Your Hospital Bag Checklist for Delivery
Going into labour can be an exciting and anxious time in your life and pregnancy. All the effort and care of the past nine months is finally coming to an end with the delivery of your baby. Whether you have your delivery date fixed already or not, you should be prepared to rush to the hospital the minute you go into labour. This includes having a bag already packed with all the essentials you will need during your stay at the hospital.
When to Pack Your Hospital Bag?
A good time to pack a bag for the hospital is around the 34th and 35th week of your pregnancy. If you are a high-risk pregnancy, then you can pack a bag a couple of weeks earlier. You must not delay packing your bag beyond the 38th week. The baby will not wait for anyone, least of all for an unpacked bag!
What to Pack for Labour?
Mothers who are delivering vaginally will have to stay for one to two days post-delivery at the hospital while mums who’ve had a C-section will stay longer, upto a period of 3 to 4 days. You must keep in mind the length of your stay in the hospital when packing your bag. You must also ask your hospital what they provide for mothers and you can keep those items off your list of things to pack. Make a hospital bag checklist for mom and baby, as this will help you keep track of what you have sourced and what you need to still find.
Documents: Make sure that you make a folder that contains all your documents such as ID proof, insurance documents, and hospital forms.
Dresses: Be sure to pack loose clothing from maternity sores that have buttons on the front in order to be able to quickly undo them for breastfeeding. When going to the hospital, if you do have the time, wear loose clothing that is old as it could get stained by various fluids.
Footwear: Take slip-ons as they are the easiest to get in and out of. You can also carry socks in case you feel cold in the air conditioning.
Lip balm: Most mothers find that outside their labour room their lips start to dry out. Keep a lip balm to protect your lips from the air conditioning.
Snacks and drinks: Labour can sometimes extend for hours. This will be the time that you are glad that you carried some small snacks to help you through the pain. Sugar-free candies are a great snack.
Pillows: Pillows can help ease the pains of the contractions. Also, remember to pack a breastfeeding pillow for use soon after birth.
Underwear and sanitary napkins: You will need extra pairs of underwear and sanitary napkins during your stay in the hospital post-delivery.
Toiletries: If you are particular about using a particular brand of toothpaste or cannot do without your floss, then you will appreciate having taken the time to pick up extra toiletries and packing it into your hospital bag.
Nursing aids: Be sure to pack nursing bras and pads to make breastfeeding a more comfortable experience.
Glasses or lenses: It is quite easy to forget your glasses and lenses in regular life without having the excitement of labour to distract you. Buy an extra pair of glasses and keep them in your bag beforehand.
Gadgets: Be sure to pack your mobile and tablet charger and an mp3 player if you desire to listen to some music to ease the pains of the contractions.
Accessories: Buy a couple of headbands and hair clips to help keep away the hair during labour. After delivery, these will help you as you learn how to breastfeed.
Going home clothes: Be sure to pack comfortable clothes for you to wear when you are discharged from the hospital.
Books: Keep it light and stick to one or two titles that will help you stay calm and relaxed. PG Wodehouse is a great option as is Alexander McCall Smith.
Nursing bras: Read up on the different types of nursing bras and try a few to select a style that you are most comfortable with. Choose a bra that does not have an underwire. Pack at least two nursing bras.
Breast pads: This will help soak up any unexpected leaking of milk as you learn to breastfeed.
Maternity pads: You will need pads after birth and be sure to pack at least an entire pack.
Nightshirt: Pick a nightshirt with a front opening as it will help with breastfeeding.
Toiletries: Do not forget to pack towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, hairbrush, and floss.
Old or cheap underwear: Do not carry new or expensive underwear and stick to cotton underwear.
Eye mask or earplugs: These will help you sleep, particularly if your ward is noisy.
Handouts: Your pre-natal classes or consultations will give you material to read up on how to breastfeed.
Books: Carry a couple of books for entertainment that will keep your mood light.
What Should Your Birth Partner Pack?
Packing for the hospital is a two-way street; while you may need your essentials it is important to communicate with your partner and prepare them for what they may need in the hospital and what you may need from them during the delivery of your child, here are a few points to consider:
Neck-pillows
Calming music
Blankets
Earphones
Cash
Comfortable shoes
Appropriate clothes
What to Pack for Newborn Baby
Your newborn baby hospital bag checklist should include the following:
Two to three bodysuits and vests.
