Bottle Feeding Advantages and Disadvantages
Bottle feeding is different from breastfeeding in that the baby is fed from a bottle. Either breast milk or formula milk can be bottle-fed.
What Are the Pros of Bottle Feeding?
The upsides of bottle feeding are:
1. Anyone can feed the baby.
One of the benefits of bottle feeding is that either parent can feed the baby. Feeding is an important bonding moment; breastfeeding doesn’t give the daddy an opportunity to bond with the baby. Bottle feeding allows the siblings, father and other family members to spend some time with the newborn baby.
2. It can be done in public.
For some moms, breastfeeding in public can be embarrassing. If you don’t want to expose your breasts or go to a private area for breastfeeding, bottle feeding is the way to go!
3. Keeping a track of your baby’s intake is easy.
It isn’t easy to know how much milk your baby is drinking when you breastfeed. Bottle feeding helps you find out your baby’s daily milk intake.
4. You don’t have to worry if your breast milk supply is low.
Many moms worry that their baby will remain underfed if their breast milk supply is insufficient. In such a case, parents can resort to bottle feeding. This ensures that your baby gets all the milk he needs to grow and develop.
5. You don’t have to worry about making changes to your diet.
A mother who feeds formula milk to her baby doesn’t have to worry about adding specific fruits and veggies to her diet. She can eat and drink anything she likes.
6. Bottle feeding helps babies who have lactose intolerance.
In rare cases, infants cannot process breast milk or animal milk. This situation is known as lactose intolerance. Then, suitable formula milk, such as soy protein, can be fed from a bottle.
7. The mother’s health condition doesn’t affect the baby
If the mother falls ill after childbirth or faces health issues that don’t let breastfeed,a bottle can be used to feed the baby.
What Are the Cons of Bottle Feeding?
The disadvantages of bottle feeding are:
1. Breast milk is more nutritious.
Breast milk has all the nutrients that your baby requires to grow and develop. It is also light on the stomach than formula milk. Bottle feeding may increase the risk of obesity in early childhood.
2. Prepare the milk for bottle feeding takes time and effort.
You can breastfeed your baby on demand. But if you’ve habituated your baby to bottle feeding, you need to wash and sterilise the bottle, pour milk into the bottle and warm it. It’s a lot of work! Improper sterilisation can also your infant’s health at risk.
3. Bottle feeding equipment are an added expense.
You’ll need to buy feeding bottles, a cleaning brush and also a steriliser. You’ll also have to invest in a good-quality breast pump or formula milk powder. This is an added expense to your monthly budget.
4. Bottle feeding may compromise your baby’s immune system.
Studies show that breast milk develops and improves your baby’s immune system. Formula milk, on the other hand, doesn’t contain vital and natural nutrients. Formula-fed babies also carry the risk of developing certain illnesses like chest infection, ear infection, urine infection or diarrhoea.
5. It affects the mother-baby bonding.
Feeding is a bonding moment for the mother and the child. When she latches on to your breasts, skin-to-skin contact is established. Bottle feeding may hamper this bonding.
6. Bottle feeding is inconvenient.
You’ll have to carry clean bottles, formula milk, baby nipples, and other necessities while travelling. It can be troublesome to manage the things as well as the baby at the same time. Bottle feeding is also inconvenient if your baby requires midnight feeding sessions as you have to get up and prepare the milk each time.
7. Breastfeeding keeps the mother healthy.
Some studies have proved that moms who choose to breastfeed rather than bottle feed reduce their chances of suffering from breast cancer, ovarian cancer and osteoporosis.
8. Your baby may not take to formula milk.
For some babies, formula milk fed from a bottle may not be suitable. They may experience diarrhoea and a loss of fluids from the body.
9. Bottle feeding puts your baby at the risk of SIDS.
Studies have shown that breastfeeding can help to prevent babies from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Bottle feeding has its own pros and cons. You should carefully consider both sides of the situation before settling on the method of feeding your baby. The aim is to ensure that your baby is neither underfed nor overfed and gets the essential vitamins and nutrients while she adapts to the world around her.

International Literacy Day 2021 - Date, History, and Significance of the Day
Did you know that four countries reported a 100% literacy rate in 2021? That’s quite an achievement, isn’t it? We also had over thirty nations reporting over 99% literacy rates; however, several developing and underdeveloped countries continue to struggle in this arena. The world literacy rate is a constant reminder that the education system across the world needs attention. To re-emphasise this and highlight the current factors that affect world literacy, UNESCO established the International Literacy Day in the 1960s. Read on to know more!
