15 Fun Learning Activities for Kids
Spending time with your children is the best way to bond with them. While you and your child can decide what activities to do together, you can also make it a point to do a few fun activities that also double up as learning activities. This way, your child will learn things that are important while also having fun.
Educational Activities for Your Children
There are many educational activities for kids at home that you can introduce your children to. Remember to not force these activities on your child, she should be naturally excited about the activities. Try to suggest activities that suit your child’s personality and interests.
1. Twister Math
Take the old classic of twister and give it a numerical twist. Write down numbers on pieces of paper and stick them on each coloured circle. When you call out a number, you child must place their hands and feet on a combination of numbers that will equal the number by any mathematical operation - addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. For example, you call out the number 12, then your child can place his hands and feet on three and four which when multiplied gives you 12.
2. Tree Lessons
This is an activity that will help your little one learn the basics of natural science. Take your child for a walk and pick up a few interesting leaves and ask her to do the same. Once you get home, look up the leaves on the internet and identify which tree the leaves come from. Your child can maintain a scrapbook keeping all the leaves she has collected.
3. Egg-experiment
This is a great way to explain a few laws of science to your child. You will need a peeled boiled egg, a glass bottle with a round opening like a milk bottle, a small cardboard paper, and some matches. Light the paper and place it in the bottle of the clean bottle. Immediately place the egg on the opening of the bottle. As the paper burns itself out, the resulting vacuum will suck the egg into the bottle. This activity is a sure fire way to get your child excited about science.
4. Bird Feeder
If your child is interested in birds then you can help her make her own bird feeder. Take any old carton box and open up the two larger sides. String a strong rope through the top and suspend the feeder outside on a tree branch or hook. Place a seed mix at the bottom of the box and wait for the birds to visit.
5. Rain Man
This is an experiment that can tickle any child’s curiosity. Take a few tablespoons of water and add some food colouring to it. The richer the colour the more exciting will the results be. In a larger glass, fill water up to two-thirds. Top the rest of it with plain shaving foam. Add the coloured water to the shaving foam drop by drop using a dropper. When the foam gets saturated, the coloured water will ‘fall’ into the water below the shaving cream like ‘rain’.
6. Colour Caterpillar
Here you can teach your child the colour theory while also having lots of fun with your child. You’ll need five clear containers, water, and primary dyes. Use red, blue and yellow food colouring to get the primary colours. Place the water containers in a row with the coloured water alternating with the plain water. Take paper napkins and roll into a cylinder and put one end into the coloured liquid and the other into the plain water. Connect all the containers in this manner. Soon, you will see that the plain water is changing colours and is becoming a mix of two primary colours. In this way, you will get green with the blue and yellow, and orange with the red and yellow. You can also arrange the containers in a circle with a plain water container between the red and blue to get purple.
7. Volcanic eruptions
A simple yet delightful activity is building sand volcanos. You’ll need sand, a pipe, vinegar, and baking soda. Build a volcano around the pipe with the opening of the pipe in the centre. Fill up the tube about halfway to add more stability. Pour the baking soda into the pipe. Get your child to pour the vinegar into the opening for the eruption. You can also mix food colouring with the baking soda to get different coloured ‘lava’.
8. Secret Codes
Every child will love the idea of having a secret language only they and their friends can understand. Once you explain the basic principle of codes, your children can go ahead and create their own. You can begin by creating a key for your children which is what they will use to break the code. One of the simplest codes is to assign numbers to the alphabets. So, 1 will signify the alphabet A and 13 will signify M. They can also select a particular book and choose words from there by writing down the page number, paragraph, and word.
9. Slime
Which kid wouldn’t be fascinated with slime? Now, you can teach your kids how to make slime right at home while also learning how different things react with each other. Place half a cup of white adhesive in a bowl and add a small amount of liquid detergent to it. Mix it well. If the mixture is still too sticky, then add a bit more detergent. Your slime is ready!
10. Stylish Coding
It’s never too early to get into coding. You can teach your child about coding by making a necklace that spells your child’s name with the binary numbers – 0 and 1. Select two types of beads where one stands for 0 and the other for 1. Using the code, your child can string together the beads to spell out her name.
11. Star Gazing
One of the most magical experiences a young child can have is a visit to the planetarium. Your child will be exposed to the mysteries of the universe and how the earth plays a role in it. You can also help your child set up a telescope at home if she is interested.
12. Journal
Encourage your child to keep a diary at an early age. This will teach your children to not just chronicle the things in their lives but will help them explore their creativity. They can use stickers, draw or even add photographs in their journals. This is also a great way for children to keep in touch with their emotions and also process events.
