19 Effective Home Remedies for Swollen Feet during Pregnancy
When you’re expecting, you’ve got to be careful about your habits and lifestyle. There are a few physical changes that will take place in your body; one of them is swelling in your feet. Swollen feet (oedema) is commonly seen during pregnancy. This happens because there are additional fluids and blood in your body.
Oedema usually affects the ankles, hands and feet. At times, it may also lead to puffiness in the neck and face.
Don’t fret; there are ways to reduce the swelling. Here, we tell you about some effective home remedies for swollen feet during pregnancy.
Home Remedies for Swollen Feet
Making small changes to your diet and lifestyle can help. Try these:
1. Eat Potassium-Rich Foods
You can try to reduce the swelling by including pottasium-rich foods on your plate. Some examples are bananas, avocados, figs, celery, spinach, and cabbage.
2. Avoid Packaged and Processed Foods
Packaged products contain table salt in excessive amounts. Salt only aggravates the condition of swollen feet during pregnancy. So, avoid them to maintain your electrolyte balance.
3. Add Magnesium to Your Diet
Magnesium deficiency makes your body retain water. So, keep up your intake of magnesium with foods like almonds, cashews, tofu, dark chocolate, broccoli, etc.
4. Use Cabbage Leaves
Did you know that cabbage leaves can absorb the excessive fluids from your feet? Place some fresh cabbage leaves over the affected areas and cover them with a cotton cloth. You’ll see the a reduction in the swelling in no time!
5. Eat Coriander Seeds
Soak coriander seeds (2-3 tbsp) in a glass of water. Boil this water, drain the seeds away and drink it once a day.
6. Take Ample Rest
It’s important to put your feet up during the day. Standing for too long puts too much pressure on your feet, making the swelling worse. Keep your feet elevated while resting.
7. Lie Down on Your Left Side
Turn over to your left while lying down. This increases the blood circulation in your body and reduces the swelling in your feet.
8. Pay Attention to Your Clothing & Footwear
Wear comfortable shoes, for example, flats and sneakers. Tight shoes can also make the situation worse. Also, wear stockings and tights that are supportive. Avoid the ones that are too tight around the ankles.
9. Buy Compression Socks
You can go for compression socks that are between 12 to 15 mm or 15 to 20 mm of mercury. Start off with lightweight socks and find a pair that gives you relief.
10. Don’t Be in a Stationary Position for Long
Keeping your body in a stationary position for hours on end can also lead to oedema. It’s important to move your feet and change your sitting or standing position once in a while. If you have a desk job, take a quick stroll inside or outside your office every 4 or 5 hours. This will better the blood circulation, and eventually, reduce the swelling.
11. Cut Down on Caffeine
Caffeine isn’t a healthy option when you are pregnant. In fact, it is also good to stop drinking it when you have signs of swollen feet as it can lead to dehydration.
12. Drink Plenty of Water
No, drinking water won’t make the situation worse. Keeping your body hydrated is very important during pregnancy. When you drink plenty of water, it helps your body flush out all the excess fluids and toxins within in the form of urine.
13. Use a Skin Brush
If you see signs of oedema, you can use a skin brush to help with circulation. Brush your feet upward towards your heart. This is a way to help circulation that is found in the body.
14. Exercise
Exercising regularly is a great way to get rid of swollen feet and increase the blood circulation. However, some women have experienced a worsening of the symptoms after exercising. Only do those exercises that are recommended for pregnant women. You can search for safe workouts for pregnant women online.
15. Lose a Few Kilos If You’re Overweight
Being overweight reduces blood circulation and puts more pressure on your feet. It can also result in fluid buildup in the feet. Consult your gynaecologist about whether you can safely lose some kilos.
16. Try Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix a spoon of apple cider vinegar with two glasses of water to help your body balance the electrolytes. This is because apple cider vinegar has high levels of potassium. In fact, you can even wrap your feet with a towel soaked in equal parts of warm water and apple cider vinegar to reduce swelling in your feet.
17. Go for a Swim
Here’s a way to keep the blood circulation healthy. Swimming actually helps by going against the pull of gravity on the fluids. Swimming is also a safe form of exercise that you can follow during your pregnancy months.
18. Soak Your Feet in Saltwater
You can add epsom salt to bath water and soak your feet in it.
19. Massage Your Feet
During your pregnancy, your feet will feel really tired and exhausted. This is to be expected; after all, you’re carrying a human being in your belly! A massage will help you relax and also help with blood circulation.
When you’re pregnant, there are many things you need to be mindful about. Swollen feet can make you uncomfortable and frustrated. However, there are ways to reduce it. Eat a healthy diet and follow an active lifestyle. When you see your feet swelling up during pregnancy, try home remedies first as they don’t have any side effects.
If you start to notice abnormal swelling, then it is very important to see a doctor. This is because swollen feet can be signs of preeclampsia.