A baby blanket to keep your little one warm especially when you and your baby are heading home.
Nappies: Be sure to pack as many as you can as a newborn can go through as much as 12 a day.
Muslin handkerchiefs for mopping up any milk.
One pair of socks and booties for the journey home.
A woollen hat to protect your baby’s head on the way home.
An outfit to go home in when you and your baby are discharged.
A baby car seat can be the best way to transport your baby back home as it is safe and comfortable.
Jacket or sweater if the weather is particularly cold.
Things You Should Not Carry in Hospital Bag
Here are some things that should stay out of your pregnancy hospital bag.
Jewellery, as it can get in the way of your tests and procedures and can even get stolen.
Cash or other valuables as they are easy to misplace in a large hospital.
Medications that have not been recommended by your doctor. This includes even vitamins.
Breast pumps are provided by the hospital and you will not need to carry your own to the hospital.
Get your bag ready a couple of weeks before your ninth month of pregnancy begins. Do not stress out about what to pack in hospital bag for baby and mom as some family member can always bring one or two items to you at the hospital. You can also run a few drills with your partner in preparation for when you are rushing to the labour room.

How to Remove Ink Stains From Clothes - 11 Easy Remedies
No matter how much we try to keep our clothes spick-and-span, it is difficult to evade stains. So, whether it is an unfortunate ink leak or a clumsy pen mishap, you may have pen ink stains on your clothes. However, the saving grace is that there are some easy and effective home remedies that you can try for getting rid of ink stains from your clothes. Read the following post to know more!
Simple Ways of Removing Ink Stains From Clothes
The most important thing that you should keep in mind while dealing with ink stains is to treat them as soon as you spot them or treat them while they are still wet. No matter what kind of fabric you are dealing with, it is important to target the stain removal at the earliest. This is because the old ink stains or dried up ink stains are not only difficult to manage, but sometimes it will be difficult to get rid of them. Also, dabbing on the stain is a more preferred approach for treating the stain rather than rubbing it. If there is any extra ink, you must dab on it and soak up the extra ink rather than rubbing it and spreading the stain further. Also, another important aspect to remember is to place a towel underneath the cloth whenever you are dealing with the stain to avoid transferring it to other areas of the cloth. Once you take these basic measures, you may adopt any of the following home remedies to remove ink stains from the clothes:
1. Hair Spray
Hair sprays, especially ones with alcohol content, work wonders in cleaning ink stains from the clothes. All you need to do is spray a generous amount of spray on the stained area and let it sit for a minute. Take a cotton ball and start dabbing on the stain until the stain gets lifted. Once the stain is lifted, wash the cloth in a usual way. This method works well for cleaning ink stains on cotton clothes or polyester based garments. Do not use it on delicate materials like silks or leather.
2. Rubbing Alcohol
Rubbing alcohol is an effective remedy for lifting off almost any kind of ink stains such as ball pen, ink pen, marker pen, sketch pen, etc. All you need is some good quality rubbing alcohol and a sponge or cotton. Soak the sponge in the rubbing alcohol and dab gently over the stain until it gets lifted. Once it is done, launder the garment like usual. Refrain from using this method on silk, woollen or rayon fabrics.
3. Baking Soda and Water
Baking soda and water combo are also effective in removing the ink stains from almost any kind of fabric. Take two parts of baking soda and one part of water and mix nicely to make a paste. Take a cotton ball, soak it into the baking soda and water paste and dab it on the ink stain until the stain fades away. Wash the garment with the regular detergent.
4. Dry Cleaning Fluids
You can also get hold of some good dry cleaning fluids that you may be having in your house. These liquids are very effective in removing ink stains. Take any such fluid and follow the instructions given on the label for removing stains. You can use a cotton ball or any soft cloth for blotting the stain and then wash the garment as usual.