13. Cook
Cooking can be a fun way for you and child to bond while they also learn an important life skill. Get them to help you with meal preparations by adding fun elements to the tasks. Depending on the age of your child, you can choose the complexity of the task. On special days, you can ask your child to decide what to cook for the whole family.
14. Maze
This is a great activity for your young child. Using just a chalk, you can draw a maze on the ground large enough for your child to fit in. Give your child a car and ask her to get out of the maze without crossing any solid lines. In this activity, you can encourage your child to think and use her imagination.
15. Smiley T-Shirt
Let your child explore her artsy side with this fun activity. Start with an old plain T-shirt. Mix a cup of flour with water till you get the consistency of ketchup. Pour this mixture into a squeeze-y bottle and draw a smiley face on the T-shirt. Let this dry in the sun. Use fabric spray paints to paint the shirt. Once dry, remove the flour mixture and you’ll be greeted with a smiley face.
As you can see, there are many kids learning activities that your child can enjoy where learning doesn’t seem like a chore. There are many additional educational activities that you can introduce your children to, like the Intellikit activity box. This activity box has eight activities, ten worksheets, age-appropriate flashcards and an exciting storybook for loads of fun and learning! Unlike toys that kids eventually get bored of, the Intellikit offers multiple activities that can be performed over and over again, honing your child’s developing skills.
The more you encourage these activities, the more your child’s imagination is activated! More learning, more fun!

Child Psychology: Tips to Understand your Child Better
Child Psychology is a vast subject. It tells you about the growth of an individual from infancy until the end of adolescence and how each child is different from the other, not just physically but also in their thought process and personality.
A child is said to be like soft clay. He takes shape just the way you mold him. Therefore understanding your child is of utmost importance for all parents.
What is Child Psychology?
Child Psychology is a field of study which delves into the mental, emotional and behavioral development of a child. It traces the entire journey of a child from infancy until the end of adolescence and studies their cognitive and intellectual development.
Importance of Understanding Child Psychology
The early years of an individual’s life are crucial for their emotional, social and physical wellbeing. This has an overall impact on their personalities as an adult. Research says that the early years play a significant role in brain development too. A person's early experiences both with their parents as well as with the outside world profoundly affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
Tips to Understand Child Psychology
Understanding the psychological needs of a child is not easy, but it needs to be done. Children at different stages of development behave in different ways. A child of 5 – 6 years will behave differently than an adolescent.
Realising and accepting your child’s likes, dislikes, qualities (good or bad) is the key to being a good parent. When you accept them just the way they are, they get a sense of security. Here are a few tips to help you understand your child:
1. Observe
You need to know your child if you want to understand him. It is possible to do so simply by being around him and observing him. When you see him playing, asking for a certain thing, reacting in a certain manner to situations, his interaction with others, etc., you get to know a great deal about his overall personality.
2. Be your Child’s Best Friend
Making your child realize that you are always there for him whenever he needs you can be your first step towards attaining this goal. This will make him feel secure, loved and wanted. Help him to open up to you.
3. Spend Quality Time with your Child
Being around your child isn’t enough. To know him better do activities together like playing games, cooking (children are always eager to help), cleaning up cupboards or his room, etc.
4. Praise your Child
Praising him for good work done will boost his self-esteem. However, overpraise can make him arrogant and snobbish.
5. Listen
By listening to your child, you get to know him more. Doing so will make him feel that you are interested in his life. This will in turn help to strengthen the bond between you two.
6. Talking
Talking to your child that are of interest to him could help him open up to you. In this way, you could initiate conversations more easily and get to know your child better.
7. Give Full Attention while Talking
Always maintain eye contact while talking to your child. By doing so, you will make sure your child believes that you are listening and what he's saying is of utmost importance to you.
8. Give Respect
When your child talks about any of his insecurities, fears, or any situation where he has been put to shame, do not laugh or ridicule him. You need to understand that for a child (especially during his adolescent years), it isn’t particularly easy to open up. It must have taken a lot of courage on his part to do so.
9. Explaining
Children up to the age of 5 – 6 will abide by all the rules created by you or the decisions you have taken for their betterment. The real problem lies with adolescents. Blame it on their age. In such situations just try and explain as to why you had to take a certain decision or do a certain thing. At that moment they may be angry with you, but eventually, with time, they will understand.
10. Taking Opinion
Ask for his opinion where it is necessary. Doing so will make him feel important and will raise his self-worth.