When Is International Literacy Day Celebrated?
International Literacy Day is celebrated on the 8th of September every year.
History of International Literacy Day
Literacy is a fundamental human right, and as strange as it may seem, everyone doesn’t know this. To remind people of this and the importance of literacy, UNESCO established the International Literacy Day in 1966. The day has been observed every year since the 8th of September, 1967, to promote the literacy agenda towards a literate and sustainable society.
Why Is International Literacy Day Celebrated?
Education is a fundamental human right, yet many are not given the opportunity to study, and some have to drop out of school. Most developing and underdeveloped countries face substantial challenges when it comes to literacy, despite there being improvements in basic education.
Other factors, such as population, socioeconomic status, gender inequality, poverty, corruption, emigration, etc., also affect school enrolment and/or dropout rates. Thus, a large number of the adult and youth population struggle through reading, writing, and comprehending the current events that are shaping the world today.
Literacy is essential for human and social development. It helps us develop the ability to learn new concepts and gain different skills, which are extremely useful in improving standards of living. Literacy has a direct impact on health and income, helps create jobs, improves the economy of the country, and promotes equality, democracy, and peace. It also helps individuals gain confidence, develop self-esteem, and work towards enhancing their quality of life. These are some of the primary reasons why Literacy Day is important, and why it is celebrated every year.
What Is the Scale of Literacy in the World?
According to UNESCO, over 770 million adults, most of whom are women, cannot read and write, even though the world’s literacy rate has improved over the past 50 years. According to worldpopulationreview, the world literacy rate for the global population over 15 years of age is a little over 86%.
What is the Theme of International Literacy Day?
This year, the theme of International Literacy Day is “Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”.
The theme aims to bring people’s focus to the shift that learning and education had to take during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the digital divide that persists in terms of infrastructure, connectivity, and technology. This year, the spotlight is on the interaction between literacy and digital skills, and making technology-enabled learning meaningful and inclusive for all.
Activities to Do on International Literacy Day
You can celebrate International Literacy Day in so many creative ways! Here are some of them:
1. Attending Fun Reading and Writing Workshops
These can be highly beneficial to encourage the youth as well as non-literate adults to read and write. You may choose to have a theme, or let the participants explore anything under the sun as their subject and share their knowledge through poetry, essays, stories, etc.
2. Playing Games and Puzzles
Games can add a fun element to learning! For small kids, educational toys are well-recommended as they are engaging, and kids may not even realise that they’re learning something in the process. For older kids and adults, games such as Scrabble, hangman, Sudoku, crosswords, Pictionary, brainteasers, chess, cryptic and logic puzzles, trivia, riddles, etc., can make them rattle their brains and revisit their books.
3. Journaling
This activity is perfect for people from any age group who can write and read. It is a great way to vent your feelings and thoughts to relieve stress and anxiety. It’s also a fabulous tool for self-reflection, keeping thoughts organised, and meeting goals. It comes in handy when making notes or setting reminders; thus, it can help you lead an organised life.
4. Joining a Book Club
Joining a reading club can help you connect with other people who share your interests. Book clubs facilitate continual learning through discussions, and a deeper understanding of the topics.
5. Enrolling at the Nearest Library
You can get yourself a membership at your local library and get unlimited access to the wealth of knowledge hidden in all the books they have! Nowadays, some libraries even provide access to the internet. It’s the number-one place to form study groups as well.
There are many more ways to celebrate International Literacy Day. These ideas are great for beginners, and when you’re ready to explore further, you can try taking weekend classes, volunteering as a teacher, tutoring adults, etc. Encourage everyone to read and write, as it provides the foundation of life.

People With Sisters Turn Out to be Better People: Science Says
Do you have a sister? Then you’d know that she is sometimes a blessing and sometimes not so much (especially when she “borrows” your favourite dress). Science however, says that people who grow up with sisters turn out to be better people, so you may actually have a lot to thank your sister for.
Growing up, sibling-conflicts may be the most common and the most annoying thing to deal with at home. The fact that we know our siblings since birth gives us the liberty to get really mad at them, more than we would get with friends. But it also means more inside jokes, double the clothes, accessories and make-up, covering up for each other and understanding more things than anyone else would bout each other.
Let’s look at all the scientific benefits of having a sister and you might just want to let her have that jacket of yours she really likes, it looks better on her anyway!
