10 Reasons Why Having A Baby Girl Is The Greatest Joy in The World
“Sugar and spice and all that’s nice, that’s what little girls are made of.” Everyone has heard this rhyme, and a truer rhyme has never been sung. Little girls can be sweet as can be, but they each have some spice and have their flavours making them unique and special in their own ways. Here we look at the many joys a baby girl will bring to your life.
Pros of Having a Baby Girl in Your Life
All children, whether boys or girls are a blessing, yet, there are some things that only parents of little girls can enjoy. Here are some reasons for both mums and dads of little girls:
1. Shopping
This doesn’t mean that mama won’t go crazy shopping for boys, but there is something very different when shopping for a little girl. Imagine the many shades of pink, peach and coral, the many different textures like laces, frills and bows and the many styles of little dresses that can be paired with the cutest little shoes and hair accessories; mums who love shopping will be living the dream. It’s like playing dress-up with your little girl, and both of you will have a great time doing it.
2. Female Bonding
Having a little girl gives mama a better understanding of how she feels because all mothers have been little girls once, they understand where she is coming from and what to expect from her. The bonding between mother and daughter is one of the most precious things; they can even wear matching outfits and talk about girly things as she grows up. As she grows, her mother will be able to connect with her more; mums can soothe her fears, concerns and help her with her ambitions and give her the support only another woman can.
3. Easier Diaper Changes
Changing diapers can be messy, no matter what gender your baby is. But there is a very great advantage to having a little girl when it comes to this element, and that is no squirts of pee on your face or clothes.
4. Mama Can Be a Role Model
Mothers are offered a great chance to be a role model to their little girls, a chance to live out an example of what a woman is supposed to be. Not only will it be great for your daughter, but it will make mamas more conscious and will help them grow and better themselves as well. This is a chance to influence the next generation of women and teach them that while there is nothing better than finding a partnership with a man, they don’t need to depend on one or feel inferior to one either. Raising a strong daughter who can stand up for her beliefs is important, and nobody can do it as mama can by setting a good example for her.
5. Names and Nicknames
There are so many exotic and lovely names to choose from when picking a name for girls, not just that but mothers can choose one that matches theirs or even add their names as her middle name. Nicknames are another area you can shine, choose one that suits her personality and sees how she loves it.
6. Daddy’s Little Princess
Little girls aren’t just for mothers to cherish their childhood; their dads fall hard for them too. A dad is his little girl’s first hero and first love, and she will not fail to bring out the protective man in him. They usually have their dads wrapped around their little fingers right from their first smile.
A dad plays a special role in her life as well; having the opportunity to spoil her and teach her right from her young age that she is so very special.
7. Brings Out the Gentleman
A man may be rough and tough, but while holding his little girl in his arms, all of a sudden the world changes. Most men have a different view of women once they have daughters because there is nothing more in the world that they want than to make their daughters smile. There is a difference between being a husband and a father, and a baby girl turns boys into men, and men into gentlemen.
8. Tea Parties
It’s a thing with little girls; most of them love to have fun tea parties. There are no computer games, remote controls or video game controllers involved; there is just plain old-fashioned and classic fun. So dress in your Sunday best and teach her the fine art of throwing a fabulous tea party. You can expect the company of her stuffed toys to join you as well.
9. She Will Care for You in Your Old Age
It’s no great secret that girls are far more nurturing than boys, so you can be sure that they are more likely to care for you themselves when you are older. Studies show that more women care for their parents in their old age than men do. This doesn’t mean that your little boy won’t want to look after you, but there is certainly a higher chance that it will be your daughter that swoops in when you need her.
10. Dress Up
Mothers and daughters can enjoy endless amounts of time together playing dress up. Watching the way mama dresses will certainly inspire your little girl to try making some fashion statements of her own. Don’t be surprised to find her digging into mums closet, shoes and make-up to try and imitate her style.
She is going to try to fit her tiny feet into your heels, wear your lipstick a try on a few stoles, scarves and hats. It will make any mother just burst with pride to know how much her daughter looks up to her.
Every little girl is precious and can be your light, your life and bring about endless amounts of laughter and joy to your lives. Girls seem to be easier to discipline and start talking earlier than boys, so be prepared for some interesting conversations much earlier than you have anticipated. So even if you were expecting a boy but were surprised when presented with a little girl in the delivery room, remember, there is so much to enjoy from having her in your life and enjoy every bit of raising a daughter.