11. Discovering the Reasons Behind his Behaviour
If your child has been misbehaving or has shown some negative behaviour, try to find out the cause behind it. By doing so, you will find out where you've been going wrong as a parent, and it will give you a chance to enhance your parenting skills.
12. Knowing their Likes and Dislikes
Knowledge about what your child likes and dislikes will also help you know them better.
13. Freedom of Expression
Allow your child to express himself the way he wants to. You could get a glimpse of how he thinks or what he wants.
14. Don’t be Too Curious
Every parent is eager to know what is happening in their child’s life especially in case your child is an adolescent but don’t be overly curious. Too much curiosity on your part could make him feel that you don’t believe in him and this could end the bond between the two of you.
15. Think Like Them
It is important to think like them while talking to them or doing an activity together. This will give him a sense of familiarity.
16. Let their Imagination Take Wings
While taking a stroll with your little one, observe him. He may see something quite different to what you are seeing. Do not stop him when he does so. This will help you get an insight into his inner world.
Recognizing the Problems with the Child’s Psychological Development
Parents have an innate ability to understand when something is not right with their child. So how can you as parent get a clear idea as to what is going on? It’s best to ask people who are close to your child.
1. Friends
Ask friends who have children in the similar age group and find out what their child is like? Do they speak, are they able to write, eat on their own, follow instructions, etc. In case of an adolescent kid, you could ask his friends how he is at school, his behavior towards his peers and others, etc.
2. Internet
You may also search the internet for your queries.
3. Teacher
During Parent-Teacher Meets, the teacher may also be able to throw some light on your child mental health and wellbeing in general. You may ask her if she has noticed anything different in your child.
4. Care–Giver
In today's time in many families when both parents are working, it is necessary to hire a babysitter/ayah for your kid. She is the one who gets to be with him the most. Therefore, she is the best person to ask when you feel that something is amiss.
5. Paediatrician
A Doctor can easily detect any shortcomings in a child during the scheduled visits for vaccination or check-up.
6. Psychologists
He will be the best person to answer any queries regarding child psychology. He can help in case of any behavioral issues like depression, low self-esteem, anxiety/phobias or different types of disorders like Autism, ADHD, etc. in the child.

How can a Child Psychologist Help?
Childhood Development psychology is a vast and varied subject. It is not easy for a layperson to answer questions on it or help a child with psychological development problems. In such cases, only a specialist could help. Child Psycho-therapists can help in a lot of ways. They are trained to help children with family problems, issues at school, health-related problems, and difficult relationships. They also specialize in helping children with disorders like ADHD, Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety, Eating Disorders, etc.
Child Psycho-therapists also work on the development of a child’s mental health and focus on their overall development-cognitive, social, emotional and linguistic.
Childhood is a very important phase. A bad childhood could have a negative impact on the individual's adulthood as well. Information About Makar Sankranti Festival For Kids
Makar Sankranti has a geographical significance to it. It is on this day that the Sun begins to travel northwards. It leaves the Tropic of Cancer to enter the Tropic of Capricorn (so the name 'Makar' corresponding to the zodiac sign 'Makar' meaning Capricorn). In addition, Makar Sankranti also marks the beginning of the spring season.
One look through the market, and you’ll see that kites with ‘Modi-Obama’ images on them are the current flavor this ‘kite-season’. These kites have simply flooded every nook and cranny of the city streets. However, Obama or not, kites have always been associated with the festival of Makar Sankranti, an important Hindu festival celebrated in almost all parts of India. So, what is Uttarayan or Makar Sankranti? This festival that gives us a reason to come together and celebrate after the chilling winter months has a rich back-story!
Importance and History of Makar Sankranti
Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival marking the onset of spring season in India. The festival is known by different names in various parts of India, such as Lohri in North India and Pongal in Southern regions. Earlier, Aryans started celebrating this day as an auspicious day for festivities. Even in the Mahabharata epic, this day is considered to be a auspicious one with a great significance. Bhishma Pitamah struggled a lot with his life after being wounded in the war, till the onset of Uttarayan. He attained heavenly abode during this auspicious phase. It is believed that people who die on this day achieves Moksha or salvation.
Why Makar Sankranti is Celebrated?
