How I Made My Toddler Eat Everything Served on Her Plate
My daughter, two-year and one-month-old now has been eating on her own since almost a year now and she eats any type of cuisine offered to her. And I feel that self-feeding being an important milestone for my kid's development, I have genuinely achieved something. It gives me a sense of accomplishment in many ways. For one, I don't have to worry about what she will eat, how will I feed her, etc., whenever we are travelling (and we do travel a lot), so it's a big relief. I don't have to carry lots of eatables for her in my luggage ( which I still do, obviously I am a mommy, so you know). Secondly, I am intending to send her to playschool from June this year, and I might be one of the few mommies who wouldn't have to worry about whether my child had anything or not.
I really feel that I am blessed to have a child who is so fond of eating when all I see around is mothers running after their kids to make them eat. No mother in this universe would let their child go empty stomach. We are ready to do just anything to ensure that our child takes a few morsels down their throats. But trust me, if you try training your child from the beginning, it isn't impossible. Here are a few tips that worked for me and I feel would work for other mothers as well.
Start from An Early Age
I started solids for her since she was 6 months and I used to give her two servings of solids a day, one of seasonal fruit, and other of either wheat flour porridge or dal ka paani. Banana is the best choice in fruits as per availability, health quotient, and ease of feeding. Just mash it and feed, or make banana shake and give, or you can make something fancier if you feel the need, plus it generally goes well with most kids as per my knowledge. But try not to give fruits after sunset.
Let Your Child Touch and Explore the Food While Eating
This is very important for developing a sense of smell and touch in children. It also helps in developing the fine motor skills of a child as he/she coordinate their muscles to pick up food and place it in the mouth.
Feed in Small Portions
This gives you the opportunity to introduce foods of different nutrient groups at different times and also provide variation in taste, texture, and nutritional value to the child.
Adjust Your Mealtimes With Your Child's Mealtimes
Kids tend to be curious about what their parents eat, so it's a good opportunity to make them eat on their own. I haven't cooked a different or less spicy meal for my child once she crossed the dal ka paani stage. She happily eats what we eat and savours all tastes with equal zest.
Let Them Eat On Their Own and Make a Mess. Also, Appreciate Whatever Little Amount They are Able to Eat
Motivation works wonders with little angels as they are encouraged to eat more on their own and they also understand how to handle different textures of food. Appreciating makes them happy about what they are eating and they will ask for it again.
Do Not Force Feed
Every now and then, mothers try to force a morsel into their children's mouth and in most cases, they spit it out. I genuinely feel that we should respect their choice, taste preferences and mood because forcing makes them withdraw from food further. On my first visit to my pediatrician, he said, "God has sent them with the capability to ask for food when they are hungry, let them be your guide.' And I swear by this and my child has developed a positive motivation towards food always.
And Lastly, Don't Use Mobile and TV as a Distraction While Feeding Your Child
This is a common scenario wherever you find kids in restaurants, hotels, or even at homes. This is developing into a form of the disorder called screen dependency. When kids eat watching TV, they don't explore the food that they are eating. They never enjoy the taste of their food, which is why it is important that kids don't depend on television while having a meal.
These tips worked for me and I am proud to say that I am sure my child won't be hungry in any circumstances. I may get a complaint that she eats other kids' food, but my tiffin won't come untouched from school. I plead other moms to give these tips a try and let me know if these worked for you.
Happy reading, happy parenting!!

Rectal Bleeding during Pregnancy: Causes, Remedies & Prevention
What is Rectal Bleeding during Pregnancy?
Rectal bleeding, or anal bleeding, is usually a result of anal fissures. An anal fissure is a small tear in the tissue that lines the anus. It is quite common to see bright red blood after bowel movement during pregnancies and after birth, usually when passing hard stools. Blood in the stool due to anal fissures can cause a burning sensation after a bowel movement.
Symptoms
There are various symptoms of rectal bleeding in pregnancy, a few of which are listed below:
Fever
Stomach pain
Nausea
Vomiting
Changing bowel habits
Prolonged or severe diarrhoea
Irregular bowel movement (denoted by narrow and thin stools called ‘pencil-stools’)
Other noted symptoms that indicate the need to undergo emergency medical treatment are:
Black or maroon stools
Large volumes of blood loss
Rectal trauma accompanied by difficulty in breathing
Causes of Rectal Bleeding in Pregnant Women
Rectal bleeding mostly occurs due to anal fissures in the body. Pregnant women are often prone to constipation, due to which they pass hard stools. This can strain the rectum during bowel movements. Taking high-dosage vitamin medications can also cause constipation and irregular bowel movements in women. A lack of fibre in the diet can sometimes trigger problems with bowel movement, increasing chances of rectal bleeding.
Less common causes of rectal bleeding include:
Anal cancer
Colon cancer
Colon polyps (a condition where a clump of cells forms on the lining of the colon, i.e., the large intestine)
Inflammation of the rectum
Diverticulosis (a condition where pouches form in the wall of the large intestine)
Crohn's disease (an inflammatory bowel disease)
Diarrhoea
Rectal cancer
Ulcerative colitis (a condition that causes inflammation and sores in the lining of the large intestine)
Rectal Bleeding Diagnosis
A physical examination is done to treat rectal bleeding and diagnose its origins. Low blood pressure and elevated heartbeat are major indicators of high-volume blood loss due to rectal bleeding, warranting emergency medical treatment. A vital diagnostic test involves passing a flexible tube into the stomach to check for signs of active bleeding. The anus is inspected to check for external sources of bleeding such as trauma, and a finger examination may entail assessing the characteristics of stool, tenderness, and checking for the presence of masses. Regarding blood loss volumes, blood samples are taken to the lab to assess blood clotting factor and check for signs of infection.