Basic Computer Skills Your Preschooler Should Learn
Computers are a structural part of today's evolved style of education that encourages kids to apply thinking skills instead of rote learning. Thus, it's never too early to learn something as essential as computers!
With ever evolving technology, computers have become an integral part of our life. A vast majority of schools are now introducing computers, I-pads, etc., as part of their curriculum and have also started asking children to work on assignments and projects on computers. Our education system is evolving to research-based education where children are refrained from rote learning, and computers are a big part of this evolution.
You might be thinking a is too young to learn computers, however, you must've noticed that by this age, they are used to gadgets at home. Pre-schoolers will learn computers faster than we think and we have a few ways by which, you can introduce computers and teach some basic skills to your child easily. Don't fret and delay – The early bird gets the worm, after all!
To begin with, teach your child letters on the keyboard. Open a word document and teach them to press each letter and let them see it appear on the screen. This is will be a thrilling and highly engaging exercise for your child. It is the best way to teach both alphabets as well as basic computer skills. Similarly, you can also teach numbers to your child.
Once your child is familiar with the keys and alphabets, you can teach them to open internet explorer. Let any educational website be the default page for internet explorer and let them explore the site.
Save some videos of nursery rhymes in a folder on the desktop. Then teach him to double-click to open the folder and then double-click to open the video.
Slowly you can teach about volume control and keyboard shortcuts to increase or decrease the volume of the laptop.
Give an entertaining introduction of the mouse. Show him how to hold the mouse. To teach left and right-click, put different types of stickers. For e.g. On the left side, you can put a smiley sticker and on the right side you can put a star sticker and then teach them what happens when he will click on smiley, similarly what will happen if he will click on star.
You can also teach listening to music and introduce headphones at this stage. Demonstrate to them where the headphones are plugged and how to put them on their ears correctly in order to clearly listen to a song.
Some guidelines to remember
It is best to wait till your child turns three years old before you officially introduce computers and start teaching them those basic skills.
It is not a good idea to expose your child to the rays that emerge from the screen. Learning computers before that age can be a bit stressful for the kid.
Needless to say, supervision is extremely critical at this stage. Be with your child at all times when he is accessing the computer. Please do not leave your child alone while he is the computer.
Over a period of time, practice will make your child well versed handling the basics of computers, which will prove essential when your child reaches school! Read more

Breastfeeding and Motherhood - My Experiences
When we decided to get pregnant, my thoughts were highly driven by my mother and grandmother who said that once the baby is born, breastfeeding is the most essential part and the only way to get your child a strong immune system. Since I hadn't experienced it, I was not sure - but when Avyaan was born, my inner feeling was so strong that I couldnt help but fed my baby! My doctor suggested ONLY breastfeeding, which, since then, became a part of my daily routine. A lot of people around me said to go for formula milk, but it was clear in my head that breastfeeding is the only thing I wanted to give my child until 6 months of age.
Honestly, it didn't matter who was looking or where I was when I fed Avyaan...I fed him in the car while my husband was driving, I fed him almost everywhere without any guilt on my face. All that mattered to me was his stomach feeling full. My husband was a huge support; he understood the need of this and pushed me to go the extra mile with Avyaan. I joined work after 6 months but I made sure to express milk before I left and to come back and feed him. This has been my daily routine. Avyaan turned 1 year old on August 9th, and I'm a proud feeding mother even today! This is me encouraging all the women out there. Continue as you are!
I had a life before my son was born, but I can't remember what it was like! Having my son was such a life-altering experience. I always was looking for a purpose in my life, and I found it when I had my son. I love being a mother. Now, I know I'm good at it. This doesn't mean I don't make my share of mistakes - there are times when I need guidance and a go-to person. I wouldn't trade my best day before my son for the worst day with him!

I Am Sorry My Baby- It's non of us fault
It is said that kids grow best when exposed to the nature and environment. Kids love when they grow between lots of people, they see, they learn and they explore. But is this possible in this Pandemic? My baby i want you to go out meet your relatives, make friends, touch the tress around you, play in the mud, hide in the park, lift things fallen on the ground, give hi-fi to random people, smile at others and explore every possibility around you. But is it possible in this pandemic?I am Sorry My Baby, you are missing on all of these activities, this world will be soon safe for you if we all cooperate with each other, pray for the world to heal and act responsible. I am sorry my baby I know its not your faultYou grandparents are missing on your growing stage, I know you miss them too, but i am sorry my baby, it is not safe to travel to meet your grandparents now, nor can they come. I appreciate your patience you show on the long video calls even when you are not interested in talking, but remember your grandparents love you and what to see you every single minute.I know you are in a shell and you want to break it and step out, I understand you miss your friends, miss your play dates. I scold when you stick to the Tv or youtube, but it is not your fault my baby. I want you to fly and spread your wings, be open to new learning. You are now restricted in 4 walls , focusing on a laptop and trying to synrchonize what is being taught online. You are too small to handle this tech world, i know it is difficult for you, but you never complained. In fact i lost my control when you do not listen to me and throw tantrums , when you run around the house while the school is on, I forget that you are a free bird and love to explore.