Makar Sankranti marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the spring season. On this auspicious day, the Sun God is worshipped across the country along with Lord Vishnu and Goddess Mahalaxmi. The sun enters the Capricorn sun sign (Makara) and the word ‘Sankranti’ implies the movement of Sun from one sign to another. According to the lunar calendar, when the sun moves from Dakshinayana to Uttarayan (Tropic of Cancer to Tropic of Capricorn), it marks the onset of spring season. It is also believed that the festival marks the inauspicious time which starts in mid-December. Most of the Hindu households perform any religious ceremonies only after the celebration of Makar Sankranti.
Significance of The Date
It is one of the few Indian festivals that is celebrated on a fixed date, i.e. the 14th of January every year. It falls on the same day every year as it follows the solar calendar. So, how to celebrate Makar Sankranti festival? Let's take a look at the fun ways that people around the country mark this date!
Customs and Traditions of Makar Sankranti
1. Exchange of Halwa
On Sankranti, people exchange multi-colored sweet preparations known as ‘Halwa’ in Marathi, amongst each other. It is nothing but simple sugar granules coated with sugar syrup. While exchanging these sweet tidbits, people greet each other in Marathi, by saying ‘tilgul ghya – goad goad bola’. This sentence is spoken as a token of goodwill, and it’s underlying meaning presupposes that ‘let’s forget the past ill-feelings and grudges, resolve the differences and remain friends’.
2. Exchanging Sweets Made of Jaggery
Preparing and exchanging sweets made with Jaggery is one more custom that is followed on Makar Sankranti. The reason being, sugar cane is harvested as the first crop in the harvest season, and is then converted to Jaggery. Sweets are then prepared using this Jaggery and offered as ‘prasadam’ or ‘naivedyam’ to the deity. It is an act wherein the farmers thank the deities and Mother Nature for a bountiful crop.
3. Use of Sesame Seeds (Til)
This practice has a spiritual explanation for it. As per the Hindu scriptures, on the day of Makar Sankranti those who apply sesame oil to the body before the bath and then bathe in water in which a handful of sesame seeds are sprinkled, will be relieved of all their sins. In addition, drinking water mixed with sesame seeds, and making an offering of sweets made with sesame seeds to the deities and amongst each other, would help one to improve his spiritual tendencies. Somewhere, this notion holds true because Ayurveda says that sesame seeds absorb negative energies (tamsik) and emit positive energies (sattvik).
4. Wearing Black Colored Outfits
Maharashtrians wear black colored clothing on this day. It is considered auspicious for women to wear a black colored saree on this day and perform the ceremony of ‘haldi-kumkum’. In fact, this is the only festival in which people are allowed to wear black. Otherwise, no other Indian Hindu festival permits the use of black in festivities. The reason for wearing black on Makar Sankranti is that, this day comes when the winter season is at its peak, and the colour black retains and absorbs heat, thus, helping the body to keep warm.
5. Flying Kites
Makar Sankranti is the day when the sun starts moving northwards i.e. towards Uttarayana. And according to Ayurveda, when the sun moves in Uttarayana, its rays have a medicinal effect on the body. So, after the long winter months, when people come out in the open to fly kites, they unknowingly receive the benefits of sun exposure. Their body gets exposed to the sun’s rays and gets cleansed of all the infections, cold, cough and dry skin that had affected them in the winter season. On this auspicious day, also called the Kite Flying festival in India, you can see various colors and shapes of kites decorating the sky. It is especially popular in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The kites are usually made up of light weight paper and bamboo and in the shape of a rhombus.
Apart from the ones mentioned above, there are other activities that mark the commencement of this day. Women start the day by sweeping and mopping their houses and courtyards. This is followed by making a rangoli at the doorstep. Next, after bathing with a special mixture called ‘Utane’, ladies dress up to worship and to pay respect to Goddess Saraswati (the Goddess of Knowledge). Also, prayers are offered to the departed ancestors of the family. In a nutshell, it can be said that Makar Sankranti is a day that marks the inception of enlightenment, peace, prosperity, goodwill and happiness; namely spring season, and the simultaneous closure of the winter season.
The festival of Makar Sankranti is said to bring happiness, joy and prosperity, especially among the farmers community. This year, share the significance of the festival with your kids so they can enjoy it even more fervour as well as gain insights into the rich cultural history of our country. Read more

Sharing Love? The most difficult task for a mother of two!