Other common diagnostic tests involve anoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, Barium enema X-rays, CT scans, and angiography. Colonoscopy can be used to examine the inside of the rectum. These diagnostic tests involve checking for tumours in the anus and examine lower ends of the colon to check for brisk/active bleeding. Additionally, nuclear medicine studies can be used to tag red blood cells and pinpoint regions in the colon where slow bleeding occurs.
Rectal Bleeding Treatment and Remedies during Pregnancy
Minor rectal bleeding can be treated with home remedies while severe cases include medical treatment at the hospital. The most common home remedies for rectal bleeding during pregnancy are:
Eating high-fibre foods that relieve constipation, such as green vegetables like beans, squash, prunes, figs, and nutrient-dense meals rich in Omega-3 fatty acids supplemented with probiotics. Warm bone broths and herbal teas also work. Avoid alcohol and spicy foods.
Consuming adequate amounts of water throughout the day
Getting enough exercise and jumping on a trampoline to relieve the lymphatic system also works. Light exercises like jogging, swimming, yoga, and low-impact routines can gently regulate bowel movements and enhance bowel function.
Stress reduction techniques and incorporating relaxation routines in one's daily life is also helpful. Reducing stress helps the rectum heal and allows the body to improve its inflammatory response naturally, thus reducing inflammation and chances of further complications.
Note: Make sure to check with your doctor before starting any new foods or exercises during pregnancy.
Prevention
The most common ways to prevent rectal bleeding in pregnancy are:
Allow yourself to go to the bathroom when the urge arises and do not forcefully withdraw from discharging stool when needed
Make sure your diet is loaded with high-fibre content, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids. This can help prevent rectal bleeding
Get regular exercise and relaxation
Stay hydrated, and make sure you drink fluids every day to reduce chances of constipation
Avoid medications with high-doses of iron since they can cause constipation. Ask your healthcare provider to replace them with safe, over-the-counter fibre supplements
Will this Bleeding Harm Your Baby?
No. Rectal bleeding can occur weeks after the baby's birth too. It does not harm babies in any way during either pregnancy or childbirth.
When to Call the Doctor
If you're experiencing the following symptoms then calling the doctor is recommended. These signs should be evaluated by a doctor.
Vaginal bleeding
Low blood pressure
Elevated heart rates
Experiencing rectal bleeding despite following home treatment protocols
Signs of bleeding accompanied by back pain
Pain in the abdomen
You may be prescribed a laxative to take during pregnancy. Discomfort caused by rectal bleeding can be eased by gently wiping the anus-area with a fragrance-free and alcohol-free toilet wipe rather than using conventional bathroom tissues.
Healing of anal fissures automatically occurs weeks after the pregnancy. Experiencing Piles, which leads to added pressure on the rectum area and causes inflammation, is common during pregnancies. Consider taking paracetamol if the pain in the rectum persists despite having frequent bowel movements and taking multiple trips to the bathroom.
Rectal bleeding that occurs from haemorrhoids and anal fissures automatically goes away as the body heals itself after pregnancies. If you are not sure where the bleeding originates from, be it from the rectum, or vagina, you should consider making a call to the doctor.
While rectal bleeding is usually no cause for serious concern, it is always best to take the required precautions. Also, pay a visit to the doctor if the symptoms are intense and persistent. Read more

5 Closet Organization Tips and Ideas
Is your wardrobe overstuffed with clothes but you still feel that you have nothing good to wear? Chances are, you haven't laid out everything well. Arrange your wardrobe so that clothes and accessories are properly categorised and you will never be short of stylish clothes again!
If you open your wardrobe and feel like rearranging it to make space for new purchases, it’s time to dump what you no longer wear. But what about that lovely top your mom gave you? Or that backless dress hubby surprised you with? If you feel there are too many clothes you haven't worn and probably won’t, but can’t decide if you should dump them or not, you need a lesson in what to chuck out.
Best Way to Organise Clothes in a Closet Without Bringing You Down
1. Remove Stuff You Don't Wear
Admit it. Half of your wardrobe is filled with clothes you haven't worn in ages. If you haven’t worn them in the past year, it’s safe to assume you won’t be wearing them in future. It’s time to take them out of your closet to make room for clothes you actually wear and are looking forward to buying.
2. Do a Reality Check
One of the reasons you keep wearing certain clothes is because the rest of your stuff is out of sight. They’re either pushed behind on deep shelves or are buried under your regular stuff. One simple closet organisation tip is to take them out and place them towards the front and top when you rearrange. If you still find excuses for not wearing them, dump them.
3. Categorise Your Clothes
Separate your clothes according to style and place them in different shelves. The next time you plan to wear a skirt, you’ll have to look for it only in a particular shelf rather than running your hands through the entire wardrobe. Categorising will also help you dress well for different occasions within no time.
4. Hang Your Clothes
While men prefer hanging their shirts and trousers, women usually fold their clothes and make several piles. It often gets difficult to see through these stacks. A better idea for organising clothes is to hang as many of them as you can. It increases their visibility and saves a lot of your time looking for stuff. It’s a good idea to place a second rod above the main one in your closet to create space.
5. Arrange According to The Season
It’s important to arrange your wardrobe according to the season. There's no point rummaging through summer clothes in the winter season.Take all your clothes out and place them elsewhere so that you have enough room for clothes for the current season.
Learning how to arrange your wardrobe to make space and keep things organised is not so hard after all, is it? You just need a bit of resolve where dumping clothes is concerned and a little planning to put things in their place. Do this for your children too. They outgrow clothes so fast that their closets need clearing often. Read more