How to Prepare Your Body for Pregnancy
If you’ve decided to get pregnant, chances are that you would want your body to be well prepared to nurture a new human being. Preconception planning is common among many women who want to increase their chances of a healthy pregnancy.
Also, the healthy lifestyle changes that you make during pregnancy may last even after pregnancy and become a part of your life.
12 Tips for Preparing Your Body for Pregnancy
Here are a few tips that you can keep in mind in the process of getting your body ready for pregnancy.
1. See Your Doctor
The first thing you will need to do is get an appointment with a doctor for both you and your partner. The doctor can analyse your family's’ medical history and rule out the possibility of complications. In case there are complications, you will be provided with remedies. The doctor will also check if you are immunized against major diseases. You will need to be vaccinated against chickenpox and rubella, and you will have to take these shots three months before you try to conceive.
Your doctor can also screen you for sexually transmitted diseases and suggest that you follow the necessary precautions and treatments to improve your chances of a healthy pregnancy.
On the other hand, if you have any underlying medical conditions that require you to take regular medication, like epilepsy, diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma, you will need to visit a doctor to make any necessary changes to your course of treatment before trying to conceive.
2. Stop Birth Control
You will need to discontinue the use of any form of birth control that you have been using. If you have an IUD, you can have it removed by a gynaecologist. While some women tend to get pregnant within the next two weeks after stopping birth control, others may take longer.
3. Fix Your Diet
Cut out the unhealthy food items from your diet, prepare your body for a pregnancy with healthier and organic food choices, and drink plenty of water. Switching those carbs and junk with healthy snacks like nuts and fruits can do you good and lower your exposure to toxins. Also, avoid eating raw eggs or undercooked meat to rule out the risk of salmonella. It is especially important to get to a healthy diet if you have a BMI over 30 and are obese. Being underweight can also be a problem as it can affect your menstrual cycle and can cause you to have missed periods. This essentially means that you will not be ovulating every cycle. It is best to get to a healthy BMI range of 19 to 25 in case you are trying for a healthy pregnancy.
4. Include Exercise
You will need to incorporate moderate work out sessions of about 30 minutes for at least four to five days every week. If you are starting from scratch, a 20-minute walk should help you get moving before you try more vigorous workouts. If you exercise regularly, you can try and squeeze in about 45 minutes of exercise five or six days a week.
5. Stack up on Multivitamins
Most doctors advise women to take multivitamins to make up for the lack of certain vitamins in their body. These prenatal vitamins can help bridge any nutritional deficiency that you may have right before getting pregnant. You will need to boost your intake of iron and calcium-rich foods items as well.
6. Folic Acid
You may need to add folic acid on top of your vitamin supplements. Folic acid helps prevent the possibility of neural tube defects during pregnancy. Although it is available over the counter, you can check with your doctor about these supplements. 400 to 800 micrograms of folic acid is recommended on a daily basis during preconception. Once you are pregnant, your doctor may change the dosage accordingly.
7. Lay off Smoking, Alcohol, and Drugs
All three activities are undoubtedly detrimental to both you and your baby. Smoking can expose you both to a lot of toxins and reduce your blood flow. It also affects fertility and may cause preterm delivery, miscarriage or even stillbirth. Alcohol can have long-term problems and developmental issues in the baby, and can also put your baby at the risk of foetal alcohol syndrome. Using drugs is illegal and can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, etc. Drugs like heroin and cocaine can even lead to drug-dependent babies. It is wise to ask your partner also to quit smoking in case he does, as smoking is also related to low sperm count. Exposure to smoke is also not ideal, especially during pregnancy. It is also best if you limit your intake of caffeine every day as pregnant women are recommended only 300 ml of caffeine each day.
8. Try Stress Relief Measures
Trying to conceive can be quite stressful. But managing your stress is vital as stress can shoot up your cortisol levels, preventing ovulation and lowering your sex drive. You can try out various stress relief measures like yoga, meditation, music, reading, etc.
9. Get Plenty of Sleep
A good night’s rest every day can put your body on track to work the way it is supposed to. Lack of sleep can cause stress, lower your sex drive and make your more tired.
