of Negative Thoughts
It has been observed that when you spend too much time dwelling on the things that you think are not happening right in your life, your general outlook becomes negative and pessimistic. This in turn adversely affects your behaviour with others around you. Therefore, it’s essential that you recognize when you're being exposed to such risks. Then, take proper actions to prevent yourself from living a life full of self-pity.
4. Practice Gratitude
It's time that you stopped pitying yourself and started appreciating (and being grateful for) all those things that have been meted out to you. Look into your life and instead of pining for what you don’t have, be grateful for all that you have even if it is little. Yes, in order to build up your mental strength, you need to eradicate destructive thoughts and set yourself for optimism, at the earliest.
So, get rid of your ‘victim mentality’. Start accepting your faults. Consider building up your self-esteem. It's true that all of us need appreciation from others to encourage us further in our endeavors. But striving for extra attention, all the time, will only make you feel more insecure. Believe in yourself and don’t lose hope. Read more

The Easiest Way to Warm Up Before Exercise
While you are excited about the fitness challenge and already getting into the mood for workout, don't forget a good warm up routine. It will help you stretch that much further during a workout. Diving straight into a rigorous routine can cause injury. The importance of warm up exercises is serious business!
For a power workout, you need to ensure that your muscles are loose enough to handle the rigour. Try some of these great warm up exercises before you start with the day's fitness schedule full throttle.
How to Easily Warm Up Before a Workout
1. Dynamic moves
Your pre-workout routine should be dynamic and effective. For a good warm up session, try simple body warm up exercises like the forward lunge, hand walk, arm circles or even a lateral squat. You can even try 3 sets of 15-yard linear skips. A little stretching usually does the trick.
2. Jump around
Fitness experts recommend 5 minutes of jumping rope at a slightly brisk tempo to warm up your joints. Don't feel the need to overdo it. Restraint is important. If you're running late to drop your little one to school, a jump rope session helps give your heart rate and body temperature a boost. If 5 minutes is still too much for you, start with 3 minutes and then proceed upwards. How to warm up before workout? Not that difficult, you see.
3. Turn up the tempo
A pre-workout dance session to some warm up tunes can also help you out. Such a dance routine helps set the pace for a great workout after the warm up. You can always rely on the old hits from the 1990s or opt for some of the newer R&B and hip-hop tunes for that much-needed boost. This is one of many basic warm up exercises you can definitely give a shot. Also involve your little ones in the dancing!
4. Jumping jacks
Jumping jacks help work your legs, heart and core all at once. Jump from a standing position with your arms and legs pointing outwards. This will help loosen you up for a workout session and help you sweat just a bit without working you to the bone. It's imperative you save your energy for the intense workout that follows next. This is among the best warm up exercises for abs, legs and heart.
Good warm up exercises before workout can help you get into the groove quicker. It also gives your body the time to adjust to the exertion later. Even when you're running late or not in the mood, make time for a little warm up. It will do your muscles a lot of good. You will realize the importance of warm up exercises when you find your daily goal so much more achievable!