Haven't we always wondered about how to look after the 1st child after the 2nd one arrives? Well,I too was worried about this.My constant worry was about how to divide the love and care to both my kids equally..The worry was more because I had given all the love and care to my first kid all these years and there was literally no one else I needed to share this love with..Not even my husband. All I knew was that my son is my sole reason for living(like most of the mothers).Hence, even the thought about sharing this immense love made me feel anxious as I had already started feeling for the tiny life within..With each passing day,the love for the unseen tiny one grew stronger only making me scared..I was scared,confused,worried..What if I cant be a good mother for my newborn and what if my first most loved little boy starts hating me for being too caring towards the newborn? All these thoughts gripped me and continued to bother me until one fine day the tiny life within knocked the door of the world outside! Happiness knew no bounds as both of us battled together for survival.(yes,we had some complications).Well, keeping aside my happiness,I doubtfully looked at the eyes of my elder son although I knew he was the happiest and proud big brother that day! I doubted my 'self' actually. However, to my surprise,my son very happily accepted the fact about my sharing the love with his new baby brother. Thus, making the task easier for me.I was awestruck at the words he spoke.."Mumma,dont worry about me now..I have grown up..Whatever you did for me when I was a baby, now you do those for my brother..Also dont you worry so much..I am there to take care of him."(I was in tears as I didnt expect such promising and comforting words from my 6 years old son who was still so tiny for me). Well, now its over a month and all I realised is that all my fears and worries were just unreal..My 6 yr old boy now helps me in changing diapers of his brother, cleanses his poop, uses sanitizer before touching him, bringing his clothes from the terrace and keeping them in order, makes him wear clothes slowly and very tenderly(in case he hurts his tiny bro),and not to forget,he even helps me in nursing.😀 What a lovely doting big brother my baby has got!(I keep thinking and smiling). People say and said that a sort of jealousy would come to him once the newborn arrives, but to my surprisenothing of that sort happened(Touchwood!) I dont know what the future holds, but as of now, all I know is that there is only love and love...!and I am now a happy mother of two😊 Read more

Communication with the baby during Oil Massage- reaffirming "Touch" factor
Touch!! This is something magical both for the mother and baby. We often hear and even have experienced that just after the baby has been delivered, the baby is put onto the mother's breast. The reasons being- One, the level of oxytocin is to the maximum when we give birth to our child and second-the child is so much familiar to our heartbeat that it soothes the baby from all the exersion that he has undergone during the tiresome process of child birth.
Such is the importance of touch between the mother and child. Our touch gives them a feeling of secureness, warmth and affection and I tell you that is something which nobody else can give a child.
During pregnancy, I started reading a lot about baby's development and growth both as a foetus and also as a baby while growing in the outside world. On reading so many scientific facts, listening to our elders on how they used to take care of baby I started feeling so blessed and proud to be able to become a mother.. The gist of all that I've read is simply that there is nothing in this world that can calm down a baby except for the mother's touch.
One of the best ways that we can interact or touch our baby is by giving them a nice oil massage before bath. Im using Ancient living's Organic Sesame Oil which is particularly made for children's body massage. It is said that Sesame oil gives the baby a warm feeling during winters. I will be using Organic Coconut Oil/ Almond oil during summer to the next winter.
Massage time has become favourite time for my 3m old son now.I take a, 30mins time before bath where 20 mins are for massaging the oil and 10 mins are for the absorption of oil ito the baby's body. I make him do good exercises which relaxes and strengthens his muscles. Also certain stretching excersises for hands and legs help him for better growth of height. Most important of all these exercises is the accu-pressure on baby's feet and the back massage which helps in strengthening of the spinal cord.
During this whole process of massage, I sing songs for him with expressions which interest him for which he started humming with me now. Also I start talking to him like I ask "What did you dream last night? or "What shall we do today?" or "What dress do you want to wear today?". It is obvious that he really doesn't understand what I'm asking him but all he knows is that his mother is talking to him. He responds to all my questions with coooos, gaaaaaass and goooos which is actually making me so happy because I can see in his eyes that he wants to talk to me.. So massage time is actually our private chit-chat time. The moment I spread his massage sheet and remove his clothes he's already starting to smile as he understands we are going for a massage. The best place to do a massage is where there is minimum of sunlight falling on his body. It gives him Vitamin- D which we get majorly from Sun. So massage not only improves our bonding and communication with our baby but also improves his physical wellbeing, learn vocabulary very soon and also to respond when somebody is talking to us.
So all new mothers, get ready to team up with your little chit-chat partner and all the mother's who are already enjoying the special time with your baby I hope you recall all the best memories had you've had or having with your little one. Read more

A. For weight loss diet is good in intermittent fasting a good and but if your body is loose or you feel you really do tighten up your body then gymming or yoga both the things are going to be very good both the things are going to be helpful in tightening up your body and muscles at the same time but it is time consuming we just have to have patience