10. Get a Dental Check-up
Gum disease is linked to preterm labour and low birth weight in babies. Ensure that you schedule a visit to your dentist and have the issue resolved before you get pregnant.
11. Get All the Information
Understand how conception works. Talk to your doctor and get all the information you need before you begin conceiving. It is also important that you read as much as possible to know what you have in store for the following months. Also, track your cycle. Knowing when you are ovulating can increase your chances of pregnancy significantly. You can use ovulation kits for this purpose.
12. Involve Your Partner
Conceiving and preparing to conceive is as much his responsibility as it is yours. You can ask him to start taking folic acid too as it helps with the sperm count. He should also make an effort to stay fit and healthy and give up on smoking, alcohol, or other drugs. It is important for both of your to have a healthy lifestyle to facilitate a healthy pregnancy.
It is also recommended that he visit a doctor and get checked too, as about 30 percent of the infertility cases are the result of male infertility.
As you get ready to welcome a new human being into your home , it is important that you prepare yourself mentally for the task too. You will need to care for and nurture the baby and provide it the best possible atmosphere to grow up in. Making a few fundamental lifestyle changes can contribute very well towards that task.
Also, remember that conceiving may be easy for some and equally difficult for others. Do not lose hope if you don’t conceive immediately. You will need to give it time and have patience, and most importantly, enjoy the process. In case you face serious problems, do check with your doctor about the possible reasons and ways in which you can rectify them.

6 Tips To Teach Your Toddler New Words
Toddlers absorb a lot of information and acquiring language skills is one. If you're looking to further your toddler's vocabulary development, this is the right time. Make learning simple and something to look forward to by engaging in conversation and story-telling. You'll soon see a marked improvement.
It’s always exciting for parents when their toddlers begin to speak. Once they’ve uttered their first words (hopefully, ‘mama’ or ‘papa’), eager parents want their children to start chattering as soon as they can. But, each child is different. Some speak sooner and pick up new words faster, while others learn to talk later. Whether your toddler is an early or late bloomer, there are some things you can do to teach her new words.
Ways to Teach New Words to a 12-month-old Baby
1. Talk to Your Toddler
Hold conversations with her like you would if she could talk. The more you talk to her, the more alert she’ll be. Toddlers try and copy adults all the time and hearing you speak will motivate her to do the same. When your child tries to talk to you, be interested and listen to her. She’ll be encouraged to speak more.
2. Keep Favourite Things beyond Arm’s Reach
Place a few of your child’s favourite toys and books in sight, but not within reach. Encourage her to ask for them. This will add to your toddler’s vocabulary list and also help build her confidence.
3. Point, Name and Repeat
Have your child show you her favourite toys and name them for her. Repeat a few words to your child every day by establishing a routine and using the same words. It’s a simple way to come up with new words to teach your baby.
4. Read to Her
Read to your toddler every day, even if it’s just a page or two. Let her pick the book she wants. Point to words and pictures in the story and explain their meanings. Reading is the best way to learn new words and make the process fun and less stressful.
5. Ask Questions
Pose questions to your toddler that require more than a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. Ask questions about the colour of things and the sounds animals make. This not only teaches children to be more expressive, but also helps build their vocabulary.
6. Let Her Socialise
Arrange play dates for your child. They’ll help her socialise and interact with other children of the same age. They also encourage her to communicate and teach her how to behave with others.
Teaching toddlers new words is not difficult. Repeat new words, enunciate, and encourage your tot to say words out loud. No matter what you’re doing, constantly engage with your child. Speaking to her expands her vocabulary and helps her practice. Children's minds are like sponges and they can absorb a lot. Make learning fun and they’ll pick up new words very quickly. Read more

You can also add mashed potatoes or any vegetables along with cheese while you stuff it and make paratha.
You can just serve the hot paratha just like that or you can also serve it with tomato ketchup, curd, or pudina chutney. Below is the recipe for pudina chutney.

The Amazing Benefits of Dancing With Your Baby
Dance is among the most fun things you can do – even better when you do it at home! But what has dancing got to do with your baby? Does it actually help him in any way?
Research has conclusively proven that dancing is an excellent way to trigger your baby’s overall development. And this applies even when you are dancing for him! As your baby learns to move his hands and legs better, he will also learn to sway to tunes. As a parent, do your best to encourage his cute little dancing as it has a world of benefits for his growth.