5. White Vinegar
Using white vinegar is also an effective home remedy for removing pen ink stains from garments. Use any kind of white vinegar that is sitting in your pantry. Mix equal parts of vinegar and water and soak the garment in the mixture for approximately half an hour. Keep dabbing the stain in between. Never use hot water to soak the garment as it may set the stain; always use cold water for soaking. Wash the garment after soaking to get rid get off the mark.
6. Salt
The salt that you use in your kitchen can be used for lifting the ink stain too. However, this method will work more effectively if the stain is still wet. Place some salt on the stain and take a wet paper towel and dab on it until the stain gets lifted. You can brush off extra salt and wash the garment. You may also repeat the steps if the stain does not get lifted in the first go.
7. Nail Polish Remover
Are you looking for alternatives for removing ink stains from jeans? well, try using some nail polish remover. The alcohol content in the remover works well in lifting up the ink marks. Simply soak a cotton ball with generous amounts of nail polish remover and dab on the satin until the mark fades off. Wash with soap and water for cleaning the garment.
8. Toothpaste
Toothpaste is also a great alternative when it comes to removing ink stains from white clothes or coloured ones. Take sufficient amount of toothpaste and place on the stained area. Rub the area gently until the stain fades away. You may repeat a few more times if the stain is tougher. Remember to use non-gel based toothpaste for this procedure.
9. Dish Detergent and Glycerine
Take one tablespoon of dish detergent and one teaspoon of glycerine and mix them well. Take a soft white cloth and soak in the mixture and gently dab on the stained area. Let the mixture sit on the garment for 5 minutes before running the garment under water.
10. Sandpaper
It may seem a bit unusual but sandpaper can work wonders in lifting up ink stains from suede garments or shoes. All you require is sandpaper and gentle scrubbing on the stained area. Buffing gently with a nail brush or toothbrush after scrubbing with the sandpaper may work just fine.
11. Cream of Tartar and Lemon Juice
Ink stains can be removed by using cream of tartar and lemon juice combination too. All you would need is an equal amount of both these ingredients and mix them well. Cover the stained area with this paste and leave for 3 to 4 hours and then wash the garment.
FAQs
Some FAQs or frequently asked questions are as follows:

However, you can try glycerine and dish-washing detergent combo or commercial dry cleaning fluids to get rid of such stains. In case you are not successful then you may have the take your garment for professional treatment to a dry cleaner.

Importance of Nutrition for Kids & Age Wise Food Plan
Every parent plans meticulously for the healthy growth and development of their child; this starts with healthy meals packed with nutrients, minerals and vitamins that are essential to their development. Planning your child’s diet is never an easy thing as their metabolism is faster and they can process food better than an average adult. They also have different nutritional requirements for their growing bodies.
growing child burns more calories in a day than a sedentary adult can in a week, this is something parents need to consider before planning meals for their children.
Importance of Nutrition for Children
The right nutrition for children can result in many benefits for your child apart from not having any nutritional deficiencies.
A good nutritional plan will ensure the right kind of growth and development.
Healthy food habits learnt during childhood will ensure that your child will have a healthier life as an adult. Studies have shown that adults who had a nutritionally balanced childhood have lesser instances of high cholesterol or high blood pressure. These individuals also have lesser chances of developing diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
With good nutrition, many diseases can be kept at bay. Conditions like iron deficiency, dental cavities, and osteoporosis can be avoided to a large extent.
Good nutrition will provide your child with the right balance of energy as he/she grows up. They will be able to participate in activities that will keep them active and healthy.
A healthy nutrition plan will help prevent obesity. Obesity amongst children is fast becoming one of the biggest health concerns of our times. Diseases caused by obesity like type two diabetes and high cholesterol are now commonly seen in children. Ensuring that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and fibre will help stave off obesity.
Creating valuable and good eating habits is a natural by-product of good nutrition during childhood. Learning when and how much to snack while balancing meals are important lessons that must be learnt early in life.
Breakfast is one of the most skipped meals of the day. It is also one of the most harmful meals to miss as it helps regulate blood sugar levels and improves brain function.
Eating healthy at an early age will ensure that your child hits puberty at the correct age. Girls will find that their menstrual cycle is more regular with far lesser complications.
A well-balanced diet from an early age helps improve physical development. Many doctors argue that a healthy diet can help a child grow taller, have a better metabolism and can even improve their skin health.