1. Your sister has made you more compassionate!
How? Having a sister means that you have to share things. This makes you a more giving person. Sisters promote positive social behaviours like altruism in the way they show you affection. This is because your sister may not show it but you know she is always looking out for you. This inspires the younger sibling to naturally develop that behaviour towards other people.
2. Your sister can give you a mental health pick-me-up
Feeling crappy? Call your sister! A study showed that sisters can boost self-esteem and mental health. Sisters help protect siblings from feeling guilty, lonely, unloved and afraid. You can also count on your sister to give you real, honest feedback for anything under the sun. She won’t sugar-coat it because she will always want what’s best for you.
3. Have Decent Interpersonal Skills? Go Thank your Sister!
Younger siblings have been found to learn how to handle conflict from growing up with an older sister. They also learn how to diffuse difficult situations better. Older sisters too learn to become nurturing and empathetic as people.
“I was always asked to take care of my younger brother as early as 3 years old. Through the years looking out for him came naturally. I realise now how growing up with a brother gave me the training I need to be a better mum. I’m a lot more aware of what my son is going through. I absolutely love being an older sister!”-Radhika,37.
Brother’s who grew up with sisters are found to be better communicators, especially with women
4. You Learn to be Independent from your Sister
Since women are found to be better communicators, they tend to be more encouraging. This leads to the desire of wanting to do better despite failure. The outcome is a sibling that is ambitious and has the confidence to try things out independently.
"I was a shy person growing up with no excellent skills, just a ton of average ones. I would mimic at home and make my family laugh, I would dance gracefully. Outside of home though, I was known as a bad dancer! This one day, my sister’s friends came over and demanded to see me dance. I thought they were pulling my leg but it turns out that my sister had built up my dancing talent so much, that they actually wanted to see it! I decided to take up dancing at age 26 and I can actually give my sister credit for seeing what I couldn’t”-Namrata, 28.
5. Your Sister Teaches You to Cope Better
People with sisters are found to be happier, less stressed and people that are able to deal with stressful situations better. They are also more optimistic as individuals.
“My sister nearly ran away and got married in her early adolescence and everyone including my parents decided to hide it from me. However, I knew something was up and watched her cope with such grace that it helped me deal with HUGE issues till this date. I guess having a sister that dealt with heartbreak so gracefully gave me that confidence that there’s always a way out of problems and you just have to find it”.-Naomi, 34.
So, why exactly are sisters making you better people and not brothers? It just comes back down to how well women express emotions. Emotional expression is the key to a better psychological health.
And let’s be real, she may be the most annoying person, your parents may pamper her more and she may keep stealing your favourite clothes but she is also the one that will have your back when you can’t speak to anyone else, she will always be your constant cheerleader and also the one who can make you see yourself in a light that no one else can. Let’s not forget the silly inside jokes, imprompty singing and dancing and the make-up and hairstyle trials on each other!
She knows your family secrets, because, they are hers too! Your sister will always be your first friend and your best one!

My Story about the First Vaccination of My 2-month-old Baby
Hello, I wanna share about the first vaccination of my baby girl. I am very sensitive, I can’t even see injection and my baby is 2 months old. When I went with her for her 1st vaccination, I was too scared because I couldn’t bear to see her getting vaccinated, but being a mother, I had to be with her there and then when the doctor came and removed her cloths and picked up the injection in his hand and then, I closed my eyes and my mom was also there. She held my hand and the Dr injected the needle and my baby started crying and I also started crying with her. Then, I picked her up and kissed her and hugged her. I came home and my mom told me, now you are also a mother, you have to take care of your baby, and you have to be strong because your baby needs your strength, power and care. After her first vaccination, I was like, 'Next time I’ll not be scared, but I don’t knw how to say.. I can’t see her crying in pain.' She is too small and soft, her hands are so small.. whenever I hold her hand, it feels like I am holding a flower. I love her so much.. she is my first child. And I am very happy with her and her dad is also very happy. Her name is Amyra. I am enjoying motherhood . When she smile while watching me it feels like heaven . Her second vaccination was quite good . She didn’t cry a lot and I was with her and I closed my eyes for a while. I don't know what other mothers do, maybe they are strong but I'm a bit differnt but I love my baby a lot . I click so many pics of hers daily. I want my baby to be a superstar. This is my story on vaccination. I hope you all like it. I know this is crazy but still I wanna share this. Love you all.

A. usually fixed. better to show to specialist always as they get the correct diagnosis. try to avoid self and extra medication that will only complicate this and create more damage to the child