Here’s What a bit of Dancing Every Day Can Do for Your Baby
1. Helps Your Baby Become More Social
Just as uninhibited dancing helps us let our hair down at a party, the same applies to babies too! Dancing lets your baby make new friends (who are also dancing), learn to make eye contact, and exchange smiles with fellow babies. Just try this out at the next baby playdate you organize!
2. Provides Sensory Stimulation to Your Baby
Dancing is a complete audio visual experience for your child. There’s the music that stimulates his sense of hearing, the thrill of seeing new faces which promotes visual development, and the developing sense of rhythm and balance that help his physical development. It’s the perfect baby exercise.
3. Gives Your Baby Much Needed Exercise
Yes, babies need exercise too and childhood obesity is a very real problem! What could be a better exercise than dancing? This is something both mom and baby can enjoy anytime of the day! When your baby is little, a bit of rocking and swinging also equals dance.
4. Introduces Your Baby to Music
This one may seem obvious but the impact of dance on your baby’s sense of music is even more than you thought. From a very young age, babies can understand synchronization, patterns, melodies and noise. Just try exposing them to something jarring and see their reaction! Some dancing practise every day triggers this musical knowledge further and this translates eventually into a better sense of patterns in other aspects of life too.
5. Teaches Your Baby New Aspects of Language
March! Stop! Move! Never are these instructions better understood than on the dance floor. While dancing together, try and use as many word labels as possible. Yes, your baby can understand your tonality and purpose even before he understands semantics! Just make sure you use hand gestures and facial expressions to convey the meaning behind the word.
There, mommy, dancing is excellent both for your baby and you! The next time you’re feeling low and drained, just put on some music, take off your shoes, and put up a dance performance only for your little one! Read more

Mom Who Went From 104 to 44 Kgs Reveals 8 Ways She Made It Possible!
Losing weight is never easy – but as moms we know, losing weight after pregnancy is perhaps the hardest! During the course of pregnancy and in the postpartum phase, women tend to put on a lot of weight. Losing this weight, especially around the belly region, can seem almost impossible. But Chan Vekaria, mom to a five-year old daughter, and her unbelievable weight loss from 104 Kgs to 44 Kgs prove that everything is possible if a mother so wishes!
Chan had always been on the overweight side. Before her wedding, she had an incentive to lose weight so she could look good for the big day. However, whatever weight she managed to lose came right back after the wedding. And then she became a mother to a baby girl. It only got harder and more and more impossible.
"Every time I went out to try and buy new clothes, it was a complete nightmare. I'd return home with nothing, as nothing in the popular high street stores fit me. I ended up ordering clothes online from stores, which specialised in plus sized clothing. I'd cut the labels out as soon as the clothes arrived so I didn't have to face looking at the size 24 tags.”
How Chan Got Motivated to Lose Weight
Like many of us, Chan too had probably resigned herself to her post-baby body. And then, one day, something happened that changed Chan’s life. It was the summer of 2009 and her daughter was five years old. She had taken her to the local park with her sister. And even though she was hot, she kept her jacket on.
“It was such a hot day, but I refused to take off my jacket. I waited by a bench sweating while the two of them had a great time. I remember my daughter kept looking over at me and calling me over, but I refused to go. The look of disappointment on her face will stay with me forever.
I felt like a failure as a mother. I was missing out on doing the fun things she wanted me to do with her because I was too lazy to do something about my weight…”
Chan’s Weight Loss Secrets Revealed
That day in the park, she decided enough was enough. She couldn’t bear to not be part of her daughter’s activities and enjoyment, just because she had a weight problem. Starting that day, she decided to get serious about losing weight. From then till now, she has gone from her highest weight of 104.7 kg to 43.9 kg, and looks amazingly fit!
Here Are The Weight Loss Secrets That Have Helped Her Achieve This Stupendous Goal
1. Make A Healthy Roti
Yes, even the regular roti we eat for lunch or dinner can become a weight loss companion. You just need to make it healthier. Chan shares a tip to make a healthy roti that’s packed with fibre and goodness and makes your metabolism speed up.
“At the weekends I make healthy roti by adding oats, flax seeds, and spinach into the dough. I have that with eggs or curry made from vegetables, soya or quorn. My family enjoy soya and quorn products so I try to add this in with any vegetable I am using that day to make a curry.”