Eating healthy from an early age will assist in building your child’s self-esteem and help regulate brain chemicals to fight off anxiety and depression.

What About Nutritional Supplements?
There are many nutritional supplements out there that could affect your child’s health. Not all the ingredients in these supplements are tested on children and one cannot rule out side effects. Pre-adolescent and adolescent children might be interested in taking supplements especially for weight loss or muscle building. However, here are some things you must know:
Products advertised as ‘natural’ do not necessarily mean safe. Find out from your paediatrician if your child can consume the same.
Dietary supplements aren’t tested as rigorously as medicines are and are most likely not tested for children. This means that it could affect their health adversely.
Studies have shown that many dietary supplements contain many harmful substances like chemicals and fillers. Be sure to read the label carefully before buying the same
There are a significant number of children who need emergency care every year due to dietary supplements.
Before giving your child any nutritional supplements, it is best that you get clearance for the same from your child’s doctor.
Consequences of Poor Nutrition in Children
It is important not just for you to understand kids nutrition, but for your child as well. While there are many ‘quick fix’ diets out on the internet today, remember that there can be dire consequences to poor nutrition in children. In fact, poor nutrition is considered a form of malnutrition. If not monitored carefully these consequences can lead to numerous illnesses like:
Diabetes
Stress
Skin conditions
Respiratory disorders
Gastro-intestinal disorders
Renal failure
Fatty liver
Urinary tract infections
Excretory tract infections
Talk to your doctor to keep yourself updated about the side effects of a poor diet and lack-lustre nutrition.
The most efficient way to build healthy habits while helping your child in their physical development is by planning a well-balanced meal that is high in nutritional value. A good diet for children can do wonders to their development, but a bad one can have dire consequences, it is important to plan a child’s diet based on the factors mentioned above as well as their own needs. Consult a dietician for a comprehensive understanding of your child’s nutritional requirements.

Can't Do Situps Right? Here's Help
Situps are an integral part of working out and your best friend when you want flat abs! If you've been working on them but feel the going is really slow, maybe you could use a guide that makes them more effective. The proper way to do sit-ups could be your missing link in the fitness challenge!
Sit-ups are a great workout for the abdominal muscles. They’re also excellent for the hips. Doing them religiously, combining them with crunches, leg lifts and planks, as well as eating right can get you a flatter stomach. Match your procedure with the steps below to ensure you're well on your way!
How to Do Sit-ups at Home the Right Way?
Step 1
Lie down. But never on the bed! A floor or a hard surface is the best as it provides better support. Use a yoga mat or a large towel to cushion it.
Step 2
In the next step of your sit-up workout routine, make sure your neck is as straight as you can keep it. Your head should be completely relaxed. Place your hands beneath your head and neck to steady them but don’t support them completely. If you're a beginner, you may find crossing your hands across your chest easier than placing them beneath your head. As your core strengthens and you get better at doing abdominal sit-ups, you can gradually progress.
Step 3
The third sit-up exercise step is to bend your knees to a 90-degree angle, keeping the balls and heels of your feet flat on the floor. Don't let anything anchor your feet as it will take away the work that your abs need to do. Your back should never be arched but maintain the natural curve.
Step 4
Tighten your abdominal muscles by deeply exhaling. This will draw your belly to your spine, letting you execute the proper way to do sit-ups. Inhaling while performing the exercise will only strain your back muscles. Next, gently lift your head, followed by your shoulder blades. Keep moving up until you're at a 90-degree position or when your elbows cross your knees.
Step 5
Now that you've raised your torso, hold the position for a few seconds and tense your abs. Slowly bring your back to the floor but try not to let yourself go back to your resting position. When you've mastered the right way to do sit-ups, you can move on to the next level.
Step 6
Continue with the required reps for the day. Keep your lower back and the bottom of your feet flat against the floor throughout. Be aware of how your abdominal muscles are contracting to make sure that they’re doing all the work. This is the correct way to do a sit-up, and you can practice every day to perfect it.
If you haven't exercised in a long time, consider doing half sit-ups. Sit-up exercises for women work best when you also stay hydrated, eat a balanced diet and stay motivated. Cheers to a flatter belly!