2. Have Oats for Breakfast
Yes, oats really do live up to all that hype about weight loss! They are fibre-rich and contain no saturated fats which make you feel full but in a healthy way. This mom used to have oats for breakfast most of the time, with either fruit or nuts. She also had overnight oats made with almond milk, chia seeds, honey and berries.
3. Eat Steamed Vegetables
As Indians, we love to saute, shallow fry and deep fry our veggies. However, one little change can be a great change to boost weight loss: steaming! When you steam veggies, you are reducing the amount of fat intake because there will be minimal use of oil. However, all the nutrients of the vegetable will be intact. Chan ate a lot of steamed vegetables, especially broccoli and spinach. Here’s how she did this:
“I prepare a big batch of steamed vegetables and have that with either quinoa, couscous, eggs or a baked sweet potato. I also have some form of protein so either cottage cheese, or a yogurt.”

4. Cut Back On Carbs At Night
We are often told that dinners should be light. However, in hectic lives where dinner is the one meal that the family has together, this can be difficult. But there’s one thing that you can do: reduce the amount of carbs you have at night (e.g. rice, roti, bread) and instead eat the curries or salads. To try to eliminate carbs in the evening, this mom has a curry with cauliflower rice or salad. Cauliflower, she says, is her favourite vegetable right now and she has used it to make pizza bases, hash browns, Frittata and patties.
5. Make Everyday Foods Healthier
The one big problem many of us have with eating healthy is the challenge of routine. With so much to do every day and so many meals to be made for the family, where is the time to create something especially healthy? Well, this mom has found a unique solution. All you have to do is to adapt your favourite foods so you can still enjoy them but with lower fat ingredients. Her favourite and easiest recipe for this is baked oats with berries, nuts and honey. But you can also do this with good old Indian food. For instance, if you’re a non-vegetarian, opt for fish rather than chicken or mutton as they have higher fats and are also tougher to digest. Check out more of these easy Indian food swaps to lose weight here.
6. Do a Mix of Exercise
Well, there’s no escaping this one – some exercise is essential to losing weight and keeping it from returning! However, it doesn’t have to be daunting. As moms, we already get a lot of exercise – think of all the walking, running, going up and down the stairs, mopping, washing…Apart from all this, try and see if you can get on a basic exercise schedule. Leave some days when you will not do any exercise, so as to remain motivated. Chan says, “I enjoy all forms of exercise so I incorporate a mixture. My training schedule is broken down so I get at least two days break before working for the same muscle group again. I have 1 rest day a week where I do not exercise at all.”
[caption id="attachment_167020" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Source: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/health-fitness/weight-loss/fat-buster-i-felt-like-a-failure-when-i-saw-my-daughter-disappointed/articleshow/56732643.cms[/caption]
7. Make Snacks and Desserts Healthy too
With all that focus on healthy eating, it is important to not deprive your body of all its cravings. So, if you have a sweet tooth, it is okay to indulge once in a while. However, this mommy suggests that we stick to healthy snacks that are delicious but also low on far. Chan’s favourite snack is homemade banana ice cream or energy bars. She makes the bars herself using dates and dry fruits to sweeten them up. You can also make your own fruit and nut bars using this simple recipe.
8. Pick Exercises That Don’t Feel Like Punishment
One reason many of us get scared of exercise is that they seem so daunting and strenuous. However, Chan says that there are many exercises we can choose from and they do not have to feel like punishment. She says, “Exercise for me is a reward for my body, not a punishment for what I ate. It's important to find exercises that you enjoy so that you are likely to keep doing them.”
So, how do you find an exercise that seems doable? To start out, we recommend these 17 exercises that need only 5 minutes. Trust us, they are really simple and even fun to do.
After finding out about this mommy’s journey, we can only say one thing – wow! She proves that if we only set our heart to something, and determine to reach a goal, we women can do anything we want. The best part is that her mantras are fairly easy to implement and can be done on a daily basis.
One Inspiration that Chan leaves us with - “Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in, day out”
She says, "This is a quote I continue to live by today and will continue to promote to women all over the world. Success can be achieved by each and every one us. Be the woman that never gave up and decided to go for it."
Time to get started on our own health and fitness journey, moms, not just to lose weight but to feel happier, more confident, and teach our kids the importance of good health as well. Read more
